OK so ive figured some things out, you probably know them, thats not what i made this thread for.
xhausx s-on kernel installer will not install a kernel if going from JB to Sense.
And for some reason, if coming from PA 2.99, with the latest 2.1 komodo rls 21, HTC dumlock will not let you get back to sense either...
Trying to go back to mean rom at the moment and it has taken me a couple hours lol, its rediculous, thought i could do it without fastboot, or flash image gui, and i was wrong. So i started looking around, found out it was a buck, then i found this forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1772769
Thought it might be a tad helpful, it contains the apk for flash image gui at the right version for our phone.
Enjoy and have a wonderful day.
Woot.
got back mean rom aparantly a big issue was with the v6.5 release of meanrom. put 6.4 on there and it worked just fine.
Still tho, a free Flash Image GUI a big plus. So check it out.
Though joeykrim offers his app free thru the forum, it is a good gesture to purchase it for a $1 to show support for such a great tool. It saves a lot of headache for many.

I haven't had issues with the kernel installer on meanrom and I switch between sense and aosp quite often. Dumlock should always work because recovery is flashed into the boot partition essentially replacing boot and allowing twrp to flash the kernel directly. I don't see how it would fail.
If anyone can confirm the jb/kernel installer issue or provide a log from it I should be able to fix it. I haven't tested it yet with 4.2 JB but unless they changed something major it should still work the same.
Many devs provide their tools for free on here, but as mentioned by one_love_420 please show your support and get the donate version if it's something you feel is worthy of it. A lot of hard work goes into some of these apps.
Indeed

I was just throwing it out there for those who wanted the link, just saw it was a buck on the app store and was looking around to see if it supported our phone yet (last i had checked the one on the app store didnt) a quick google search told me it did and provided me a free link, so just sharing.
I also wanted to say that,
When coming from the original PA (not lens flares) to Super LTE which had the s-on kernel installer, super lte would get stuck in a boot loop. And then when going from PA (lens flares) with the rls 21 komodo kernel, to mean rom (latest) it wouldnt boot, so i just went with what i knew and stated it couldnt, tho i havnt attempted to reproduce the effect since as i am currently sticking with mean rom. You would not believe the fear i had when i couldnt boot my phone for a while and couldnt find out why, then upon trying to unroot using the latest RUU to simply quick fix the problem, the RUU gave me an error, lol i thought my phone was gone.
But it ended up being a problem with mean rom, i went back to PA and then used the dumlock to install an older version of mean rom and all was well.

Oh and i totally agree with you, i know how the dumlock works and i didnt see what the problem could be at the time, it was just a problem with the latest release of mean rom, flashed and got stuck at the white HTC screen and being s-on that ment i couldnt use the dumlock anymore or anything for that matter. so i was flippin out trying to find the problem before the obvious hit me. I just had assumed with mean rom always being so stable that the newest release wouldnt have bothered my phone. Guess i was wrong though, still have no idea whats wrong with it but that version of mean rom still wont install and work lol. Its all good though, this post might as well serve as a quick shot to a link that you may or may not have known was there.
I'm not sure what I did but I never had any trouble recovery back to sense till now. Every other time I've flashed from job to sense it hasn't been a problem. I have tried Meanrom 6.5, and stock.goodies. with no luck. When I try to flash the boot.IMG, the button is grey out and won't let me flash.
I'm stumped.

Just what the title states, I have just switched over from HTC sense based Operation Jelly Bean 3.15.651.16 to Official BlakCM. My EVo 4gLTE is s-off and rooted with latest TWRP 2.5 for recovery. I followed defection as how to install this particular ROM. What I am not sure on is the kernel. Do I need to install a custom kernel to run this Rom properly and which one if that is the case. I also have the latest base band 1.12.11.1210 installed without TP firmware upgrade. Thanks
You don't need to run custom kernel to run cm10 roms. You can if you want to and komodo is the only one I know of
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
It's not necessary to flash a custom kernel (in this case Komodo), but it does make the ROM even better: battery life almost doubles (on the stock ROM I'm usually at about 18% by 10:00 while with Komodo at that time I'm still at 45% or so), it also helps boost the audio volume and you can use swipe functions on the capacitative keys to turn on the screen (swipe from the left to right), turn off (inverse of the turn on function), increase and decrease volume (swiping halfway) and other functions.
Oh forgot to mention: flash the ViperBoy voltage fix. When I first used to flash it I'd get all sorts of random reboots and such, but since I flashed it it's so much smoother and doesn't reboot randomly

To flash the custom kernel do I drop it on sd/root like a firmware upgrade or flash using recovery/zip method, also for the voltage fix.

Which version of Komodo? I was reading the carbon thread a while back and remember Jamie saying a certain version for Carbon. Unfortunately I can't remember which version he said...probably have to search the thread again. I'm hopping back and forth between sense and aosps right now so I'm interested in trying this rom again with a different kernel as well.

I was trying to instal the latest version of komodo rls31 capped at 1.7 both sweep gestures and standard versions and no luck. I was reading that tread and others have had same problems with boot loop after installs. Thread also mentioned that others had success installing rls31 capped at 1.998 with no gestures and rls31 capped at 1.5 with no gestures. I have not tried installing these versions yet.
Ah, I want to say rls29 was recommended somewhere back on that thread. I haven't tried any of them yet though.

Hello XDA! I have been a keen follower of this forum for long, but this is my first post, 'cause well... this is the first time I pretty stuck at something.
I have a Xperia Mini Pro (SK17i) and I have been using it for quite a while, around 2 years I presume. I have rooted and unlocked the bootloader by the end of the first year, and have been trying out several custom roms, until stopping at CM10.1 of LegacyXperia. (the amazing creation of Mike for our 2011-line of devices!) However, as of a month back, my touchscreen kinda broke - it wouldn't respond along with the capacitive buttons. I tried the methods mentioned in the general section, but no avail - it simply wouldn't work at all. There's a thin small strip that appears around the screen during pulling out the hardware keyboard, and I guess that somewhat suggests that the touchscreen is invalid by hardware means.
However, that's merely a background to the problem I'm facing. Recently, after the launch of CM11, I thought of giving it a swing, seeing how I have been an avid-fan of the pure look of CM. I tried flashing the kernel using flashtool and start the phone, but the only thing that takes place is just a vibration and a black screen. The screen remains black for like ever, until I pull out the battery. I tried flashing the kernel thrice, and the same problem persisted all through. I reverted back to the stock ICS then and it worked like a charm, and the same goes for FXP CM10 and the last CM10.1 I used... there's no problem whatsoever, save for the broken touchscreen.
Any suggestion one might give about my problem? Thanks a ton for reading out everything!

The kernel is incompatible with your phone.
Care to explain a little more? I have flashed the kernel provided within the rom zip itself (as suggested time and time again), and I have double checked its for the correct device - i.e. mango.

yeah i though so...was going through the post...did you try this..
1.1 (optional): If the device is not booting, reboot to bootloader again and run:
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata
As the rom requires a new partition table and maybe system and userdata is conflicting...

Thanks a lot for pointing it out, mate! Usually the roms I tried didn't require such a thing, but this might be it. I'll provide feedback if the steps works.
I tried the steps advised, but the problem seems to still persist to some extent. The capacitive lights are lit and the screen is lit as well (as could be understood from the viewing angles - it's brighter and powered up). Nothing seems to appear on the screen though - no boot logo or anything - and trying to enter recovery fails as well (through power + vol up shortcut). I have tried it twice already, kept the phone switched on for five minutes or so, but no avail. I had to pull battery out every time to shut down the device. Anyone have any other advice?

try this.....Have the stock ICS 4.1.B.0.587 full ftf flashed (doesn't matter if you have flashed it in the past or if you flash it before installing cm11.0, it will work both ways)
then see if device powers up...
once it does...go for the next steps........

I wonder if its a hardware related issue...you said in your op that there is some problem with your screen and capacitive buttons...Got any friend with sk17i???? I had one before it was stolen......Every other rom apart from CM11 is working right..Is there any other Kitkat based ROM for sk17i..if its there you may try that out and see if you have the same problem...otherwise..wait for a kitkat based rom to come up and try before flashing this...Try one more time from scratch...flash stock ICS 4.1.B.0.587 full ftf..reboot....once its working...fastboot flash boot.img...then better to fastboot erase system and fastboot erase userdata and then before it boots enter recovery and wipe data cache everything...flash update.zip..wipe cache, data, dalvik cache again...and boot..if it doesnt boot up then there is no option but to wait..

Exactly. That's the whole reason why I posed this thread - to know if it was a hardware related problem right off the bat, or there was really something that I was doing wrong. I'll rather leave this one open to see if anyone have any other opinion about the matter. I really want to see what Kitkat looks like seeing how it's not available for my current device. (Micromax A210)
Also, about trying out other 4.4 roms... I guess I can try that route. But seeing how this problem is induced by the kernel itself and every other rom out there is mainly based off the LX 3.4 kernel, I doubt if that will work. I'll try the option anyway and see if it works.

Yeah.....waiting for other roms wont work.....cz they are all based on 3.4.x kernel.......Umm can you check your baseband after flashing full ftf...baseband should be : 8x55A-AAABQOAZM-203028G-77..every other rom based on 3.4.x kernel works right???...btw if you want to see how it looks just download a kitkat launcher from playstore....
Yes, the baseband is .77 after flashing the ICS 4.1.0.B.587. I used 3.4.x kernel with CM10.1, but never really tried CM10.2 to that extent. Maybe I'll try downloading that and see if it works... or even the EOL CM10.1.
And sure, the launcher would give in the feel, but I want the full experience possible really.

HTC unlocked and rooted my Rez back in late Dec 13. I have had battery issues ever since. I know (through extensive reading these forums and others) this isn't due to root. And my issues are beyond battery, No ROM I have tasted has been stable. Tachyon ION, Paranoid Android, Cyanogenmod 11....similar issues with each, some worse than others. I downloaded BetterBatteryStats yesterday to try and diagnose this, but I am skeptical this is the problem. Biggest issue: battery doesn't give a true reading of its charge, or the rom running (again, all of them) can't accurately read the battery. Case in point: yesterday I wiped phone and installed the cyanogenmod 11 from NEO. I installed better battery stats and fully charged. Battery lasted less than 2 hrs. Plugged in at 10% and let charge for a few hrs. When I unplugged, cyanogen tells me that battery has 44% charge. After immediate reboot, battery shows 94% charge. This has been consistant over the different ROMS.
The other big problem is the constant reboots I experience. Many apps seem to overload the system and forced reboots happen. I realize that I am likely the problem, but I can't seem to figure out why.
I apologize, I know its an old bit, complaining about battery life after root, but compounded with the instability of the ROMS...I suspect I am doing something wrong that I haven't figured out.
Questions:
1. Do I need to manually flash a kernel after/before flashing a ROM?
2. Does being S-ON have anything to do with this?
3. Any tips?
I appreciate any help

Answers to your first two questions:
1) After (although it S-ON it technically shouldn't matter)
2) No
Here are some tips, this could be as simple as a battery going bad, i consider a replacement one, either original HTC or Laza would be my recommendation. Also, I would consider going S-OFF, then going through @REV3NT3CH's full downgrade/upgrade guide from start to finish, this seems to be fix for many "odd" issues in the Rezound, I can't really explain why and it somewhat defies logic to downgrade to the oldest version of software available and then upgrade step-by-step through every version, but it has definitely shown it's value as a working solution to many issues.
I kind of suspect a battery, charger, charge port, bad cable, or even dirty/tarnished contact here though... three hours on the charger on a good stock battery that is charging correctly should bring it near full after 3-4 hours, if you are only getting it to 44% something is not right.

That's the thing, it says 44% when I pull it off the charger, but if I reboot it, it says 90%+. Multiple cables/ports have been used. Same issue.
Regarding your statement about flashing a kernel post ROM flash, I attempted this with Tachyon and the fuzzy kernel yesterday. ROM installed as expected, it crashed a few times while installing backups from Titanium, and then I flashed the Fuzzy kernel. After the kernel flash the phones screen wouldn't work....I believe the phone was booting, but no screen, just LED notificaion light. Thats when I started over with the Cyanogenmod 11 ROM, which has been the most stable.
Thanks for the advice, I will likely attempt your suggestion about downgrading/upgrading.

Always use the kernel that comes with a ROM, until you know it's stable and unless you have a good reason to switch... it is the best match to the ROM and the benefits you get from another kernel are generally marginal at best unless you need a specific feature that is not included in the ROM's kernel.
Proper sequence when installing a ROM when S-ON would be to wipe everything but external SD, then flash ROM, immediately reboot into bootloader and start fastboot, flash the boot.img with "fastboot flash boot boot.img" then reboot. Any other sequence could give questionable results.
Using Titanium backup to restore information in between JB and KitKat (either way) is not recommended, even with root access TiBu has issues restoring into /system in KitKat. It is highly recommended to reinstall all apps from the Play Store and use something like SMS Backup & Restore to handle text message migration.
I would again recommend a new battery, and going S-OFF especially now that the "wire trick" is no longer required using Rumrunner or Firewater S-OFF, then going through the downgrade/upgrade process I mentioned earlier.
So I have been unsuccessful at getting Windows drivers working for my rez. HTC sync and Windows used to identify it, but after I originally rooted it back in Dec, I wiped my laptop clean and set up a dual boot. Since then I haven't been able to get HTC sync to identify the phone, and ADB only works if I am in the TWRP or bootloader. Same with mounting and moving files, recovery only. Since the rumrunner S-OFF exploit needs me to be in Android, I'm in a pickle.
Things I have tried:
Current HTC sync software (Doesn't recognize the phone)
Downloaded and installed the driver from the Rav3nt3ch guide mentioned earlier
Also tried the old version of HTC sync that is mentioned in the same article

to make sense of it. the reason it works is through some flashings or wrong deleteion of files the files that are integrated in system that a ROM does not have these RUU.exe files and OTA (ph98img.zip) files do have and repairs the phone to its neccesary needed state again. a good example to prove it is a typical rom is about 160mb in size and only contains bare necessities really..where as the ruu or ota is usually around 600mb in size and also full flashes the phone to proper partitions and such...as stated in my guide be sure to let phone fully boot and go through first setup of those particular roms....some people skip this step thus not activating their verizon service

Windows 7. The drivers worked fine back in December prior to me wiping my HDD and setting up a Ubuntu/Win 7 dual boot. I can use ADB just fine if the phone is at the bootloader/recovery. Its only the OS the causes a problem.
Yes, the phone does get quite warm, though since switching to CM11 both heat and battery have improved. Still unacceptable, but improved.
I'll attempt to wipe the battery stats after it charges back up, but I don't see that option in the TWRP 2.5.0.0 I have installed.
**//After being out this evening, I got home and plugged the phone in about 30 min ago. It was at 8% according to CM11. After rebooting into the recovery, TWRP informs me that there is a 66% charge.

After rebooting into the recovery, TWRP informs me that there is a 66% charge.

wait your on twrp 2.5.0.0 theres a big issue there and prolly why battery stays showing at 66%....you need to be on 2.6.3.0 for jb or kitkat bud....as for wiping battery stats i believe that may be cwm

Clockworkmod 6.0.3.1 is now my recovery, fully installed on the phone. I had been using cwm as the recovery img that I would fastboot boot, then install a ROM. But the actual recovery installed on the phone was TWRP 2.5. Might this be the underlying cause of much of my boggle?

on older twrp or miscompiled recoveries it will simply just read as 66% and stay there....a good example...phils touch needs this battery reading part fixed as well as it shows 66% for battery currently
6.0.3.6 installed. Hopefully this oversight is what it takes to improve my experience with android modding. Thanks for your help fellas.
I don't remember having this much trouble modding my old HTC tilt back in the day.
Flashing clockworkmod 6.0.3.6, reinstalling CM 11 via CWM and then flashing the boot.img seems to have fixed my battery issues. After a few days of use, battery is holding charge much better. A note on what I think I was doing wrong, for others:
-I had originally flashed TWRP 5.X
-Then I followed this article explaining how to install custom roms whlie s-on
-I then loaded the various custom roms via the above method with the CWM 6.0.3.1 (Listed on their website)
-Chaos insued
Don't do this.
Ok, I was stock rooted to allow for wifi hotspot. Once I started getting the latest OTA from VZW I decided to try to go back to stock to accept the OTA. I went through all the YouTube video's and loaded the LG software but my phone would never sync to the LG suite software. I ended up giving up and just kept pushing the OTA off. It got so bad that I decided last night to install a recovery and then flash an unofficial CWM rom. So this morning it was working fine and then all of the sudden, I lost VZW data. Couldn't get any signal. So I decided to try to flash the Official Cyanogenmod 11. That blew up during the setup and gave me an error that it could not find any cellular service. I wiped the phone and tried to restore the backup I made of my stock rom with the recovery on it. I made the backup the second the recovery was finished. It's giving me an MD5 error?? I've tried this multiple times with the same result. So, I then decide to flash one of the two roms (unofficial & official) back to see if I can get the phone working again. No such luck.... It keeps trying to set up my "cellular service" and just runs. Nothing ever finishes. I'm really worried at this point. I would be perfectly fine to flash a Verizon image and go back to stock. But I can't seem to find out how to do this or where to find the file. Please help me.. I'm getting desperate.
Edit: I tired to flash the Unofficial Rom again and this time it seems to be working. I would still rather just go back to stock though. If anyone can point me to the correct place I'd be very appreciative.
Thanks
Dave

Here is a link to flash back to stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/general/guide-flash-to-stock-10b-kdz-method-t2928140
I know you wanted to take the OTA, but why not download one of the stock based 11c ROM's, like Jasmine 3.0? That way you'll still get the latest version(11c) but you won't lose root and recovery. The OTA patches root, so no recovery either. Here's a link for Jasmine 3.0 stock based 11c if you want to try it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/development/rom-jasminerom-v1-0-t2904641
Also, there has been issues with data on the CM builds. It seems pretty common right now. Check the CM threads for more info on that. I believe there is a command people have been entering(killall rild in terminal emulator) to get data back, but it seems 50/50 that it'll work.

Hey thanks a lot for your reply. I understand what you're saying with going back to stock. My issues with flashing custom Roms is that I have to have my phone work 100%. I've been flashing since the original Droid Incredible. And I've NEVER found a Rom that didn't have minor glitches and issues. Usually those issues affect my daily routine. I'll give Jasmine3.0 a shot and if it works I might just keep it. If not i'll just suffer through VZW's BS! Anyway, really appreciate your input.

Glad to help. I'm with you on the 100% functionality too, so that is why I'm on Jasmine 3.0. Don't get me wrong, I love custom ROMs and all the work the devs do, but until all the kinks are worked out I'd rather be stock.
Also, I'm not trying to advertise anything, but flashing the skydragon kernel into Jasmine has helped the speed/lag and battery life as well. Its worth a try - but it only works on stock/non-AOSP based ROMs. If you try it though, also download the stock 11c kernel that the OP put in the thread just in case you have issues. I don't have the link handy, but the kernel is located in the "original android development" thread. Peace

Which drivers were you using? I had trouble with the Unified Drivers linked in some posts and had to use the Verizon specific drivers. I also had to usually reinstall the drivers each time I tried to use the flash tool to get it to recognize my phone.

To be honest, I'm not sure what drivers I was using. I did a Google search for LG suite and found the closest version I could find. They didn't have the VS985, Only P985. So that might have had something to do with it.

Modem is the radio. Some people reported better signal strength on the 11c modem versus the 10b modem, but I didn't notice too much of a difference myself.
And glad you like the ROM, but all thanks go to hsbadr who came up with it

You know, it's really odd but the last few weeks my phone's signal has dropped. I listen to Sirius through my phone during the day at work. And I've always received 1 to 2 bars of 4g. But the last few weeks, It's dropped to about 2 to 3 bars of 3G. I thought maybe VZW was secretly throttling me. But maybe it's the updated Radio?

It's possible the modem could've been causing problems. Is 11c better or worse for you? And its also possible big red was throttling you too. That seems like something they'd do.
If you use/like xposed framework G3 tweaksbox is a good app to get for customizing your phone a little bit. And greenify and amplify are good xposed apps that help your battery life a whole lot. They are worth checking out in the play store.
