Huge WiFi battery drain after update - Sprint LG G3

I recently moved and set up my WiFi at my new home but I also received the new update rolled out by Sprint during the same time. Ever since, whenever I am on my home's WiFi, my phone gets really warm and the battery drains like crazy. I am not sure if my home WiFi settings are causing this or my phone. Any suggestions?

What is Causing Some Folks to Have Truly Horrible Battery Life?

Because Im seriously curious... This phone has a rap of being "atrocious" in terms of battery life... Now I'm not making this post to be mean or anything, In fact I really do want to know what IS causing it or some theories.. and share one theory I have
But my personal experience really says otherwise, Tonight I set a new "record" on my One X+, 16 hours 28 minutes with 2 hours 43 minutes screen on time... And I didnt do anything "extreme" to achieve it, My Google Now is on, my location services are on, autosync is enabled.. About the only thing I have done is install JuiceDefender (My previous record without Juice Defender was about 15-something hours) I watched youtube videos, Read some websites, listened to music, and even played some games... I'm completely stock, no roms or anything
Now, I will note, I had a problem the other day where my battery killed itself, FAST.. After a bit of digging around and tweaking, I discovered the cause was that my One X+ wasnt entering Deep Sleep, and thus the processor was staying at 475mhz or so even when the screen was locked (Causing the battery to be drained like i was using it) What caused this? My Wi-Fi, of all things, While I had a really good signal, I had it prioritizing the 5.8ghz radio, and in my room, the 5.8ghz signal is fairly weak as im a ways from my router... so the phone was switching between it and the 2.4ghz signal, causing the phone to be unable to sleep, Removing the 5.8ghz AP from my phone fixed the issue completely and my phone returned to "normal" behavior...
Yeah i know it sounds really farfetched and weird, and took me a bit of googling to get the idea that this might be what was causing my issue (I tested my hypothesis by turning Wi-Fi off completely and using Cell data, Sure enough my phone slept like a baby and barely used any battery.. i flipped Wi-Fi on and suddenly the phone was drinking its battery down rapidly.. I disabled the 5.8ghz AP and suddenly the phone worked 100% properly again)
I suspect that this is the cause behind some folks who are saying their phone is draining down 7% in 20 minutes with it locked, Its simply not entering deep sleep, the processor is doing something in the background... Could some of them be having the problem i just described? Its possible, Especially if you have multiple Wi-Fi points in your house.. Could the wi-fi in the One X+ be bugged? I dunno, Thats possible to, Thats why I'm posting this...
Now of course some people need a phone that is going to go for 2-3 days without a charge, and no, this isnt the phone for you (There arent many smartphones out there that can manage that if you actually USE it any) But really.. 16 hours with 3 hours of screen on time is pretty darn good.. Thats getting quite close to my Galaxy Nexus with a 3500mah Extended Battery (Around 18h standby, 3.5-4 hours screen on) despite all of the "handicaps" the One X+ has over the simple GNex (Like LTE and a Quad Core processor) and is vastly better than my stock Galaxy Nexus battery which died constantly...
And yes, heres a screenshot as proof if you dont believe me...
I just want to add that I find that googlenow also drains the battery and as such I always disable it. It was a problem on my S2 and thus I have disabled it on my HOX+
Honestly, mine wasn't lasting longer than 8 hours until I rooted it and simply "froze" all of the AT&T apps I wasn't using. That alone gave me an extra 2-3 hours a day of battery life! (I've read here that the AT&T apps, even if you aren't using them, keep running in the background) The other thing that seems to help is an app called Smart WiFi toggler that's done wonders for both myself and everyone else I know who uses it in terms of minimizing WiFi battery usage.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sebouh00.smartwifitoggler&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5zZWJvdWgwMC5zbWFydHdpZml0b2dnbGVyIl0.
I'm sure other folks have other tips, but this has been the winning combo for me.
I should add that i also froze every ATT app i could and never opened ANY of them.. So maybe thats part of it as well..
JuiceDefender i believe is doing something similar for me with the Wi-Fi by turning it off when its not needed...
My battery life was terrible when I first got this phone. I let it charge out completely once this month and I've been using LBE Security Master. Those two things have greatly extended my battery so much I have been able to go more than a day with it before charging. Another factor might be that my phone isn't carrier branded or anything.
The "My Wi-Fi isnt letting my phone enter deep sleep" thing is actually starting to get annoying, I thought i fixed it but it keeps coming back...and yes, it is legitimately killing my battery at twice the normal rate because the phone will -not- enter deep sleep
My phone goes into deep sleep just fine if i turn Wi-Fi off...and my battery drain returns to normal....So it cant be some app downloading stuff or constantly pinging the internet or else it would do the same thing when im on LTE...
Also i've reset the "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" option to never 20 times now, it keeps going back to "always" on me...
Ideas?
My battery life is ok. See here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2067143
Mine is too, Provided i turn Wi-Fi off or i get the bug to go away for a bit (basically toggling wi-fi on and off a few times and twiddling with the settings makes it work right, but the problem comes back minutes or hours later)
Otherwise, Wi-Fi wont let my phone enter deep sleep, and my battery drains like im using it..
The thing thats annoying me more is that the "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" setting will not stay where i set it and keeps going back to the default setting....
I guess i can just toggle wi-fi on and off manually...

[Q] Has anyone experienced -worse- battery life since updating to portico? Lumia 920

I could have my phone off the charger for 4 hours and still show 100% even in 4g areas before updating to portico, and use it reasonably heavy and still easily get through a day, now I'm lucky to have 30% after 12 hours.

I dont use NFC, Wifi is not set to always on, mobile network is always on, however, before updating it was also.
nfc off, wifi and BT on all day. experiencing improved battery life since portico update.

Thought I'd better update - I did a complete discharge and recharge of the battery since I had found worse battery, and yeh, now I think it is better than pre-portico.
I have found mine to be inconsistent. I'm going to try a complete drain today at work and see if it helps. I turned on NFC and opened Nokia Drive+. That should kill it pretty quickly.
I've found battery life has goon from very good to horrific since updating to Portico. I used to get through a day at work (not a massive amount of usage and in 4G network area) and have about 40-50% battery left when I got home (charge overnight). Now I'm finding it's already in battery saver mode by 2pm in the afternoon.
I flashed the portico update onto the phone as it bricked about a week ago after I tried to hard reset (was having wifi problems that turned out to be unrelated to the phone!). But I flashed the EE rom, so it's got exactly what it would have had if it had been updated normally. All the settings are the same as I've always had them, same apps installed, and same usage, so not happy that the battery life has suddenly gone from strong to chronically awful.
look at this thread, towards the end are my findings.

My battery life is still awesome.. I still only charge my phone every other day. everything is turned on (NFC, LTE, Bluetooth, always on WiFi) and the brightness is set to Auto with sunlight readability on and high touch sensitivity.
I got 15% drop during night !!! (not use)
Better battery life for me, no issues at all!

[Q] Huge battery drain on use has started last week. [Kinda Solved]

Hello everyone, I'm using Motorola Atrix with Epinter CM10 4.1 ROM for last 2 months, I was very happy with battery life. Phone wasn't getting hot and with normal usage, even with 3G on (in my country only options are 2G and 3G), I could get %40 of battery end of the day. But for no reason, phone has started to get hot (only 2G on) and drains battery really quickly for last 1 week. I can't even get %5 battery left from morning to evening now. I didn't change anything, only installed Adobe Flash 11.1, then I deleted it but nothing has changed. Phone gets into deep sleep no problem with that, no background apps. I did a virus scan both on phone and from computer, both came out clean. I reinstalled rom. Nothing. I'm gonna crash my phone against wall it's really annoying. I think I'm gonna do factory wipe and reinstall rom again.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Do you leave wifi switched on at all times?
I use MIUI on my Atrix (partially based on epinter's work, I believe? Correct me if I'm wrong), but I have found that the phone suddenly starts staying awake for no apparent reason a while (often a couple of days) after I've left wifi switched on. This obviously causes bad battery drain. I can usually get the phone to sleep again by rebooting with wifi switched off (I think) and a battery pull is invariably required.
I now just switch on wifi when I have large files to download then turn it off straight afterwards.
Not sure if it is the same issue or not, but Better Battery Stats (which can be downloaded on xda) indicated the Rilj process was stopping the phone from sleeping when this problem occurred. It is worth trying this app to see if it gives any indication what is causing your battery drain.

No I switch between mobile data and wifi. Thank you for your suggestions and opinions but I really don't think my problem is about sleep. It started to get hot and drain when I actually use the phone. For example, I was checking Twitter for 10 min. with 3G and battery was dropping %1. Now it drops %5 with 2G on and gets really hot like 35-37 Celsius degree. I'm using Watchdog to oversee processes and nothing is working without my knowledge on background.
Hi,
I have the same problem on the nottachtrix roms since the last 2 weeks, I tried switching to epinter cm10 with no luck. Ordered a new battery to check if the battery is dead or if the atrix is faulty
if you find a fix, please post it here

install gsam battery monitor to see your phone's awake time. this drain happens to me also when i listen to music or take a photo. something with mediaserver keeps the phone awake and then only thing to do is kill mediaserver or a reboot.
Regardless of which other apps you are using to monitor app and process usage, I'd recommend trying Better Battery Stats as this is much more detailed and low-level than other apps I've encountered.
It's a free download for xda members:

Little update.
I turned back to factory settings, then did a full wipe, cache wipe, dalvik wipe. I was so annoyed I even did system wipe manually from advanced options in recovery. I reinstalled Epinter CM10 rom, got my apps back thanks to Titanium Backup. Installed GSAM (thanks to saldirai), downloaded SetCpu and chose Nvidia Tegra 2 T20/AP20H, underclocked to 912 mhz. Couldn't done any undervolting sadly, says something about governor.
Now I'm checking battery stats and temperature by GSAM, so far no complaints and better from yesterday BUT I haven't use my phone heavily yet. Temperature changes between 26-31 Celsius degrees, battery drops %1-2 percent on use -also it needs calibration- with only wifi use which is always on. I'll update this post if anything changes.
Update: I think I've found the problem. When I choose The Weather Channel widget to "use my location" phone immediately starts to get warm. Weird point is, this wasn't an issue before. Apart from that I'm playing New Star Soccer and Carmageddon for 3-4 hours with wi-fi full time on and battery drops to %30. I'm really happy about that. Normal battery temperature is about 25-32 during the day and different from before it quickly gets cold after I stop playing games. Just like before.

IPService Killing Battery?

Hey does anyone know what IPService is or does? My battery seems to be draining pretty quickly on my One. When I look at app sucker on gsam battery monitor, it shows that the #1 drainer is IPService with 17.8%. Keep Awake is 11.5 hours and 27 minutes of CPU usage. Any ideas?
After IPService killing my battery for a few days, today it's not the problem. Now the kernel is Showing keep awake at 45 minutes after five hours of just sitting. I would just like my battery to make it through the day haha.
i had the same issue. im pretty sure thats part of the wifi calling. i noticed it more when i changed the wifi calling to cellular network preferred. set it back to wifi preferred and got my great battery life back. i'd rather have it on cel preferred because ive been getting text messages hung up till i take it off wifi and that seemed to work. but i'll take the battery life over missing a few texts here and there.

How long battery life do you guys have??
My Tmobile HTC one can only last like 15hrs max, with text messaging and some social chatting tool like whatsapp and wechat!
I also had ipservices drain my battery.
Turning of Google Now, since I don't use it really, fixed it.
I have had Wifi Calling set to Cellular Preffered the whole time as it will drop a call when wifi is weak.

[Q] How to max the battery life ?

Well i just got the LG G3 and am using it on GSM.
prior to using i rooted ,TWRP and loaded jasmine 4.0 , also put in skydragon kernel 2.9.4 s 3.0 had crazy boot times.
I am trying to get the max out of the phone what ive noticed is that the phone just doesn't wanna deep sleep.
I have greenify , xposed (amplify) and noticed the issue of battery being drained when idle , i went to sleep and saw it was at 50% , woke up to 10% battery, my older phones never dropped more than 2% overnight,
To investigate loaded BBS and wakelock detector , nothing that pops up out of the ordinary
So my question is what do you guys do to max the battery outta this , what can i do ? i dont really see any apps causing it to wakeup . suggestions or any would be appreciated
any other stock rom also if you could suggest for battery life ? ive heard good about cloudy 1.2 as well.
I have really gotten great battery life out of sky dragon along with the 3.0.2 SD kernel (kernel is in the orig Dev section). Along with amplify ad greenify.
Sent from my LG-VS985 using XDA Free mobile app

Are you connected to WiFi when your phone won't deep sleep?
I work from home, so my phone spends 90% of its time on WiFi - I was getting terrible battery drain and only 50% deep sleep on a good day. One day, I left the house and noticed great battery life and plenty of deep sleep on a 4G connection (which is the opposite of what I expected).
After trying nearly everything, I discovered the fix was as a simple as turning on the "Battery Saving for WiFi" setting under Settings -> Wi-Fi -> Advanced Wi-Fi". I've been getting great battery life and deep sleep times when I'm at home now.
Give it a shot and see if it solves your issue.
Also, ever since daylight savings time went into effect, I noticed both my phone and my wife's phone keep randomly changing time zone for no reason. Looks like the phone is struggling to automatically detect the time zone from the carrier and causing battery drain as a result. I disabled the setting to automatically detect the time zone (and manually set it for PDT) and the battery drain stopped on both of our devices. Could be unique to my area but may be something to try as well.

I thought the same as well which is why I discounted this as being a cause for 4 months....I have 15 other android devices and none have exhibited this behavior so I was surprised that such a trivial setting could have had this impact.
To answer your question, I am currently running:
- BeanTowns stock 11B ROM
- SkyDragon 2.9.7 kernel
- Xposed installed with Disabled Services running
- Selected stock apps/services disabled
I don't use greenify/amplify (don't see the need as my average daily drop is anywhere from 1.6% - 2.4%/hour with moderate use).
