what have I found?? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello good people, I was having a look through my gs3 i9300 with es file explorer, after a while I found a few weird files, not so sure if they would do anything or not, but anyway the files were named "battery_wireless_charging-**.qmg" the stars represent a different number as there was multiple files like that, when I saw these files I was astonished and thought could this actually happen?? I need some help on this I will leave some pictures below and if you're wondering the file path was "/system/media/ " it could be different for other phones though any help would be much appreciated thanks

De-bloated. Now No OTA Love...

Yeah I was stupid. Yeah I should have known better. I get it. I spent two years rooted and rom'ed on my OG Droid and got a false sense of total control.
I got my RAZR, rooted, installed Titanium Backup and removed some annoying apps. I had no idea about Freezing as an option.
Now it appears I'm screwed. Not sure which apps I removed (I wish TB kept a log) and don't have the APK's anyway and now the OTA update is refusing to run.
In the spirit of the holidays would anyone be willing to give me a hand getting past this dilemma and back into the sunlight where I can move forward with a new, better understanding of the landscape?
Thanks.
What build are you on? Is it branded? What part of the world are you in?
A little info goes a long way dude. I have a UK spec razr, 651.73.17.XT910.retail.en.EU on android 2.3.5
Sorry man. I'm in the US with a Verizon Droid RAZR.
It's running 6.11.744.XT912.Verizon.en.US
Im in the same boat as you. Definitely NOT inexperienced with android, but seem to be missing a few files (i did buy this from a buddy, so I blame him lol)
do me a favor, shoot me the NAME of the file that it first tries to find and fails ALSO include the first four characters of the checksums (two of them) that it spits out. I will compare that to the one i have and see if i can help you out.
for example:
sha1sum /system/app/GuidedTours.apk >>> first 4 characters should be "55f5" or "83ce"
sha1sum /system/app/BlurMusic.apk >>> first 4 characters should be "2f56" or "89b2"
sha1sum /system/app/BlurMusic.odex >>> first 4 characters should be "cfa6" or "79fc"
Those are a few examples to determine if you may have the same files as I do. I can't believe that all of the others I've tried seem to be different checksums (did Verizon REALLY have that many different builds?!)
Still looking for the damned log file to find out what it's missing. I know, for example, I have no Guided Tours apk as that seemed useless at the time.
the log file is only going to show you the first one that fails (which sounds like guided tours). Your log file is located in the /cache/recovery/last_log file. I've done this for 3 apps so far and MAN is this a headache. I hope this is the last file I need (GuidedTours.apk and GuidedTours.odex)
I also saw your post on Droidforums.net JUST now and you need to make sure you ask for the odex file as well as the apk file. or you'll just get an error for the odex file missing ;-)
I can't help as my battery just died and I refuse to charge it with anything other than the supplied motorola charger now.
Off topic I know... but usually I don't care about chargers. I charge everything I own that's usb powered with my old 1000mA HTC charger. Usually works, but it seems that the motorola charger is 5.1V / 5.2V instead of the 5.0V that most usb ports output. I've noticed a good 5/6 hours' difference from "full" to empty by using chargers other than the motorola one! Takes 2/3 cycles using only the motorola one before I get full life again.
There's a random tip from my experience lol
I am having same issues, ota says update fail
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda premium
I'm having the same issue.
I was able to locate my log file and take a look. So far it's failing at the geniewidget.apk. I deleted the dumb news widget so what the update shouldn't fail.
So now to try again.
I wish I had remembered to look at the log file before I erased everything the first time around.
Ouch. that sux. The #1 reason why I have been waiting. Once ICS comes out, I might start putting custom roms on.
mz...what are the first four characters for the two checksums that is shows in your log?

uninstalling is fine IF you do it through the Applications section of the OS. But if you start leveraging TiBu or others like that all bets are off. I would suggest you just "freeze" the app with TiBu or an equivalent application.

Hey, quick question: I safestrapped my razr, and then decided to get the ota update. So I uninstalled safestrap. didn't uninstall any system apps or anything. I've also run MotoMizer. The update failed, however. Any ideas?

How to get the original Nexus 7 boot animation to work on Vibrant

Hello everyone! Ive been trying to get the original nexus 7 boot animation (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29225381&postcount=1) to work on the vibrant, no matter what I do it still doesnt work.. Ive tried changing the resolution and fps around to see if maybe that is the issue but to no avail. Im thinking it may have something to do with the amount of pictures in the animation, its around 80+, but i dont know what i can do to fix it, if that is the problem. if anyone knows what i need to do to make it work please let me know.
ps: watch the youtube video in the post on the link above to see which animation I'm talking about, its not the aosp one that ended up shipping with the n7.
thanks for any help you can give!

Im not sure if you mean what i did to try to get it to work or what i did to install it so ill just tell both.
I opened the desc.txt and changed the res to 480 800 and upped the fps to 24 (I even tried it with the default desc.txt numbers and still no luck) then i saved the zip and used root explorer to put it in the system/media folder, and renamed it bootanimation.zip.
When i reboot the phone to see if it works it plays the animation i had before i installed this one, which i dont even understand how it does that since im positive i delete the old bootanimation.zip each time i tried to get it to work.
What ROM are you using? Some ICS ROMs do contain the BA in /system/media.
Wherever it is buried in the ROM, if you drop the N7 BA in /data/local it will supersede the "host" one. Meaning that you can put any BAs in /data/local whenever you want and leave your ROM based BA unadulterated. Why don't you try that and also don't forget to set permissions once you drop it in /data/local.

You're a genius kind sir, thanks for the help. One thing i've noticed is it seems to stutter more then my previous animation, do you know of a way to fix that by chance? Although the animation I had before was smaller and probably way less demanding then this one is, so that could be why its acting up. Im on the most recent Hellybean release

It is probably the reason you think it is. Sometimes when I have a larger BA, it will stutter or freeze/jump to the next frame. But that is the beauty of dropping it in /data/local, is I can swap it out with no worries of messing anything up. Sometimes I drop one in my wifes phone just to mess with her. She's pretty savvy so it doesn't take her long to figure it out and call me up.

You probably did. Bet you'll remember next time it comes around. You can drop all kinds of things in /data/local like Default.props, init scripts, bootanitmations,...and they will all run first before the stock kicks in. But you have to be VERY careful with anything other than BAs.

Wait a minute. Did you just delete your question? Did you get it figured out?
From what I remember of it, just off the top of my head, did you set the permissions. If you forget to do those, it will default to the stock BA. I've also been so frustrated to the point that I was putting the stock one in /data/local when I thought I was putting a new one in there. I had to unzip it to make sure I was doing what I wanted (turned out I wasn't :facepalm
Search Default.prop on google and see what turns up. You can enable/disable Voodoo if you want. Run a ro.secure=0 or =1 which allows you to boot into ADB with or without Root. You can put any persistent props in there to. I think that you can also put in some build.prop tweaks in there to run on boot instead of the "default" build.prop that is stock, but not sure about that one.
^^^^Obviously, if you start messing with these and are not sure what you are doing, make sure you have a Nandroid to restore.
Got it figured out, same problem you had with the copying old one.

There is a wallpaper I have been looking for,for a while now.I have seen pics of a Samsung Note on the internet with it before but I can't seem to find them now.I have found a pic that is similar but I am looking for the one that just says Samsung Galaxy Note.I don't know really if it is a boot screen image, an actual wallpaper or whatever but if anyone has it,I sure would appreciate it being uploaded here. Thanks
that exclamation point is an error symbol for a bad flash. just stick in a rom from another model and you will have that wallpaper.

[Q] Undelete lost files?

Hi everyone, I accidentally deleted some photos from my device in the focal camera (damn focal for not telling me that if I drag a picture to the sides it gets deleted) so my question is what is the best way (preferably android app) to recover them, I used an app in the play store but only found 3 of the 7 pictures I deleted, so does anyone have any advice to give me?
If they were deleted they're gone. Deleting is permanent.
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 4
It's possible to recover most of the deleted files if they haven't been overwritten with another data cluster.
Whoever said that it's permanent doesn't really know about how it works. I used a program to get back some pictures before called Disk Digger.
Download it from the Play Store, and let it check.
I have the same issue. Damn focal. did you manage to get back your files? and which app did you use at first to get back the first 3 of 7?
Photorec
Provided you can mount it as USB storage to a Windows PC, then try out PhotoRec_win from cgsecurity.org
I've used it before for completely inaccessible hard drives and got almost all my data back (mostly Outlook data files at the time).
Usually when you delete a file, the OS just deletes the pointer to the data. Provided you haven't written any other data over the cluster where your file was, then PhotoRec looks for the file signature and reads the file without the file allocation table.
If you accidently delete a file and want it back, my first advice would be not to install anything or take more photos, whatever, until you try to recover the file.

Maybe you should be less rude when talking about other members especially when you don't even know what your talking about. A nand chip is not a mechanical device is does not use platters or clusters. It uses blocks. Although you are correct in the fact that data can be recovered unless the block has been overwritten.
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2
Almost a 2 month old thread re-opened again. Anyway I hear there is an app called "undelete" but it requires root access If i am wrong? But meh, By default HTC has a default integration with Drop Box so it might be uploaded already.
But since you have focal camera I think you have a custom rom. So If the pic was taken after installing a custom rom without activating drop box again, then you can follow the steps mentioned by others
Best of luck if you didn't solve this issue yet, or If someone else did the same mistake as you.

A block is just another measurement of data, a cluster is made up of blocks. It's all relative. Question: How is it rude to correct someone when you did the same thing to me? Think about it.

It's a developer's forum and if every programmer argues about a small detail of a programming language this forum won't survive. I think the thread OP didn't reply so my guess is it's already resolved. So maybe a mod can close it?

A "cluster" of blocks is referred to as a page afaik. You can correct people without being condescending. What does telling people "they know nothing" achieve apart from showing everyone how bad your manners are?
Regardless this has gone too far off topic now.

How to extract photos from hard bricked XPERIA P ?

Hi..I had the very same problem that is mentioned in this thread, and it seems like that the phone is dead for good:
