I'm currently using a USCellular (CDMA) Touch Pro2, on a GSM network (Viaero wireless, in Nebraska). In WinMo, everything works fine, and when I boot into Android everything that should work does... except... Anytime it sleeps, it drops it's connection to the GSM network and doesn't connect till I wake it. That means any calls, texts, emails, etc that come while it's asleep don't show till I manually wake it (or in the case of calls, they go to voicemail). I've tried searching, to no avail, so I was wondering if any of you smarties can help. My startup.txt is as follows
set ramsize 0x10000000
set ramaddr 0x10000000
set mtype 2292
set KERNEL zImage
set initrd initrd.gz
set cmdline "lcd.density=240 msmvkeyb_toggle=off gsensor_axis=2,1,3 force_cdma=0 board-htcrhodium.is_cdma=0 pm.sleep_mode=2 physkeyboard=rhod400"
boot
the pm.sleep_mode=2 was based on advice I found by searching and tried, but no dice, still dropping... it was set to 1 before...
Any ideas? I would LOVE to run Android as my daily, and AFAIK this is the only thing stopping me...
I don't know it will help, but on any recent kernel I believe you should use sleep mode of 1.
board-htcrhodium.is_cdma should be 1. F

I had it that way, but when I did it wouldn't see the GSM at all, it would try CDMA, and then fail and drop into airplane mode... That's when I tried setting it to 0, and was able to get a consistant signal, except for the sleep issue...
Thank you for your reply!

As I had said, it was at sleep mode of one, and I got the dropping. Based on my searching there was a suggesting of using 2, or even 3 on that, so I did, still didn't help...
Thanks though!
Seems like a bug in the newer kernels. I have a RHOD400 and do not have this problem at all, but it seems a lot of people are using their CDMA devices on GSM networks.
I've had a lot of reports from folks that are doing that, so try an older kernel. You'll lose camera support, but in theory this bug will not be present. I'd like you to help narrow it down if you can, to which kernel it starts in.

Well... I switched to the kernel you posted here ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885550 ) and that problem seems to be gone! Did get a SOD last night, but the signal seems consistant most of the time...
small glitches here and there, (market sometimes won't install apps, downloads, but hangs on instal, and a few system crashes that reboot to no service) but otherwise smooth sailing!
sooooooo... tonight I've been getting a ton of system crashes, usually when on the market, complete with relaunching in airplane mode, which is annoying... Anyone else getting these, or is it just me? Also, as I said before, 4 out of 5 times the market won't install... It'll download fine, just hang on installing and never finish... it takes a full reboot to enable me to try again...
Been getting a few more "program unresponsive" dialogs than I would hope, and on my Hero I would have run a fix permissions from ROM Manager, but I can't get it to install... Any ideas?
I truly do appreciate the help you have been giving me!

Kinda stealin your own thread at this point .
Are you on FRX05? Not sure if you said what build you are running... these kinda questions should go in the build thread tho TBH.
With that said, I would delete the data.img and start over. This will remove all the user stuff you've customized - basically starting clean.
dude i have the same problem on my rhod500, right now im using the tiad froyo x + the test kernel that arhhgggggg post from wilt2tilt and everything is working fine, try with that and let me know. the kernels from the autobuild site have the signal lost bug in my phone too
On the Rezound the location services target-symbol icon is always present in two states. An OFF state where only the main target symbol is showing, and an ON state having an additional pair of lines to its right hand side.
I have been on 4.03.605.2 Update since August with no issues, except two days ago I cancelled Verizon and have been using the phone with a T-Mobile SIM. Again all is working flawlessly (including data, phone, and texts) except the GPS started to fail within 10min of navigation. It fails because somehow the entire location service crashes (the target icon disappears completely), at which point fiddling with settings or AGPS cache and such is irrelevant. Only a phone reboot restarts the service.
(before cancelling Verizon, I was able to drive 1700 miles across country having the GPS fully functional for 8-12 hours at a time daily with no hitches. So there is something new amiss here. Also, I have already wiped the phone and reinstalled the 4.03.605.2 clean from scratch and re-rooted).
->My question is, does anyone know which specific apk is responsible for the location services (including the taskbar symbol) and can it be hot restarted by itself, or what could possible be causing it to crash in the first place ?
If you wanted you could try a new ROM or you could try a factory reset.

the location icon is stored in framework-res.apk and comes active by the framework.jar and services.jar i know there is a patch floating around that will give the GPS a more accurate location reading with updated north america stats. you can try to find this and run it to see if it patches the problem. i have never heard of this before.

I am afraid, the the gps.conf tweak is not helping in my case (tried it). For the lack of better explanation, it is as if the gps driver/daemon crashes (to borrow a windows term) and I can play with the settings and checkboxes all day, it will not come back online until a reboot.
To give you an idea of the symptoms.
For up to 10-15 min it works flawlessly, locking within 2secs, seeing 20 satellites and tracking 10-14 of them. Then within a few turns of GPS navigation the location services icon disappears, the gps icon starts blinking and GPStest screen goes blank with 0 in sight and 0 tracking. No amount of check-box fiddling in settings, or AGPS cache clearing recovers it until reboot.
Uninstalled gMaps, and tried a few other packages as well (CoPilot, Maverick, OsmAnd) makes no difference.
Even without any Nav software running ... just launching the GPStest app and leaving it on with the screen on, it will go for an hour or so before jamming. So GPStest goes for an hour and Nav apps go for 10-15min ... should I assume some kind of GPS buffer overflows and crashes the location service ?
SOLVED.
For some reason the Rezound needs to be either in Global or CDMA mode for the GPS to work indefinitely without fail.
When I put it on GSM / UMTS the GPS only lasts for an hour or so before failing and requiring phone reboot.
In GSM mode it fails within 5-10 min.
In CDMA mode it works perfectly even though it gets no signal due to the GSM SIM inside.
(Keep in mind I use the phone with a GSM SIM)
In summary, keeping the phone in CDMA or Global mode fixes the issue. I also added these lines in the gps.conf for the heck of it (but I really do not think they do anything. I can still get it to fail by switching modes)

That option on CM9 is the descriptive form of the "Global mode" in the HTC RUU under the hood.
My next step is to understand why the network modes affect the Rezound GPS like this.
Anyone knows if there an HTC doc that describes the official GPS APIs, or at least how to properly construct a gps.conf file with settings that the Rezound actually understands ?

Did some more searching on this and so far I begin to suspect the possibility that the Rezound is deliberately GPS-locked to the CDMA network by Verizon. (Unlike my earlier claim, the global mode does fail eventually. It just takes a while longer).
I am not happy with this but so far the only workaround is to switch to CDMA while navigating (even if the phone gets no signal due having a GSM sim).
I will keep looking ... and any suggestions are welcome...
The GPS works on the CDMA setting even with the SIM removed completely, (but it fails if set to GSM with no SIM and no data).
On reference to the sense 6 Insertcoin port, I would personally like to take a survey. Please take the time to post what issues you are having and how you upgraded to the new partition. I personally didn't have any of the listed issues except the video saving and I upgraded via ruu.

Mines shooting nuclear kittens from its head phone jack... Please fix my bug.!!
That sounds beneficial though. If it wasn't doing that we could lose everything. Whatever you do don't reflash or attempt to fix this
I was running Captain Throwback's 4.13.651.4 which I installed by flashing recovery and firmware, then the ROM. Never had any weird issues on that ROM.
When I went to this InsertCoin ROM, I flashed 3.0.6 and let it do a full wipe and flash. Then I realized I didn't download the latest one (must have been updating the links at the time) so I downloaded 3.0.7 and did an update flash. Had problems so I did a 3.0.7 full wipe and flash.
I did recover a lot of my apps + data using Titanium (no system apps), but it failed after a while with issue #3 below.
The issues I'm seeing are/have been:
1) Repeated activation prompt every boot (remedied by updating profile)
2) No sound with videos shot from the stock camera app (most of the time)
3) Apps not installing sometimes with error "cannot install on usb or sd" - fixed each time by unmounting sd card and installing app, then remounting. Doesn't happen on every app.
4) Google Now/Search not listening for voice
5) No automatic switching from Wi-Fi to cell data (option was turned off?!), but works now. Still sometimes doesn't like it if I turn on airplane mode and then try to re-enable Wi-Fi, end up having to restart phone to get Wi-Fi to work.
6) Default Mail app crashes when viewing some/many emails (Exchange and Yahoo). Using MailWise for now but I like the stock app better.
Extreme power saving mode works too well. My charger is feeling betrayed, unloved and unwanted.
I have "scanning always available" checked but I still have been losing WiFi connectivity at least a couple times a day, requiring a reboot each time. Usually it's when I leave an area and come to another (such as leaving work and coming home) but once it lost connection while at work and I hadn't gone anywhere.

I noticed that occasionally. But I never had to reboot, all I had to do was toggle Wi-Fi, and occasionally had to toggle mobile data after leaving Wi-Fi
Upgraded to the new partitions using the 4.13.651.1 RUU, followed that with subsequent releases up to .4. Since then I ran Captain_Throwback's 4.13.651.3 and .4 ROMs. And prior to flashing InsertCoin I was on the Novitious 4.3 / Sense5.5 ROM all using TRWP 2.7.0.1b (iirc)
Prior to flashing InsertCoin, I updated the Recovery to TWRP 2.8.0.0 and did a full wipe and flash. This was done 4 nights ago and the name f the downloaded file is "InsertCoin_Sense6_JWL-3.0.7.zip" but the software version shown on my phone is 3.0.6?
The abnormalities I am seeing are as follows:
Activation prompt started on the second reboot and ended on the 4th after I did a profile update.
Cannot save video files to internal storage or external SD (64GB FAT32)
Google Now, Search or Voice to Text input is not working. The prompt to speak never come up and in text messages the long press command simply does nothing.
WiFi will occasionally drop and cannot be re-enabled without a reboot. Toggling WiFi results in an extended period of time of it trying to turn on, but results in a failed attempt. Toggling Airplane Mode and/or Data has not seemed to help.
Have noticed that Airplane mode sometimes takes a long time to turn on, sometimes about or just over one minute.
Default mail app was crashing with some emails during the first day to day and a half, but I have not had any problems with it since, but that might just be the emails I have opened.
After each reboot I receive the error that com.android, phone has stopped responding, this happens about four times within the first couple minutes after each reboot.
The Weather Clock widget does not automatically change it's format when the phone is turned to landscape. Pressing the Home button does correct it. The widget does reformat without user input when going from Landscape to Portrait mode.
In-call volume seems low compared to normal.
And it should also be noted that I am using the Liberty Kernel.

Liberty kernel I believe breaks sd card in call audio is low but we are working on that.
Meaning just with the video camera use? I know in the kernel thread many have reported problems mounting SD Cards with the Liberty Kernel, but since I am using a different format I have no problems mounting the card, nor reading/writing to it. I can also take pictures and they are saved to the external SD (just conformed) with no issues, the only exception that I have found so for, is saving video files from the cam.
I brought this up in the official thread but figured it might warrant a mention here too. The tweak that is supposed to allow you too launch specific programs by either swiping to the left or right from the lockscreen doesn't work.
It only does the default behavior regardless of what options you pick in the settings menu.

That's odd. Doesn't sound like a kernel feature to me (but what do I know? -- answer, "not much" when it comes to kernels) Could somebody else (who's running the "default" kernel) attempt to set an application to launch by left/right swiping in the lockscreen?
Feature can be found in Settings -> InsertCoin Kontrol -> Various ("Lockscreen left unlock action" - select an app, and "Lockscreen right unlock action" - select an app) and see if this works for you with the provided kernel? Just curious if it's actually working if you keep everything as is instead of flashing the liberty kernel like I did.

I've tried it with the default/stock kernel and changing those values has no effect, even after restarting.
No problems running this rom (and using liberty kernel)
I wanted to thank the ROM developers. I am having NO issues running this rom, with liberty kernel, and a bunch of xposed modules. My phone feels more repsonsive then before when i was running Viper 3.1.7 using bulletproof kernel. First couple of restarts i had the activation issue pop up, but got that resolved. Only had 2 complaints, i don't like using pinch to zoom in the camera(would love an option to always show the zoom bar), and wifi tethering was not working. I got the wifi tethering to work by using WiFi Tether Router(also needed this app for tethering on Sense 5.5) Thank you developers for bringing new life into my old phone.
So for the past literally 3 mmonths, I have been unable to send a picture message, or do anything "data" wise (chrome, playstore, play music, games that require a connection) while "on 4G LTE.
The interesting thing is this...when I flash Jasmin or Skydragon, it works for about 30 minutes, then it NEVER works again once I disable data then turn on wifi, then reverse it. All I get on Chrome is "ERR Name not resolved".
Ive seen that this is a APN problem but I am unable to add one, and there is only one apn in the settings...does anybody have any idea how to fix this? I have unlimited data grandfathered in and I have been completely unable to use my phone outside of my house.
Any help is appreciated!
I understand I dont have signal in the screenshot...I had full bars at Kroger last night and was showing in amazement how I couldnt do anything but take pictures...lmao
Able to change APN in Cyanogenmod...
So I backed up my Skydragon rom, wiped everything off the phone, then flash Cyanogenmod 12 with Gapps and I have been able to get on the web and send MMS pictures ALL day even with toggling wifi/LTE and reboots...I also noticed that there is like 10 different APN's to choose from on Cyanogenmod AND I can MAKE a NEW one.
What gives?...
Ok...I lied. Getting error not resolved again...

I will guess it's a bad sim card. Call them and they may overnight one if they see you've used no data for three months, or stop into one of the dreaded Verizon stores and pick one up.
I completely wiped my phone before Installation of Cyanogenmod and had data for like an hour, and i completely wiped my phone again and reinstalled Jasmine, and i've had data for 2 hours now. I'm trying to test slowly where data quits connecting. It will SHOW 4G, full bars, but can't use it...it just says not connected to data and bla blah blah

Go check to ensure you have an IMEI number. If that is blank or all zeros, that could be the issue.
If so, getting a new sim card might fix it (just go into the VZW store and it should be free) but I would flash back to stock first or they will refuse to help you. Or you can restore it yourself manually. Or, if you're IMEI number is still there, then you'll still need to flash back to stock before going into VZW to get a new SIM card.
I've had it where I flashed back to stock using a TOT file and it wiped my IMEI number for some reason (the next time I did, it didn't wipe it so go figure).
Go to the following link (if you're IMEI number is wiped) to fix it. Hopefully, you still have your box the phone came in. Otherwise, you can remove the battery and find the number on a sticker in the battery compartment:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58915450&postcount=3
In that post, I explain how to restore your IMEI number.
I found the fix.
Okay so they recommend after booting a rom to let it sit for 10 minutes. I found in my case that this does NOT work. After multiple testing scenarios and a few weeks I discovered I need to let my phone sit for 30 minutes. Thats phone wiped, Jasmine installed with mods and all the shebang, and after you hit reboot phone set a timer somewhere to NOT touch your phone for 30 minutes and Data has never failed me. Now it is ENTIRELY diffrrent from letting it set to 10 minutes. My family has 6 G3's and 3 of us would flash with a ten Minute sit, and 3 with a 30 minute sit and we had almost PERFECT results with this.
Im not expert but I think its not giving the phone enough time to call for apns for the phone anf since you cant ADD any, you S.O.L. until you fix it.
We usually have 2 bars of 4G where we live so I almost wonder if its because of that. But you think two bars would be enough in 10 minutes to grab the proper apns.
Once again, 6 phones. 3 different houses. All samr results.
Wasnt a bad sim card...wasnt a imei wipe. It was NOT enough time letting the rom sit.
You needn't read this thread. There is nothing of any import here.
I was unable to learn how to delete it, or I would have.
As I mentioned below, I manually updated this phone to Nougat using the LG Bridge program. It complicates matters that I can't remember the exact time-frame for issues. I do remember getting real-time traffic updates using google maps even after I upgraded to Android 7. And I did stream Netflix once while on a 12 hour roadtrip, but I can't remember if that was before or after the road-trip. I have found and tried many APN's for the H2O service. Some are supposedly specifically for the G5, others just for mms or internet. Most recently, I did a factory reset after backing up my personal data and media. Twice now actually. The first time, I ran the backup software soon after resetting and when things hadn't changed, I surmised that maybe I was just importing the problem back onto the phone in my settings or something, so I reset again and this time only chose two of the settings categories near the top of the list since they seemed separate to the navigation programming.
I'm going to reset again now and see if the maps work with a stock setup, then see if I can slowly add things one at a time and continually monitor the data functionality.
If a moderator sees this and can delete this post, I would appreciate it since it doesn't seem like it could be helpful to anyone else the way it is. If I am successful in getting the data working and this thread still remains, I will post the process I had followed to achieve that in an "Issue Solved" heading at the bottom. Everything between the snowflakes (*****) is the older post and edits.
*****
History of Issue(s):
>This is my first smartphone and my first Android device
> Bought phone used off swappa running MM 6.?
>Have owned phone for around 8 months
>Volume down button wasn't working, figured I could live with pressing vol up and moving it down manually.
> Thought it would be good idea to upgrade manually to Nougat (10h update) Using LG bridge (about 5 months ago?)
> My carrier is H2Owireless, an AT&T MVNO
> Used to have internet, google maps real-time traffic used to work, Netfilx used to work (both without WiFi).
> Could make calls, send texts, listen to Pandora or Spotify and use my Maps for commuting to work.
> Couldn't send MMS pic msgs.
> Began to learn about APN's and what the different network settings did.
>Tried many APN's and fotzed around with Global, LTE/CDMA, LTE/GSM/UMTS and the submode settings
>Can get 4G and LTE , often have to switch back to Global setting to send SMS/MMS
> Had H2O set up APN as best they knew and network settings to what they felt would work best
> Can do anything and evrything when Wifi is enabled (that's never been an issue)
> I thought phone had bricked about 2 months ago while on a roadtrip.
> Discovered on forum that I could swap cam plus for chin and power on that way.
> Turned out power button was no longer functional
> Learned about vol up + charger to power on phone (use an app to power off and restart phone)
> took off cam plus so I could have phone in case.
And now, I'm standing at the edge of a very deep rabbit hole with a phone that can't use mobile data for most internet access (spotify works, Pandora never worked very well). I've discovered that the version of Nougat I'm running is problematic (update 10h Brightpoint) and that my forcing the update to Nougat might be largely responsible for these issues.
I see myself having a choice between learning how to flash the phone back to Marshmallow, or learning how to flash it up to update 21c... or live without mobile data for most of the functionality I wanted from the phone...
I seek advice from the the forum for which of these options people think I might best choose. Do I need to acquaint myself with these programs used to flash the ROM? Does it seem to you readers that my problems are symptomatic of those which are best rectified by flashing up? Or rolling back to Marshmallow...
I just want to be able to google something while I'm away from wifi.. to get traffic updates while I'm using the navigation.. to listen to spotify.. maybe even watch something on netflix... (calling, SMS and MMS functionality is a given, but I do still have them for the most part).
I can pick things up if I read tutorials / guides... I've flashed PC BIOS before... I could figure it out if I needed to...
But maybe I just need a new chin or clean it? Maybe I should factory reset? Maybe there's other potential causes I'm unaware of?
Any and all suggestions are welcome. It's late here and I won't be reading any responses until tomorrow at work.
Thanking you very much in advance. --Wayne
Edit: I was about to check LG Bridge to see if there was an update available for nougat.. thought I would get this out there first since I was pretty sure I wouldn't get both done tonight..
3rd edit: I checked for LG update, nothing available. I finally decided to factory reset before getting into flashing. That seemed to fix the google maps issue as it seemed to be working without WiFi enabled (I say 'seemed' because my office is slightly below grade and getting a good signal is tough. If it's not working, the address remains grayed out and the connection just buffers, the address filled in after the reset. Then I decided to move some of the things I had backed up from the SD card but neglected to deselect the settings box. After restoring much of what I had backed up, It seemed more like how it had been before the reset. I noticed a small icon next to the signal type and strength meter at the top which hadn't been there before the reset (a small white square with rounded edges that has a zig-zag line going through it that kind of looks like a jagged "N"). Instead of saying offline, the app says poor connection, so I will test it on my way home.. I am hopeful. It seems promising. If I have to reset again, I will deselect settings and set things up fresh; I think that will help. I am beginning to think this isn't so much about my OS or any hardware failure as it is the H2O at&t mvno being throttled or something similar. Even when I'm getting 4 bars of 4G, the maps loads very slowly.. nothing at all like it does on WiFi.
I'll post a final edit after I try it out on the ride home this evening.
