Hi everyone,
I am a newbie of Android and I just bought a Samsung Galaxy S2 at the virgin mobile this morning.
I didn't realize it at first but when I got home I found some disappointing camera shots............
Instead of the red spot that people are talking about elsewhere, my pictures shows some yellowish spot at the middle under the auto white balance...........
I checked the back of the phone and it says it is made in Korea, does that make a difference? Would that be a software problem or a hardware problem. Is there anyway to fix the problem?
I like this phone a lot and I don't wanna exchange it because it has an awesome screen.........but if the yellowish spot is a hardware problem then I have no choice...............
Welcome to the club, but that seems more like green to me. I envy you for being special, everybody else has a pink spot
It depends on lighting and white balance, sometimes I get a pink spot, sometimes a green one, just choose a different setting and see which one gives you the best result

Thanks! but neither of them wouldn't be a "good result", I am just wondering if it is a software issue since I have no problem of taking black and white photos...........if it could be fixed with new firmware release then I can wait...........if not then I will just exchange for a new one.
I bought my SGS 2 (used by another person for about a year) a few weeks ago and I have noticed artifacts on the screen, the individual pixels are not lit evenly, creating patterns on solid color surfaces. It is visible mainly on grey background (blue works quite well too). Just try to move a medium grey patterned background around and you will probably notice it. I guess this is the SAMOLED+ deterioration... Also, try displaying a black picture in Gallery in a dark room. The pixels on the screen are lit slightly, but some are darker and they form "blotches".
If I had known about this issue, I would have bought a new SGS 2 and not a preowned one.
Have you experienced these issues too? Could you check this on your phone and report? Things to report:
How old is the phone?
What has been your usage pattern?
How bad are these screen issues?
Are you experiencing different problems with the screen?
Maybe we can find some trends and estimate the service life of SAMOLED +

You have proved that I am not insane xD I too have been seeing these lit up bloatches on the screen whilst on a black wallpaper.....
I've had my S2 for over 6 months. I've been using it everyday since then and maybe 6 hours screen time in total(daily). The screen issues are not bad at all..Tbh its only there if you really try to find it. And no I have no been experiencing any other issues.
Have a good day and good luck with your S2
Having played with my S III for a day now, I've been mighty impressed by the vibrancy and contrast of the screen, however, during the evening, when the lights were off, I couldn't help but notice something peculiar.
To be clear, I have no clear dead or stuck pixels and the issue occurs when the device is on, displaying a black screen (though I first noticed it in video playback that had black borders). I'm unable to capture a shot so I'll explain this as best I can.
When on a black screen, there is a faint glow, when looking closely, there are patches of very dark segments throughout the screen that are true black, as opposed to the general glow of the device.
Does anyone else experience this? Is it normal?
Many thanks
Do they look like black splotches that can only be seen when viewing a black screen.in the dark? That sounds like the same problem all vitas have, something that is unfortunately a side effect of oled screens. My current phone, a samsung wave, doesn't have this issue though I've read that some other phones like previous galaxy s models produce the same problems. Bummer if that's it since I hated it in the vita

Yup its on all amoled devices starting from sgs 2 but its less on some and more on others but still I don't think it hinders usage of the mobile
I have this too and find it quite annoying (even though you barely see it, only when displaying a black picture and in dark environment).
Would be interesting to know whether really all S3s have that.
Arg, curses! Yeah I didn't notice it on my SII which is why it was such a shock on the SIII. It's only noticeable in a pitch black room but sadly now I know it's there I fear I'm going to be picky
I hope it's not the same problem existed on all galaxy tab 7.7 models which you could see circles and spots on a dark background in a very dark room. My nexus s and sgs2 didn't have it but it was so annoying (for me) on tab 7.7 which I returned it and never got another one. Take a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1463622
I hope it's not on all models of sgs3,I'm planning to get the 64gb model...

Speculation and more speculation... for once I would enjoy if people posted some evidences when complaining about an issue with this phone..
had this uneven black and white patches in my sgs2. it didnt bothered me much frankly
I'm wondering if this is due d
To the difference between amoled plus and amoled(pentile)....pentile screens can look blotchy, more so than the amoled plus screen
From my nexus tappin the talk
<edit post successful>
What is so annoying about it ? I bet that no one is looking at a black screen for more than a few seconds in a completely dark environment.
Try this: light up a few pixels on the screen and tell me if you still see the patterns. I bet you don't! S2 has the same "problem" and the thing is that if you switch to landscape the patterns dissapear and re-align. I guess it's how the amoleds work.

If you check the pics in the thread I posted you can see many pics of the problem on tab 7.7. It needs a DSLR with good exposure abilities to make the problem viewable on a pic ( though it is noticeable with the eye in the aforementioned situation ). If the problem is as widespread as it was on tab 7.7 this thread will be explode with pictures and complaints. *fingers crossed* that's not gonna happen hopefully.

If the issue is as bad as it was on tab 7.7 it is noticeable on any "dark" background, not only completely black backgrounds, like when you're viewing a dark pic or during dark scenes in a video or movie, I could even notice it in TW Settings.

I can assure you, I have this problem on my sgs3. Will be difficult to "prove" though as making a picture of it should not be easy.
I have it too. Not too much but they are.

Same.. Noticed it last night in the dark. Did not have it on my s2. Guess i wasn't so lucky this time

so your exchanged model doesn't have this issue? See at least we can be sure that it's not effected all the models like it was on tab 7.7?

It's impossible to see in the light/day time.
You need a pitch black room, with screen test app turn to black screen,,,slowly the wriggly lines and patches will show up. It is annoying yes - 2 phones were exactly the same defects. Each phone had it's own wriggly lines etc.
Tried to take a picture but it's nearly impossible.
Hello, I own a i9100 and I have some burn-ins at the top of the screen that replicate some buttons of a browser or something, and some burn-ins at the bottom as well. I have read that leaving overnight an app that's constantly switching colours, with full brightness, could help a bit on that. I also read that leaving a blank screen (white image) on the same conditions (overnight, full brightness) would help as well. My question is, how true these both things are? I don't want to end with a bigger problem than the one I currently have. The burn-ins are most viewable at Blue, Red, and Black screen colors.(like if I put a background with one of those colors on it)
Never had any of these on my S2,but from my experience with the galaxy s plus, these tricks won't work.None will to be honest. It's permanent. This shows how immature amoled technology is.Learn to live with it or replace the screen if that bothers you much.
what a sign you got there...
Lucky you. Mine is not THAT noticeable if you're using it normally, but as soon as you open something with a plain color on it, the burn in shows itself on all its glory. So right now you can't tell if leaving the white image all the night or the thing switching colors will damage my screen more?
mwehehe
Well, back then when I tried every method you described above on my i9001,I didn't noticed any improvement nor any further damage.Even after running those for 10h+.So I assume it's safe. Can't say the same for the S2 though, have no problems with it.
Just bought a S3 weeks ago. I thought AMOLED display can go completely off when displaying just pure black . I tested it out with a full screen black picture. The display isn't going fully black it seemed like the display was ON with mild lighting. But the strange thing that I observed are some black spots(or random shapes) during this test. PLEASE REFER THE ATTACHED PICTURE TO GET A ROUGH IDEA OF WHAT I"M TRYING TO SAY. Is this showing something wrong about the display. What's your suggestion?
My suggestion is you search for the many other exact same posts before posting a new one, it's normal to see uneven black in low light.
