What is the main use of this app? What i mean is..is it mainly only for people who does alot of ROM switching...so they have to save there apps?
If someone (Like Me) who will never switch there ROM and plan on staying on the ROM they have...would they still NEED this app? If so..for what purpose?

In my opinion, yes.
Just because you never switch roms doesn't mean you don't need a backup. Ttitanum can be used to back up apps, apps data & system setting (an of course restore all, some or one).
More than likely at some point in the life of your tablet you will start getting force closings, lockup, etc, due to an errant app, incompatibility or whatever. In those situations, sometimes it is necessary to do a fatcory/data reset & poof there goes all your installed apps & settings. Reinstall titanium after the reset & restore & your back in business OR you can spend lots of time re-downloading, installing & configuring things the way you want them.
It's also a good idea to use CWM to do a nandroid backup just in case.

All custom roms on the gTab are already rooted. Only if you go back to stock will they not be.
Installing roms & using nvflash are really much easier that they look/sound.
Take a look at 'goodintentions' site - Viewsonic GTablet For Dummies - at http://viewsonic-gtablet-for-dummies.webs.com/ for step by step instructions.

Yea...the ROOT was done by the person who sent it to me. Im sure its easy. But i think its more my fear of something going wrong. I dont have that kind of money to buy another one. See all these horror stories and stuff.
But yea..i DO think i need to learn this for myself. In case something goes wrong. Trying to think positive tho. I have that site book marked for a month now. just in case. Thanks for the info.
I know some rom's when signed into will bulk install previous apps and paid apps. My question is can that be done manually though adb or some sort of script. I think others have wondered this too. I haven't found an answer so thanks for any and all advice.

Titanium Backup can make things Easier...
It can, it can also make roms that much worse. I've found using backups causes issues with stability. Thank you for the reply.

As long as you just restore the app and not data, you'll be fine. I don't even use TB except to uninstall stuff myself.

Not 100% clear on what you're attempting to accomplish. Since I'm not clear, I'll do my best to take a few guesses at what you could be asking.
I assume you're not referring to some ROMs which come *packaged* with apk files already.
Example, you have 20 apk files and you want to install them all at once? OR you have 20 apk files and respective data for them and want to install the apk and their data?
As far as I've seen, logging into the Google account which had settings backed up to it will only install the apk files and not retain the respective data for those apps.

By restoring just the app, this answer is referring to the first example I suggest and I completely agree from my own personal experience. Restoring just the apk file, *should* not have any issues.
This is making the assumption the apk is compatiable with the specific version of Androd OS being used on the device, but generally this is not an issue.
If you're interested in the technical details behind how the process works, I can give a few high level points.
The package manager for Android constantly monitors two locations, /system/app and /data/app. If an apk file is added or removed for either of these two directories, the package manager will automatically process it by either parsing the new apk file and adding it to the launcher or by removing it from the launcher and potentially uninstalling the associated data.
Off the top of my head, from adb shell which you mentioned a potential "script" process, the adb command is adb install c:\downloads\blah.apk and the uninstall command is adb uninstall com.joeykrim.appname .
If you're wanting to script inside android using bash/sh instead of outside android using the OS as I previously mentioned with adb, inside Android, I *think* it is pkg .. or pkmg .. I'm not clear on the exact command which prob shows how little I work with the package manager in Android.
Personally, I add and remove apks thru adb or manually copying the apk into one of the active directories and/or remove them manually by taking out the apk file from one of the active directories and removing the associated /data/data directory for the directory.
Hope that isn't tooo much and helps provide some more technical detail!

This is exactly what I want to happen. For the market to reinstall the APK files without the data. They're not all paid apps some are free and they would install automatically after a login. This hasn't occurred by itself in a while for me and I was wondering if there is a way to force it. I dont like having to use titanium and data usage from re downloading all the apps doesn't really bother me.
Sent from my GT-i9100 using Tapatalk
I've never done it, but aren't you able to sync all your apps to App brain and have it reload them?
Honestly, I always run a "sync all" through the accounts and sync section in the settings menu before I switch ROMs. As soon as I open the market and agree to the terms and conditions, it automatically redownloads all the apps I just previously had, both paid and free.
ok so then I have a ? too... if you don't restore data, and we're all flashaholics, how do you get your game data back. say you play paradise island or angry birds or any other long term game, do you start at level 1 each time you flash a new one?

this is a great question and unfortunately i personally dont play any of the games .. not really much time. thats more a personal issue though .. haha. as such, i cant speak from too much personal experience.
i have seen game data, specifically angry birds stored in a secure directory on the /sdcard before. also, if not using the sdcard, i also do remember seeing a specific separate "secure" mounted partition.
not sure if they still follow this practice, but i would look into the secure directories / mount points / sdcard and would go after backing up / restoring those.
the up side to this issue is all android device users who customize their devices with root access should face the issue of being able to backup/restore their game data. this point increases the likelihood of there being a good guide / resource is much higher as this is not an evo 3d specific issue.
i would be interested to see any results ppl find. please feel free to post back!
hope that helps!

Absolutely nothing lol. I back up apps and data with TB and I always restore everything. Did it going from Sense to MIUI, back to sense, and even for ICS. I have about 50 apps that TB backs up and restores for me, never had a single issue with any of them.
So long as you don't back up SYSTEM apps or data, you won't have any problems.
But, as always YMMV, this has just been my experience.
So I've done an extensive search on Google (and this forum) without any reliable answers. My issue is that after flashing a new rom (after wiping data/factory reset) Spotify will automatically delete my offline playlist. Using Titanium or any other backup solution WILL not work with spotify. After restoring it will restore default settings of the app and log you out.
I have tried copying the Spotify folder from my phone to my computer, than pasting after flashing the rom, but this does not work.
Has anyone figured out a way to NOT have to re-download spotify playlist after flashing roms?
EDIT: See my 2nd post for info on solution.

I FIGURED IT OUT! Atleast by accident, I think.
I decided to buy Titanium Pro after getting tired of having to click through the accept for every app. So after flashing a new rom (after backing up Spotify) and opening up Titanium, it asked me to enable dev options and debug mode. So I did that. When I went back into titanium to restore my apps it notified me that my device id had changed and that it may cause problems with backing up or something along those lines. Titanium offered to change it back, and I did. I restored my apps, opened Spotify and was greeted by the playlist screen with the same offline playlist that I had before.
Long story short, use titanium to backup. After flashing, make sure to enable debug/dev options and restore your device id back to what it was on the previous rom and it SHOULD work. I take no responsibility of any issues caused by this.
Thank you! This has been annoying me for literally years!
To restore the Android ID manually with Titanium Backup (sometimes it won't warn you that the the ID has changed as you described) go to the menu button on the overview screen and select "Manage Android ID ..." then select "Restore Android ID from a backup", also "Settings Storage" should be backed up to allow this. I do not restore "Settings Storage" because this can cause issues if moving to a ROM with a different base e.g. moving from AOSP to AOKP/CM.
I wish I knew this was possible before downloading 5,000 songss

Does this work when you reboot as well? I only just got a spotify premium account and had assumed that my tracks would stay downloaded when I rebooted my device. Was disapointed to discover that it wasnt.

Nope, rebooting is a different issue. Probably with the app itself. Try downloading a small playlist with like 1 song and rebooting and see if it happens again. If it does then there's probably an issue with the app/storage or something.
Will it really work?

Did not work for me and i tried this method yesterday.
Bit of an old thread, but I did a nandroid of my new LG G3 and tried out a ROM that didnt work right, so I restored my back up and Spotify lost all of its cache even with the proper ID in place already. So no luck here in restoring my cache which was easy by just restoring the proper ID of the phone before, but obviously that isnt the case and I usually have a bunch of playlists actually downloaded for offline play and nothing after restoring my nandroid
I wonder, isn't there a way that works the opposite way?
Let me explain:
Instead of backing up and restoring the Android ID with TB, can't we edit some file in the Spotify offline folder on the phone to make it match a new Android ID?
Any experts out there?

I appreciate your "mistake" very very much, cheers to you!. :highfive:
This absolutely works
Did it last night for a firend who unfortunately uses spotify, 1,700 offline tracks successfulyl restoreed after i had to wipe his device and flash it back to stock after he corrupted his external sdcard, running in adopted storage mode....damn, ive never used that and no i know why...what a mess when that goes wrong...i hope the days of low memory devices like the Moto G 4 Play are truly behind us, utter crap out of the box for usable app storage, no choice but to use adopted storage....
And why not throw in a rant....
Let me start by saying i dont do streaming media, for several reasons:
* Bandwidth - in some countries its a nightmare to do streaming without drama, even in 1st world Australia, we have issues with our (Liberal Party hobbled) NBN...
* Proprietary formats and encryption - youre locked to that provider. I dont get why you would let any company lead you down that garden path and pay for your media to be restricted, and especially in spotifies case, locked to the Android ID iof the device - meaning if you want to move it to another device, and dont want ot have to download it all again (11Gb in my friends case), you have to void your warranty on your new phone for one goddamn app, to root it to set the Android ID back the previous devices... Fricking American companies need ot realise that we dont all have fiber fricking network access...
* Utter wastefulness of resources in streaming overall, i do not get how people think its normal to watch something once, and if they want to watch it again, have to stream it all over again. Think of the absolute utter wastefulness of bandwidth globally, the electricity and other resources used in doing this. Humanity is doomed if this doenst register with you. Those for whom is doesnt register as indulgent wasteage should be the first ones made into Soylent Green....
We should be stamping this sh%t out, not embracing it
So while it does work, it raised more questions for me than it answered, and very decidedly cemented my hatred of streaming media.
I like to buy things once, download it once, and use it again as many times as i want. Every track i own came from a legitimate source, either ripped from a physical medium, or purchased in open format, and resides on my PC or an external drive that i can use across any device i own.
I will never give a damn cent to Netflix, Spotify or their kind
Death to streaming media....

I understand your worries but as the above member said, you have nothing to worry about. I have the International unlocked version (Not AT&T's) and I rooted it with 'Kingo Root' 2 weeks ago and everything is fine.
So, by acquiring root, you can use Titanium Backup to disable/freeze or delete AT&T apks. Now I suggest you only freeze them first, reboot your phone, use it a bit, make sure there are no errors happening since some APKs are needed by the system for your phone to function or else it will crash and not boot-up properly. So freeze first, test your phone, if all is good, delete them. I personally only delete apks that I am sure I don't need or those that I can re-download from the Play Store if need be. The rest, I just freeze them and forget about them. They can't act on their own if they're frozen =).
Btw, you can still disable/freeze apps without root by going to System settings - More - Application manager, and swipe to "All" category, and find the ones you don't want, click on them, and then click on "Turn Off". (I still prefer Titanium Backup since it shows me all apks and freezes all of them)
got the root

AND A BIG THANK YOU FOR REPLYING!!!!!!!!! I am all rooted now and want to make sure if i erase apk's they are the correct ones I cant freeze. red423

Great! glad it worked out. I had an S4 prior to this and this Zoom is quicker and smoother I just miss the bigger screen + resolution and thinner body.
There's no kitkat update yet but apparently they announced it and should be out in the coming months hopefully!
I just recieved the phone and transferred all from my S22U.
While browsing in Chrome I noticed that the back button on the lower right corner doesn't register touches sometimes. I have to touch the back button multiple times until it works.
Anybody else having issues with touch?
It should not be the case.
Backup data, factory reset the phone, restore data without restoring apps and settings and then check. It's time consuming but is a great way to start with a brand new phone.
Is this issue only on chrome? Or in other apps too?

Yeah, don't use SmartSwitch. Do a clean load from scratch. If you don't screw it up with upgrades/updates or buggy apps a good load can last years on an Android and remain fast/stable with minimal maintenance.
ApkExport can be used to create installable copies of your current apps so no Playstore is needed. Saves time and sanity.

I hand load everything. I use the SD card as a data drive; everything I need for a full reload is on it, then regularly and redundantly backed it up.
Current load on this N10+ will be 3 yo in June. Still runs like a bat out of hell.

adb pull /sdcard
delete Android folder and copy over everything manually to the internal storage on the folder (adb push won't push subfolders)
Set up everything else from absolute scratch.
It's annoying but this is the only way to make sure you're starting with a clean slate and that your bugs aren't caused by something from your old phone. Spending an hour or two now can save you tens of hours down the line in troubleshooting nonsense nobody else seems to be suffering from and coming to the conclusion you have to factory reset anyway.
It's a good time to clean up apps you may not use much anymore too as you'll have to install your apps manually. I usually end up losing 10-20% of the apps I had on my old phone because I realize I don't really use them.

I just recieved the phone and transferred all from my S22U.
While browsing in Chrome I noticed that the back button on the lower right corner doesn't register touches sometimes. I have to touch the back button multiple times until it works.
Anybody else having issues with touch?

adb pull /sdcard
delete Android folder and copy over everything manually to the internal storage on the folder (adb push won't push subfolders)
Set up everything else from absolute scratch.

Could copying everything manually what's inside the folders, cause problems in terms of cache and so on? Do these folders contain cache?

Yes. The whole reason to do a clean load is to ensure the integrity of the load and to not reload the previous problems or malware. Letting the apps install clean is important.
I only restore data to trusted apps that allow backup and are difficult to setup from scratch... like Poweramp.
If you fail... you will live with the issues it caused until you factory reset it, again, in the worst case scenario. It's good to go through installing all the apps and configuring them at a reload as it allows you to spot previous mistakes and raises your level of awareness.

Yea I get it, like you should only backup the folders/appdata from apps you know it won't cause problems. Otherwise clean installing best option.
Today I also found out that some websites in Firefox, also have this problem in top left corner not responding. I guess it's software related, because same websites had no issues on Chrome.
