Hello
every time I change my customs sounds (ringtone, notification) gives the defaults, have you any idea what is the problem ? they are in media \ audio \ ringtones and media \ audio \ notifications on the sdcard
Hey fourire I had the same thing happen to me about a month ago.
I had mine on the sdcard in appropriately named folders, and right after I updated to the newer Sense 6 Toolbox my phone rang with that Dahlia tone. Checked and all of my tones had defaulted, the toolbox icon and another had jumped out of their folders.
I'm unlocked-rooted-s-offed and thought I messed something up when I did the firewater trick. Funny thing was my experience with that was the same as the documented directions.
It only happened that once with me, my warranty was gone with the s-off. On a newer version of the same ROM, newer version of the toolbox and the tones are behaving.
Did you change anything before it happened? Still under warranty?

Hi!
My phone doesn't ring anymore, it won't even vibrate!
It all started when I set PocketMusic as the default player for WMA files. This made the phone stop ringing, and when I checked in settings the ringtone was set to WindowsDefault instead of my usual OldPhone. I tried resetting the ringtone to OldPhone, but when I clicked ok it was automatically reset to WindowsDefault again. This happened for all of the WMA ringtones. They also did not play when you tested them in settings. I removed the association from PocketMusic, which made the ringtones play from the settings screen. But they still don't work when there´s an incoming call. The thing is just quiet.
If anyone has any kind of idea, please help me. The phone is on 4.00.11, I've tried soft resetting but that didn't help. There's probably a registry setting that's messed up, but which one?
Thanx!

Possibly Similar
This sounds slightly similar to a problem I had with Pocket PC 2002 - look for a post named "Cursed by BellDitty". It was a registry key that wasn't written correctly.
Well did ya think to just hard reboot the phone? That will put everything back to original specs.
Just back up any data you need and turn the thing off and back on.

Yeah, I read that thread and fooled around a bit with the reg keys in ringtone0. Didn't help though. The strange thing is that ringpreview is working just fine, but ring is not. Could you post a copy of the keys and values in ring, ringpreview and ringtone0 so I can see what a healthy device should look like?
Thanx!

I'd prefer to find out what's causing the problem and fix it. If I haven't solved it before the weekend I'll probably do a hard reboot. Don't like all of my installed progs dissappearing though, so I'll probably end up cooking myself a new rom as well to fit my most used applications into rom.
Cheers

RegDump
Here is a reg. dump of my XDA when it ran 2002, I checked the registry of 2003 and it looks the same:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0]
"Sound"="DefaultRing .wav"
"Script"="apw3r"
"SavedSound"="DefaultRing .wav"
"Category"="Ring"
Hope that helps.
Thanks everyone for your support.
I finally decided to go for the hard-reset, nothing else seemed to help.

i had this same porblem after installing pocketmusic 1.3 bundeld.
It played the mp3 when clicked on them.
O2 plus played them tru pocketmusic, still it didn't work.
When tested at settigns/phone/ play it didn't work.
I removed the assoisition in pocket music(for mp3.wmv) now it works.

Yes, Betaplayer did the same, as well as an older version of Conduits' Music player.
You must just make sure that these files do not have the default association for wma or wav, they do not play nicely with the Phone Edition somehow.
(But Betaplayer is still the bestest video player for the Pocket PC!!)
THANKYOU THANKYOU!
Have been tearing my hair out over this one and dredding a hard reset.
I wish I could put this question in a more thought provocative way... but the problems very simple and random:
I've been running the latest evil fascination rom on inmuts -50uv kernel for over a week now with spectacular results in every aspect of the rom. (honestly one of the most satisfying rom packages imo) *with outstanding battery life I might add*
The weird: when I first set up the phone, I assigned on of the standard android notification sounds for my text messages. A day or two ago, it changed on its own and when I went back to the settings, the only two options I got were "silent and facebook pop"... (*note: I don't even have Facebook app installed and have not a long time ago.. I just use the browser)
This same problem occurred in my default Clock app as well and so now the only sound option I am able to assign for any of my alarms is "silent' ...irony kills me
Any ideas as to what might be going on? I use custom ringtones but I have never made a custom notification folder on my sdcard so whatever must be clashing/happening might be internal.
Taking a blind guess, but I'm guessing the facebook app created the notification folder on your sdcard where the "facebook pop" resides. And for a different reason you probably have a ".nomedia" file in your system/media folder. Delete that file to regain your original sounds.
Resolved!
Thank you so much, that did do the trick. Both the .nomedia file as well as the facebook sound file that was creeping around in the system/media directory.
It would be nice to know how it decided to revert the settings on its own...
Glad it worked. I had the same issue when upgrading to the latest evil fascination rom using the latest patch.
Don't know why it happened but was an easy fix
Hello,
I have a problem with my phone. I cant set any ringtone to it. Whether its MP3, or from system ringtones, it always plays "its" own ringtone.
I got phone only yesterday and upgraded it from 2.3 to 4.0 (official upgrade) Everything wen fine.
I dont know what do with it, i looked through apps, if something doesnt have to do with it, but i think not.
Do you see any solution? Is there app that sets ringtones?
Thank you very much for help
RE:
there are a lot of ways by which your problem can be resolved,
but unfortunately, almost all of them involve rooting (which voids warranty).
I'd recommend talking to the customer care (as you only purchased the phone yesterday)
or try to find if your phone allows you to revert back to your original android version.
[also try this: go to the music player, hold on a song till the options appear, then select "set as ringtone". that might work]
Cheers
[Thumbs up if it works for you]
Hello and thank you for your reply!
Yesterday i was too eager to wait patiently for responses of people here on forum, so i tried to resolve the problem.
I tried as you said set ringtone through music player - it worked for few minutes, but after that it changed back to default ringtone.
But after 4 factory data resets i got to know where the problem was :laugh:
Everything was OK until i loaded backup from huawei app -> then the ringtone started making problems.
So after 4th reset i didnt load backup and everything is working fine. Might help other people with this sort of problem.
Anyway, i dont know why it was happening, because after i noticed its happening after i load backup, i didnt load system settings -> just contacts and SMS' and still there was problem. Weird, but fortunately everything is fine now.

Do try upgrading to JB roms here
As the title states. Those using the newest roms do your phones ring as should? Been using and always going back to Baked 6 because every newer rom I try the phone frequently does not ring. To name a few, I tried Hellybean, Slim, Carbon, Baked 8. I have tried every solution that I can find in these forums. I depend on my phone for work so it has to be reliable. Does it not bother others that the phone does not ring as should or does yours work?
I'm on Helly Bean and it rings every time... although I don't get phone calls very often at all, so maybe if I did it would miss a few. This is a common issue unfortunately and I've yet to hear of an easy solution.
Not Ringing Either
My phone doesn't ring either. Hasn't through out the whole time I've been using HellyBean. I've been searching the forums and thus far haven't found a fix. If anybody has the fix thread can you post it here, thank you. Looks like I'll have to look into another rom as suggested in the start post.
it;s probably a ROM that doesn;t get any attention but i have been using JellyBro and the ringing and notifications work fine.

Ugh, not again. Well... for what its worth, I found a way to stop losing em.
First, a little background... I discovered that the "media store" app will index ur phone's media after every reboot (as expected), but hangs before committing its findings from the temporary "wal" file to the "internal.db" database (where all ur media locations are stored). Then, when attempting to access the database while configuring ur ringtones/sounds, the media store app craps out and drops it findings altogether. Basically, the wal file disappears and the database file size decreases. So, all we have to do is force the wall file to commit before the media store drops it. Afterwards, the media store app doesn't appear to have a problem maintaining the database... even after rebooting. Definitely a bug with the app; see for urself by observing internal.db in /data/data/com.android.providers.media/databases.
Now, the workaround (ull hafta reassign all ur ringtones/sounds after this... not like they worked anyway)...
1 - Delete the contents of the folder /data/data/com.android.providers.media/databases.
2 - Reboot and wait ~5 min after startup to let the media store reindex all ur media. DO NOT configure any app's ringtones/sounds just yet.
3 - In terminal, enter the following commands. You should see "x | y | z" after the checkpoint command... where x is 0 (database is ok), y is the number of modified pages, and z is the number of pages successfully committed to the database. y and z should be equal and much greater than 0. If the result is not as described, the database is probably screwed up and u were too late. Go back to step 1 and repeat.
$ su
# cd /data/data/com.android.providers.media/databases
# sqlite3 internal.db
> pragma wal_checkpoint(FULL);
> .exit
# exit
$ exit
4 - Trust the workaround and start configuring ur ringtones/sounds now... or reboot again and ensure the media store database stays fixed. I recommend the latter.
5 - 3 sir!

Can't find "/data/data/com.android.providers.media/databases"
Edit: Found
Hello,
I also suffered this issue, i think the rom you flashed was to blame.
This issue has been long discussed in our Chinese fascinate forum.
I strongly recommend you flash the lastest cm10.

Tried the workaround. Ringtones lasted longer, but stopped after a couple hours. Tried on latest Helly. Curious which roms it's working for others on.

well i'm currently on Slim 04/09 build -
previous Slim 3/17;; ParanoidAndroid March Builds;; Baked Bean, 6/7/8;;; HellyBean;;; AOKP PUB;;;
that gets me back all the way to the beginning of the year
I have had working ringtones on ALL of these as my daily use phone...
on my test phone I cant test ringtones cause [ its not activated] but notification tones for things like hangouts, twitter, gmail, etc have ALL worked without fail on every build I've loaded,,, [ which is virtually ""ALL"" the others at one point or another]
but kind of like that work around is saying I always wait after a clean/data wipe about 10 minutes [before setting ringtones] while figuring out my other settings, adding apps and what not, usually give at least 1 more reboot and wait again another 10 minutes then set ringtones,,, but I also have my 2 personal use ones [ringtone = pyxis ,,&,, Notification = cyanping] stored in a file on my sd card [a couple ROMs have not had these and I don't really care to use anything else right now] and always making sure to choose media player/server as the default app if I've wiped media storage settings data,,, [that way I can add them back into the appropriate folders if needed]
I did have this issue way back about August/September of last year running on AOKP builds, but I remember odin to stock, then THS 1/2 build then flashing to an older glitched build before the original partition changes or the later partition changes, and probably flashing new aokp,,, wiping data, etc and I got mine fixed...butt... it could have gone back to me waiting out those initial scanning times plus reboots ~ before ~ setting ringtones/data,,,
then again,,, some peoples fascinates have just given them major issues with this and they have rarely seemed to fix the problem,,, so it could be hardware tolerances and those are just really off on some setting somewhere...???
Good Luck
I really dont feel it is a ROM issue...maybe an Android issue, like the voicemail notification prompt problems [because we dont have LTE and that is coded into jb software now, so the fascinate freaks out when it cant find lte settings...]
.
---------- Post added at 05:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:38 PM ----------
you could try ,,, now that it borked on you,,, clearing out the android.providers.media / data , boot into recovery, wipe dalvik and cache partition, and reboot then wait out the time, reboot and again wait out time,,, then set ringtones,,, and try...don't know what else to say...
Thanks for the suggestions. Will try them.
For the past month or so texts and g-mail are not the sound I've used for a long time. It's now a simple, soft, two-note da-dung. Even though I've re-checked several times and re-applied the mp3s that we want, the apps refuse to play the chosen notification anymore. This is not just my rooted, s-off M-8. Our second M-8 that is still under warranty totally stock ATT 5.02 also has it's alarm sometime go off with this sound.
There is only one change to both phones preceding this issue that is a common denominator. We both switched to the Android clock for our alarms when HTC ruined their alarm clock a while back. The android alarm lets us choose if we want a start up quiet alarm and we don't. Neither of us has ever used this new sound for anything.
So this issue with the soft pleasant sound did not start until a couple weeks after we put the new alarms on our phones. I've actually considered totally wiping my my phone and sd card and starting over from scratch. I remember seeing that an update for HTC notifications & ______ something else had recently installed and that predates this problem.
Anybody else had this happen?
