Hi all.
The power button on my HTC M8 is broken.
By broken, I mean that it has these "symptoms":
- sometimes works, sometimes doesn't
- ultra sensitive, almost to the slight touch
- ghosts locks/unlocks device
- ghost holds down the button
I know sending it to AT&T would be the best option, but they said it is not covered in the warranty and I would have to pay $120..
Is there anyway of fixing this myself? Or a cheap service for fixing?
Thank you all!!

A broken power button isn't covered under warranty? What the heck is covered under warranty? I would press them on this, because that is definitely a hardware fault. If not, you might go directly to HTC.

When ever I have the phone on the volume will keep turning up stopping me from doing anything on the phone. I tried restarting it and it has been fine for about 4 months and not covered by warranty since bought from someone has anyone else seen this problem.
If so how could I sort it out. It has had a custom rom and hspl from when I bought it meaning it was fine when he had it as well but now the phone just won't stop turning the volume up.
Thanks if you can help!
I wouldn't know, but it sounds to me your 'volume-up' button 'hangs'.

This is the weird thing the rock switch is fine. Guess may just have to take it in for repair or sell it and get the HD7
Loved this phone
"My stuff doesnt work, ah well too bad i'll just send it on ebay"
I hope ur being 100% transparent and warning potential buyers...
I much prefer the old style of presentation of the HD2 than HD7, plus i love physical buttons So will never switch my HD2 for HD7, even if it was possible to do so for free
The volume buttons may be misaligned/shorted by some conductive residue. If you're up to it, open us your phone and peel out the white portion above the volume buttons, cleaning the contacts with alcohol and realigning the metal buttons if necessary. Just be careful not to over-bend the flexible ribbon cable that attaches the volume buttons to the mainboard. This should solve your problem.

I was gutted with it when it broke but I am sending it to one of them useless recycle places through o2.
I hate the capacative buttons and HD2 for me was awesome but I just can not be bothered it opening it or getting it repaired. I mean everything else is in great condition just I think some water or something got between the rocker.
Damn snow
same problem with the volumn keep turning up
i'm having the same problem like yours. also i have the HD2 for a couple years . it' just starts to act up now. it's very frustrating. did anyone fix this problem?
could anyone be able to help me? im using HD2 normally with android 2.3.4. however recently my touch screen have has a problem is that when i turn off screen by pressing the end button, after that i turn on that screen and u know i couldnt slide to go the main menu . but if the screen turn off automatically and u turn on it immediately, u will slide and use it. So, yesterday i decided to up to another ROM to solve it, but when i did it the screen is changed that situation and that situation worse and worse until now i cant touch to screen. who could give me some cures for this disease. cheers for that !!!
btw, i did up to wm6.5 and nothing had changed ...................................
uppppppppppppp............... help me
What ROM are you running on Android? AND are you NAND or SD??
Sadly it has nothing to do with the rom loaded on your phone. The end button is right on top of the ribbon cable for the digitizer. Your phone needs a new digitizer. I had the same thing happen to me. You are not alone and its a common problem. I would say Its actually a fault in the HTC design since the end button puts direct pressure on the digitizer ribbon and eventually its becomes damaged. I have a new hd2 now, but I use button savior on android. It allows you to use a the touch screen to press the end button.
thx for ur advice . probably i have to buy another screen once (.

Thank you
But .. what is the digitizer ?
You have a link ?
my gf had this phone and this problem too. the reason was that the cable from MB to digitizer runs under the power button. And if you press power often, it's going bad.
Not really down to end button use alone. Main issue is the bond of ribbon to digitizer (touch screen) breaks down over time. Have had it happen on my own personal HD2 that has had light treatment & hardly any button use. Also seen it on an old stock hD2 almost fresh from the box. The things fail regardless of use really ... early & revision Digitizers seem about as bad as each other. So far our repaired handsets, Longest repaired being almost 1yr are still working great on $18USD replacement Digitizers ...
I believe I'm having a hardware failure with the rocker buttons. I have to press in certain spots to get the down key to function, and I have to press near the center of the rocker to get the up key to do anything.
It's been a while since an atrix apart, but can do so if needed. Is there anything I can do to attempt to repair this issue w/o ordering new parts? I know weird fixes exist for things like wifi, but not sure about this.
I know it's a hardware problem due to the fact that it's nearly impossible for me to get into recovery, since the keys barely function at all.
Thanks.

you start out by saying "i believe", and end off with "i know". its one or the other. luckily i know of the issue, having had it myself. it is a hardware issue. replace camera flex cable or replace device.
Sent from my MB860 using xda app-developers app
Just want to post an update. I had opened the phone up, and saw where the contacts were in relation to the buttons. The contact was pushed inwards towards the camera, so the buttons were not makign contact. Fixed it by cutting thin strips of plastic and inserting them in between the contacts and the camera. Buttons work like a charm and it was a free fix
The button seems very fragile on this device. On my other phones I am in the habit to click the power button to turn off the screen. But has anybody had their button "wear out" and need to be replaced?
Maybe I would be better off to double tap the screen to turn off the screen?
I've had mine for almost 2 years now and always turn the screen on/off via power button ... zero issues here, it still works as it did on day 1
Yeah me neither is working fine for almost 2years
Thanks guys, I was afraid it might be fragile since it jiggles. I just read a forum with people that bought refurb lg g5 and sent it back for rma to the ebay seller because the power button "jiggled around" and they thought the phone must be fooked up and sent it back for a refund
Yes it does. Dirt collects behind it and the button feature fails. Sensor still works.
You will need to buy a phone repair kit, and a button to replace it. All you need is a blowdryer to reheat the plate that keeps it in place, and remove it. Consider buying a new plate for it as you could damage it taking it off.
