I was attempting to unlock the bootloader on my AT&T HTC One M8 and when you press power and vol down and you go to select fastboot...well my finger accidentally slipped and I hit the option below that. I do not remember what it is but now I have a red phone with a triangle and exclamation point in it on my screen that I can't get rid off.
Help please!
Issue resolved figured out how to advance recovery mode. Thanks in advance
Glad you found the solution. But for the benefit of others, the red exclamation point is stock recovery. To enter recovery options menu from there, I believe you press power+vol up.
Not sure if there is a reboot option from there. But at any point AFAIK you can also hold power+vol up (for several seconds) to reboot the phone.
Thank you! I found that the power + vol up is what got me into further settings. I have really only rooted Samsung devices so it was a little different and I panicked lol but I found that out and thank you for the other info about being able to reboot the phone I did not know that. But its all working well now and I have flashed a ROM and all. Thank you!

Hi,
I tried to put my hero in recovery mode. So I turned off the phone, then pressed menu key and power button, then I released power button and kept holding menu button. Icon with exclamation mark inside triangular and a phone appeared and I can't do anything. I can't turn it off or anything. What is going on? Please help.
Just take the battery off the hero and insert it again.
man dude, turn off the crank. your phone won't do anything without power, so just pull the batt...
btw, where did you read menu+power? never heard of that. recovery is home+power.

I think menu+power is fastboot
Thanks for your replies.
My mistake, it was not power+menu, but power+home. Why I don't have recovery mode and I get screen with icon instead?
okay, so i am trying to boot into my recovery (im wanting to run through jonsuh's recommended stuff)
but i get to a screen that says:
(highlighted) HBOOT
<send> fastboot mode
<vol up> recovery
and then i hit recovery but it goes immediately to a black screen with the phone and a triangle with an exclamation point in it and will just sit there.
can anyone direct me to a thread to tell me what im being an idiot about or just help me out!? thanks!
Recovery failure...bricked...return for replacement
I had the same problem with my daughters Eris. Verizon had to replace it with a refurbished phone.
That sucks. I JUST got it refurbished from verizon...

The question is.. what are you trying to do? What are you trying to flash?
If you just want to go flash a signed rom from an RUU, you can rename it pb00img.zip and flash it from hboot.
It's just sitting there because there's nothing for it to do. It's behaving perfectly normal for an unrooted Eris.
Actually, I figured it out. It may seem trivial, but when I would hit the vol down + power, and then hit vol up I was pressing vol up not holding vol up. Now I have two droid eris' running kaosfroyo
Does that make any sense?

Actually, no - it doesn't make sense. You can't use the stock recovery to install a dev ROM, because it won't pass the signing checks.
The only known ".zip" files that will pass signing checks using the stock recovery are the OTAs (renamed to "update.zip")
For the record, the behavior you noticed (with the dark screen w/ the triangle, exclamation point, and phone graphic) is normal - to get the "Recovery <2e>" menu to appear, you press Vol-Up+End a second time after that image appears. (Or possibly just Vol-Up).

I have just upgraded my hero from official 2.1 to froydvillain 1.7.0,
I used ROM Manager to finish this upgrade. Everything gets fine.
And now, I decide to update to 1.7.1 and 1.7.2.
The problem I am now facing is...
when I click "Reboot into Recovery"...
my phone will not reboot into Recovery anymore, but only stop at a screen with the word HERO...
Anyone could help? I successfully enter Recovery Mode when my first time of upgrade. I dont know why I cant this time. So I cant do any upgrade or flash another rom. Please help. Many thanks.
I think there are two other ways to enter in recovery mode.
1. Press and keep pressed HOME button while powering the phone on.
2. Enter in HBOOT (press and keep pressed vol down button while powering the phone on) and select Recovery option.
I hope this helps you.

I have tried these 2 methods but cant help.
(1) is what i did before and sucessfully flashed a customised rom for the first time. but after that, i did the same but cant enter recovery mode. its so strange. just stop on a screen in black background with HERO logo.
(2) I tired this too. I saw a white background with green text. But i cant find Recovery option.
Any other suggestions? Many thanks.
Problem solved.

I'm the stock att rom on 2.3.4. I had my phone for a while but never backed up my ROM. I performed a permissions fix and rebooted. I selected backup ROM and it rebooted. The phone tried to reboot but got stuck trying to boot to recovery menu. I hit the volume button and got the Rom M. recovery menu. None of the options work. It just shows an icon and does nothing. If I hit the volume button it goes back to menu. I've tried to reboot several times and it keeps on booting to a non functional Rom Manager menu.
I'm done my searches and I'm no luck. Is there a way to recovery without completely wiping the phone? I'm hoping there's an easy way to recover the boot using Odin?
Here's exactly what I did in that situation .. take the battery out and leave it out for about 2 hours.. this will totally deplete your phone of any kind of power.. after your done put it back in and it should boot up perfectly! If not try to take it out for longer

Depending on which version of cwm you are booting into...what button are you using to select? Most of them its either power or the home button. Try the home button to select.

Thanks for the response but I don't see how this would fix the problem as it boots from internal storage and not the memory. I'll try it while I'm doing research and waiting for more responses.

Much Thanks!!!!! Karashta. Selecting the home bottom to select instead of the power is the proper way of selecting the menu's.
Thanks for making my day.

You only need to hold (Volume Up + Power) until it reboots.
