[Q] Any decent ROMS for Ascend Mate 2? - Huawei Ascend Mate 2

Are there any decent ROM's out there for an Ascend Mate 2 like OMNI Rom for instance?
I can't stand the bastardized version of Android on this device.

I dont think we have ANY other ROMs for this device yet. It's quite sad.... But if you root it, you can installed xposed and gravitybox and replace a lot of functionality that way. I'm quite happy with about a dozen tweaks I made.

No ROMs, at least not yet.
However, Huawei gave out 15 Mate 2's to developers at an (unofficial) Android event, so we still have yet to see what is happening, if anything will happen. We'll have to play the waiting game. Again.

[Q] MIUI ROM on MEDIAPAD ???

possible MIUI rom ported to MediaPad?
I see MIUI rom on Nexus 7 it's so cool... :crying:
miui nexus 7 ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1841208
I've never been a fan of miui roms, they look so much like iphone ui, and all those colored icons and layouts make the device look like a tablet for kids.
if it's even possible to port a rom to the mediapad i prefer something from samsung 7" tablets, the look of touchwiz is really special.
I don't think anyone is working on a MIUI rom. I personally wouldn't want to turn my tablet into a giant phone, since to my knowledge they haven't implemented a tablet UI yet. It seems like there aren't many developers working on ROMs for our device as it is, I say let them work on trying to get HDMI on Jelly Bean instead.
HTC sense from flyer would be great if someone port it

There's a very large library of themes to change the colored icons and menus. Even still, I don't think the default looks at all like the iPhone.
I have MIUI on my phone and absolutely love it. Menus, toggles, drop down/pop-ups are so much cleaner. Would be awesome to have on my tablet too.

Remember when cyanogenmod team brought life back to all our old phones? i was one of the lucky ones to get my HTC WILDFIRE supported by CM. at the same time MIUI pulled the middle finger and said F**K YOU!! we only develop for the the powerul devices.
what's the point of an after-market ROM when it dosn't support devices with few features.
after all, we are still stuck with two CM and AOKP ROMs that are not qualified enough to be used daily! how can we now start on MIUI?
it's useless
i'm sorry but that's the truth :crying: and i'm sad as F**K seeing all other devices on xda having tens of working ROMs.
we need more developers. i'm not one, but i help testing and do all my best to get something working.
huawei published all ics sources long time ago. It doesn't seems that's not helping, we already have an unlocked bootloader by default... pointless complaint imho, we only need interested developers

From my understanding, the T-Mo springboard is a redone Huawei Mediapad. The Springboard here has a very very small userbase, however the mediapad in China (from what I understand) has a much larger base. Given that MIUI is developed in China... I would think that the tablet might get some attention.

Huawei T1 8 Pro - A way to confuse people and put my 2 cents

US..ONLY..So after an extensive research ...I bought the biggest Smartphone I can get...An 8 inch screen phone with a good battery life. For starters, here is what I found out...
Huawei has several models that are very confusing and even their customer service were not that much informative. models I have encountered are the following:
Huawei T1 8 Pro Honor - 823 L - 2 GB RAM and 16 GB Storage (Limited Bands for LTE but 4G speeds were fast enough for my use, got it from ebay)
Huawei T1 8 Pro Honor - 821 L - 1 GB RAM and 8 GB or 16 GB Storage options (More bands for LTE but 1 GB of RAM only)
Huawei T1 8 Pro Honor - 821 W - 1 GB RAM and 16 GB storage option (I think the W stands for WIFI...this I cannot confirm)
Huawei T1 8 Pro Mediapad - 2 GB RAM and 16 GB Storage from gethuawei website...out of stock as of this writing)
Huawei T1 8 Mediapad - 1 GB RAM and 16 GB Storage
This one has 4.4 for Android OS...I do not know if http://forum.xda-developers.com/hua...ot-huawei-mediapad-t1-8-0-pro-lte-t1-t3262608
has found a way to upgrade to Lollipop and remove bloatwares.
personally, the hardware is decent and battery life is great. I used it for 1 day and end fo the day still had 50% of battery life. I do need to have big pants though. Is there anyone trying to develop an updated OS for this system?

Nope nobody is developing anything to this device... Not even Huawei I guess... BTW after root bloatware can be easily removed...
Too bad...

Too Bad, this is a good device and the battery life is good for a phone with an 8 inch screen. It is also good for those who have problems with vision and not wanting to be bringing 2 devices for travels.
I may have to learn programming to see if I can update this...
I have the MediaPad T1 8.0 Pro and it has the best radio/modem for T-Mobile coverage. It even covers their HSPDA+ 750 MhZ band which only a few phones cover; this is the band that T-Mobile calls the "building buster" for its ability to penetrate most buildings. So yeah for all that.. I'm now waiting for an 8-inch phablet that's octo-core and features Lollipop or Marshmallow. So far I have been unable to find one..
So which one of the above did you get? 823L, 821L, or the one from Gethuawei website?...i m like you impressed with the build but needs a pure Android OS to maximize it's potential.
A have the pro8 t1-821L its rootable and bloatware can be removed this way I have also unlocked the bootloader but there is no custom recovery or ROM which is a damn shame because it's nice bit of kit a can watch movies all night long on it and still not need to charge it also am not locked to EE either so if any devs r reading this post please help this phablet out? cheers
Agree

I would have wanted the 821L also but there were no 2GB available anywhere. Only 1 GB. But even with my 823L and connecting at 4G, the speed is negligible in our area which is Central Florida. I get to watch Netflix, and Youtube also with not much lag. And I do not have to squint from a small screen. Agree, also that if anyone can build a custom ROM that's plain Android Lolllipop would be nice.
Would a T1 8 Cutom ROM work for the T1 8 Pro?

The page you linked is not good. The download links are there just to make you send money. Currently there are no custom recovery for huawei t1 8.0 neither to t1 8.0 pro without that installing custom roms are not really convenient. And also I wasn't able to find any custom rom especially on XDA, so I'm pretty sure thereare no "hints" on xda as the page says....
Huawei MediaPad T1 8.0 Pro GSM Unlocked 4G LTE US
Yes I do agree with everyone here. It is a very great device and a lot of bang for your buck plus more. The great thing about it is that you can basically make it however you want it. I manually updated mine to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Which took some time because Huawei is a very new brand and I had to get used to there EmotionUI. Which didn't take long because its Android too. Just without the app drawer. So its kind of ahead because Android N is going that direction from what I hear. Also after rooting and installing BusyBox I tried to install xPosed. But the Huawei device wouldn't take it because they already have there own framework. So I started to tinker more with it and found out that yes indeed they have framework already. That's why it reads a message error when trying to install xPosed and it says something about xPosed not being compatible. I believe it has something to do with their EmotionUI. Not sure though because that's my first Huawei experience. The device is really solid though. Resolution can be tweaked and the display looks so gorgeous then. Values for everything can be tweaked to make the OS run liquid smooth and fast with very little noticeable lag or hiccups. Also the volume values can change as well giving it a more premium sound. Camera resolution was turned up along with high quality pictures. So the pics stayed sharp looking. Also when some values are entered it gives the gaming experience so much more life through the CPU and the GPU. Rendering gets way better too. Also changing the data values gives it more LTE speed too. Along with other values that make the browser loading times instantly. Even when being on the mobile data network seems like you would be connected to WiFi. It saves a lot of data too. And the battery is amazing. I'm trying to remember what other tweaks worked perfect for it and it ran with no problems. Oh yes it can multi task with up to four things going on. I got the app where you can, watch YouTube and Google something. And watch something on eBay all in different windows at the same time. It got warm but handles it very well. You should overclock it and have the battery set on smart mode. Oh yes and change the font. I had Disney font on it and went to a more modern font look. I'll let y'all know what else I did if I can think of anymore things. Just reply I will come back to this forum. It is my most favorite device of all at the moment. And Huawei is so new too.

Can we use a T1 10 Pro Rom for this device? Any of our XDA programmers chime in...?
So I just bought a Huawei ascend mate 7... finished using the tablet phone as I am almost done with my school... It was a nice piece of hardware and convenient in not having to bring two devices... But now I need mobility so I will be selling this one soon on eBay. If only it had a good following to install a updated os ....

Will Project Treble support create an active dev scene for the Mate 10?

This is my first Huawei phone, and I've been hearing that Huawei phones typically don't see a lot of dev support. Can we expect the Mate 10 to do better now that interest in Treble is picking up?
I wish a lot of developers would give more support to huawei phones, because they are really good and mate 10 broke records in sales, so a lot of people would become interested in root, twrp and customs roms, mods... etc.
I don't know how to encourage developers ! all i know is to wish for good luck !
I agree, being able to run stable stock Android on the Mate 10 would be incredible
i hope the same, i have studied that the phones with oreo out of the box can actually benefit from the project treble. then it will be like installing windows on different laptops without worrying much about the hardware feels really good the even think of such possibility
If the camera blobs work correctly, AOSP will be amazing.

I think the Mi 8 Lite is not so popular, so the developments seen here appears at a very low rate. I love my Mi 8 Lite, but I think it does not have the required "development-strenght" I would like.

Thanks for the comment!
I don't know why this device is not so popular like redmi note 5 pro. it has all the best things in a affordable price. But number of official ROMs are not bad either.
It took my current device (redmi 4 prime) about 1 year to get its first official ROM, so I think Mi 8 lite is doing kinda good here.
BTW I'm probably getting this device in 2-3 days. It's Mi 8 lite or redmi note 6 pro. Still not quite sure :/

I think devel is actually quite good. Well, with the exception that 2 or 3 devs are releasing all the available ROMs. That actually means that support for a single ROM is not that great, usually taking days until the dev replies, if at all. In my case, never. Something else that makes this phone very difficult to support, is the fact that individual ROMs are closely reliant on the firmware installed. Many ROMs require a specific firmware version. Most users are totally obvious to this. Look how many users have posted they cannot dial, or no sound, simply because they didn't update their firmware. To me, this is not a good road to go down and honestly makes MIUI a bad choice.
However, I love to fix and compile things, so my phone works great and this is probably the best and fastest phone I have ever owned, included all my previous Samsungs.. I plan on purchasing the top of the line Mi 9 in the next month or so and selling this one., but I do love it!

Uh, so just not installing latest firmware causes all these weird issue that people have :|
I hope devs deal with this weird situation and keep the development alive.
All I want from a phone is active community here on xda and also good battery life.
Guess I should double check my options in this price range so I don't regret it in future
BTW congrats on soon to come Mi 9. It's a beast

This phone is doesn't need a custom ROM to be awesome. Even stock rooted, this phone still rocks! Now that the kernel source is out there, hopefully things will get much better regarding custom ROMs.

Yeah it has Pie which is latest till now and I guess Android Q will come by Xiaomi. This phone specs are too good to not get
I read a few comments above that this device is not very popular and does not have sufficient support from the developers, I came from the Zenfone 3 zoom and it was a year of terror.

Why is there so little ROM development for the MTK variant???

I am genuinely dissapointed in how little development the mediatek variant has gotten since the past 5 years.
I remember back when there was only one AOSP ROM in the MTK development forum, while the snapdragon variant was churning out new ROMs every minute. The last time I checked was 2018, and it had gained a few more ROMs but they were riddled with bugs.
Today, nearly 4 years later, I come back to the MTK development forum expecting to see lots of Android 10 ROMs, maybe even Android 11 ROMs, and if not, then Android 9 ROMs at the very least.
Still no ROMs.
It's exactly like how I remembered. Completely barren, like a ghost town. Not even updates to the old ROMs. How come? I'm pretty sure it's not that hard? Helios X20 should be no problem for ROM development. Man, even during a time like the pandemic there is still no development.
This is truly sad. The MTK variant is much more faster than the SD265 variant so I am dissapointed to see so little development for it. I hope to see that maybe 2022 someone will finally develop new ROMs for the people who still have the phone.
