You should probably tell people the swap script included is designed for an sdcard that has three partitions (standard, extX, and swap) and the size of the swap determines the amount of additional RAM it adds. This should not really exceed 1024MB though or it will start to slow the device down instead.
The mod is also using Zepplinrox's SuperCharger which matters since that is a fully configurable package on its own and can be tweaked even further for each build. I only glanced, so I am not sure if it is already configured or using the default settings the original package came with, but the script has a configuration wizard built into it.

You may have scripts from your ROM that are fighting with the ones in this or you don't have the partitions for swap and it is crashing the kernel boot.
I also noticed swap is set to 90. 90 will definitely make the RAM free huge, but 60 is much safer to prevent it from working like a supersonic jet on a crash course (really fast at startup and getting slower by the minute until a lockup). At 60, you still get a significant increase but don't loose any noticeable performance.

I use it too and i had to reflash it because my gaming performance drops bad , i deleted the swap config file inside init.d but my performance continued bad so i reflash mark´s rom and its amazing again without this patch :highfive: , i think we need better sd in order to use this patch. :silly:

For swap, you need at least a class 10 to balance out the lag from using virtual ram.

My God... This "mod" is not for GB! In GB we have sufficient RAM to run everything. I don't use an ICrappy ROM, nor CM 10.... You misunderstood. Did you do a nandroid backup?
Edit: Just a confession, super off-topic.. I tried every ROM for XP, from GB to mike 4.4.4... and the my conclusion is so obvious. GB is the better choice so far to PLAY GAMES. Why people insists on ICS+? Why have an ugly, heavy phone with a dedicated gamepad to do any other thing that is not PLAY GAMES? I really don't understand. In GB I play all Xperia Play Optimized games with any kind of lag, or stutter.. Try play Crazy Taxi, Fifa 12, FPSE with Open GL... and others on ICS+... it's a joke, if anyone run well, you need to put your phone offline cause a WhatsApp message will destroy the fps.. lol..
Praying to @vokal1992 never stop his project... Best thing available for us.. Sorry for bad English, and I don't want to offense any guy

Reicast. It will never work on GB.
The trick to ICS being an improvement is that instead of saying the old system was better (which it isn't), get rid of all the added bloat that came with an improved core leaving JUST the improved core. Memory management is more efficient, AsyncTask was improved drastically, and a whole list of other upgrades. Sony dropped the update because they weren't making enough profit on the device to justify the investment, not because it would be a step back if they had kept going. It isn't the version that makes it seem less capable, it is all the excess junk from other phones being used for bigger feature lists in the builds.

The memory you're talking about here is called RAM, or random access memory. The "300 that's running nothing" is used by the processor to complete tasks. I think that the more you have available, the quicker new tasks will be executed.

That's about right. HTC sense is a big resource hog for all the eye-candy. Once some AOSP roms come out all that bloat will be removed and the memory will be available. Also some people swear by task-killers to free RAM but many sources say that those are actually worse for efficiency/battery life. Android is supposed to use more RAM and use it efficiently. As far as task-killers go, that's up to the individual user I guess and therefore I won't go into it any further.
BTW, thanks for the "thanks" I guess, even though it was unintentional.

hahahahaahhaahahahha oh I DO ****ING NOW ABOUT THAT,
THE damned part is i have as much ram left as on my iphone 3gs and thats just bad.. ~120mb with doing nothing. played 1 game and opened 1 app and 2 tabs internet..
Sounds like something is off if you seriously have your phone fresh out of the box and you're having RAM that low.
I have open Internet (Aurora), Plants v Zombies, Root Explorer, Market, Gmail, Twin Pic, and all the other stuff that's always running (I don't use any task killers), and I still have 229MB free.
They all show the same amount of RAM total, but there shouldn't be anything running you down that low. I find myself hard-pressed to get below 200MB regardless of what I run.
Download a task manager (a real one, not the built-in one) and check out what's eating up so much RAM.

Ding ding ding! That is the first intelligent thought that I have read in this thread. It also happens to be the right answer.

RAM is full

Since a few weeks my S is really slow and unstable, i only have about 40 mb free ram. There are hardly any apps running. The launcher redraws every time I use an app and I also get a memory error when using the camera from time to time.
Any ideas what's causing this?

I also have some concerns regarding the memory management on the XS. I owned a htc evo 3d (same amount of ram) and, even with the hungry Sense interface, I used to have around 400 mb of free ram.
Right now, with my rooted and cleaned XS I have just 80 mb of free ram...

How epic to see people rage about ram on android..
The mostly common thing people should do...
Search and read..
Android isnt windows..
Its like this:
You play Battlefield 3 on your pc but your diagrams says: Gpu(graphical proces unit) usage 60%.
So your card is not working optimum.. So what should we do now? I have an idea! Lets bring out an patch!
*Next day releasing patch like a boss*
(not)
You start the game and guess what!?
It needs to be updated. So thats done, you start the game and its now 100%! Wow what an improvement! And it has higher fps!
Thats the idea of the android memory management. Its just for us to not to rage because its `slow`.
Short:
More memory for system is better, more space.

Efe, thank you for your post but: 1. I am not a noob and 2. I wrote the very same things tens of times to people asking for killing apps manually.
I just wanted to underline the difference between two devices with identical amount of ram. I wouldn't complain about the ram management in the XS if it wasn't for the home redraw, which I never experienced on the evo.
(sorry for bringing up againg this aged topic)

Yes, I understand that you are like the pro-master-hero of android, but the problem here is that the ram IS FULL! And the phone HANGS!
I've heard that when you need ram, the android system kills apps that you aren't using to free-up some space, but actually my phone doesn't do that, it just becomes really slow untill I kill manually some applications from the apps/running tab.
What can I do to fix that?
(I run ICS)
Use a RAM cleaner, like from the app "Airdroid"
Lol scavenger digging.
Anyway in those last two years I learned that android is more ram-hungry than, say, Windows xp.
So with 512mb there is very little you can do but save money for something with more ram.

Oh, you're serious...
Tried it: Yes
How does it play: Well... it does play, but there is CONSIDERABLE lag.. but it is smooth lag, if that makes sense.
You can see stutters in the game start-up flyby and the initial beach landing. but the FPS are just enough so that you can move and engage the enemy, Just don't count on reaction time... you have none.
ROM: GB 2.3.3 (ALL bloatware removed and I include FB, twitter and etc as bloatware) approx 150MB free memory

If you're paying money to play Modern Combat 4 on the XPERIA X10i only.. Don't do it, you're wasting your money
The XPERIA X10i will play "Front Line Commando", but again there is considerable lag.

Just be aware, you will need EVERY drop of memory you can wring out of the XPERIA X10i.
I would say 150MB of free memory is the minimum and that'll mean Force Closing any service application you have active.
I couldn't even get a screenshot beyond the initial loading stage as aScreenshot.apk was swapped out of memory.
At least on the XPERIA X10i with MC4 the easy level becomes the new extreme level
Enjoy...if you can.

I think the thanks goes to zerta x (buda1996) and fera kernel 3.6. By the way, are the graphics same on other devices as on ours???? Cz i dont see that much detail
It's playable very much on DiXperia 8 Gaming version, but to be honest, this ROM is not free. I think DiKeJ shows on his YT channel how games working on this version, there wasn't MC4 there (video was recorded before relase I think), but still there are games like N.O.V.A. 3 or The Amazing Spider-Man and I can say that having Premium by DiKeJ is preety awesome feature .

If I compare a 480x854 X10i with BRAVIA engine v1 to an XPERIA LT26i 720x1280 with BRAVIA engine v2 ... then yes there is a lack of sharpness and picture depth.
But that's a bit unfair as you're comparing a WVGA to a HD 720p screen so there has to be a loss of clarity.
My screen captures in previous post are 80% reduced jpg, so if your image on your screen doesn't look 20% better than my screen captures, maybe your screen is not reaching it's potential. Maybe if I 'kill' the BRAVIA engine (if it does have some benefits/impact on X10i) then I may get a few extra FPS with a slight loss of screen sharpest. Swings and roundabouts.
BTW. The battery gets pretty toastie.

Use swap file up to 180 mb with swapiness 40.

if i remeber correctly than this swap does nothibg other than compress the cache data of an app and save it on the sd card so you can use more ram. if you start the app again the data will be loaded into cache again instead of building it up again. So the app starts could take a little longer.
And i heard that the sdcard can crash because of this (what should take years so...) and thats why i dont use it. for much ram use some light rom, techdevils is very good.
and ram is there to be full so dont use a task killer, free ram is useless.

Thanks for the info. I dont use a task killer but manually kill apps in running services and if the card crash, i won't use it. And what are your views about fera's v21 and v22? Are they good enough for heavy games?????

i have no idea i think i tested v20 but didn't like themes and now i have a ps vita so.... not much playing with x10 anymore. especially for gaming i had techdevils ultimate gaming rom (tug) and dixperia 8 gaming which are mostly at the same level in performance, but tug is ugly (notification background).
i mostly choose dx8 gaming because i like light roms. If you take techdevils meego light rom or some light stockbased rom and supercharge it you should be able to get everything out of your x10

working on my version of halo app just waiting for PA to finalise their halo for kk:highfive:
Hello everybody,
I'd like to try it out but in my previous experience with kk I had some issues... For example the ram consumption was too much... I'm using utter and facebook for my business all the time so there's not any ram left and the phone becomes unusable... (I'm talking like 70 RAM remaining..) whereas on SJB I'm having all of those apps running and I still have 150 RAM left...
Is there any improvement in this particular rom?
Thanks in advance.

Im using it a whole day without experiencing any random reboots.
The Ram consumption is pretty amazing. I have an average of 150 to 180mb of free ram on idle.
even when facebook, messenger and google+ all open at once, its always fast.
technically this is the best and fastest rom ive ever tested on haida.
Camera works like a charm, tested all settings on both Picture and Video recording and got no problem.
And for Gaming, its sure fast and lag free at it has lots of free ram, tested Real Racing 2 and CSR Racing without any slowdowns.
Its like i have new phone on my Hand.
@rebelos your the best man. keep up the good work. :highfive:

So this one is for AOSP and CM right?

I'm using it on LineageOS 14.1, it should work on every ROM that's based on the Lineage source code.
Glad that you liked my stock kernel, feedback is always good to receive! (especially if it's positive )
I forgot to say that this kernel runs by default at 1,4GHz guaranteeing better smoothness than you get while on 2,4GHz with the stock lineage kernel, this means less heating -> less thermal throttling -> buttery smooth.
You can obviously ramp up the CPU clock even with the simplest kernel app if you don't like this setting, but you'll see little to no performance gain since my kernel is well optimized, we're obviously talking about simple gaming and normal usage, it's pretty obvious that with heavy gaming you'll get better fps with higher CPU clocks.
Thanks for the new kernel.
What's up with GPU Extra libs? Do you recommend us to flash it? I don't play games by the way.

Oh I've always used Linaro since I started developing kernels, maybe I should try something different, nice idea
That's why feedback is useful guys, keep it up and future releases will be even better thanks to your opinions and ideas!
New releases will be compiled with Uber Toolchain 8.0!

Running since 20 hours. Running great and very smooth. No stutters or lags whatsoever. Only change i did was to drop min cpu to 1. Near empty to full charge took between 2 and a half to 3 hours.

That's great to hear, the charge was a bit slow in your case, mine takes max 1 hour to fully charge...I'll look into it.
Great work, but UberTC 8 is new and probably have many bugs, i would start with very stable version 4.9.3, then 5.3 and then 6.0 eventually.
Its old changelog here but it gives general idea about versions.
