Looking for a rom I can install via Odin . Needs to be a tar file but I cant seem to find one at the moment......any pointers very welcome.
Thanks
sr
You don't have custom recovery working to flash .zip?
Can flash stock firmware found on Intratech thread. Will lose root, but can flash CF-root kernel from Chainfire thread to get root again...... All with Odin.

Sorry
...quite new to all this. I have installed a rom on the sd disk but when I go to install zip from sd card can't see it !!
If its ok could you explain your method ....as Im a bit of a thicko !!
thanks
sr
Depending on what version of cwm 4 or 5 you have will make a slight difference but essentially these process.
Place the Rom zip on your internal sdcard not the removable external sdcard.
Navigate to flash .zip from internal sdcard in recovery. If you are changing versions if android or. 2.3.3 to 2.3.5 or flashing between different Roms, maybe best to factory reset, wipe.cache, and wipe dalvik (in advanced) from within recovery. Immediately flash ROM, and then reboot, give it a few minutes. You will lose your data etc, but will help to ensure you don't get boot loops or force closes etc

...for the prompt reply, problem is I can only get rom onto the external sd card. Can't see a way of getting it onto the internal one !
Guess this looks like my evenings planned with the wife moaning at me!
sr
Boot up. Connect USB to PC and transfer the file.... If your still not sure if your putting it in the correct "sdcard", power off and remove extrenal sdcard.
You could also connect cable to PC in recovery, then "mount USB storage",. Transfer file to USB storage, "unmount", then flash from internal sdcard (look for the USB storage within).USB storage is just a sub directory of the internal sdcard.

Oh yeah, about the moaning. Know the feeling full well......... (good or bad

Me again..
I have the phone working but the PC will not recognise and storage on the phone which means I can't update etc. Do you have any ideas of what is needed to fix this. At the moment the only thing that I can use is Odin. I did have another rom on the sd card but cant open it.
Sorry about this !!
Steve
Have you installed Samsung Kies? You need the diverts from that installed to PC. Just remember that you need to close kies before using Odin.
Edit :You have selected connect from the phone (maybe have notification on phone status bar?)

Phew....
Managed to open another rom zip and installed, things back to normal (and before the wife gets home) !
One last question .....I install roms on the internal sd as I can never see them when installed on the external sd, guess I am missing something simple ?
Thanks for your help this afternoon
Steve
Tried to flash MeanRom to my EVO Lte after using CMX for a week or so with no problems.
Now I'm all turned around and I have no clue what's going on. My phone will still boot into recovery so I'm assuming all hope is not lost. However I can't access my internal sd, can't use the adb shell command (I get: "- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2)"), I've tried to flash CMX back onto my phone but the files seem to have disappeared from it's internal memory. adb reboot recovery works, sends me to TWRP. But once in TWRP I get confused and frustrated because I can't seem to find a way to just flash a damn ROM onto my phone. None of my backups are listed in "restore" and I had three there this morning. WHAT GIVES?
I'm using a Mac and don't have access to Linux or Windows, I was going to try to unroot it and start from there but I can't seem to find a way to unroot the phone on a Mac. Unless I'm googling wrong.

you did save your backups to external not internal right?
are you s-off? what boot loader?
if you can get into recovery you should be able to load a rom zip on sd card and flash from external card.

I saved them to internal. I don't have an external yet.. Single mom, had to buy my kid shoes. Damned priorities...
I can get into recovery I just don't have an external sd that I can put a zip on. I thought I had an extra from my old HTC G2 but I've been unable to locate it.
Should I run out to Fry's and buy an external sd card or is there a way to fix it without the external?
Edit: Btw, I'm s-ON. I'm still fairly new ish to this stuff so I'm not 100% what bootloader I'm using. Is it the same as Hboot? Hboot is 1.19.0000

If I'm using Mac and not Windows will that be ok? I can mount it to my computer but where should I go from there? Erasing it? Restoring it? I'd be using disc utility, unless there's a different program that works better.
thats fine, go to twrp and select mount/mount as storage and connect to pc, format volume fat32

Now once I do that, just add the rom files to my phone's internal and try to flash a new rom, correct?
Have you tried to format storage through the boot loader?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
yes, once its formatted, add a rom, prefereably meanrom, its the only one I've tried that has reliably installed the kernel. Give it 5-10 minutes, the phone will hang on writing kernel and it will reboot 2-3 times and it will hang each time, just let it do its thing

No, that literally just occured to me as I refreshed the page. Off to try that now.
I don't have an HTC phone with me now to show the exact steps but usually when you get to the boot loader it will have an option for formatting storage. Then try to go into recovery and mount.

Now my files that I transferred to the phone are not showing up in TWRP under Install OR File Manager. ARGH.
Maybe twrp isnt mounting the internal memory. I dont see that being a problem though

Well **** I'm going to run out and buy a microsd and try to flash the rom from external. Let you know how it goes.
Alright, so flashed CMX back to my phone from the external sd. Worked beautifully. I now have a rom running on my phone.
Still can't figure out the internal sd.... Is there anyone who can tell me step-by-step what to do to reformat it or fix it or whatever? I feel like this should be a relatively easy fix, am I right? Why can't I figure it out?? Ugh.
Reboot to recovery, select mount, select mount USB storage, plug it into pc, open disk utility and select sd, select erase and choose fat
When you're booted up an go in to Menu/Settings/Storage is nothing showing under Internal storage or Phone storage?

Okay. I am having problems with my usb storage. When i connect my phone to my computer via usb it pulls up as a disk drive right. I recently had a Rom that used "Usb mass storage" to connect as disk drive which gave me a higher level of access. I put the rom zip that i am using now on the root of my sd card using the "USB mass storage". Now, with this new rom, whenever i connect my phone to the computer i dont see my rom zip file on the root of the sd card. I cant find it anywhere. Do i need to format my sd card or something? Any ideas are appreciated. Please and thanks.
Stupid question probably, but do u have it on sd2? The regular stock roms only let u access sd2 from computer. HTC sync option lets u manage sd. At least that's how it is on mine.

So. Should I mount with HTC sync instead of as a disk drive? I done rightly know if it is sd 2 right now

Sure, why not. Do u have a sd card in it or are u just using the internal sd?

Ok, well can u see any other files when u select usb storage or whatever it is? If not try reformatting the sd card on your computer. Should be able to right click on portable drive.
When u try HTC synch can u see any files on sd or sd2? On your phone make sure the Rom zip is on sd2 or extsd and not sd. If that's the case then move it over to sd2. Then try mount as usb storage.
I have been trying this entire time to download the hct sync manager without success until now. It pulls up and syncs the music and such to my phone but nothing else. I cant view anymore than before. I booted into recovery to find exactly where i put the ROM zip and it is in /sdcard
When i open the phone on my computer i am looking into /sdcard2 . Did my card become partitioned or something? Now both of those are the external sd. Any ideas to get to where i can view it all. Like truly view the "root" of my sd card? On the card it would just be / How can i view just that on my computer? And ideas? Thanks
Move the Rom file from sd to sd2 in astro, es file manager, root explorer, whatever file manager u have. Then connect to computer and select usb mass storage.
U cannot view sd(1) on computer without HTC sync. Usb mass storage option lets u view sd2 only.
If u are having issues delete your old drivers and HTC sync then install again.
I'm not going to continue to repeat myself. Really don't understand "root" of sd card. U don't need a rom to be on root to view it on computer.
What does it do when u move it to sd2 then view on computer with mass storage?

Okay. Firstly, I don't need to move the ROM. I already flashed it in recovery. All I wanted was to see if I did something wrong that limited me to only be able to see that portion of my sd card. I know that my rom does not have to be on the root of the SD card. the only reason why I brought up was too create some correlation. I appreciate your help but this was merely for curiosity sake

Are u trying to view the android file system? There's no way to really do that. Its kinda like only the computer or phone can view sd card at one time. Since phone is actively using file system.
Maybe if u could explain what u want to do I would understand more. U want to view what exactly?
Root explorer lets u view every file on your phone. Have u tried that? Copy every file on root and paste to sd2= profit? : /
I thought I was doing pretty good with this One being used to the HTC One X . Now a new problem I can't figure out. When connecting usb. It says usb connected. Debugging mode checked. My computer says Android device , My HTC. but it wont show as a hard disk in the computer, It only shows as a portable media player. I can't access the SD card, can't go into Recovery and mount SD card to copy or delete. This just started when I flashed Cognition 1 rom. I had factory on it before and was reading the SD by copying and deleting roms to the card. Any backup I make in recovery and rename , it still has a label as factory rom.
Windows 8,
unlocked , rooted, TWRP recovery v 2.5
I have a folder on the SD card labeled "Roms" where I put the Rom zips to flash in recovery and can't find that now either. In settings , under storage there is "mount usb storage " as greyed out. I have deleted HTC sync. Deleted drivers, reintstalled drivers and back to where I was before. Any help ?

At least you offered something even if it didn't work. I can't figure out why it was working fine, then nothing. I can get to the"portable media player" thru my computer and all is recognized but the SD card wont show or be able to mount in recovery.
Yea I haven't ever had that issue yet lol if I find anything I'll post it here for ya maybe @gunnyman may have some insight he's been around the HTC block before

If you get stuck, I always choose sideloading because that doesn't require access to the phone storage.

I haven't got stuck yet to the point of no return. I tried using CWM no difference. Tried calling HTC. they offered no help. For some reason I just made another folder for roms and presto there is the folder. When in recovery I see the "rom" folder and whats in it, but connecting to the PC there is no folder except now the one I made. When I go back to recovery there is only one "rom" folder but I can also see what I put in it before making the new folder and adding to it. Still can't mount the SD card in recovery tho.

Download a ROM, put it in your SD-Card, mount it and flash it through recovery.
Smack that Thanks button if I helped!
XDAing from a N7105 powered by Illusion ROM.
Sent from a small country called Singapore.
P.S. Time for school, not much time for XDA
sideload is a mode within some recoveries that lets you easily flash roms/mods/etc without having it on your phone, you could look for another recovery for your phone and use that but first try to reformat sd in recovery again.
i assume you dont have a sdcard reader that you can place a rom on your card or you would have done so, but you can use adb
open a terminal in the location of the ROM you want (cd to it if you need)
adb push nameofROM.zip /sdcard
then also push gapps or whatever else you need
then flash from recovery
if the above wont work there are more ways
