I have been thinking about placing this post yet , did not want to to get myself in trouble with some questions that is not permitted to discuss here . will give it a shot and hope a wizz here or there can help
Many years years ago i got a HTC TP1 from sprint ,plan ok works for me .,a year or so later i heard about the EVO. the 4G and i do not know the EVO4g i bought ended up with same info ..serial ...# as the TP1...and as of then i was using the EVO4G...for years .
year went by got anther EVO3D and has same info as TP1 and they all work same number ..plan., one at a time as i wish .however ,several months ago i ended up with EVO LTE and just like the other EVO..s ended up with the same info as the TP1 ..but this one only make calls and txt ..i have worked on it for weeks and i can not get any sort of data connection .. at all. I have all the info to make the EVO 3D and the older 4G to work ..,i tried to write it to the LTE but cant make it activate ..data at all.
clear I must not know how to work this LTE ..but as you can tell i can make the 3D and EVO 4G work .so why this phone the LTE.can one give me info hint what iam i doing wrong to get this LTE to work as the 3D and 4G .
Are you on a regular Sprint plan, or are you with an mvno like Ting?
Is the phone running a stock ROM?

Hello and this is great to know one care and respond .. so before anything thank you .
I have sprint plan for many years ... long time back i think called zero or cero ... and i have stock rom. i even rooted the phone and thought that might help .. did not and few days ago i reinstalled a RUU zip .so the rom should be as new .
what you had in mind ... if i may ask
Just going to go out on a limb, and say that if Sprint thinks your evo 4g lte us actually the touch pro 2 your never going to get 4g. As far as 3g can't help you there.
Pretty sure I read those with serro plans could add 4g data to their plans for something like 10 bucks.

Hello there .. not sure why we talking about 3 G and 4G ..i could care less about 4G..all i want know is 1G...just data contact with sprint .. sprint can not tell they do nor have wilson running their system ..again they can not tell its a evo or samsung or Tatung for that matter .they know what i have from their information provided ...the serial number ...that is it. No one can .
anyhow i would love some feed back why i can not get the phone to communicate data wise .. as i mentioned i can have a regular EVO4g and EVO3D ..but the LTE somethings im not doing as should be .
If one of you has a name in mind i would love to send a message to that party
Or if I could get some check list from one on the LTE setup
sincerely

I'm sold on the Evo 3D but I don't know whether to move over from T-Mobile and go with it now (freedom from contracts), or to wait for the GSM version whenever it comes out?
Pricing aside (I know there are porting credits for new customers and other subsidies) I'd like to get some thoughts from people who use Sprint service with the device.
I'm not looking to start a flame war or anything, I just want to know what made you decide to go for it and whether a GSM version would have been more convincing?
If price has anything to do with you decision,I think Sprint is cheaper.

I would go with sprint! they have great customer service, unlimited data, pretty good coverage, and you dont know when the evo 3d will work on t-mobile either. i would say sprint would be a good choice!
its really all relative to where you need it to work at. If your in a good tmobile area its great. hspa+ is crazy fast.
I just switched back to sprint (3 days ago) because of cost and too many dead zones with tmobile. I work at Chase so we get a hefty discount. But tmobile worked ok for me as long as I was in the inner city.
Now, I WILL say this. GSM hs(d)pa throughput hammers sprints 3G. Its always on, data speeds are crazy fast. The phone handles any network changes on the fly. Sprints 3G has been pretty bad lately. I averaged with poor service on tmobile (keep in mind I am in a hs(d)pa market), at least 2 megs down and with good service upwards of 7-8mbps. With sprint 3G im lucky if i get 500kbps.
Now to match apples with apples, Sprints 4G can be fast as hell too. with a good signal, i can get 8-11mbps. The problem is the building penetration of it due to the high frequency of wimax SUCKS. The other inherent problem is battery drain. Having the wimax radio on murders the battery. Where as tmobile phones the "4G" radios do comsume more power, but not to the effect of wimax handsets. A plus side to sprint is the data transfer isnt throttled when you hit 2gigs. You get full speed data no matter how much data you have used. (in most cases)
The other thing I dislike is if my phone loses the 4G signal, the wimax radio goes into a "sleep" state after so long, and you have to manually pull down the notification shade to tell it to scan for 4G networks again. Happens on all of the HTC Sprint 4G devices. I had the epic before (samsung) and 4G switching happened on the fly, sort of like tmobiles phones do.
I would go for it tho, if Sprint works in your area then to hell with it why wait?
Just be aware that Sprint is getting the Galaxy s2 within the next month or two...so Id defintely say wait a little bit to see both and see which one you like more.
feel free to add more guys
In my test with tmobile they got better 3g whenit works I do have more drop calls in tmobile and almost none on sprint, but if I would have to get tmobile I would definitely go with the sensation really nice phone evo 3d brother and the. Only thing is the it has less ram and no 3d which I could live with

i agree, I would prefer the sensation over the 3d because its slimmer and doesnt have the extra screen layer, so it looks like the images jump right off the screen. not downing the the 3D at all, but i would have preferred the sensation. Im never going to use the 3D stuff
Has T-Mobile announced they're getting the 3D?
I assumed the Sensation was to be their version of it.

Ah, I meant T-Mobile USA. There is a European GSM EVO 3D model coming possibly in September or soon after. Part of the reason I am interested in waiting is that I do enjoy my current T-Mobile USA plan--no contract. I switch phones every few months and it's been a really long while since there's been a phone that's kept me interested long enough to want to sign a contract.
Here's a link to the Rogers version of the GSM model (850/1900/2100 3G bands) and the UK Amazon version of the GSM model (900/AWS 1700/2100 UMTS bands; Sept 12 due date).
I really appreciate all of the thoughts you guys (and gals?).
I'm gonna switch to sprint and I'm not sure what to buy. Right now I'm probably going to get the white evo 3d, I'm not sure though.

I whole heatedly disagree!!!! I have excellent service whether I am. I think I've dropped two or three calls in the last 7 years with sprint. Plus I'm getting 1-2.5mb/s on 3G. Moreover I think the Evo 3D is probably the best phone out right now (some will argue the GS2 but we have more features). Join us!
either the evo 3d, galaxy s ii, or the iphone 4s...imo the 3 best phones available on sprint right now
iphone 4s .... lol no I'm kidding. I would go with Samsung galaxy 2 or Evo 3d . However it really matters what you are looking for as the user. Are you wanting alot of apps on your phone? Great battery life? Small size? So I would say their really isn't a best phone out their. Just wants best for the user.
My Honest opinion would be to wait. The iPhone 4S, EVO 3D & Epic 4G Touch would be the best now.
BUT
I honestly would recommend waiting until Sprint gets LTE capable models, which will be before you know it.
You could buy the Sprint iPhone 4S (It will have a high re-sale value) now & resell it for an Sprint LTE phone when one becomes available.
Personally, I say get the EVO 3D (see if you have good 4G within 14 days) and rock with us. I love this phone.
Seeing as you have the X2 Im going to assume you have Verizon . With that being said you are gonna see two camps on this forum . The Samsung Galaxy S 4G Touch and the Evo 3D . Me personally I will be leaving Sprint in the near future due to coverage issues that Verizon has no problem in providing . Under Sprint's service we are provided roaming on Verizon towers . Heres the kicker that I found out , you dont roam on all verizon towers , just certain ones . In my travels in verizon territory I will have access to some of their towers while other towers will not provide voice or data but show full signal strength . I have had my phone tested twice and settings checked several times everything comes out fine . So either there is a gap in verizon's roaming agreement or Sprint hasnt updated their PRL list for me to contact these towers . Second , the speeds of 3G in my area are laughable to say the least , yes we have unlimited data but due to data speeds in my area I dont even use have a gig mainly due to the fact I am on wifi most of the time (This might not apply to your situation I would speak to a sprint user in your area and get their honest opinion of how they feel about data speeds for your area) . Also mentioned earlier Sprint is moving from Wimax to LTE in the near future . This is also something to consider before getting a new phone . Depending on your are and how they excute the roll out of LTE you might be the first city to get it you might be waiting a year or more . Look at all the factors before you make your decision .

This guy is a minority. Deciding on a Service Provider for your cell phone should mostly be considered on what kind of coverage and speed you get where you use your phone the most. I get great speeds and service at both my home and work. You might not get the same result and should look somewhere else. First question that anybody should be asking you is "why are you switching?".
On your questions about phones, it all depends on how you use your phone. Do you want something that always works, easy to use, don't really care about the development of a phone and ways of changing it? Get the iPhone4S. If you want to play with your phone, root and flash ROMS, get the EVO3D. These are my opinions and should be taken as such.

Prl 11115 (Sprint owned PRL) will connect to all VZW towers & 3G roam, however too much roaming will get you punted off of Sprint, ETF free.
So there is an possible smoother exit.
You can also gage how fast VZW will be beforehand.
Okay, starting this morning my 4g will connect (says ip address and connected to sprint) yet will not pull down any data. That includes no webpages or if I try speedtest it hangs at testing ping. Zero data. I'm currently using warm rom with stock kernel for the past few weeks. Definitely not a 4g service issue as someone with an Evo 4g was able to pull data with no problem standing next to me today. Tried wiping all and flashing the latest warm rom to no avail. Any ideas? Anything else I should try?
Thank you for any help you can offer!
I have no data also. Never rooted and with the original stock firmware (so if I want to root) and the most recent PRL. I am in Boston if that matters. 3g works just fine.

Thank you that makes me feel a little better as I am in the Boston area as well. Really strange though that someone with an original evo was able to down 4g data today. I might give sprint a call to check on any outages.
Talking to sprint now and they say NO network outages in Boston area. Strange.
I had this issue in the morning a day or two ago but it went away after an hour or so. Problem returned this morning and have had to use 3G since then because Wimax isn't working.
I'm on the latest Warm nightly and too am in Boston. Sounds like it's specific to Boston.

Let us know what they tell you at the store. Hard to believe that this many of us are experiencing the exact same issue and its not on sprints end. Lol I forget how slow 3g can be as most of my travels are normally covered with 4g. Hope its back online soon. Anyone else in the Boston area that wants to chime in?

If it's not back by the end of the weekend, I'm writing a letter.
4g Still broken in Boston area. Many reports....when a phone is mentioned it is the Evo 3d. Was there an over the air update yesterday?
An OTA should not affect it since I haven't upgraded since the first one. Also, people that I know who have the Evo 4G can use data just fine.
Dose everyone with the issue have the evo 3d or is it whit all phone, because sure seems like the ones with the issue are evo 3d users
as well as everyone should! this is BS!! i am more mad that i called CS 3x and they kept telling me there's no outtages in my area! how could they not know about something as major as this????? I had to go outta my way to a local store for them to tell me this crap??? my cousin called to complain and they hung up on him! called back to speak to a manager and they just kept him on hold! kinda missing T-Mo right now!!!!

Wow, glad I found this thread! I got the same problem on Nexus S 4G located near Norwood. In my case, I just got a replacement phone yesterday. 4G was fine yesterday but today, nothing. I was starting to think I got a defective phone. The worst part is that with 4G enabled, I got a signal so it doesn't even try to fall back to 3G. I just checked Settings > About phone > Status > Mobile network state says Disconnected when 4G is turned on.
I can only get 4G service while at work so if they've disabled it, I'm gonna be mad!

can't speak for everyone else but i don't mind at all. Just don't like the fact that Sprint has no idea whats going on and sending people to local stores to me is BS! they should be more informed of something this major going on and not making everyone think there phones are junk! all they have to do is inform their customers of the testing and to put their phone on 3G! i had no idea of that and had no data till i went to the local store today and they told me to put it on 3G.
Anyone have fully flashed thunderbolt to metropcs?
Please share the method,tnx...

I have my Tbolt flashed to metro. Everything works except 3g- only 1x. I paid someone to do it for me. Person whom flashed it had to downgrade from gingerbread to froyo. So my advice, not worth it if you need 3g speed and more stable OS. Its benefits is that the camera and video are 3 times better than my old Evo. But I sure do miss 3g. I know that you can't flash the Tbolt the same way as the Evo. You have to use CDMA workshop to flash. The only thing I learned, by messing with it, is changing the PRL. On the Evo it is simple, on the Tbolt- need workshop.
Hello montecristo glad to hear from you. What PRL do you have on your TB?
Sent from my PC36100
I am currently using PRL 3026. I have tried PRL 3019-3026...no 3g.
I have been noticing lately that it has been more stable- but at 1X though. Able to somewhat stream radio a little better. My old Evo would never lag and stream fast.
No offense, but why gimp a nice phone like the Thunderbolt on Metro? If you want a decent Metro phone, get the Metro version of the LG Revolution (Navigator I think it's called).

I originally had the HTC Evo on metro...it was absolutely the best phone I ever had on metro...everything worked great! I was hoping for the same on the Thunderbolt...besides Brandogg, metro brand phones really SUCK. Everyone I know on metro abandoned their Metro brand smartphones and jumped onto the Evo. On metro brand smartphones, metro requires you get the $50 plan...and with the Evo, you can get the $40 plan...
Unfortunately, mrctony, I haven't been able to get 3G...its the only thing lacking. I only know of two people that know how, here in Northern CA, and they're not talking on how to...but both recommend not getting the Thunderbolt for metro because of the 3G thing. One recommended the Photon and the other Droid.
Have you seen the video on how the thunderbolt is actually fully flashed to cricket?? It gave instructions on how to step by step....I had the link- but for some reason it is now down. That's where I learned how to change the PRL.
So far I know that the Thunderbolt is fully flashed successfully to Cricket and PagePlus...metro is missing 3G.
Yes montecristo I've been reading the cricket "guide" for the TB and I think same method apply for the EVO 4G (on metro),but I agree if not 3G then its not worth it...so sad

In my area, (Batavia, ny) I get maybe 1 to 2 bars. This has been the case since my OG EVO. But I do noticing I'm roaming a lot more now. Plus my 3g connection is terrible. I've heard this phone does have some signal issues. Would flashing new a new Rom flash radios as well? I was worried they were just borkes from restoring a nand backup or something. I am considering just bring this back to best buy for the S3. I have maybe a 2 weeks left to decide. But I did buy an otterbox defender case, so I have invested in this phone already. I wonder if the problem is hardware related or will new radios (when they come out) will fix the problem? Any recommendations or advice?

New Network and different PRL !
I have the new Evo 4g LTE and I took one back because of this issue you are having. It has happened on the new one though not quite as bad. Not sure if they improved the signal or if it was the phone. I live in Houston,Tx. which is one of the cities where LTE is launching first so I know they are working on the towers here. By the way they are only giving you 2 weeks to return phones now at Best Buy and Sprint. The biggest thing I have noticed is that the Evo 4g LTE has a different PRL # than my other two Android Sprint phones. I believe this is because it is going to run on the new LTE network and I also think it has something to do with signal being different. The bottom line if I were you I would take the Evo back that you have now and exchange it for a new Evo and if you are in a City that is getting LTE in the first round Just wait like two more weeks and your signal issues will go away ! You could always root until then and run a different PRL also!
