I have a Verizon Samsung Fascinate SCH-I500 that was soft bricked. I rooted it following droidstyle’s guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238070
and hhp_211’s guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2776089
and loaded CyanogenMod 10.1-20130723-Nightly and gapps -jb-20130812-signed.
The phone ran well and I thought everything was good but then I figured out the gapps didn’t load because I couldn’t find google apps on the phone.
I tried going into recovery & re-flashing the gapps, but I got these error messages, which I recalled getting originally but didn’t worry about.
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
Those errors are documented in this thread by iggyst00ge:

The solution for iggyst00ge, for which he was assisted by hhp_211, was to procure new copies of the files used in the process, go back to stock, and re-flash the rom. So I got new copies of the EHO3 Stock ROM, the Bootloader, and CWM4. I re-downloaded atlas_v2.2.pit. I also got new Samsung drivers (USB_Drivers_1.5.27.0.rar) per hpp_211’s suggestion, and installed those.
In trying to go back to stock & re-flashing the rom, I’m getting errors & Odin fails. I ran odin with the CI500_VZW_EH03_GB_CM.tar.md5 in PDA, without the pit and without re-partition checked and got these messages in odin:

@CatNado
After doing a little more searching I found this thread which has a few things you could try...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=984381&page=2
Simplest was to try with battery out
Another is to drain off any residual charge
"" remove the cable and battery for approximately 30 seconds and hold the power buttons to remove any leftover charge from capacitors. Reinsert the battery and put the phone back in download mode and plug it up and try again ""
Course you could try the variant of that without the battery...
The other is to try removing the .md5 from the file name and saving that to use in the pda slot
Hopefully those will get you going again.
No need to keep putting up multiple posts either,,, the fascinate forum is a ghost town and just simply doesn't get checked frequently, just be patient waiting for replies

Hey,
You might want to try a different PIT and MD5 file. You can find them here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=6356 (Thanks to hhp_211 for the link.) Good luck and tell me if this works.
Unable to make my own thread so jumping in here.
I am having an issue where I tried to do this videos description:
youtube watch?v=0JrqZwHXEmY
Which lists out 1.) Download Samsung drivers here (scroll down hit downloads tab and it will bring up drivers)
2.) Download Odin here:
3.) Download ClockWorkMod (cwm4 fixed for cm7)
Put these files on your SD card
4.) Download ICS (rom) Team hacksung
5.) Scroll down to CyanogenMod 9.x.x and download gapps file 20120429
Steps
1. Install drivers on PC. 2.) In phone go to settings, Applications, Development, check USB Debugging, 3.)Open Odin on pc. 4.) Take battery out, put phone into download mode by plugging in factory USB cable while holding down on volume button. 5.) Click PDA on Odin and open file "cwm4 fixed for cm7" and hit start on Odin. 6.) Let pass, unplug USB cable and boot into recovery by holding the power button and volume up and down at same time. Wait for Samsung logo to flash twice and let go. 7.) Wipe Data, cache partition, and Delvik cache under advanced. 8.) Install zip from SD card, choose zip from SD card and select Teamhacksung zip file. It will reboot.
To get Google play App reboot into recovery (DO NOT USE 3 finger method!), choose zip from SD card install the gapps file 20120429, and reboot. DO NOT WIPE ANY DATA OR CASH THIS TIME! If you have any questions leave me a comment and I will help you out. Thanks!!
After doing this. I only got as far as :
<ID:0/003> Added!!
<ID:0/003> Odin v.3 engine (ID:3)..
<ID:0/003> File analysis..
<ID:0/003> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/003> Initialzation..
Nothing after this, it's just staying there. So I closed Odin, and tried to turn my phone on. I got the Phone>Yellow Triangle>Computer. Tried looking through many forums and tried a few "fixes" but none worked. Last one I tried was this one:
youtube watch?v=08bd2FQfOn8
1.Open Odin then just minimize it you will come back.
*DO NOT change or alter any of the settings in Odin very important.
1. Put your phone into download mode. You can see how i did it in the video. Plug your data cable into your phone powered off. Hold the volume down button then plug your usb into your computer. When you see the yellow triangle let go off volume.
2 Things should happen now !
~ Your phone should be in download mode. Download mode looks like a yellow triangle with the android robot in the middle screen.
~ Odin should recognize your phone and you should see a yellow box appear in the ID:COM tab
2. Click on PDA button in Odin and navigate to the folder on your computer that the DI01package.tar file was downloaded to. Select the file when you find it.
3.Hit START
It will start doing all the work flashing everything. You won't have to do anything but just sit back. Odin will say DONE in green when the process is complete.
*make sure your phone stays plugged in throughout the entire process.
The process takes between 5-20 minutes just be patient. You will see the Verizon sign again when the phone boots up. There you go your Samsung Fascinate should now be restored !
Same thing:
<ID:0/003> Added!!
<ID:0/003> Odin v.3 engine (ID:3)..
<ID:0/003> File analysis..
<ID:0/003> Enter CS for MD5..
<ID:0/003> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<ID:0/003> Please wait..
<ID:0/003> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
<ID:0/003> Leave CS..
<ID:0/003> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/003> Initialzation..
And I am stuck there.
I was able to take the phone out and I was able to get into the boot menu. I could click on Factory reset etc. and it said it was doing it and I have tried to clear cache and data and it has said that it has done it. When I go to reboot though, its back to the Phone>Yellow Triangle>Computer symbol. And will not work again
I am unsure of what to do. This phone was never Rooted or anything, I had just tried to do it that first time and it didn't work or show any progress. I am unsure of what to do from here.
Same issue, exactly as OP
Same exact issue. How did you solve it?
Cannot flash the PIT file, and get the /cache/ errors, exactly as you do.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s-i9000/help/cache-error-t3269688
Posted in i9000, not realizing these were different phones.
Update: followed some advice to pull battery and cable for over 30 seconds and try again.
Tried with this PIT http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788522
Samsung_I500_VZW_PIT.zip
and CI500_VZW_EH03_GB_CM.tar.md5
and... get the /cache/ errors . ODIN doesn't flash the cache file, on reboot the /cache error appears as the rom has difficulty updating the phone.
[SOLVED]
THIS IS ONLY FOR THE FASCINATE/SHOWCASE/SCH-I500 or SCH-S950C.
THIS WILL NOT WORK IN THE I9000. In fact, flashing i9000 kernels (like Der Teufel / The Devil kernel, CAUSED THIS PROBLEM).
Fire up ODIN (I used ODIN 3.07 on Windows 10 (12/2015 patch level))
**Uncheck Auto-Reboot!! in ODIN before flashing.**
Use the PIT from EZbase (others might work)
and flash cwm4_fixed_for_cm7-ODIN.tar
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/fk25duo59iyn33g/AADm6xkLJCOiprqe37e4TOMia?dl=0
I put them on dropbox. Although you can find them in other threads/places. I did not keep track of where I found the copies, but I found them on 12/2015, so you should be able to also.
Unplug the phone and remove the battery. It will turn off.
Remove the SDCARD and put in http://download.cyanogenmod.com/get/jenkins/35557/cm-10.1-20130723-NIGHTLY-fascinatemtd.zip (the latest nightly CM10.1 Android 4.2.2x)
Boot up the phone by holding the Vol Up & the Vol Down key, and press Power until you see SAMSUNG, then release the Power button. It will boot up into a 4.0.1.0 recovery. YOU MAY STILL SEE A CACHE ERROR... IGNORE IT.
Choose the option to load a ZIP from the SDCARD.
Flash cm-10.1-20130723-NIGHTLY-fascinatemtd.zip
It will reboot into the newer recovery, then continue with the update.
You should be done now.
No more /cache/ mount errors, no more stl11 errors.
I found a quote at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1190668
"All Samsung Roms run on top of BML/RFS, CyanogenMod 7 does NOT.
It runs on MTD/yaffs2 (like Nexus One) which means you'll not able to flash just any kernel or run just any other filesystem you want. Use it as it is if possible, otherwise confirm with the kernel developer that you are trying to install whether it would work with CM. We do not support other kernels and know nothing about their capabilities or compatibility. Only the data partition, which is on movinand, is ext4 like on speedmod or voodoo ("lagfix"). No "lagfix" is necessary because this does not use any Samsung proprietary file systems."
IT RUNS ON MTD/yaffs2... etc etc, it's clear that this repartitions/reformats the device. A lot of the struggle I had for days, a week, was trying to set the PIT over with Heimdall or ODIN, and restoring to stock. Unfortunately once one of these i9000 type kernels or ROMs 'touch' your Fascinate, you can't go back to the stock, at least not from being stuck with the /cache/ mount errors. You *might* be able to go back after flashing the nightly Cyanogenmod linked above.

My problem is I need the Google Play Store App, and I can't find it on my phone. I've flashed 3 different gapps. The last gapps I flashed was what I think is the latest for CM 10: -jb-20130812-signed. When I go to https/play.google.com/store/ it won't let me download anything, says "You haven't accessed the Google Play Store app (the white shopping bag icon) on your device with this email account."
I'm a noob, so I need some coaching on this, but I don't know that I see any google apps on the phone. I have a Samsung Fascinate SCH-I500 running CyanogenMod 10.1-20130723-Nightly, Jellybean 4.2.2. It was my wife's old phone, and bricked. I rooted and flashed it following instructions on this forum. The phone is working well on Page Plus.
I have been able to sync it with gmail, but I want to add google calendar, and I can't download the calendar app because the play store says I need the google play store app.
I'm wondering:
1. Is it possible that the gapps aren't getting installed? I don't see any apps that I can identify as "google apps." What are these apps, and how can I verify they're installed?
2. Is it possible that 2103-08-12 gapps lacks the google play store app? Maybe the google play store app didn't exist at that time.
Help will be greatly appreciated.
Can anyone please point me to a good copy of the EH03 stock ROM?
Further research seems to indicate that there was a problem with my installation. I see the errors documented in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49284762&highlight=no+gapps+installed#post49284762
That is, the ROM flashed ok, but when I try to install gapps I see
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
So the gapps didn't actually install.
The OP's solution, for which he was assisted by hhp_211, was to procure new copies of the EHO3 Stock ROM, the Bootloader, and CWM4. I've been able to find the Bootloaders and CWM4 with md5sums that check out, but I can't find the EHO3 Stock ROM with a verifiable md5sum. One I can find doesn't extract from zip to a tar.md5 file. It is a tar. md5 folder, which doesn't seem right.
@CatNado
Just downloaded file again.
md5 checks out and unzipped properly to .tar.md5

Hi there guys...I've stumbled onto a problem that I can't fix myself, hence some of your help/expertise is required.
Here's what has happened sofar...
Yesterday a family member of mine lost her phone and asked me for my old SGS3 which was lying around the house.
So after factory resetting the device I gave the phone to her...but then the device got an OTA update...but after update, when the device went to reboot itself, the droid laid dead with a red triangle.
Note: the device was not rooted and was running Touchwiz etc...
Upon reboot, the device got stuck at the Samsung Galaxy SIII - GT-I9300 logo
Then she brought the device back to me and after some searching the web, it seemed that the diagnosis was that the software/firmware may have gotten corrupted.
I followed the TUT (link: here) using ODIN 3.10 , I flashed the International version of 4.3 on my device.
I got the I9300XXUGNJ2_I9300MSTGNJ1_MST file from Sammobile and it worked like a charm...all is well, so I thought.
Today when she turned the phone on in the morning, (she turns it off at night)...the device got stuck at the same place.
But now, even the TUT with ODIN isn't helping...now the whole thing is stuck at SetupConnection.
I have tried the cable, updating the samsung usb drivers, switching the USB ports (not using any USB hub),
making sure that I run the program in admin mode and that there's no ext card connected to the device...but to no avail.
When I hard reset the device I get the following error while the droid lays dead
Code:
E: failed to mount /cache (No such file or directory)
...etc...
Wiping the data/factory reset etc isn't helping either...as it still gives me similar E: failed error.
Rebooting the system gets me back to the stuck Samsung Galaxy SIII - GT-I9300 logo.
Plugging the device with the USB cable to the computer doesn't get me to the ext sd card etc either.
Any ideas?? Help is greatly appreciated.
*UPDATE*
After persisting to follow the TUT mentioned above, finally it went through ODIN and was shown as "PASS"
But when the device reboots after that, the "E: failed to mount error" persists...and I'm back to square one.

Sounds like partitions maybe corrupt try the resuce firmware here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30087735&postcount=6 << follow instructions exactly as it containes a pit file there are two versions and i think the pit file is in the 4.1.2 version. If this does not work then i think it would probably be a service repair.

Emmc chip is corrupt/damaged. Try reading the dead boot restore thread in general forum, but doubtful if worth repairing.
^^above, I was using the 4.1.2 firmware which I got from the thread that @tallman43 mentioned.
But as you can see I got the errors shown above.
Then I tried the same using the 4.3 firmware also from that thread but it had no *.pit file.
In that thread on page 41 though, @k-semler added the *.pit file that he used.
But that resulted in ODIN getting stuck at the .pit thing.
After renaming that *.pit file to mx.pit it worked...

I got some suggestions trying installing Philz Touch Recovery...
So here's what I did...
1. I flashed Philz Touch Recovery using ODIN
It was a pass...and I was able to boot into Philz Recovery.
2. Then I tried installing a Custom ROM (PA) through SD Card.
At first I was getting an error, after checking it seemed that I couldn't access the SD Card.
Then I got myself a new SD card, formatted it to fat32 and transferred the zip files onto it.
3. Installing the Custom ROM (PA)
At first I was getting a Status 7 error.
After editing the updater-script as shown on xda forums..the error went away.
BUT now the installation just aborts and I get the following on my screen.
Code:
Installing: /storage/sdcard1/pa_i9300-4,41-20140705.zip
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_install
E: failed to open last_install: File exists
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Installation aborted.
press any key to continue.
Note: I also tried with different ROMs (CM11) but same result as above.
Why can't it mount the /cache folder? Could it be a chmod issue??
The error in full from my first post is the following...
Code:
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_install
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_install
If it's corrupted then why is it listing only that folder and not other folders as well?
Help is really needed and is greatly appreciated guys/gals.
[SOLVED]
I finally got it working...my issue has been resolved.
For those who are interested, this is how I fixed the problem.
I went and got myself:
- stock *.pit file for the SGS3 GT-I9300 16GB variant.
- stock bootloader for SGS3 GT-I9300
- stock Firmware from my Region (Single File variant)
Step 1
Flash the stock *.pit file using ODIN with the following settings ticked on:
- auto reboot
- re-partition
- f.reset time
- Nand erase all
Note: IF for some reason it doesn't work, re-try and it should pass (I myself had to try 3 times).
Step 2
Flash Philz Touch Recovery using ODIN with the following settings ticked on:
- auto reboot
- f.reset time
Note: IF for some reason it doesn't work, re-try and it should pass.
Step 3
Take a Mirco SD card (format if needed, make sure you format it in fat32). Transfer the stock bootloader zip (no need to extract the .zip file) on it and insert the card in your phone.
Step 4
Press Vol.Up+Power+Menu button and keep pressing it until you see the Samsung Galaxy SIII GT-I9300 logo, then release the buttons and the Philz Recovery will boot.
Install the bootloader zip using the "Install from sdcard" option in Philz Touch Recovery.
Step 5
Reboot to recovery and wipe cache and factory reset.
Go to download screen (ODIN MODE).
Step 6
Flash the stock firmware using ODIN with only the following settings ticked on:
- auto reboot
-f.reset time
Note: IF for some reason it doesn't work, re-try and it should pass (I myself had to try 2 times).
Step 7
If all of this is done...then go to Recovery mode (you'll notice that it's no longer the Philz Touch Recovery. No problem, in the current Recovery mode:
- wipe cache
- factory reset
and reboot the device.
This should resolve the problem and your device will work once again.
No cellular due to wrong/fake imei
^^The above did fix my previous problem but I did encounter a new one.
I had a wrong/fake IMEI ("0049..."), which caused that I had no cell reception and couldn't use the phone to call or send/receive sms etc...
I googled a lot and I tried some of the TUT on the web, but nothing helped.
Until I found a thread on the xda that said one could try to flash a newer stock ROM (don't know the exact thread).
So I went ahead and checked the version I was on...luckily it was 4.0.4
I then downloaded a newer stock ROM 4.3 for my region.
And flashed that using ODIN...
and voila...when I checked the IMEI code again, it was back to the original one.
Files that I used to resolve my issues.
I've been asked which .pit file or which ROM etc...did I use to resolve my problem.
So here it is...but do keep in mind, these files may have worked for me but I can't guarantee that they'll work for you too.
Note: therefor use these at your own risk...I'm not responsible for any problems that you may encounter.
Philz Touch Recovery:
I got the "philz_touch_6.12.8-i9300.tar.md5" file from: here
Stock ROM:
I got the stock ROM (single file) "I9300XXUGNJ2_I9300PHNGNJ1_PHN.zip" from: here
That's the: GT-I9300 Netherlands 2014 November 4.3 I9300XXUGNJ2 I9300PHNGNJ1
The stock *.pit file and the stock bootloader that I used, are attached to this post.
The exact steps that I took are in this post: here
Note: Don't forget to backup your EFS, search on xda for how to do that etc...
Best of luck...
Hello guys, I need some serious help to get back my phone. I am noob in such things so pardon me if I did some stupid stuff.
I was tiring to upgrade my phone from Android v. 4.4.4 to v. 5.0.0 following "droidviews.com/update-att-galaxy-s4-sgh-i337-to-lollipop-and-keep-root/" this tutorial "Update AT&T Galaxy S4 to Lollipop and Keep Root" every thing was going smooth but my phone automatically reboot it stuck on Samsung boot logo I waited for around 30 to 40 mins but nothing happened.
As I told earlier that I am a newbie so only thing for me was to Hit and Try.
First I tried downloading same file Android v. 5.0.0 from some other source and repeated the process but no luck. Afterwards I start following some other tutorial to get back my phone, I tried Part. 2 and Part. 3 both from sammobile.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26464" this tutoria and I was having these errors:
Part 2: 4.4.4(Farsat Sagvan).zip file
Code:
Error Sideload package.zip status 7
Part 3: 5.0.1(Farsat+Sagvan).zip file
Code:
Signature verification failed
I didn't new how to solve "Error Sideload package.zip status 7" but for "Signature verification failed" I tried installing both CWM and TWRP using Odain but every time I tried installing it Odain throws FAIL message (tried couple of versions of Odain as well as CWM)
After failing each time here is the last thing what I tied "trueandroid.com/i337ucufmld-android-4-4-2-kitkat-firmware-on-att-galaxy-s4-sgh-i337-test-build-how-to-guide/" from this site
How To Install I337UCUFMLD Android 4.4.2 KitKat Using OneClick Executable

Goodmorning, I got myself in to a stupid problem.
I will sketch situation when it all started:
I had a SM-T555 (Galaxy Tab A) device which was managed by a MDM tool. As I deleted the device from the management console I couldn't use the option reset to factory resettings because the MDM blocked that option, also in the recovery mode I couldn't use the option. MDM did what it was supposed to be doing, atleast that's good. In the past I installed a custom rom on my Galaxy S3 so I thought let's flash a stock ROM on to my device maybe that will help.
So I flashed a ROM with succes via Odin (PDA option) with succes but it didn't solve my problem, being the newbie that I am I selected the option Nand Erase All thinking it would reset all my settings. Well that was atleast true but appearently it also deleted my Partition Information Table. Result: the device was in a soft brick and I couldn't boot it up anymore as it was stuck on the SAMSUNG logo.
After that I tried different forums and searches on the internet, on which I didn't find a lot. After a while I was kinda sure that I needed a PIT file because I tried flashing offical all in one firmware (T555XXU1A0J1_T555PHN1A0J1_PHN) via PDA which didn't solve my problem. After that I did a lot of searched for my PIT file of my device which I couldn't find anywhere.
After a while I found out I could extract a PIT file from the same model so I rooted an other device and extracted the PIT file from it (gave me false hope that I could fix it).
After that I tried to flash the PIT file via Odin 3.10.7 with the official firmware in the PDA option and the PIT file in the PIT section with the following options checked: Auto Reboot, Re-Partition and F. Reset Time, this generated an error on the device itself in RED: SECURE CHECK FAIL : PIT and in the odin software:

<ID:0/005> FAIL!
<ID:0/005>
<ID:0/005> Re-Partition operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
After that I tried to flash the firmware via the CSC file which it did succesfully and the log showed me some information about that is calling the PIT file or something from the ROM in the log. I hoped it would boot but it still will not boot!
I can't stand that I can't fix it! Could anyone please help me.

no help for me?
:crying:
Are you disconnecting the phone or waiting for it to completely finish? Maybe clean out the charge port?
I am not by any means able to correct the issue, but i've never seen a successful odin operation where the device is removed and then completed.
Good news is that it can still go into download mode. So it should not be too difficult to correct. I am assuming you're using latest Odin with the original usb cable and have tried with different ports.
Sometimes it may need a slightly older version of odin to work. You may even have to download the firmware again. Or take it to where you bought it...
But... DO NOT LAUNCH IT!

I suggest download the latest firmware for your phone try flashing it still don't work then try getting the pit file too and firmware and try both?
Since I screwed my s6 edge up as it was not mounting system and cache so I had to get latest firmware, pit file and then in odin tick re-partition and flash then it worked just went into recovery wiped cache and factory reset reboot and done

After PASS I disconnect usb, the Phone rebot - it appears android robot- erasing- logo edge -logo samsung,
but nothing done (I waited a long time)
Odin is 3.13.1 (I believe latest version), I have not tried other old versions because the procedure is Ok (Pass)

I'm a stubborn girl, I do not accept not to recover the phone..
I do not launch it, but the temptation is there
thanks for help

I'm trying with last firmware for edge (italy- ITV-nogaut7)
it was the first one I tried. and now is impossible using old firmware, cs.bin file no Pass in Odin...
Pit file i read is not necessary for stock firmware, but yesterday I also tried with Pit file (Zerolte eur open hidden60M)
the Odin procedure Pass, but after the phone not installing system ( but maybe I did not reset factory and cache..)
when it is in bootloop, enter in recovery is not easy, and when I go into recovery..I have to be quick to select otherwise the phone hangs...(even with twrp sometimes it crashes)
I do not understand if it's because the phone bootloop, or is the problem hardware (memory flash)
thank s
