Well I decided to try and install KitKat on my Galaxy Player, I have transferred all of my Galaxy Player stuff (Superoneclick, Odin, my personal restore package, individual partitions, etc.) from my old computer (running Windows XP) to my new one (running Windows 8.1). When I plugged my SGP 4.0 into my new computer, it installed some drivers. The drivers allow my computer recognize my SGP 4.0 in ADB and in Odin, but only when the device is booted normally, not in recovery or in download mode. I was wondering do I need some different drivers in order for Odin to interact with my device while it is in download mode so I can fix it if something goes wrong.
get the driver package from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2038555

In order to get ODIN running for rooting I tried installing Kies under Windows. I tried two VMware sessions on my Mac : On both occasions I used the original cable and turned USB debugging OFF (required for Kies). I assigned the USB port to the VMware session of course.
Windows XP SP3 : It did install normally but drivers install of Samsumg MTP device failed
Installing went OK.
Windows 7: Same problem and Kies appeared in a red window.
On the Mac native (OSX 10.7) Kies installed and connected normally, but cannot use it for rooting as ODIN is for Windows only.
Adre these device drivers really required for ODIN ?
i think u need the drivers. forget kies. just download the samsung drivers and install them. u have to put the phone into download mode to install firmware via odin -> VOL_Down+Home+Power
the drivers u will get here (will work for sgs2 too):
64bit Windows (all versions): http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
32bit Windows (all versions): http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x86.shtml
Yea it doesn't work on Mac. Got 10.7 running here too, but I only flash through my CWM directly now. When I need odin, I just use my mom's laptop.
Hope not too late, here's the link for downloading Odin, Kies, Kies3, Smart Switch, and all needed drivers for Samsung phones: http://www.droidviews.com/android-usb-drivers-samsung-motorola-sony-lg-zte-htc-asus-huawei-acer/ Thank me if this helped
I have read through every thread here on brick recover, and none addresses my specific problem.
I have a Verizon LTE Tab.
I installed Rom Manager and flashed Clockwork recovery. As everyone now knows, this bricked the tab.
I have found instructions in various places for flashing a new recovery through Odin3. However, I cannot get my tablet to connect to my PC. I put it in Downloading mode and connect it to my computer. At that point, the computer starts automatically installing drivers because it thinks the tablet is a Samsung CMDA modem. I cannot force it to install the correct drivers, I cannot update the drivers, and I cannot manually add the hardware.
Thus, although Odin3 recognizes a connection, it gets stuck at SetupConnection every time I try to flash a new recovery to it.
Any suggestions? Please help!
I had the same problem with my laptop + my home desktop. I cannot get either of them to recognize my tab. Fortunately for me, my work PC does. I have no idea what the difference is. They are all running Windows 7 Pro 64bit.
For some reason when i connect my GS2 to my computer (running xp) it wont give me the options to make it a mass storage device but when i use it on my laptop (running Windows 7) it works fine any ideas why and i ahve debugging on as well please help
you probably don't have the drivers installed on your PC - does the computer recognize the phone at all? if not, download samsung kies, and this should give you the appropriate drivers. alternatively, go on samsung's website and search for the appropriate drivers for the i777.
I'm having this similar issue but on Windows 7. I've already installed correct drivers and Samsung Kies. This issue began after I rooted my phone. I plug in my phone and my computer makes the device recognition sound. My phone is recognized in device manager as Samsung mobile usb composite device and my phone isn't in debug mode and doesn't give me the option for usb storage. I want to flash a rom into my phone but can't because I can't get into the internal sdcard. Any suggestions?
Try downloading pdanet on your computer. Then plug in your phone again. I had this problem and that fixed it for me.
How to advise new users to install USB drivers for SGH-I777 on their computer.
I'm thinking that installing Kies Mini is not easiest or best.
Looking for all the options, and opinions as to which is easiest and best.
Thanks.
In personal experience assisting people with their phones not installing properly, people plug their phone in before running any software to install the divers.
I've never had any trouble installing a phone when software is run *before* the phone is ever plugged in to the computer.

The only problem I had was when connecting my phone in download mode for the first time, when my computer failed to install the drivers and couldn't recognize the device (despite having recognized the phone in USB Mass Storage mode previously without my doing anything). My solution was to install Samsung Kies before trying again, which allowed my computer to find the right drivers and install them automatically upon reconnecting the phone. Very easy to do, just need to provide new users with a link to the download site (not enough posts so I can't link it, but it's the first hit upon Googling "Samsung Kies").
Search for:
SAMSUNG USB Drivers for Mobile Phones - Latest Version is v1.4.8.0
and:
Samsung PC Studio 7.2.24.9 (Not sure if this is the latest version)
Uninstall all previous versions of samsung software, drivers, kies, EVERYTHING.
Install both, reboot and plug your phone in and see if it works. ADB wouldn't work until I installed PC Studio. In shell see if "adb devices" shows anything.
Kies is crap and a waste of HDD space.

Odin 4.28 does not map my Galaxy i5500, I have installed latest Samsung drivers but it just doesn't map the device, What should I do? is there another way to install CWM Recovery?
Thanks
Edit:
1. The problem seemed to be the Windows, in Windows 7 with Kies installed it downloaded some drivers updates from MS servers for the smartphone and for ODIN when I connected the phone in Downloading mode, after that ODIN could detect the device.
2. Thanks clustered, I could install an up to date CWM.
