backlight xperia z2 off - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Have a xperia z2 and the backlight its off i see the lcd its ok i change for new one and have same problem.
The problem its in motherboard, i see in internet xperia z backlight problem but i have xperia z2 and not find any solution for this.
I think problem its a fuse but not have pic of fuses xperia z2.
Thanks at all! And sorry for my english!

it is a rough thing to do, but it is the only way..
I have the same problem, I found these photos online, but the big deal is how you are going to replace the fuse, it appears to be a surface-mount component, and where to find a new one anyway.. It is hard way for both of us, we'll not throw away the motherboard, heh sony..
If you dont care about working without a fuse just remove it and solder the two ends, you can remove it using heat gun or hairdryer. Or search for this video on youtube Surface Mount Soldering 101, I cant post links
dont forget to pull the battery flex connector first!
sorry for the late replay

I suggest, you'd better post in the correct forum ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=476
for all members of xda - developers can understand what you are offering

Cannot hear people I talk to

I can only barely hear whomever I talk to, why is that? It all started when I installed a custom ROM on my X10 Mini. A reboot or turn off didn't help it. I fail to see why a software can cause hardware not to function as it should.
I have tried cleaning my phone in SEUS, but it didn't help it; my problem persists. I have no screen cover whatsoever and the little hole for the earpiece is not clogged with dust and what-not. What should I do? Is there anyway I can make it work again WITHOUT replacing it? I haven't got a dime to repair it for and I bought it in February '11.
I tried flashing stock firmware, but it didn't help it. I contacted the developer of the ROM I'm using and he says he's never heard of that problem before. I'm the first one to have it.
Surely, a software cannot make a hardware not working? If it's broken, then how on earth has that happened? I have never dropped it.
such things happen quite often its most certainly not software related.
put it on your heater in your rom, let it lay for a while when the heater is warm, try to make a call if it works then you most likely have a cold solder point in the microphone. you could try to open it up if you know how to solder and just reheat pins around the microphone if not i wouldnt suggest doing it
How could this have happened? Do you think I may have exposed it to too much cold?
It comes like this from the factory, you cant do anything about it. If its a cold soldering all it takes is one drop or the phone getting warm and cooling off. The point will start to diisconnect sooner or later.

So in order to fix it, I need to replace the earpiece? These god damned smartphones makes me wanna go back to dummyphones. I remember this old K700i of mine. I could drop it and even on purpose throw it in walls or the floor without anything breaking it. But smartphones break as time passes. Where's the good old quality gone?

You dont need to replace. Btw this can happen tooo all electronic devices. Of course depending on the qualtiy of the soldering.
However dissassembling it and reheat the solder point usually does the trick. If you know how to do it or maybe somebody you know can do it for you. Theres a big chance you only need to solder the pin around the speaker.
I wish you luck

[Q] [XPERIA PRO] Dead and Resurrected Loudspeaker... Help

I got my Xperia pro just two weeks ago and since the beginning it started to show erratic behaviour in the loudspeaker as from time to time it stoped working and the only way to bring it back to work was two remove the back cover of the phone and then pushing over the loudspeaker piece.
As I had great need for the phone and its contents I deliberately decided not to send it for warranty ( my bad i know) but instead try to find a solution myself, so I take it to a friend´s and we unscrewed and retired the loudspeaker piece from the phone... so far everything just seemed normal, i found that there are two pairs of contacts on the pcb that make contact on the loudspeaker piece. Watching the phone from the back the ones on the left are the actual source of sound and directly connecting those to the loudspeaker (I split the whole piece open) made the sound come clear and fine, the other set of connectors on the right I couldn´t find what they are for. Since the phone does not seem to be bothered by having this piece removed i ran test with it on and so far every componente except the loudspeaker is working fine: BT, WIFI, GPS, GSM, 3G, Accelerometer, Vibrator, Mic´s, FM, cameras, brightness sensor, proximity sensor, touch, hardware buttons, compass.
The solution I found was tho completely strip the loudspeaker from the original contacts and make direct connection with two tiny cables two the pcb, IT WORKED!!.... but in the process I just broke the other pair of contacts, the one on the right (looking the phone from the back) so now they are not connected and whatever were they for is not working now, it´s just that I don´t see what could it be since every component I´ve tried so far is working fine.
If someone coulb bring further enlightment on what are those connectors for and what I broke I woul really appreciate. THANX XDA!!
Don't you have a valid garantuee?
EDIT: Oops, read over it.

I´ve aready check out that schematics but I´m too noob to figure out what is what and definitely I don´t know what are those connectors for.... So far I´ve used the phone the whole day and I noticed two things:
1. Early in the morning after playing music on the loudspeaker for about half an hour tho sound got distorted, after a little while and without my intervention it fixed it self and the sound has been clera and fine the rest of the day... maybe a loose contact?.
2. the signal strenght has been like a half of what it used to be. maybe those connectors are some kind of antenna?
Anyone willing to confirm that??
Another question. In your NEO´s do you have also those two pairs of connectors??
since the PRO and the NEo are very similar I would guess so but I don´t have a NEO to check it.
the model of the XPERIA PRO is MK16a
THANX forum!!
Update I´ve started tweaking with inserting aluminium paper to try and guess if it is an antenna and guess what??:
1. signal strenght without aluminium filling the holes:
-73dbm 20 asu hone alone
- 93dbm 8 asu :sandwiched between my hands
2. signal strenght with aluminium filling the holes:
-65dbm 28 asu hone alone
- 82dbm 15 asu :sandwiched between my hands
so what do you think??

I don't plan to open my Neo as long as it's under garantuee or working. I opened my previous phone (Sony Ericsson K330) to remove some dust. I touched some connector with my screwdriver and I saw a huge flash and some coming of it and then it died.
And that's why I bought a Neo.
well I understand nobody will be as dumb as me by open their brand new phones... hehe... anyway if you find a way to helpme I´ll be so glad... by the way aluminium paper folded seems to give me a pretty variable signal.... anyone an idea to replace it for a better component.... and yes I´already told the seller of the phone to look and see if he can find the original part for me.... guess it is´nt that easy in my country

[Q] xperia s magnetic speaker

Hia guys, something strange happened to me the other day..
I had some change of money in my pocket and when i i put my phone in the same pocket i
and i pulled it out some time later, my change was magically stuck to the back of my phone..
So i tried that again, and it seems that my loudspeaker of the phone is still magneticaly charged. I tried this with some other phones, including the iphone but no phone did the same..
This is kinda odd because as far i know phones arent allowd to do this.. what if i slide it on accident my pin or credit card allong its back.
I
Am i the only one w
Please give me some info on what to do next. Ill post a video later on.

Of course the speaker is magnetic, that's how it works. I didn't think it was that strong though.

the magnet on the speaker of the xperia s/p/u/sole/go is not covered, with materials that have magnetic permeability properties, and absorb magnetic field! becose they fownd a way to make it not interfere with the compass and other stuff and to make stronger the magnetic field detection!
so i think is not a problem since is not powerful enough to damage stuff like credit cards!
"found on goolge"
thankss guys
Thanjs for your replies! I was a bit nervous about this what i had a defect phone,
Thanks guys!
Hey.. i have the sony xperia s now for a few weeks. And i have to say, it has broken 2 of my credit cards!! Now i am searching for a new backcover to protect my cards from the phone -.-
I was amused when I pulled my XPS out of my pocket and had a bunch of coins stuck to the back of it
I'll make sure I don't keep it next to my cards from now on though!
If the Xperia S magnetic speaker can demagnetize and damage credit card, then it is really having strong magnet...
And the only advantage of having a mobile phone demagnetizer is when you are in date and don't want to pay the bills...

Water Damaged Z2.. Trying to fix it!

Hello.
So to make a veeeery long story short, the phone leaked water in a lake at about 0.5 meters depth after a minute or two with flaps definitely closed (checked 5-10 times before submersion). The screen then flickered and died.
Phone gets sent away to a service center, tested and results unsurprisingly say its watertight so must be user fault. Sony and service provider refuse to help me in any way to fix the broken phone, so basically they say i have to pay it as normal (it was 4 weeks old at time of damage).
I received the phone back after countless phone calls to sony and service provider trying to get them to take responsibility, especially sony, but to no avail.
So now im trying to fix it myself. I took the phone apart, and the screen connector at the bottom was fried as expected. I bought a new screen and flex connector cable but still my screen wont show. The touchscreen works perfect, and so does the phone. When i connect it to my tv via MHL it works flawlessly. Every function including the new touchscreen works perfect, just that the screen is black on the device.
Am i missing something?? I really want to get this working so i can say IN YOUR FACE to this stupid company SONY. Im thinking the only thing it could be now is some faulty component on the mainboard regarding screen output, seems strange though that everything works perfect via MHL, especially the touchscreen.
Anybody have any ideas? Would be greatly appreciated if anyone can share similar experiences!
Cheers, Vincent from Sweden.

Hello.
The phone has booted ever since it got water damaged, even with the bad screen. Yes the touch panel works perfect but no display, and i can see and use everything on the phonebon my tv via mhl cable. I even updated firmware whilst using mhl to see if it would help but still no picture on the device.
I have replaced the touch screen and the flex ribbon cable that connects screen to mainboard. I have also removed mainboard and cleaned it with 95% alcohol incase some water or dirt causing a short circuit somewhere.
The mainboard looks fine, and everything works apart from the visual screen. Nothing is overheating. Im really baffled as to what could be wrong, but it surely must be something on the mainboard?

I got same issue on Galaxy S4 but that wasn't water proof so this type of damage was normal for it.
have u tried ur display on another board?
- as Sony said it was user fault... after phone get wet have u tried to dry it with heat?
+ as i read the warranty agreements when u open phone by urself or others (non official center) it will void the warranty.
anyway If ur display not working with another board so thr is problem in display panel and not anything on board.
Please Inform me if u got any info or result of this damage

Yes the phone is thoroughly dried out. I only opened the phone after i had received it back from sony service. They said it wasnt covered by warranty because it was water damaged and was caused by the user (even though both water indicators behind the 2 flaps are still white and not been exposed to water), and they said that they never repair water damaged phones.
Thats why i decided to open it and try to fix it myself, i had nothing (more) to lose!
I havent tried the new display on another board, thats exactly what i want to do but cant get hold of a new board. I've even been taking apart previous smartphones to see if the display can be connected to it somehow just so i can confirm it works. But the probability is that it does work, as the first "broken" screen worked in the same way as this one, touchscreen fine but no display. Thats why i changed the flex cable also, i thought it must be that when the mainboard seems to be doing everything else perfectly.
Does the problem have to be in one of those 3 components? Screen, flex cable, mainboard, or have i missed something?
Thanks

Yes, it should be those factors. From what you have stated, its most probably the connector on the main board. Before you make more purchases, try to take it to a shop and ask them to test the screen on another phone, so you can see if its the screen or not. It MIGHT be a faulty flex cable that you just purchased, hopefully, since its the cheaper solution. I actually bought one in ebay that was water damaged, changed the screen, middle frame and flex cable, and have a brand new refurbished Z2, good for me the main board was intact. I would take the board out, wash it with 95% alcohol again with a soft toothbrush to brush impurities off the connector piece. Then spray it a little with electrical spray and leave it in rice to thoroughly dry out overnight and try all the connections again. Look through the main board with a magnifying glass and see if anything obvious burned out, the smallest connection can cause problems.
If all fails, then take it to a shop to test the screen or the main board, hopefully they are friendly enough to do it.
Good luck buddy. :good:

Sounds like good advice elbello
Good to know that you have managed to fix a water damaged Z2 using the same mainboard, hopefully i can have the same luck.
So you think it could be the flex cable? Are they known to break easily?
I have already cleaned the board twice with alcohol, maybe using electrical spray might help, and i will check it with a magnifying glass aswell.
Hopefully i can find a shop that will test the screen for me, but this is Sweden, the place where no favours are done, and where everything has to be sent away and fixed by professionals!
Thanks for the replys guys
I have just checked the whole mainboard with a magnifier, and found no oxidation anywhere. I found quite a bit of dirt in some places, and i have once again cleaned the screen connector with 95% alcohol and also the other side of the board behind the screen connector. I dont have any electrical spray at this time so cant test with that.
Another thing i have realised is that there is visual damage to two contact points that are located at the bottom of the phone, very close to where the flex cable connects to the lcd screen. What are these two contacts for, and could they be causing the problem? I will attach an image of them.
Thanks.

From that picture, I dont think that affects the screen at all. Bad thing is you cant try the two pieces you bought with another board so you can narrow the problem down.
I doubt the electrical spray will make wonders, it just good to clean dirt and make the contacts react better after oxidation, but if you state they are clean...
Think your only options is to consider it a loss, sell it in ebay for parts and stuff, or try getting a new flex and see if it was that, but if it wasnt, its like throwing money away. I would say the same for the screen, but those go for $100+ easily.

Yea i was thinking about selling it for parts, but its not really worth much without a working mainboard. I will probably just keep it and wait till i can get hold of a new board. How much do you think a new board would cost? I cant find one anywhere at the moment when searching on ebay/google.
Wish i had access to a working board for testing
Hello,

Yea i was thinking about selling it for parts, but its not really worth much without a working mainboard. I will probably just keep it and wait till i can get hold of a new board. How much do you think a new board would cost? I cant find one anywhere at the moment when searching on ebay/google.
Wish i had access to a working board for testing

Hello,
I'm now in the exact same position.
Water damaged, Touchscreen is still working I can enter recovery any press stuff but no display only shows black.
Had my screen replaced in a shop here but same problem prevails.
They told me to replace Mainboard 3500 THB.
But they didnt have one right then.
He could fix it?

he could you solve your problem? It happens to me the same with a z2 . I board bought new eh and the problem persists . you could help me?
Thinking of buying a used z2 with intermittent touchscreen issues. It works but seems to be intermittent it either takes multiple taps to work or it goes mad like your pressing the keys could this be down to water damage or possibly just a software issue and need re-flashing a ftf by clean install it's a totally stock z2 in mint condition for £50

Ghost touches are a digitizer problem right?
You can buy a new one for about 30-50$
