Hey everyone,
Just a short summary on me first and what gadgets i've owned before..
Every single iPhone, the 2G, 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S, Every single iPad, 1,2,3,
The HTC TItan Windows Phone, also I have the new Lumia 900.
The original first Motoroal Droid, and the Nexus one, the LG G2x, the Samsung galaxy S2, the Motorola RAZR MAXX.
As you can see I love gadgets, I don't have an ounce of fanboy'ism in my blood period.
Android in itself actually upset me, i just got tired of all the BS...that's why I hopped around phones a lot.. i got tired of resetting them.. battery pulling..etc etc...the Sluggishness of the UI.. etc.. The SGS2 was really IMO the best Android phone out of all of them that i've ever used.. i loved it.
Now we are here to the Galaxy note... WOW..JUST WOW.. i'm blown away by this thing.. maybe it's the screen size? or the gorgeous looking screen in general?
The build quality is NOT CHEAP.. for those of you reading this.. i was worried about that looking at videos b/c it LOOKS like cheap plastic.. trust me it's not at all.. coming from the RAZR Mazz which is supposed to have a solid back? that thing was garbage compared to this build quality.. I even love the feel of the clicking on the Power Sleep button.
Software-, I used it for 2 hours out of box, and was pretty turned off.. i was thinking to myself.. oh god here we go.. So i RUSHED to the XDA forums looking for roms.. i asked around nobody really answered or helped me so i figured it out on my own.
I ended up choosing the Team perfection Objection (RC3)..
i'm BLOWN AWAY... it's so smooth and fast... EVERYTHING WORKS.. i love it..
I can honestly say this is definitely going to hold me over until the iPhone 6 gen comes out. And it might take a miracle to pull me away because i have a feeling i'm going to fall in love with the huge screen size..
Camera-, it takes GREAT pictures.. i'm sure you guys already know that.. but i just had to confirm for those still thinking about buying.. coming from an iPhone 4S i don't feel bad about this purchase at all..
All in all.. my only frustration is that i don't have an LTE signal yet where i live... it's frustrating b/c it's literally 10 miles down the road! I could literally travel down the road and it picks up... it's also not where I work... =-( I hope ATT gets it's act together.

Everything feels like a toy compared to the Note. My Infuse has a 4.5 inch screen which not so long ago was a monster phone, and now that just feels silly to use. Haha.

Imagine how I feel, I'm coming from my old trusty HD2 running Android... Been holding out for the longest and yes I'm happy I did. When I first purchased the HD2 I was amazed at the size.... Now with the Note, I think I purposely walk around with it in my hand so that everyone could see it. I kind of look forward to hearing comment like "Damn thats a big ass phone! What is it a tablet?". I think thats what get me through the day.... Can't wait till the devs get the official ICS for i717!!!
I really need to root this thing. Had it about a week, switching from Sprint, so we are trying it and ATT out for a bit to see if we want to leave sprint. And I have to say as the phone stands out of the box it's good. But other then the screen it didn't blow me away. But I have a feeling once I start flashing roms its gonna be great.
Not sure i could even entertain the idea of going back to a 4 inch screen iPhone 5 = FAIL

Dude use the Team perfection objection rom... omg... i'm freaking loving it.
As of right now the best rom for the galaxy note is Flappjaxxx's. I've tried 5 of the top roms here and his is BY FAR the smoothest and most reliable..not one single force close on any app and everything works!

Same here... I was using a Samsung Galaxy S 2 Skyrocket and that's no small device. My wife has the same phone. When I hold it in my hand it feels tiny. At this point, the iPhone is a joke. A fragile device with little ability to customize and a tiny screen. No thanks. I know several people who left Apple because the iPhone is archaic and they don't regret it.
So to start off my 1000th posts id like to say i am very, very satisfied with the LGOG, coming from the Galaxy S2 which was a very good device even up to now but it was time to upgrade, I really gave props to the AT&T rep that recommended this phone, i was going to get the overrated S3 in Red or wait on the S4(which i found out is too big from rumors of screen size) but after touching this phone i was immediately sold on it. Its butter smooth and the display is incredible, i dont care about SAMOLED anymore cuz it put it to shame IMO lol and the quality of the feel of the phone is second to non i feel like im holding a real expensive phone compared to my old S2 even the S3.
LG really stepped up their game on this phone, although the only deal breaker was a non removable battery but the battery used on this from what i read up is real good. The lack of accessories like car docks, cases etc. and ROM development sorta disappoints but i know for a fact it will spring up and its a new phone so im giving it time!
Other than that i got a slamming deal at Costco for $50, Im sure i made the right move, probably the best out of the years ive owning a smartphone lol. I saved money at the same time bought a device that is comparable or yet even better than then S3! Plus I got an extra 16GB card which makes it 32GB total! Looking forward to communicate and contribute some beta testing and feedback with the development here at the OG sub forums! People here seem more matured than in the i777 forums, this will make up for the lost time due to all the craziness there lol
See you guys around!
Good to have a new, enthusiastic OG member. Welcome.
I come from an S3, and wholeheartedly agree with your post. Except I paid nearly full price, but worth every penny!
Welome! Beers are on me!
Have to say, coming from the S2 myself, I do notice the screen difference . . . in favor of the S2. I LOVE the deep ass blacks on the AMOLED S2, but the OG seriously takes the cake when trying to show people things. Don't matter how you hold it, the OG has the same color from almost any angle. The speed . . . well . . . no comparison. The OG wins hands down without even second guessing.
However, I do like a lot of the features on the latest JB release for the S2!! I have to hold off on commenting further until we finally get an AOSP rom,. and can start cherry picking features from other roms! Can't wait!
BTW,. nice BMW. Seems like a lot of guys here are car guys.

I just came over from the Atrix HD, myself. Loving the bigger screen, physical buttons, and above all the speed. The battery has left much to be desired coming from the AHD with the EB40 battery mod where I was able to push 9+ hours of screen on time. A usb charging pack will clear that up, though. With more power comes more battery use! Mainly switched to this phone because of Nottach. The ROMs he made for the OG Atrix were absolutely amazing. Can't wait to get this phone activated and use his (and possibly work on my own) ROM in the near future.

Another S2 owner in love with OG. But I have to agree about AMOLED deep black better than OG, I mean the sharpness on OG screams but black really is deep dark gray if put it side-by-side against S2. Also, screen maybe too sharp for its own good, hi-res photos look fantastic but size-optimized JPGs downloaded from the net look crappy because the sharpness exposes every detail of pixel compression and giving it an overall embossing feel which I really don't like.
Amoled Black's are a bit better but our whites are way better. White on the s3 is anything but. I see pink, yellow, and blue depending on the angle. Both displays have their advantages but our colors are more accurate and viewing angles are flawless.

Agreed about Whites being better on OG. I just wish we have a "movie mode" where colors are warmer and softer when viewing videos/pictures.

Another GS2 convert here. The only thing I miss about it is the TW clock. That Smart Alarm was the best alarm clock ever. I found a port for it but for some reason it doesn't let me change the default tone/song that is used. Which, of course, is super annoying.

Hello All,
Wanted to post about the process I went through that eventually landed me on The One. I read everything I could for the last three months about the two phones and wound up more confused then decided on which to upgrade to. I finally decided that I need to S**t or get off the pot, so I went with the S4 because:
1) I read more positive reviews about it's camera then the One's, and for me the smartphone is a Camera that I can make calls on, not the other way around.
2) I had never owned a Samsung phone and I wanted to check it out.
3) I was worried about the lack of updates from HTC when I had the Rezound. Though I am a member of Elevate, updates have been my biggest gripe with HTC and I didn't want to get stuck with another unsupported phone.
4) lack of SD card and removable battery on the One. Not deal breakers, but factors.
So, my wife, son and I got out hiking on Saturday and I took about 60 shots on the S4. They looked great on the phone, but TERRIBLE on the PC. I had hiked in the same park last year about the same time with my son and had taken a lot of the same shots on my Rezound so I found those and compared them...The Rezound shots were much better in many instances. So I decided to take the Rezound and S4 and make the settings the same. I then took about 35 comparison shots. Almost half the time, the Rezound shots were better. That really irritated me so I searched the web for comparison images (S4 & the One) and most of the time they were so close it didn't matter.
I had bought the One through Verizon's Edge program. I know it's not the smartest thing I ever did, but I did it and I'm cool with it. They exchanged the S4 for the One and I feel pretty good about it. If I want I can move up in a year to whatever is the hottest thing at that point. I lost my unlimited, but on my phone only and they gave me 6 gigs for the same cost of my unlimited. I've never gone over six gigs before, and I can tweak my usage a little so I never have to worry about that. Besides, my wife still has her unlimited and I can switch with her if I really miss it.
As soon as I made a call with the One, I knew it was the right choice. I'm glad I tried the S4 but I really didn't like it. It just didn't measure up in so many ways. TouchWiz is so cartoonish, I felt like I should be sitting at the kids table! The screen was awesome! But so is the One's, so I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything there.
I figured I would share the Experience here in the Rezound forum because it played such a big part in my deciding the S4 wasn't for me!
Peace People!
thanks for your take on the two phones. I am considering the S4 above the One right now coming from a Rezound currently. I would like to know more about pros/cons of both and decide then. Hearing about the picture quality of the S4 might be problematic, but I'd have to see other cases of the same problem to be convinced myself. Have you compared your S4 photos with those of others who have an S4 to see if they have the same problem?
When I was at the Verizon store they had a one and a s4 next to each other so it was easy to compare. I took photos on both and the one looked crisper and clearer. I don't know if its because I am use to sense but it felt smoother than touchwiz. Plus I like the feel of the one in my hand. I missed how the original moto droid felt in my hand from its all metal body. The s4 just didn't wow me and disappointed me in others. I am sure its a good phone but not for me. If you think HTC is weak in updates for their phone Samsung is far worse. Droid charge got like a few updates and that's it. Where as the thunderbolt went from froyo to GB to ICS. Sure it took awhile to get to ICS but at least it did get it. Sammy seems to just drop all support and just build a new phone knowing people will do the iphone effect of selling their old device for the new one.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
Yeah, I love the way it feels too! I really didn't want to buy the S4 based on the in store comparison, but I was trusting reviews because I shoot a lot of nature and I couldn't simulate that in store. After using the One for a week, it is every bit as good as the S4 Camera wise and blows it away in almost every other respect... So glad I switched!

I'm actually probably going with the S3 or S4. HTC One seems to be harder to find deals for with my credit. S3's are only $100 now, so this college student may snap at that.

The simplest answer is that it works so well...It's lightning quick already, so I don't need mods to eliminate lag. Everything does what is supposed to.
But the truth about flashing other Roms is that there is almost always some buggy element. I have only run a handful in three years that didn't. I rooted both my Incredible and Rezound because there were features out there that I couldn't get on those phones.I have everything I could want on the Stock One.
If I had a Nexus device, I would enjoy that experience, but I also would miss the TV app in Sense 5 and believe it or not, I am having a blast with Zoe and some of the other features of the Sense 5 Camera. It would require too many trade offs to go to Stock Android.
Having said that, I am a flashaholic, and I have flashed one Rom since the previous post. Frankly, battery wasn't as good, and the 4g signal wasn't consistent. And that was a Rom that was very close to Stock. I know I could reflash and do other things that might fix it, or I could just go back to Stock, which I did... I'll flash other Roms, my curiosity is too strong not to, but it's great to know that Stock is so rock solid to come back to!
How's the camera compared to rezound? Also how is the scrolling lag compared to the iPhone?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Lag? I know naught of you speak? Seriously, I don't have an iPhone so I can't compare it, but this thing blows my old Rezound out of the water, and it is every bit as fast as the S4 was.
As for the Camera, I love it. It does some things better then the Rezound (low light) and I have been able to crop with no problems. There's a learning curve but it didn't take long. I even have that purplish tint at times, but changing the iso usually makes it go away...

but as of thursday I now am an owner of the G2 (vzw) and would like to thank the developers here and any contributors for making the rezound one of the best experiences of owning a phone so far! Thank you!
On a side note anyone thinking about switching to the G2 should give it a try. I love how fast this thing is and the rom is pretty well customizable and still shocks me a little when i find more and more little options daily. Ive had no problems so far and gaining root was simple as could be. Give it a shot as long as its not physically to big for your liking.

how is the user interface in terms of smoothness? Is the web browser scrolling and other scrolling as smooth as the iphone?
I think it's super smooth it wipes the floor with my modded rezound, but as far as iPhone....... um I wouldn't know. I've never used one longer then a few mins. So I'm the wrong person to ask about that.

I also retired my Rezound last week for a G2. What a difference! Development is moving along quickly for the G2 so I'm hoping for some great roms soon.
Would you say the G2 is worth losing unlimited data over?
I didn't chance it, I bought outright. But I do have nothing but praise for this phone and could only hope for some of your expertise to add to this phone!

Thanks to everyone in the Forum. I have had my Z Ultra for 6 months, and appreciate all of the help and support. I am selling my Xperia Z Ultra on Swappa (along with some Incipio cases and a PC12 power cover). It's a terrific phone, and I enjoyed it very much.
If anyone is interested in a trade (Note 3?), please give me a ring on Swappa.
Oh, you'll regret this!
I can't stop playing with my ZU. Won't sell it until Z2 Ultra is out, or similar.

It's a hard knox life! Just check out the Note 3's (international version) original dev section. I can't see one custom ROM. Only kernels and misc tools. Oh, the AT&T and Verizon version of the Galaxy S5? There's currently a $12,362.00 bounty for root. ROOT.
How about the international version of the S5? Same story as the Note 3. Custom kernels, but no custom ROMs. You can all thank Knox for that, and that's why i'm never ever touching a Samsung again.
But you know... enjoy that Note 3, OP
Edit: Some strange font change going on here... meh.. i'll let it be.

Yeah, we don't have the biggest or even a particular active dev community here, but we do actually have a fair share of custom ROMs. The only thing we're "missing" is a lot of custom kernels, but that's understandable since kernel devs aren't exactly as common as ROM devs.

We have most of the main ROMs now, and I'm working on another (maybe 2 if I can find the time, and make my i7 laptop not feel like a netbook). Kernels are in short supply and I'm no C programer to do much other than small patches.
I do have to ask if the ZU users really do want dev work though, the last 3 or so threads that have asked for testers have all died in a hole...

This. I've noticed the same. Some people around here are complaining about the lack of custom ROMs around here, and when devs actually come, they keep their mouths shut. We should've mapped all the users here to see how many we are, because I believe we have a couple of very vocal people around here

Granted, T-Mobile (US) version has bootloader unlocked.
I just wish ZU battery can take at least 5000 charges before 15% degradation.

Looks like the Ultra's battery quality is good. I've had mine since september last year, and i still get 6-7 hours of screentime (depending on usage), and that's what i got 6 months ago. I hope the quality is as good as HTCs batteries, because i have an old Desire HD that's 3 years old and the original battery is still kicking and lasting about a day (depending on usage).

Since ZU battery is NOT removable, I really hope the battery can take at least 2000 charges before losing 15% capacity.
3 charge per day on extreme usage * 365 days * 2 years = around 2000 charges.

Wow
The battery may last better if charged slower (less heat) so i would do the over night ones via usb.
Ps you can change the battery quite easily, and just need the battery, a glue/seal set, a suction cup and a hair drier
