I have perused the forums of multiple HTC devices, trying to figure out if I can flash any RUU I want (that is compatible) to an HTC One M7 that is S-OFF. If I can, do I need to downgrade my HBOOT before applying these RUUs? Thanks to anyone who replies.

Assuming you have a M7 that is S-OFF and you want to run a M7 RUU of the same type of M7_U/UL then yes. You have to make sure that your CID & MID are compatible. If the hboot is lower than the phone then you will need to downgrade the hboot.
It would be easier if you would post what RUU and the fastboot getvar all except for imei and serialno of your phone. If you want a more definitive answer.
I was looking for a general answer, yours did the trick. Thank you!

Dear fellow XDA members,
I am in need of some assistance. I just got my HTC EVO VIEW 4G and unfortunately, I accidentally upgraded to Android 3.2 HoneyComb without doing the Revolutionary S-OFF, so currently I did an HTC Dev unlock on my View but it still says "EXPRESS PVT SHIP S-ON RL" and it also updated the "HBOOT-1.14.0005." I tried checking out Revolutionary website and it does not support HBOOT-1.14.0005, so I was wondering what can I do? Do I need S-OFF for anything? I currently have Clockwork Mod installed on my View but it still has S-ON so I was scared about flashing ROMS. I am trying to flash Desensed 1.5 but is scared that I need S-OFF to do so... Can anyone chime in to help me please...
THANK YOU SO MUCH.
PS: BTW, I been searching and reading and rereading.... I just don't understand..
1) You'll need to downgrade to GB
2) you'll then need to run revolutionary for S-OFF
3) you can then re-upgrade to HC S-OFF

I don't think there is anything in the tool, that globatron hasn't already written a guide for on the Flyer. And none of them are hard to do. Anything particular you are trying to do?
ive done the OTA update, and then unlocked using HTC-DEV method becasue my HBOOT is 11.11.0011 and revolutionary didnt liost that hboot as being compatible. Ive been able to install a revolutionary Clockwork mod nad then went ahead and flashed LeeDriods ROM. But now it just starts up with the R2D2 sounds, boots a little and restarts.
Ive been reading and I think it either needs to flashed from fastboot or need to downgrade to GB and relevant hboot.
Also even though I have unlocked the bootlaoder from htc-dev it still says "s-on"?
I'm in the same boat. My flyer is
Hboot 1.11.001
OTA to HC
Unlocked the bootloader using HTC method
Load CW recovery.
Can I just follow the directions to down grade?
sorry to ask people for help again.. but there are alot of guides for unlocking/downgrading/flashing etc. could someone just point me in the right direction of one guide that is applicable to my particular case?
thank you.

I don't know why people keep coming on here and asking why they still have S-On after HTC Unlock. Its never been stated that HTC Unlock gets you S-Off, it just gives you an unlocked bootloader, which is not the same thing.
If you want real S-Off, downgrade and root using globatron's guide:
htthttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1307759p://
Then you can upgrade back to HC if you want using the following guide (also by globatron, becuase he's the man). You will also need to have the HC Hboot if you want to flash a HC custom ROM, which is also described in the following guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358758
If you want to flash a custom ROM without getting S-Off, from my understanding you can do so using fastboot. But I haven't seen any step-by-step guide. You might start reading here:

It might be just me but I don't see anything in these guides with anything to downgrade the hboot on 16gb Flyer to gain compatibility with Rev. root method. It is not for me personally but seems others here are having that issue. With those newer hboot versions is there even anything that can be done at this time?
My understanding is that when unlocked with HTC dev you can flash recovery then adb push gb hboot while in recovery then run appropriate gb ruu. Once on gb rev s off then update to hc s off

Yes you need to be s-off in order to install firmware that does not match your CID or MID.

You need s-off if you are going to run a different carriers ruu if you want to run a custom rom from the international forum you can be s-on or s-off

I just went through this process and S-OFF is not enough, you also need to change your MID otherwise OTAs will fail. I will write something up soon on what I did to convert my ATT to International ROM.
Just got my One today, coming from an S-Off One X. Is getting S-Off deemed important on the One?
##Update##
Realized how easy it was to obtain S-Off compared to the HTC One X (which admittedly was pretty easy already) and went ahead and did it anyways
Honestly if you need to ask this type of question do not attempt it, just because its on here doesnt mean its a necessity...htc dev unlock the phone and flash a custom rom and be happy with that for now until youve read read and read some more....
Hi guys.

How will these methods work with monarubo s-off? My DNA is a dev phone like the op has. If this method would work I would use one of those methods. But I don't see my soft method. I used those on my other DNA, just wanted to make sure one of those methods would work without borking my phone.

so ive got the at&t htc one with hboot 1.44 and s-off
if i use the latest at&t ruu, will it update the hboot? and if so, will i keep s-off with the updated hboot?
even if it doesnt, has anybody updated the hboot past 1.44 when they already had s-off, and did they keep s-off?
thanks in advance!

T-Mob=GSM. We use the International forums for the most part.
That explains it then. I guess I should head over there. By chance do you know anything about converting T-Mobile htc one to dev edition?

Yup. Grab the proper hboot for your device from rumrunner.us, follow the instructions to flash it, change your CID to SuperCID and run the dev. Ed. RUU. Couldn't be much easier. (Addition: You must be S-Off prior to doing this)
(With that HBOOT you can also change the MID to Dev. Ed. and use the actual Dev. Ed CID too if you wish. That's how I normally do it.)
Dev Ed Info:
CID: BS__001
MID: PN0712000
Good thread on CID/MID inffo and RUU: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2182823
htc1guru.com also has most of the RUU files.
I've converted mine from T-Mobile to INT'L, GPe, Dev and back several times. That HBOOT above is a life-saver.
Good luck!

Not if you're T-Mobile.
They list the different HBOOTs and what device they are for. Not sure it really makes a huge difference, but probably good to stick with what device you have.
Compiled some links (working on my own "guide"):

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358781 (GPe RUU zip files and instructions.)
Hope it helps.

100 percent personal preference. I *love* the sense 5.5 quick settings tiles, but also really like GPe.
Really tough decision for me on that one. Eventually went with GPE and an xposed-mod to change the default behavior of the tiles. (big fan of Advanced Reboot and Gravitybox xposed-mods)
I've gone back and forth so many times though that I've got it down to a 15 minute process. (Yeah, it's that bad...I can't stop....I need help...)
So I wrote a quick guide. Wanna test it? Let me know if it works/what steps I may be missing:
Prerequisites:
Must be Unlocked (HTCDev)
Must be S-OFF (Rumrunner / revone)
Windows 7 - Using WIndows 8 will mess you up. Don't do it.
(I should probably put the standard disclaimer here, but if they are unlocked and S-Off, well..their warranty is already voided, amirite?)
Download a modified HBOOT for your device here:
http://rumrunner.us/hboots/
Find the CID & MID info needed for your desired conversion here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2182823
(Example: Dev Edition - CID: HTC__001 and MID: PN0712000
Download the RUU file for your conversion here:
http://www.htc1guru.com/downloads/ruu-file-downloads/
Or if converting to GPE, from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358781
Now that you have everything you need:
Flash the modified HBOOT:
From bootloader/fastboot USB mode:
Code:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip hboot_rumrunner_<XXXYYYZZZ>.zip
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Change your CID/MID
Code:
fastboot oem writeCID xxxxxxxx
fastboot oem writemid PN07xxxxxx
Run the RUU executable ot (for GPe):
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip <name of GPe zipfile.zip>
RUU exe will reboot your device, GPe zip will require you to:
Code:
fastboot reboot
From here, any OTA's should be downloadable/flashable through the OS.

Yeppers. Well, for me anyway. Some folks reported better coverage/bars by flashing the T-Mob radio after, but...meh. Placebo.
Dev edition will actually be one step above your T-Mo edition since they are on 4.4 with Sense 5.5 already if I am not mistaken. I believe the Int'l edition is also on 4.4 and Sense 5.5. (blinkfeed can be disabled and the quick settings tiles can be changed/re-arranged)
