Bootloader unlocking - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi i just checked my bootloader status says NO, is there anyway to unlock it? Would it be possible maybe later on..? I Want to try cm but i heard my bootloader needs to be unlocked to get that rom?

As for now, there's no way to unlock BL units with Bootloader Unlock Allowed = NO. You may try but I knew someone who ended up hard-bricking his phone.

You can unlock it officialy but will loose warranty.

there is no way to unlock your non unlockable bootloader as of this point today
your bootloader contains encrypted files which means you cant edit them easily, decrypting them can take a pro developer upto 3 years as each devices encryption key is different as well as encryption type however type depends on when it was manufactured

that doesnt apply for xperia Z2, the firmware on the xperia Z2 has a set of encryption types and keys which it runs, all is verified with various partitions. some of thr partitions are encrypted hence you CANT UNLOCK YOUR BOOTLOADER if your device has these encrypted files and partitions.
it will either FAIL unlock or your device will BRICK. most xperias are the same, its very rare this actualy works. estimated to be 1:1.3m

unlock bootloader on sim locked phone?

I have read around but found no answer..
Some say its impossible some say its possible can some one tell me for sure if its possible and if it is how would I do it?
And in the service menu it says "Bootloader unlock allowed: No"
used the GENERIC rom 042
Bootloader unlock allowed: YES
and use omnius

And how do i do that..
To flash other ROM, you can try WotanServer or Flashtool, last one requires correct files, WotanServer needs, that you only pick, which version of firmware you want(and free account).

Yes you can do it in stock with Wotan server but take into account that this process only changes the firmware version you are on for a generic one from se maybe a newer one but nothing more after this you still won't be able to flash custom kernels or roms unless you unlock your bootloader and fast boot.
You can try the unofficial way for the bootloader and it might work I cannot warranty it but it will not be that good as most of the roms need they own kernels and you will need access to fastboot mode to do that, unfortunately you need to completely unlock your phone either with omnius or setool to gain access to fastboot and this will cost you some money.
How can flashing that 042rom allow bootloader unlocking??
Just for the hell of it, i flashed my mini pro with that rom and it has not let me unlock the bootloader at all so im a little confused here

Man that is why I hate when people just write for the like of it!!! @ seansmit17 this is not with you I hope you know what I mean.
If you have the message unlock bootloader allowed: no; then it means your phone is sim locked this will lock the fastboot mode too so you will not be able to flash a custom kernel unless you unlock the sim and fastboot mode (connecting the phone turned off and holding the volume up key to the computer = blue notification led with turned off screen and phone), the only means that I know off to unlock is either omnius or setool, this is for the sim and fastboot and it is not free.
For the bootloader you can use the test point method found in the development section, of course I can't guarantee it will work and of course this will NOT UNLOCK YOUR SIM OR FASTBOOT MODE BUT ONLY YOUR BOOTLOADER.
When you install a generic firm with Wotan server it is like a seus upgrade and nothing else well it will allow you to get the last upgrades when they come out due to a change in product code but that's it. The same with flashtool but without the change in product code.
Hope it helps.

Unlocking bootloader from Live with Walkman

I researched about the matter, and reached some conclusions:
- I don't want to use the TEST POINTER method, I really don't care about OTA updates or Track ID app (as far as I know there are no more consequences), Shazam and Soundhound do the same
- I would like to unlock the bootloader in some manner that, if I need to relock the warranty will still be valid (same goes for root, but I guess flashing an original firmware unroots the device)
That said, found the official instructions to unlock the BL, but still have the main question: is it the procedure completely reversible? Also, is it free?
Thanks in advance. Also really appreciate if someone corrects something wrong I said.

you can still relock your bootloader and receive official sony updates, but the problem is, you loose DRM(in which if sony finds out, you still lose warranty).
i found this thread and said that DRM cannot be restored :/
I don't know about non free relocking if it will be able to restore DRM though.
oh and by the way, this thread provides the easiest way to unlock and relock your bootloader for free.
goodluck and enjoy
DRM cannot be restored at all.
Install TrackID from market and it will work.
Bootloader can be relocked, doesn't matter how you unlocked.
And yes, it is free.

Ok, so I suppose the DRM Keys only affect the OTA updates (how should we care if we are unlocking BL for custom ROMs
So, I suppose if I have a problem on my Live (but it still turns on), I apply an OFW and then relock it, it's a matter of luck if the techical assistance is going to check if the DRM is still valid or not.
What method do you advice to unlock the BL?

Method, pick which is better for you. I used official method, no messing with cables.

Unlock it the way you prefer to it does not matter it will lose warranty any way it is just luck if they will check it or not at the service center. Any way it is really hard to completely brick your phone unless you don't know what you are doing. The main difference is with the test point method you are able to update using seus without problems and it looks more complicated than it really is I only used a clip
just a question about unlocking thru official method.
since you would have to get the unlock key directly from Sony.
would they be able to track your phone since you will be giving them some details like your name, IMEI, email etc. to get the unlock code?
do the service centers have access to that database?
There are no Sony Mobile Service Centers, phones need to be taken back to shop and they use service of specific mobile repair shop.
Depending on what reason you need to take it back, they might want to check it or not. No one has so far done this, so we have no information.

There is no risk either way the difference is that with the official method you will lose your drm (Digital rights management) and the official support of track id (the app from se that you use to search for the info of a song playing in the radio or the tv etc.) meanwhile using the test point method you will not lose them. If you want to install a custom rom like cm9 or miui you need to unlock your bootloader to be able to flash the custom kernels those roms need.

I just want to understand the following. Some Live's come with "unlock bootloader allowed"="no" others ="yes". What does that means and more important: what are the implications?
I cannot understand the difference because as fair as I understand right now, all live's (branded/sim unlocked or not) are unlockable (referring to bootloader).

When they come with boot loader unlock : no it is a branded sim locked phone in which case you can unlock bootloader but you will have no access to fastboot meaning you are unable to flash a custom kernel, also there will be no way you can officially unlock the bootloader so will have to use the test point method and of course you will need to pay to fully unlock your phone to be able to access fastboot and flash custom kernels.
Did I miss something??

So, for sim locked branded phones ("no")
- To unlock the bootloader: test point method
- Access fastboot: use (and pay) through wotan server
Am I right? I never though that was two different problems.

I'm not really sure about Wotan server however I'm pretty sure about setool and omnius and if you are willing to pay the phone will be fully unlocked (bootloader, sim and fastboot) with one procedure using the test point method.

So, I'm curious, if I have branded sim lock Live ("no" bootloader) can I install an original firmware without using an official channel? Do I need fastboot access?
I'm asking because I'm almost sure that my carrier will not update the Live to 4.0, so I suppose I have to use some other tool in order to install it.

This is done different. WotanServer requires using the test point method, this also enables the fastboot. However, this works only on phones, that have been manufactured before 12W11. Newer phones have newer type of security, test point method no longer works on those.
Using the code is inserted by firmware, it does allow different SIM cards, however does not affect bootloader at all.
I can unlock and relock my bootlader via s1tool crippled with s2 cmds ,no problem , I recieve virgin unlock from Sony , on Sony headed paper , but no it didnt reset my status to yes , im wondering if fastboot will enable now I have no sim lock,or will I have to edit the sin tool cmd file for mango or get jinxs to enable all for me

Unable to unlock bootloader

I just bought the Z2 phone which is UNBRANDED and check that the BOOTLOADER can be UNLOCKED under the configuration menu. The phone is rooted which I verified through a program. Using Android 4.4.2, Build 17.1.2.A..0.314
Tried the flashtools to unlock it
Flashtools - gives me the error that the bootloader cannot be unlocked. Tells me to unplug the phone and turn it on.
Any help?
Try 2-3 times.
But first root with easyroot then backup the TA partition then while in root, unlock. Everything will work.

You might want to try the "old-fashion" way?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2440597
You have to root first to backup TA partition (or don't haha but please do it is essentially your warranty)
Then go to the Sony Dev page to get your unlock code. You need your imei. Then, use that in fastboot(not flashtool oops). The instructions are in the Sony page. This WILL wipe your phone so you might wanna tibu stuff into your sdcard

I would suspect that if Sony wanted to be arses about it that they will take the obtaining an unlock code as proof it was unlocked, do you tick a box to say you accept you are voiding your warranty when you request the code? But it doesn't make a difference what method you use as both require the unlock code from Sony.

Redmi note 4 rooting

Hello guys,
I've been trying to root this phone since i've bought it, problem is every option i read on the web doesnt work because phone's bootloader is locked, and all methods get to this point when u have to unlock ur phone bootloader but in order to do that u have to get in the phone bootloader wich is locked. So who the hell is giving advices like these i dont know. Problem is that i am motivated to still root it, nothing its impossible.
So i am asking, did anyone from EU, with the EU ROM (full of mallware) MIUI 8, managed to unlock its bootloader and then managed to root it ?! please lets discuss here the options that work and the options that didnt work so we can make it through and solve this problem, everything thats on web at this moment 27-11-2016 doesnt work on the False EU MIUI 8.
Thanks.

Not posibble without unlocked bootloader. Even the pre-rooted China Developer rom needs phone with unlocked bootloader. Good luck with unlocking the bootloader.
EU ROM full of malware?!?! Where did you get that idea? Completely false.
Anyway as said, yes you do need to unlock bootloader. Impossible any other way, because the system has dm-verity (similar to HTC S-On) which prevents modification to /system. So if you can't modify system or boot partition then you can't put Superuser binaries anywhere. Unlocked bootloader allows to put Superuser on boot pertition.

No because dm-verity is enabled/set in the kernel (ramdisk on boot partition), and if you modify the boot partition with a locked bootloader then it won't boot
Locked bootloader = prevents boot partition from being tampered with
dm-verity = set in boot partition, prevents system partition from being tampered with
So you simply need to unlock bootloader, there is just no other way to exploit the device (no possible attack vector). The device is very secure, like all Marshmallow devices.
So what is this false EU firmware you speak of? Obviously not the xiaomi.eu one because that requires unlocked bootloader.
You can flash global stable via SP Flash Tool, that's your best bet while waiting for bootloader unlock. If it's taking more than 1 week then you can contact official support or something via en.miui.com forum (its down at the moment for some reason).

You can download it for free, just search for MiFlash - it's not a secret tool or anything.
Attempting to see what actually happens...? Even if I had the skills to reverse engineer MediaTek security, I wouldn't do it.
You're trying to do such simple things to trick the system but you need to realize that this hardware has been verified by Google themselves as secure and safe enough for Android Pay and SafetyNet and such. It *can not* be easily cracked, accept it.
Replacing recovery.img with TWRP? Seriously? How dumb do you think these companies are? Sorry for being rude but you really are just being silly.
You are wasting your own time, and now mine too... Sorry but I'm going to unsubscribe now because these questions are just getting silly.

Man, I did not know that xiaomi actually put that much effort on making their mediatek phones actually google levels of secure.
Was always under the impression that they sorta skimped out on their mediatek lines (as they had before).

Man, I did not know that xiaomi actually put that much effort on making their mediatek phones actually google levels of secure.
Was always under the impression that they sorta skimped out on their mediatek lines (as they had before).
Now I'll just not try to unlock it unofficially lol

They had before sure, but in the recent year or so (since they started actually locking bootloaders) things changed - they want to target international market too.
Only reason the devices are not sold globally is because of some Mediatek patent/legal battle or something, not too sure (it's literally the only reason why they have snapdragon "pro" versions). But the device has a global firmware sold in Taiwan and some other places, and it is Google CTS certified (preinstalled with Google Play) and, since it's Marshmallow, requires all kinds of Google-approved security measures these days, which a lot of countries need legally too, so yeah.
Glad you understand. I read that if it takes too long to get unlock code, you should try/already be flashed on China dev ROM - so do that if you have not already.
Have you tried the unlocking link on this link? http://xiaomi-mi.com/redmi-note-4/
