Anyone's HTC letters peeling off? - AT&T HTC One (M8)

I'm starting to think I've got a bit of a lemon. I pulled my phone out of my leather case, and felt something sticky on the back. Turned it over and the T and C letters were both halfway out with the glue just barely keeping them from fully falling out.
I also made a previous thread about an excessive amount of pitting on the back of my phone in the metal. I've always kept my phone in a case... It seems like such a high quality phone but it is not holding up well for me.

Other folks have had the letters fall off, yes.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/letter-c-htc-one-fell-off-t2845085
I haven't seen anyone else complain about the finish pitting. Did you ever post a photo of it?

Thanks for the link.. not sure how I missed that, I even just checked for other threads. I never did post a picture. I feel so lazy not wanting to use a real camera and having to upload the pictures.. lol. But I will try.

No worries, if its too much of a hassle. I was just curious to see the pitted finish.

Sticky? Stuff on my screen

I'm not sure what it is, or if it's like a protectant layer that's wearing off.
But it's only in the lower half of the screen towards the middle.
It covers almost the whole bottom half, it looks like something splattered on it. But I can get it off with anything, I tried water, eyeglass cleaner, and Window cleaner.
It's really annoying I can feel the difference when I try to slide my finger across.
It's all fine when I clean it, it looks perfectly fine. But when I slide my thumb across is shows up.

Edit..sorry
Didn't mean to hit reply..lol
did you happen to be in the bathroom with a inappropriate picture on the screen?
if so thats where the sticky substance came from... lol
I figured there would be one person...
But no, it's like there's a protective coating onto of the screen and it's like wearing in on area.
It just won't clean off.

Lmao! Try using rubbing alcohol
Sent from my Triumph using XDA
Yeah, I was thinking about it. I'll have to try it later.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA
It should lift it as the alcohol evaporates... and I would only recommend alcohol so if any gets in the device it won't hurt it
Sent from my Triumph using XDA
It is actually the oil repellent(or something like that) coating, unfortunately, it is irreversible unless you get it painted again I guess, or replace the screen. your best bet is put on a screen protector.
This happened to BOTH of my previous android phones, Acer Liquid (happened really quickly because the screen is not very sensitive), Atrix (device too fast, so I browse the web on it too much so it has worn off too)
Moved on to HTC Amaze, I guess it is just the same, I better put a screen protector on first...
One question though, did you ever use screen protector? Both of my previous devices did, I wonder if they take a thin layer off when you peel them off....
Well I bought my phone used so I'm not sure.
The alcohol didn't work, so I'm pretty sure it's the coating...
Time to get a screen protector.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA
Well I can't really tell...
It almost acts like it's coming off, I can't really feel it anymore and I can only see it when I purposefully get my screen dirty. But it looks like something was smeared on it and half of it came off and it's in a hole bunch of little dots and globs.
Is this what yours looked like morris?
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA
not sure but you might try DRM'ing the phone through tmobile just not sure what their policy is on doing it to a phone you got from someone else . . would think you still could though
Well I bought it used, and I'm on a prepaid plan.

FEATURED ON GOODANDEVO.NET!!
Not sure if I'm posting this in the right place or not but I was dying to share!!
If anyone wants a tutorial or advice I can offer assistance but truth be told, I kinda just dove right in!! I am a former Sprint tech and I know how to disassemble phones. I WOULD NOT ATTEMPT UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING!! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED! same as anything else on this site, I will not be held responsible if you damage your device in any way.

So you.....sanded the back of your phone?
Congrats?
Quite a bit of sanding. I think it paid off!
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Not sure I like 4 different color tone on the back. Looks like a flask.
Eh, it's not for me, but all that matters is that you like it.
I'm waiting on my 3m carbon fiber vinyl, then the top and bottom will get covered in it! Then there will only be carbon, polished metal and 2 accents of red.
Something like this....MY OG!!

Yeah even though its 4 colors, exposing the true aluminum is pretty freakin awesome. Cudos! Find away to get the whole phone to look like that and OMG! It'd look like those many thousand dollar phones you see pop up from time to time

I want a soft plastic cover for the top so it matches the bottom. The two (more five) toned thing is a tad annoying.

I don't like it because, in my opinion, a person might as well just use a can of spray paint and paint it. One half assed job deserves another.
Again, just how I feel. And that doesn't matter as long as others like it.

Person asked why people didn't like it, so I answered. And like I said, it's just my opinion, don't get bent out of shape about it.
But yes, taking sandpaper to a $600 phone is my definition of half assed.
I applaud your effort, though I personally dislike the look of polished aluminum. I think it is cool what you have done. If I had the skills, I would probably strip the case, brush it and then clear it with matte clear to keep fingerprints down.
This looks cool man! I would do it too if I wasn't putting a dark wood grain skin on my phone.

I have to back up the OP on this. Sanding anything to a clean and even polish, as has been done here, takes a good amount of care and consideration. Silver rattle-can spray paint will always look like silver spray paint regardless of how careful you are. Whether you like the results or not, this is not a half assed job.

"LIMITED EDITION" Carbon Fiber Evo LTE!!

Just kidding guys! No limited edition, just ANOTHER hardware mod by me!! I THINK, (just my opinion before people start flaming me), I THINK this is how the phone should have come. Clean, simple, and dare i say it... elegant. lol

I used a Dremel and some small grinding bits to remove the red from the camera, a wire brush bit to remove the red from the kickstand and covered the top and bottom of the device with carbon fiber vinyl. I also applied a small strip on vinyl under the kickstand just for something different!!!

Yes, sorry. You can for sure remove it. The phone needs to be disassembled though. Remove top cover and bottom cover, then the 4 screws under the bottom cover and the 5 screws under the top cover. Then the 2 on the left side for the kickstand and the 3 others. Then you can push down on the bottom to seperate the screen and circuitry from the metal rear housing. After you have the metal rear housing seperated from everything else, turn it over to find the other 4 screws that mount the kickstand to the aluminum rear. After those are removed, the kickstand is free!

I think it's a long shot that people will be willing to send you there Evo's just for the mod.
I personally wouldn't mind donating a few bucks for a thorough "how-to" video or write up. If I remember correctly, the carbon fiber is really easy to install, all you need is a blow dryer but as far as the kick stand goes, i'm not familiar with sanding and whatnot
Edit: I guess i must eat my words. I didn't see the poll at first.
Regardless, please give us a DIY! I really want to try this

That is honestly a pretty cool mod for the phone. It just wouldn't be useful for me due to the fact that I use an otterbox case on my phone. I would never get to see the good looking carbon fiber.

You guys are starting to scare me about the DNA

Some software problems, drops with broken screens. Was planning on getting the DNA on my upgrade in a couple months. My TB will be antique, 2 years old in April and I have a zag screen cover Sence day one and only a silicone cover with the back cut out for extended battery. Have dropped it more times than I can remember. No dents, chips or broken screen. So the DNA is really that fragile? Some problems I expected hopefully less than TB, but broken screens that easy with gorilla glass is starting to scare me. Should I really be concerned about this or is the DNAs performance that good to overlook the easy screen breaks. Some advice please. Thanks.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
The screen doesn't break easily, but its glass. Its harder to break than the tb. But A lot of people run their DNA with no case, and if you drop it and the glass hits something solid there's a good chancecof it breaking.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
I don't know how many DNA's have been sold, but my guess is quite a few. You saw literally a few post about people who DROPPED their phone most likely without any kind of case, and that's enough you persuade you? This is one of, if not the best phone money can buy right now, you wont regret buying it.
Dropped 20+ times with screen protector and stepped on minor scratches only .. now if u face palm a phone from getting out the car etc most will take a ding or even crack. The DNA to me was togher than I thought it would screen included ..

Pretty much this.
This is a great phone, arguably the best device on the market right now. Get a protector, that way you can drop your device at leisure.
Just wait a few months until the new line of phones come out... This is the best phone out now..
Sent from my HTC DROID DNA.
I would guess the DNA is only marginally more vulnerable than the TB. The glass on the DNA covers all the front and a little of the sides. That means if you drop it on the side it could crack, unlike the TB.
If you drop both flat on the glass screen then probably both shatter equally.
They need to come out with those flexible screens soon!
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
My DNA has lived through:
1. Being dropped flat on the screen from a standing height
2. Sitting in the passenger seat with no cover/holder/case during a car crash that totaled my car
3. Being dropped in the parking lot from me forgetting it was in my lap when I got out of the car
The first 2 had literally no effect on it; the 3rd case a scratch on the side.. but the screen is still perfectly fine. So.. call me lucky, but I'm pretty impressed with the DNA's durability.
Exactly why I went with the DNA. This phone has display technology that other companies are scrambling to replicate with their respective display manufacturers. Soon there will be tons of apps and game that will require 1080p resolution to run properly.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
Thanks everyone for the feedback. After having a TB I don't believe newer HTC products could handle the bad rap and still leave HTC in the competition. I am impressed with all the comments on the 1080 screen and to run JB out of the box has to be worth it, as my Moto Zoom wifi has been running JB for a while, and I love it. I'm glad to know that I don't have to bubble wrap it now. I'm not crazy about full cover cases but will definitely find something to protect the edges of the glass. I'm sure there may be something out soon that will help. Everyone seems impressed with how it runs, looks and fits to hold. PS I played with the Samsung s3 in the Verizon store felt like a cheap plastic toy that would break if held to tight. Lol wasn't impressed left with my clunky heavy extended battery TB. Will be spoiled to not have a phone with an extended battery along with carrying the charger to. Lol. Thanks again for the good feedback. Will be hard to wait for my tax refund

Yes. Yes it is.
Only dropped it twice from knee height. But it was in an OB case due to the type of job I have... And the tendency of dropping my phone often.
Side note (somewhat off topic) - dropped my DX quite literally over 100 times with no screen protector or case, only came out with little knicks all around the metal and no screen dmg. Amazing

Mine came off accidently on purpose about a week after I bought the phone and life has been better because of it.
Mine fell off the 2nd day after I got it, which was release day. It fell off naturally but I would have ended up ripping it off anyway eventually so I didn't even try to fix it.
First time I went to charge my phone I saw that off and ripped it off myself. Those things always annoy me beyond all reason.
HTC needs to read this thread. Not only do we all hate the flap, theres also a quality control issue to be assessed. For this many people to have had it just fall off naturally is embarrassing to say the least for HTC. Whoever let this idea make it to the production model made the wrong decision. I hope they don't do this again in the future.
