I've searched and didn't find an answer on this so if it has been asked and answered I apologize.
Since Sprint and HTC have released a ROM update will Verizon be following suit?
My phone is a daily worker and I can't afford to spend the time with trial and error on DCD's ROM, although it is very tempting.
Thanks

I myself haven't seen any official confirmation or even hinting from VZW that they're releasing an upgrade. Sprint announced it what, back in October? I'd imagine if VZW was going to follow suit we would've heard something by now. I'm gonna check a few sites and see what I can find.
Was wondering the same thing earlier today.
I doubt it...
I asked a second level support tech that yesterday and he didn't know anything about it - but that is not a surprise to me...
Its fairly common knowledge in some circles that VZW is very secretive (or maybe they just dont let their ppl know) about this stuff.
I imagine an update is indeed in the works, but nobody you talk to at VZW will have any knowledge. Those familiar with VZW and updates also know that it will probably be some time after the other carriers have their updates out. Slow and steady must be their motto...
Why wait? Trial and error with DCD's rom? Load and go.
I'm with Sprint and can't even see myself ever running a stock ROM again.

We haven't, but there are a few little nagging issues that might be resolved by a stock ROM from Verizon w/ GPS and Rev A.
For me, anytime I run a *228, my phone goes into the 20 minute acquiring signal dance. I hate that beat.
After reading through 50+ pages in the regular ROM and the 4 pages on VZW I'm holding off because of some of the smaller problems people are having with wifi, MMS, bluetooth, etc.
I'm the kind of person that if there is a 1% chance of it happening it will happen to me and I can't afford to be without my phone.
Plus it is still a bit confusing with the radio stuff, loading 2.40 unlocker first, it gets a bit much for a dabbler like myself.
Maybe if there was a very simple cut & dried walk through of what you need to do to prepare/download/install then load I'd do it.
Heck, I didn't even know what the hell a 'kitchen' was in regards to a ROM when I first got the XV6800 and I've been a smartphone/pocket pc guy for a long time
It is very very easy to go back to the stock verizon rom and radio as well as the original bootloader if you have any of these problems....but as I've said in other threads....I've flashed 3 phones now with absolutely none of the problems you've mentioned.
In that case could you point me to the best walk through on doing it including what I need (bootloaders etc)? I've seen so many that make it seem like defusing an atomic bomb and then other that just say "run it & git er done' so I don't know which to follow.
Thanks so much

Search my posts. I made a good one step by step last night.
Man you have a ton of posts to search through I think I found the right one.
So you've got MMS working no problem? I use MMS all the time and don't want to loose it like some people have.
Your steps seem to involve already using a cooked ROM are the steps the same for a 'virgin' xv6800?

The only additional step for a virgin xv6800 is that you need to install Olipro 2.40 unlocker first. Be sure to turn off USB in ActiveSync when done and the phone will boot back into the OS. You can then run the Sprint update (DO NOT LET THE SPRINT CUSTOMIZATIONS RUN!) followed by the cooked DCD ROM.
Be sure to check off MMS when cooking the ROM. If you don't see it, DCD left it out and you might have to find the OEM from an older version (it was left out of 3.0.0) My old GF from when I was 14 found me on MS monday and used MMS to send me old pics yesterday....it works. ;D

I have a 'virgin' xv6800 enroute. It should arrive Thursday or Friday. My first task will be to see if I can get GPS working. I'm a veteran Kyocera 6035, then 7135, followed by a Treo 650 but reading about cooking the ROM, etc is truly virgin territory!
Can you post the link to the post you found? Thanks!
I know verizon isn't exactly known for giving it's users new featured readily but my guess on this is they WILL eventually offer an updated patch with this GPS and RevA so they can rent you VZNavigator on a monthly basis.
But expect them to disable normal satellite tracking and limit it to AGPS reception so your forced to use VZNav and not Google Maps!

Very easy? Would you point me in the right direction on where to find the original radio rom, as well as the OS rom? From what I understand to get back to the original bootloader, you just have to use the titan relock, right?

Pro with the MMS? Maybe you can tell me how to hell to use it. I'd like to look at pictures for more than 5 seconds. It's such a pita to use, maybe I'm just not comfortable with it yet. I hated my last phone, but it was so easy to sent and view MMS messages.
Since you're going from the stock rom, there's a chance you won't be able to place calls after the flash.
Call verizon, tell them you did a hard reset and can't place calls. If they press for answers, make something up... installed a program and the radio went apespit, etc. They'll get you working again.
Over at hofo a user said the tech on the phone asked him if he unlocked the GPS, the caller played stupid, but the tech knew what was up and still helped him out.
SO far so good.
I installed Olipro 2.40.
I then installed the stock Sprint ROM.
I let it run until i aligned the screen and it connected to my computer then I re-set it. I didn't know when it would try to customize my device so maybe I stopped too soon.
I'm not sure what you meant by "manually set it in bootloader" after that and since nothing came up asking to set anything on the reset I continued on to the DCD ROM.
It loaded no problem and everything seems to be working but I just tried a test call after doing *228,1 and it says they can't authenticate my phone.
SO at this point I guess I need to call VZW and get some help right or did I do something wrong

You stopped at the right time.
You will need to let Verizon know that you had to hard reset your phone and need the A Key. They will help you.
Were you following my directions?
Ok,
So after spending a few years with an o2 xda/htc artermis which I flashed a couple of years back. Tomtom running nicely etc... i've decided to order a htc hero on t-mobile.
I've had a look around the forum and noticed Modaco's custom roms.
Now, i'm not totally confident in doing this... but with this kind of thing I never am... I crossed my fingers many times when flashing my old o2 xda. I want the wifi tethering app, although most of my tethering will probably be done via usb anyway! This is just one reason for wanting it to be rooted.
Is there a way to backup my current state?
What procedures should I take?
I'm sorry if this post will annoy people, I have tried looking around and trying to get the information to sink in. But its just not at the minute. If anyone can help me it would be truly appreciated!
Also I thought I found an app previously, that could text the position of the gps coordinates if another simcard was enterered. Sounds like a useful app if it ever goes missing although I know gps signals are unreliable indoors!
http://www.trackdroid.org/simchecker.html ok so that seems to be what I'd need for that, lol. And needs a rooted device. I'm slowly learning. i.e. the apk needs to go in the system/apps folder to gain permissions? lol
ok so I think i've got it figured out... however can someome enlighten me on what the updated "radio" roms are all about? Will I lose my 3g settings? If so where can I find these out? (t-mobile contract uk).
I am not fully savvy with rooting and flashing ROMs but here is what I do know that will hopefully help answer your questions. When you install cyanogen's recovery, there is an option to back up your current system and it is highly recommended to do that before anything else.
The procedures are pretty simple, but if you need a bit of extra help, Google "The Unlockr" and they have video tutorials of how to get the recovery and the ROM onto your Hero.
As far as I know, the radio that you can install will improve signal and whatnot, should not kill your 3G. Again though, I'm not too sure so maybe someone can elaborate on this more.
Hope I was some help!
Thanks very much soulonfirexx, I figured that the "radio" updates, weren't updates to an FM radio and your elaboration does make sense! Everything sounds straight forward enough, does anyone know if my 3g broadband settings will need to be reconfigured? If so what are the details for t-mobile uk contracts or is this totally carrier dependant?

once you get ur phone,
first thing u do is go to settings-wireless controls- mobile network settings- access point names.
note down the settings (APN) there .
then u make a nandroid backup. after that you can proceed with the rooting and flashing. If u ever want your phone back to its original state, just run the back up.
after flashing the modaco latest rom, some have had to input the APN manually. its no big deal really. that is why i told u to note the settings before doing something. so once u flash, if u see that u dont have 3g coverage, just enter the apn manually and everything will be fine.
Cheers/
Hey guys I have a quick question. I've done some searching and am not sure about this. I bought a evo 3d from a friend of mine. It was a sprint phone that is now on frawg. Last week the internet and everything worked fine. I activated it under my number this week and now the internet no longer works. It just says no connection when you try anything internet related if you are not on WiFi. I called frawg and they said it was the flash coming out. Is this something I can fix myself or do I really have to pay these guys $50 to fix the flash.
Come on guys somebody's gotta know about this.I've been googling but don't really understand what I need

Going to need more info before anyone can attempt to help. What exactly was flashed (ROM, radios, etc)? Where did the content that was flashed come from, along with a link to it. No one can help without being able to see what it is.
That being said, a flash doesn't "come out."
Your friend should be able to help you or have the info. Maybe paying the $50 to have frawg fix it would be best as it seems you aren't familiar with flashing.
It is running the stock rom 4.0.3. As far as I know the ntelos radio and prl were flashed by an employee at the ntelos store. He has tried to take it up there for me but she took a few days off this week. I know a little bit about flashing ROMs but I don't know if this is like a ROM or completely different.
So is this something I can do myself?
It is if you have the radios and prl to flash
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Can those be found on line? Apparently the person that flashed it does not work there anymore or they just don't want to fix it. It looks like I'm stuck fixing it my self

If it worked before you activated it on your account and you didn't change the phone (flash new rom or RUU) then it isn't the phone. Like I said before, a flash doesn't "come out" like they told you. Flashing the radios over again won't fix it. To me it sounds like it's service related, and only frawg can do something about it. They need to reprovision your phone from their end. The only other thing to check is the network setting on your phone and make sure that mobile data is enabled.
No I haven't tried to flash a Rom or anything on the phone. I also do not receive voicemail notifications. I have talked to a few people at their customer service and in the store and they all say the same thing. ill try to call after work about what you said. Mobile network was enabled but it does. Not connect.
Hello,
I'd like to point out that I've searched and have had no luck finding anyone with a similar issue, and/or a solution. I would post this in the specific ROM forum , but cant due to the 10 post limit. It may turn out to not be ROM specific, though I think it is.
Having said that, my problem is that my phone refuses to connect to a specfic AP. I am unlocked, s-off, rooted, etc. The problem only occurs on one specific AP I can connect to my AP at home, the local McDonalds AP, Starbucks, grocery stores, various other places... However, when I try to connect to my friends AP it won't get to obtaining IP. It flashes to "connecting..." then immediately switches to "saved, protected by PSK" I've checked the PSK to make sure I have the correct one and that I have the correct settings. The only thing I can identify as a problem is it only happens on a specific version of a specific ROM (In this case RC 4.7 of NUSenseSIX) If I use RC4.1 it will connect to any AP I point it at. The same goes for CM 11, PAC ROM, and ViperMax 2.0.0, no issues connecting to any AP. The issue only comes up with RC 4.7. I've tried dirty flashing over RC4.1, tried doing full wipe then install. Tried downloading the ROM with multiple devices at multiple locations, and even made sure the md5 matched the last few times I downloaded it. It's not as though this is a pressing issue or even that critical to me. This problem just has me totally stumped and now it's more of a quest for knowledge thing, if it gets fixed it's a bonus.
Thanks to any help I may get, and if not thanks for taking the time to read this.
Potiphar
P.S.
I'd also like to note that I've tried the whole cycling WiFi on/off, Airplane mode on/off, various WiFi settings (never sleep, battery optimization, etc...) forgetting the AP then re-entering the info, and that mobile data is turned off on my phone by me (small data plan, shared with multiple people).
Thanks again,
P
RUU back to stock.
Ask flyhalf in his thread....
Wonders_Never_Cease:
I wish I'd thought of that... Asking Flyhalf in his tread I mean... You know cause it would have saved everyone the unspeaka... wait.... what's that? In the second sentance of the OP? Oh... I had thought of it. That's right, there is some antiquarian rule about needing to post 10 things to some other section of the forum before being able to ask a question to the developer. My guess is that it's due to the banality of people who think demanding ETA's, features, fixes, and battery life expectancy is good practice. So instead of there only being a font of information here (not that it isn't) people that want to learn and help have to wade, sift, and trudge through all the chaff, flotsam, and detritus that is the trolling, flamebaiting, and sheer amount of garbage posts that amount to "ask somewhere else" or have the semantic equivalence of "uR 5tup!d" to which I can only defer to xkcd #1386. Or the clearly filler posts that are either the standard "post your homescreen!" or "which rom is best?" which I suppose are great time wasters, but in the end denote opinion and will ultimately have no "correct" answer.
I would understand if I had come across as having been hugely inconvenienced and was demanding flyhalf come to this forum and fix my problem immediatly as though I were some petulant infant, however I took the time to be specific and to ask if anyone had any insite into my issue. I even went so far as to expain that it wasn't crucial and that "now it's more of a quest for knowledge thing". I guess my issue here is I don't understanding why someone would waste thier time to post an answer that is cold, unkind, and totally unhelpful, when there is a clear, concise reason as to why that answer is nonsensical, but well.... your name says it all doesn't it. :good:
ktimque,
I suppose I could do that, and it would solve the issue, but so would flashing any of the other ROMS on this forum that were developed for my version of this phone. It would also create a bigger problem, I'd lose root and be back at square one. I'll freely concede that I may not fully understand the reasoning behind RUUing to stock, perhaps there is some strange bug preventing me from utilizing WiFi on one specific router whilst on one specific version of a ROM. Please, if there's some step in logic that i've missed as to why this would be helpful please, I'm all ears and would be open to learning something new.
Thanks to anyone who read the post and maybe thought of some interesting solutions, suppose I'll go back to lurking so that I don't waste the time of the truly great wonders... you know. the ones that never end...

My guess is that the modules for the kernel might not support the exact setup for WiFi that you are trying to use on this ROM. WPA? WPA? Long passphrase or short passphrase? Special characters? We may need that info to figure it out if @Flyhalf205 doesn't know.
@Potiphar.B
Are you using stock kernel or custom? What variant are you on?
The main differences from 4.1 and 4.7 is that 4.7 is deodexed.
First thanks to all the responders, I'll do my best to answer your questions.
@dottat
The Network is protected by WPA2-PSK TKIP&AES The Passphrase is a single word with one capital letter spelled normally. As an example the passphrase "Passphrase" is how it would look, though a different word. As for the modules thing. The kernel has never been changed by me, I'm not entirely sure if any of the ROMs ive flashed had different kernels. I know on my last phone (sgs2) there were a few roms with custom kernels, honestly havn't looked to see if these roms are the same or different.
@Flyhalf205
First, I must say that I am awed by your skills, and wish that I could learn to develop ROMS unfortunately my other pursuits in life always seem to get in the way, so it is with total honesty that I thank you and give all the appreciation I can muster that you both dev and help troubleshoot.
The kernel I'm using is (according to the about phone menu) is:
3.4.10-g8a54bda
[email protected] #1
SMP PREEMPT
As for variant I assume you mean which carrier I'm tied to at the moment, that would be verizon. As I stated above to dottat I've never flashed a custom kernel intentionally, but that's not to say that one didn't get flashed while trying out different ROMS. I will look today to see if any of the ones I've flashed claim to have different kernels. If theres anything else that I can answer please let me know. Thank you again for your help in this.

@melina123 Has your phone ever been able to connect to your friends WiFi? It could be possible that he has a mac filter on his wireless router and that is why it will not connect. Another thing you could check is his DHCP on his router maybe having trouble handing out IP addresses in general, which if this is the case try using a static IP when connecting. Also the type of encryption technically shouldn't matter to much as I can connect to TKIP/AES WPA2. If it's only his specific AP that is causing you grief, I would lean towards it being his network that is having the issue. If you already checked all this and I missed it when reading your thread, sorry for making you read all this...but at least I got to work on my typing skills .

Hello, first off I would like to say I'm terribly sorry for posting in the wrong section, but there isn't a section for the US Cellular Galaxy S3 and I don't want to spend an hour trying to find the correct section. Anyway, I've had my S3 for 1.5 years now and I finally decided to ditch Touchwiz and install Cyanogemod. So I got TWRP recovery, installed the correct cyanogenmod 11 version and gapps. I was extremely happy with the smoothness that I decided to text a friend. Text wouldn't go through. Nor could I make phone calls. Anyway I went into settings and it claimed my phone number was something along the lines of '000-000-9356' (Not entirely sure on last 4 digits) So I tried restoring to the backup that I had made, which did not work. Data however did work after tinkering with settings. Fast forward 2 weeks and I decide to try and fix the sms and phone problem. I couldn't find any help and stumbled upon a list of modems for SCH-R530U. Flashed one of those and when the phone booted back up, I had no data connection at all. I tried flashing the rest of them in a panic to try and fix what I broke but none of them changed the broken connection. I went into settings, about phone, status, and the phone says unknown for my network type, phone number, MIN, PRL version, MEID, IMEI, and ICCID. I know realize that I most likely have broken this phone beyond repair and I can't seem to find any fix or any stock firmware for my phone. If anyone could provide some help, it would be greatly appreciated instead of comments telling me to go to iOS, stating that I ****ed it up, or anything similar that I have recently gotten on other forums I've tried to get help from.

I have done a quick search for you and it seems to the same as the one from verizon. Thats what google told me and this link leads to so don't quote me 100% and it also states "This device does not have dedicated subforums, you may be able to find assistance in the Verizon subforums. "

have that problem on a Korean SKTELECOM phone, and I fixed it with a restore of my efs partition. if you dont have a backup of your previous efs partition, you must have to go to a samsung service center and fix it using some money.
I have the same phone and I flashed the same ROM. i had a horrible experience doing it. let me say that the ROM is awesome. but As we know it is a pain on the butt. I just can't do calls. I dial the number and it won't call. the camera app don't have a flash yet I think. and if you have a bad signal it gets worst. using your post I would like someone or maybe you if you know any other ROM to install on this phone. what is the best?
