How well does Beautiful Widgets work on the MyTouch4G? I'm trying to get away from the whole mySense crap, but I really love the weather/clock widgets from mySense. So... I'm debating about purchasing Beautiful Widgets from the Market, but not 100% sure if I want to spend the $2 on it or not. I've heard some say that it makes people's phones laggy, others have said the time doesn't update well, etc etc.
Thoughts?
been having issues with it after the latest update. My weather would not update correctly and im stuck 1 day late (instead of Sunday as today. IT shows yesterday weather).
zero issues. works perfectly.
Works flawlessly for me.

Works good for me, and they are alwAys updating it. Keeps getting better and better

Works great for me- I have the forecast effect set on, theres a small delay with that (which i expected), but everything else is perfect
Can anyone here that owns the MT4G and BW post some screenshots please? I'd love to see it in action before making the purchase.
Thanks!
The BW works awsome on my phone. I decided to buy it after I installed Launcher Pro and lost the clock widget. Only thing is that I sometimes see the location not updating, I just press update and within a minute it updates the right location im at. Is there a app for a screenshot that I can install w/o being rooted? Ill take one for you but I'm fairly new to the android scene and scared to do a root on this phone at the moment LOL!

ShootMe works best but your phone does have to be rooted. Thanks for offering though.
Killer app and works perfect... no issues!
works perfect for me on ADW... definitely worth 2 bucks IMO
I love it and if you use adw you can customize the size of the widget

Is this 2 dollar version different then the free .apk that is floating around out there??
I really like the widget also, and also prefer launcher pro. My version i have saved on my laptop i wasnt sure if it would update locations like the stock version does. I really like how the myt4g s version updates location so seamlessly. Its accurate to weather bug which the .apk file i have never was a match to weatherbug. It was always a couple degrees off.
Does the paid version allow you to choose the app that opens when you tap the widget?? I like to get detailed data from weatherbug.

I'm sure that there are several out there that have a fair amount of customization scattered across the 7 screens. I typically group similar apps in Folders. Anyway, from the 7-8 search phrases I tried there was nothing useful that came up in the TB forums.
Will I have to reconfigure my screens every time I flash a ROM or is there a way to restore the icon/app arrangement? I'm not worried about the middle/home screen just the other 6.
Back when I used a WinMo phone I relied on Sashimi to handle all the icon/screen arrangements; or did it manually using a file explorer. Obviously the Droid directory/config structure is quite different. Not to mention that efforts to locate an app analogous to MyMobilier have turned up dust.
i use titanium backup. you can back up all your apps and there data as well as stuff like homescreens accounts wifi spots etc. when you need to pick which things to backup get all user apps and all the green system data. then restore it all when you switch roms.

Widgets are live feeds so no is a limitation for now, best bet is what the other poster said

I don't think there's anything that will restore widgets.
Sent from my NookColor
it restores stock widgets and gives a little error screen for where other ones are. seriously how hard is it to re set like 2 or three widgets really?
Yeah mine came back with batch restore on titanium but like it was said. Other than stock needed to be manually added

Agreed on the restore aspect of TiBu. I'm not too bad of a flash junkie so I'll deal for now. Still trying to dig up info on why the Market doesn't show my 40-50 downloaded apps after a flash and google sync though. I did get my app icons/folders restored to the Sense screens w/ TiBu, but it trashed the BAMF3.0 default. I have screen captures from ShootMe so I can manually restore the look next time I flash. Thanks for the replies.

yeah i dunno about apps, but market.google.com will show you everything youve ever downloaded
True. Just wasn't crazy about clicking every single one to get them back after a flash. Hopefully the hurry-up-n-wait method suggested elsewhere will work; could take a couple of hours to "fully-sync" after a flash.

I use LauncherPro (free version in market) and there is an option to back up your screens (menu/preferences/backup home screen & settings). Does not do widgets, but I don't have a problem adding the few back that I do use.
After I flash a ROM I get all my apps back either via TiBackup or the market and once I switch to Launcher Pro as my home screen program I just do menu/preferences/restore backup and all my little icons are back where they should be.
Just make sure you restore the LPro backup AFTER you restore your apps or the backup won't be able to point to the right app.
Hey, this it's my first time posting and I had a question for you guys.
Does anyone here use Lookout Mobile Security?
I've seen a lot of screenshots of homescreens and I never see the Lookout icon on the notification bar.
Is it not needed or do you guys use
something different?
Thanks for your help!

That's a good question. I guess I just downloaded it assuming that I need it. Is the antivirus useless then?
Also, it backs up my pictures/contacts and has the "locate phone" feature. Are there any other apps that can do this?
Thanks

Not sure I need one either, but I have BitDefender Mobile on my phone.

I used this thing for quite a while.....its great in theory. Here are the things that made me un-install it.
1) Could not locate my phone through GPS while indoors
2) website continuously said that message failed to be delivered to my phone while trying to make my device scream.....although I got every one of them and phone would not scream.
3) most importantly while doing batch updates from the market I would have to sit there and watch not only each app being downloaded and installed....but then had to wait for lookout to scan each one...which ultimately made the update process SLLLOOOOWWW.
I initially installed this just for the phone locator service but Wheres My Droid does that and it works great. IDK but maybe the paid version of Lookout is better but WAAAYYYY to expensive for a app that is technically NOT NEEDED.
I use WaveSecure... it does all the same stuff except virus protection. Everytime I've tested it, the lock has worked. I haven't tested the remote wipe feature. Also, I have it set so that once a day, it will backup all my pictures and sms and whatever else it offers backup for. That way, if I have to wipe it, I'll have all my stuff.
I used it for a while on my captivate. I stopped using it because when ever I had it installed the market would stall periodically. It would sit and say it was downloading something. Clearing the market didn't help, but uninstalling lookout would.
I use Google+ to auto upload my pictures, and SMS backup+ to back up SMS and call logs to my gmail account.
I never tried the locate, scream or wipe features so I don't miss them. I did notice WP7 included them built in, and worked well. Apple has integrated some now too. I think its only a matter of time before Google does the same.

If you got that far, I suggest just going with QuikSense. Has a stock feel to it, just more memory and it's faster. Nice list of mods too. Working great for me. Past couple hours have been awesome.

Just say goodbye already! Haha. QuikSense has the stock feel, it's faster and doesn't have the useless crap. Do it up. Most of the apps that install from Market backup can be removed, like the T-Mobile apps if they auto copy over.
this should be in the general not development section.
anyways yeah flash quiksense. It's debloated stock, with enhancement in performance, battery life, and coolness.

Been running QSense for two days already and I like it but, still, some more apps that I'ld like to remove, though.
Using TB to frozed several apps like Peep, Twiter, Stocks, Tell HTC and so far so good. I'll removed them all after testing some more. I need to test frozen 'em one-by-one first to make sure before get rid of them for good

you can virtually remove all the obvious widgets and apps. Just don't touch any that may sound that it would be used by the system itself. Some apps for example wifi calling with FC like there's no tomorrow, but it would be fixed if you fixed permissions in recovery..
Actually i think you can remove anything that has a widget lol
I'm wondering myself what apps should I remove from the ROM. I would be grateful for any description of following apk files so that it would be easier for me to decide. I can't test it myself because I don't have Amaze 4G.

I hate to revive an old thread, but I just switched to stock and tried removing some bloat, and with the stock ROM being odexed, I've had some issues trying to remove apps. So now I'm stock again, fully unlocked, rooted, and full of bloatware.
Now the OP posted my SAME EXACT question, but to no surprise to THIS community, he didn't get much of a TRUE answer aside from the one I quoted. Now that we've all had this phone for a while, is there any updates from others who are running stock rooted on what is safe/unsafe to debloat?
Thanks everyone
PS... And can a mod please move this to Q&A or general... Doesn't belong in development.

Well I know that --IQ-tmobile-release-signed-zipaligned-v1.1.apk-- is Carrier IQ, so you probably would want to remove that. The thing is, I don't know how badly it will mess with your phone though. So remove it at your own risk.

Yeah, there are 2 files associated with carrieriq...one is an odex file I think...use root explorer to find it. Just type in ciq in the search box and it will show both files. Once you remove the apk, you will have to do a battery pull

Looking at that list I'd say I removed every one of those apps minus internet and magic smoke wallpapers so you should be good to remove them. The system manager app you listed is carrieriq and freezing it does nothing
Cool... I'm about to do a bu now though just in case
You think I should leave internet, or it shouldn't matter since my apps that use data and/or browsing work fine with it frozen?

I'd prolly leave it. Make sure you do 'clear dalvik cache' from within tb after you've removed what you want. Save carrieriq (system manager) till the end because its gonna go into fc city once you uninstall it. Then pull the battery and reboot
Oh, and welcome back to stock
Not entriely sure how I ended up to this part of HTC's page (I think I was looking for news on HTCSense.com) but I found this info guide about HTC Sense & it's features.
I knew about a lot of these features already but I didn't know about the gesture controls, pure reading mode, some HTC Mail app functionality & HTC Task's syncing fuction.
Just when I thought I had it all figured out. You learn something new everyday.

link task to contact
I did not realize that we could attach a task to a contact or a location.
The way it works is the next time the person calls you get a message to complete the task. Same with attaching a task to a location. The next time you are near the chosen location you get a task reminder to ex. "pick up water filter" Kinda cool.
I like it when I find out more and more about my phone. Learning everything right away makes it boring.
I forgot about all the flip features, haven't used them since my tp2. And the 2 finger mail feature life saver! Thank you

And yet they don't have font customization.
Ever since the last update my stock Evo takes about 10 seconds to open messages or contacts, smart dial doesn't hardly work because of the lag, thinking about factory resetting to see if that fixes it, doesn't do it all the time though.

True, it's like your phone gets a second wind. I've been using the features well since the find.
I've been good at making a habit of using the new features.
