Dead home button and bootloop - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So as the title suggests i have an dead home button and bootloop. This means that i can't boot into recovery to do a factory reset.I flashed the stock rom via odin but it still bootloops because of the previous cyanogenmod rom i had. I can't enter recovery by the up-power-home key combination and i also can't enter by the adb reboot recovery at bootloop.
I don't know if there is anything else to do, Is there any method i can wipe data and do a factory reset from odin ?

Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting' thread stickied in General; download the 3 part firmware linked to in thread & flash with Odin - this will wipe the phone & hopefully get rid of whatever is causing bootloop. Problems with flash ? Go through troubleshooting steps in thread methodically until you get a successful flash.

Oh my God, it worked! Thank you very much, i cannot believe it f****** worked! THANKS!

Good news, glad it worked. No probs Don't forget to thank the OP in Hopper's thread, he put a lot of time/effort into putting it together to make it the 'go-to' thread for S2 on here in these situations.

Hello!
I am facing a really similar problem, however, i can't enter the download mode (also because of the broken home button) to flash the 3 part firmware that was linked in that thread. Do you have any other idea? i also tryed the adb download mode but the computer is not recognizing the usb (SAMSUNG USB MTP failed).
Thanks in advance.

The only thing that *might* work is to force the phone into download mode with a USB jig.....then follow @Hopper8s guide as @MistahBungle suggested to the other poster. If your phone is bootlooping as opposed to being completely dead, you have a reasonable chance that the jig will work.
My wife says I'm a phone geek....She's probably right

hey!!
Thanks for the reply!! After about 50 trys, the phone miraculously entered the download mode with the technique of holding the volume down pressed and plugging a charger in it. After that i followed the steps described in the guide, flashed the 3 part firmware and worked like a charm!
Thx a lot for the help!!

Cant find link for 3 parts firmware ... any help plz ???

Check hopper8's odin troubleshooting guide. It is sticky'd in the general section and has a link (hosted by me) to the 3 part firmware in the OP

Well, can anyone share a recovery code for kies?
I was only helping a friend revive his device when its so bad now. Sheesh.
Warranty is over. Can't enter any mode.
You have to get into download mode & flash a stock rom with Odin. How ? Sticky near the top of Q&A (it's for I9100 but the process is the same, just make sure you get an I9100G rom or you'll bust the phone permanently). Also, search for Hopper8's 'Odin won't flash' thread if you have problems flashing.
^^^^what he said. In addition to that, use my guide if you can't enter download mode. There's a section aimed at that.

I can't get into download mode, which is the main issue. The power+home+ vol up combination wont work. Neither does any other combinations. It asked for Kies but Kies needs you to enter either mode. Which I can't.

Your post gave me hope, then shambled it . I did the second one using my chin. Nope. Sigh~
Its extremely hard to obtain a JIG in my country though. Any newly found methods? The owner allowed me to try everything.

S2 NOOB flashing

ok i recently purchased a samsung s2 i9100p with a software issue in the hope of fixing it. i didnt understand at time of purchase that custom roms/kernals etc might have been loaded onto the phone and now im completely confused.
what i know about the device is when power button is pressed i get the black samsung s2 i9100 loading screen and no more
ive then read about how to enter recovery mode and the phone doesnt boot into it but will boot into download mode which reads the following
odin mode
Product Name: GT-i9100
Custom Binary: YES (8 counts)
Current Binary: Samsung Official
so i have no idea what versions of the roms, kernels etc i require as i dont know the current versions installed if any. And i have read about devices being rooted and unrooted which has left me confused in that aspect.
i did locate an official ROM file for i9100p with orange lock which is what i believe i need as the phone has orange logo on back cover. but when i get into odin ive tried both old and new versions the phone get to the NAND Write Start Stage and then Fails.
Anyone out there any advice as to what im doing wrong? it would be greatly appreciated
Search for Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting' thread (do an advanced search on his username), try the stuff in that thread. You should successfully be able to flash it.

Thanks for quick reply il have a look at that now and see if i can get any further with it
It's a great thread/pretty much 'the reference' for this sort of thing on here, I'd be surprised if you can't recover it/get a successful Odin flash done with the info in it.

thanks alot mate at least i have a reference of what i should be doing now
downloading the files for this step
"Another option for i9100
If you have an i9100, probably the best option to flash is to flash 4.1.2 JellyBean leak. Download it here. This is a 3-part firmware. It will wipe your device as it flashes, and in many cases this extra wipe while flashing contributes to a successful flash. To set this file up in Odin (as it is 3 parts): PDA = CODE_I9100XXLSJ.tar, PHONE = MODEM_I9100XXLS6.tar, and CSC = CSC_HOME_OXX_I9100OXXLS1.tar. As usual, do not tick 'repartition'. "
in the hope the multiple files will be more successful than just the PDA> ROM flash i was trying. will post and let you know how it goes
Yep, hopefully the 3 part wiping the device will remove whatever remnants of what was previously on the phone that are causing the phone not to boot normally.

ok an update on my problem left it in repair shop and they managed to get it to boot to recovery but when i try and reset/wipe i am presented with a fallen over android with red triangle, its still stuck on boot loop but at least now i can access both recovery and download mode.
i also purchased a usb jig to try reset the counter but it doesnt reset must be whatever firmware on the phone from what ive read. after doing a check imei.info it shows that the phone is still under warranty until feb 2014 but i know because its been tampered with they probably wouldn't look at it
any guidance/suggestions would be greatly appreciated

[Q] SGS2 went off and won't come back on

Whenever I try to turn it on it shows the name and model with the yellow triangle (i had rooted stock) and then goes black, no samsung logo, no nothing. I can charge it (it has half battery) and i cannot go to recovery mode (gets stuck in yellow triangle image), but i can go to download mode.
Thing is, i think i have some stuff in the phone usb memory that wouldn't like to lose. Is there a way to access it withouth flashing?
Otherwise, whats the less dangerous thing to flash that won't erase more than needed. Or should i just flash stock and go from there?
Thanks for your help!
Stock rom from Samfirmware, flash with Odin. How ? Thread stickied near top of Q&A has instructions. Shouldn't wipe your stuff.
However....if this doesn't fix the problem, you will be faced with doing a wipe or flashing a 3 part firmware which will also wipe the phone.
Unfortunately it is not working. Odin keeps failing... I checked Kies is not running and am starting Odin as admin in Win 8.1.
So where could i get a three part firmware to flash? (Can't go to recovery, so I can't wipe either)
Thanks!

Search for Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting' thread & try everything in that thread except the 3 part firmware first at least couple of times, some of the other ideas in his thread might work for you & you may not need to wipe the phone.
If you try all that stuff & it doesn't work, then you bite the bullet & flash the 3 part firmware (there's a link in the thread) which hopefully gets rid of any 'remnants' of what was on the phone previously which may be causing problems.
I read somewhere that windows 8 doesn't play nice with Odin...... See if you can get hold of a laptop / PC with an older OS on it.......

I thought you can run/open it in a mode for older os ie. w7.You could do that in w7 if a program didnt work, you ran it in xp mode.
Ive got w8 64 bit,but since odin works ok,Ive not checked if its got the facility.

PS spend some time and learn about the ( adb ) commands as can get you around/out of some tricky problems in Android devices.

Phone stuck at some weird logo for me.

Hello,
This is my first post here. Just now I was trying to flash PhilZ Touch using Odin. While it's still in process, I accidently pulled the usb cable from my phone. I thought it was fine. So I removed my battery since at that time I was still at download mode. But when I tried to on my phone, it stucked at the image that I attached below. What should I do to fix it?
That's forced download mode - to fix, flash stock firmware with Odin - as you're already in download mode, you don't need to try & boot into it, just connect the phone to the PC via USB & off you go. Problems flashing ? Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting thread stickied in General has the info you need to get a successful flash.

Thank you for the reply sir. Can you explain it more detail? Is it just flashing the stock firmware with Odin will fix it? Or maybe there's some other steps that I need to do?
'...to fix, flash stock firmware with Odin...' (I won't be posting this a 3rd time), thread stickied near top of Q&A titled 'Flash stock firmware' has instructions.
Alright. I'll try it out. Right now, still downloading the stock firmware. Btw, I'm using I9100G so, are the steps still the same? Because what it says on the thread is

Yes. Just make sure you download I9100G firmware, he's wrong - usage of Odin is exactly the same for all I9100 variants - extract .tar.md5 file from zip you DL from Samfirmware, junk .dll file in the zip, put .tar.md5 file in PDA section of Odin, click start.
I've already given you more than enough info that you could easily have found by searching, so I won't be posting to this thread again. Up to you to fix it now...

You need to try as many of the troubleshooting steps in Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting' thread stickied in General as many times as you need to until you get a successful Odin flash.

. i've seen it but i can't get my phone opened with odin in any ccomputer :.\
1) I don't believe you've tried everything in that thread multiple times. You are looking for an easy fix. There isn't one. Perseverance & actually following the help you've been given fixes these things.
2) There's nothing else which isn't in the thread that can be suggested in these situations; the thread covers every single possibility.
You can either do what I said in my PP or your phone stays busted. I don't really care either way, as I won't be looking at this thread again.
