[Q] Telephony.db Location - AT&T HTC One (M8)

Hello,
Brought over an AT&T M8 to TMobile, but ran into some issues with sending multimedia images via text. Individual on this forum wrote a custom "telephony.db" file to address he issue, with instructions to backup and then restore with the new file. Problem is, I can's see to find the file on my phone. The path is supposedly: data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases.
Here's the original forum post - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2736292
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

sms & messaging appl. don't start anymore

hi all,
I've a problem with my touch pro (original italian rom): the messaging application don't start anymore.
I've tried to start from the 2 icons on TF3D (sms and email) ... nothing (it only restarts the TF3D.
The same if I start the application from "programs".
I think the application files are corrupted.
I'm on holiday and I don't want to hard reset the device for the moment.
Someone can help me giving me support, ideas or the messaging application file from an original italian rom (1.90.408.1 ITA)?
Overwiting file it's a my opinion ... someone can help me to understand ?
Further info:
- I don't have installed anything recently;
- I've tried to install resco contact ... nothing;
- I can't receive messages/email.
Please help me!!
Thanks in advance
anyone can help me?
Delete all messages (through File Explorer), soft reset and try again. I assume that you probably have too many saved messages.
it sounds interesting ...
2 questions for you:
- emails only or both emails and sms?
- where I can find this files to delete ?
many thanks
Probably should have been posted in the Raphael Software forum.
That said, it's probably a corrupt database, as a previous poster implies.
However, it could also be a corrupted tmail.exe. This can be solved by deleting the tmail.exe file (using TotalCommander) in Windows and doing a soft reset, which will restore the original file from ROM. I had to do that a while back.

I think it's better that you delete them all. Files are usually in Windows/Messaging. Of course, you can do what hefman suggested.
I've tried deleting messages .. nothing happens (so hefman was right ... also the db is corrupted).
I've tried to delete tmail.exe as hefman said... but with Resco file explorer isn't possible (rom file). I've tried with total commander ... but I can't see my device.
I've to admit it: I'm unlucky at 40% and unable at 60%
Other sw to delete a rom file ?
Thanks

Anyone here on stock rooted on a SGSII?

I have a US AT&T GSII and unfortunately they don't allow the access to the Network Operator Selection menu, so I'm told if I replace a file and restore it'll get the menu access back for me.
Can anyone who is on the STOCK Galaxy S II International version send me a copy of the file apns-conf.xml from the /system/etc directory via PM or post on here?
I think there's a way to extract it from the Stock ROM, but I can't find that on here, and don't know how to extract just that file.
Thanks

Use a file manager like Root Explorer to navigate to it.

I have the ATT version, that's why I want the file from someone who has a SGSII International to send the file, because it's not on my version, hence why I asked here, hehe. Did you read my post entirely? It explains it.
Thanks!

I am on stock KI8 and found a copy of the apns-conf.xml file in /etc (not /system/etc). For what it's worth, here is the file.
Hope it works for you - I'd love to know.

Thanks. How would I implement this into my stock ROM so I don't have to start over? And will this unlock the search screen?

You said in your first post that you just needed to copy this file in. To do this you will need a file manager that will let you have write access to the root directory. Root Explorer will do this, but your phone will need to be rooted if it is not already. There are plenty of guides in this forum on how to do this, but my preference is just to flash the appropriate Chainfire cfroot kernel.
Please also note that once you root your phone your warranty will be void, although there are also guides on the forum about how you can go about bringing it back to stock. Many of the carrier specific stock ROMs are also posted in the forum.
Before you do any of this though, you should note your current ROM details as listed in Settings/About Phone, and after you have rooted, but before doing anything else, you should perform a CWM backup.
Once you have done the copy, I would think you would need to re-boot your phone for anything to take effect, but I can't give you any guarantee that it will work (or not).

I was already rooted and unlocked. Simply doing these two things in themselves don't unlock ATT's locked manual network selection screen. I even tried deleting the CSC directory and files per GTG, and I replaced the APNs Config File, and rebooted, the manual network selection menu is still locked. :-( I'm beginning to wonder if this is hopeless. :-(

[Q] Wifi Problem with Korean Tab (SHW-M380W) after 7510 conversion

Hi Everyone!
I'm posting this here since I don't have posting privileges in the development area.
I have converted my Korean Galaxy Tab 10.1 as explained in the development section in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360588&page=5
to a 7510.
Everything worked fine.
Just one tiny problem I am experiencing:
My Wifi reception has greatly decreased after the conversion.
I noticed this imediately after the conversion but hoped it would "go away" once I had rooted the Tab an installed a modded ROM.
Unfortunately this was not the case.
Does anyone of you other "converters" have any experience with this problem or am I the only one?
best regards an looking forward to your answers
Krügge
Happy new year to everyone!
Well, since noone seems to have my problem I looked into the files myself.
The wifi drivers and their configuration files are located in /etc/wifi of the system image.
I flashed the korean shw-m380w original version and did a backup using CWM. I then did the same with the original gt-p7510 version.
When I compared the filesizes I noticed differences and the content of the configuration files were different as well.
So I just replaced the contents of the european wifi folder with the contents of the korean one. I had to use a linux shell, since the file permissions need to be saved.
I copied the newly created system tar file into the CWM backup directory of the european version, adapted the the md5 hash in the same directory for the new system tar file and went into CWM and did a restore.
Worked like charm. I'm back to my old, much better, wifi reception performance.
I don't know if this is the fastest an easiest method but it worked....
best regards

i have same problem with you. can you please explain to me step by step how to fix the wifi like you did?
Hi Everyone!
I have done some more experimenting.
Since I wanted to install different Android Versions and different Kernels and the fact that the Kernel Drivers are always compiled to work with only one particualer Kernel, I needed to find a way to improve Wifi reception without having the korean drivers.
I acomplished this by just pasting the config file nvram_net.txt from the korean Android into the directory /system/etc/wifi.
I renamed the original file to nvram_net.txt.orig and pasted, Afterwards I adjusted the permissions to be the same as the ones of the original file and rebooted.
This has worked with every Android Version I installed so far.
I have attached a Screenshot of the directory and the nvram_net.txt file of the korean tab.
I hope I can help somone with this.
To me it seems that the korean tab has just a slightly different Wifi Hardware than the P7510.
best regards

Text Message Meta Data Question

I received a Text message sent from an E-Mail and I was wondering if it was possible to find the individual file on the filesystem holding the metadata for the E-Mail.
If so, would I have to root the phone? And where would that file be located?
I'm a techie, so no need to warn me that I could hurt my phone or files - I'm only looking to READ, not WRITE, and I'd be making a copy of that file beforehand anyways and porting it to a PC in order to check it with whatever program is necessary to decrypt (Probably only need a hex editor, but if someone knows better, feel free to pass that information along, too )
Anyways, is it possible?
Thank you for your time.

You can get access to system files by using a file manager. To edit files, you need to root your phone.
If it is *.txt attachment that was attached in that mail, go to downloads and look for it.
Now, serious. Why so serious?
If you are looking to decompile that mail app, use APKTOOL to decompile. Search on xda for the links. :good:
The apk file can be found on the device in: /system/app/ here
If the apk file is odexed, then you have to first deodex it to make it as one apk file Search on xda for the tutorials. :good:
If you are asking to decrypt mails, ask NSA   :silly:
I am a newbie here. So I don't know where that file is located exactly.
Press thanks if I have helped you.

Just to reiterate, the person sent me a TEXT. I open my text app and I read their text. I want to find the file containing that exact text. (Extra info, info you don't really need to know and MAY have confused you: The text was sent via an E-Mail... Meaning they logged into their E-Mail, typed my phone number, and my phone received a TEXT from that E-Mail address straight to my SMS inbox). I'm not sure if I was clear enough on that. But I am trying to open an SMS sent straight to my phone AS IF from another phone.
What did you mean why so serious? I'm just trying to seem professional in my question. Hate to confuse people. Also: Decrypying a file should a) not be necessary, but MAY be (still highly doubt it), and B) Does not require NSA lol. I can do it myself, and if not, I've got a buddy who could do it for sure. But ALL I'M TRYING TO GET is the "metadata" from the SMS that'll HOPEFULLY give me the metadata for the E-Mail.
Thanks for your time.
Solution
I think I have found a solution to your problem.
This is the absolute path to SMS and MMS DB on most android devices:
/data/data/com.android.providers/telephony/databases/mmssms.db
It is the file where these messages are stored.
I don't own this device but still I have posted the screen shots
I think you get what I am trying to say.
