Good morning everyone.
Got an issue maybe some of the experts can help me on. I have had my Sprint LG G3 for about 6 weeks now. Loving it so far after rooting it and tweaking it with FauxClock and G3Tweaks. I am having inconsistent charging times and currents. I was using an HP Touchpad adapter (2.1 A) and a Monoprice USB cable, and it was giving me about 2 - 2.5 hours charging time with about 1.8 A flowing in. That dropped to about 500-700 mA recently.
I recently tried the LG charger and cable and got about 1.5 A flowing in the first time. Last night, it dropped to about 500-700 mA as well, giving me a charge time of almost 3.5 hours.
I have a feeling it might be the Battery settings in FauxClock, but I have fiddled around with that but can't seem to get anything to stick.
Anyone have any insight or know what to change in FauxClock to get a full current going into the phone? Thanks!

So, was tired of my original battery dying on me halfway through my work day on a full charge and after several calls with Verizon got sent the extended battery which I do like. Problem I'm now running into is the dang thing is always taking forever to charge.
Last night I plugged it in to charge. It was at 26%. I woke up after 5 hours charging and it's at 60%. So I bring my charger to work and after another 6 hours it's barely up to 85%. I mean wtf?!?! That's nearing 11 hours just to charge 60% of the dang battery! Anyone got any ideas how to resolve this? I'm. Currently running das bamf 2.1 with urban theme and the imoseyon3.01 kernal. I've cut back on any and every battery eating service like wifi, GPS, animations, static wallpaper etc... Would really appreciate any ideas anyone has on this! Thanks

Das bamf 2.1 is gb right? Gb roms charge slow unfortunately :/

I'm running BAMF Sense 3.0 and getting exceptional battery life. You should not be having issues like that.
Have you tried different chargers? My stepsister had this exact problem but she kept insisting it wasn't the charger. After wiping her phone and buying her a new battery, she says "oh you were right it was the charger." She changed the charger and it went away.
Your situation sounds exactly like hers although it's likely it could be another cause. I'll let the experts help you but I wanted to share that little tidbit, I spent a day changing settings and uninstalling programs and such, and bought her a brand new battery only to finally have her admit she must have been confused about which chargers were doing it.
With the correct kernels, the BAMF Sense 3.0 rom is charging faster than mine was doing stock. The statement above was correct in earlier kernels but has since been corrected. I don't know about 2.1, but since you're running a custom rom already I highly recommend the MR2 radio and BAMF with sense 3.0. I'm using RC3 but RC4 is rumored to be getting close, although I have no concrete information.
Interesting
.. it might just be the charger because I'm using the one that came with the phone but I noticed faster charge when I was at my brother's place and borrowing his micro USB charger for his rechargable universal remote. I also think I may have a problem with a program because I dunno if it's normal or not but watching Netflix on my lunch break the phone went from 87% to 80% in like 20 min. 7% in 30 min seems a bit much. I like bamf alot but if the other Rom's work so much better I may try it out., update.. it went down 1% just makign this post.. so not only does it charge slow as heck, something is causing a slow power loss beyond the norm I think.

Streaming anything is going to chew up your battery.
But like others have posted, you could have a problem either with your usb cable or the actual charger plug itself.
I think I'm going to try the Bamf with 3.0 sense tonight,. Trying a different charger right now,. one with a Kyocera name brand on the side but it's still a micro usb charger to see if there's much difference. when I originally got the extended battery it seemed to run great at first and then I upgraded my ROM and at 2.1 bamf remix GB alot of bugs were cleared up but it also seems to be drainign my battery faster and charging slower so we'll see...
How does the 2.1 GB remix with imoyseon's kernel compare to the Bamf 3.0 sense with the dream kernel?

I had the same prob with das bamf 2.1 remix until i opted for imoseyon 3.3.8 lean test kernel.
Now i'm back to normal charging with stock battery and extended.
problem was with the kernel, but i you download the imos.. 3.3.2 or higher kernel you will have the charging issue fixed.
well too late now lol I flashed to the BAMF 3.0 RC3 and am going to give it a go. How does the Dream Kernel work ? any good?
GB charge issue. Some people have to reboot after a phone call to get charging to work correctly again. Ide try DBAMF 1.8.6 with mr2 radio support if I was you
n/a
Are you stock or rooted? I dont have a laptop so I use mine for everything. I get around 15 to 20 hours on a charge. Rooted with MR2 radios and DasBamf 1.8.6 NTE
I bought a couple extra batteries with chargers so I can always have a spare or 2 handy...
install a new rom. i recommend synergy. i easily get twelve hours with moderate use on 4g. also download setcpu and set your screen off processor speed to around 300 mhz. saves a ton of battery for me

Yup I have the same problem my phone is dead in two hours on mild use and dies quickly also if I am in a low service area. I have two batteries, a wall and car charger handy, and also bought a New Trent iCruiser IMP1000. It lasts at least two maybe three days on each charge. I get about 6-8 full charges out of it. It was worth the $80 for days when I have no access to a charger.

Does anyone know of a program on Android that will shows the voltage that it is getting from the touchstone? I ask this as I have seen many people complain that it takes a bit to charge on the android side. On the WebOS side it works wonders.
thanks for the time and hopefull i can help track down the charging issue

It is not so much the voltage you need to know but the charge current. Battery Monitor Widget app will tell you lots about battery including charge rates.
So with the program mentioned above I took a total of 3 pictures with the touchpad on the touchstone and with just the cord. The first picture will be with it on the touchstone and the one 2 will be with the cable. you should see that on the touchstone it is about 480 where as the cable is 1300. With in a few moments it dropped to offer 900. Of course without the webos information this does not mean allot yet.hoping to get with rod Whitby and talk to him about the webos side of charging
I dont know about the touchstone specifically, but I did test the charging between webos and android and they are nearly identical with the cable. Took an hour to charge 31% in android and an hour to charge 31% with WebOS.
The cable should be pretty much standard but I could almost swear that the touchstone charges faster. I have in the past seen it charge faster.I'm almost passive
I haven't noticed a difference in charge speed on the touchstone in android vs webOS.
The govna preware package will give some battery/charge information.

I think that to get accurate figures when using this app you have to tell it what the battery capacity is in its settings. This should be set to 6000maH for the TP.
You know that you don't need any special app, just:
cat /sys/power/charger/currentlimit
and you'll see what current your TP is charging at.
Anyone find a charger that can actually charge the phone while using the GPS? I have a modified charger with the center pins tacked together and the Samsung genuine car charger, neither of which can keep up with the drain.
Anyone have positive evidence that their charging solution will at least maintain battery life while GPS + screen are running?
I'm at a loss and tired of spending money on chargers that aren't up to the task.
Thank you.
I have the Samsung car mount that comes with a Samsung car charger. Not sure if that's the same charger you have, but I've used it on a road trip so far and it definitely maintains and charges a little. 14 hours of driving btw.
I attempted to call Samsung Accessory support this morning to find out if that charger is different than the basic charger and they were giving me the run around. I didn't want to spend $XX on another charger unless I knew it had a higher output.
Can you give me the spec's on it?
I know the basic samsung charger only puts out 750mA.
I have used numerous chargers in the car while running GPS and none of them actually seem to charge the device; they just keep it "treading water".
Truth is, with the screen size being what it is, and likely both cores firing at full capacity, I don't think it's entirely realistic to expect the thing to charge while doing something so data intensive as GPS; especially, when you consider that your data signal can and will vary WILDLY while driving through different places, which absolutely and invariably will stress the battery even further, contributing to drain whether plugged in or not. That's a lot of work for a relatively small device to handle.
Just my $.02 coming from a mix of experience and common sense.
-Ryan
Guy above you says that his does.
Hell, I'd be happy with treading water, way better than the steep downhill fall I've got going on.
Can limit processor speed by throttling it manually with my OC kernel or by enabling the saving mode the phone has innately. Can reduce data by switching off 4G.
It doesn't need those things to run as a GPS. The GPS itself doesn't seem to eat much battery at all but I realize the screen is huge. However, how can this be a viable device if we can't figure out a way to make it WORK?
I hope that camaroz28 can get back to me on this.

There is no writing on it at all so I have no idea what it's output current is.
As an aside, I've heard of a lot of people just getting a small DC->AC converter and then using the original wall charge adapter to charge in the car.
There are two very good posts about this very topic.
This one recommends a charger:

It also has a link in the OP to the other post about charging the Note.

You can confirm that your phone will charge, albeit slowly, with the provided adapter that comes with the Nav mount?
I'm not a big fan out DC to AC car adapters.

Only did a couple quick searches for "GPS Charging" before making this thread, and didn't find that one!
Thank you guys.

Yes, after driving for 7 hours, my batter went from something like 52% to 60%. Don't remember the exact numbers, but it went up. This was while switching between google navigation and an app called "GPS HUD" with Pandora running in the background. Data was mostly HSPA/HSPA+ except for the beginning and end of the trip where I was in LTE cities.

Maintain a fully charged spare battery in auto
Tried about every auto charging fix I could find on this forum. Still get about 2% per hour discharge. I'm routinely in and out of my car 8-10 hours a day so end up with a dead battery. My fix (not elegant but works) is to maintain a fully charged spare battery in my van using a charger for extra batteries.
Of course could not do this with my iphone which is now relegated to my grandkids for games and music.
I love this forum. Great help to me.

Same, I actually have 3 spare batteries and a spare battery charger. I don't want to have to fool with changing my battery in the car though. I've already ordered the charger from the other thread, should have it by Saturday to try that puppy out.
I'm an engineer, and I travel quite a bit.
The GPS software you use makes a huge difference. If you want the phone to charge, don't use Waze. During a test one day, Waze plugged in drained more battery than Navigon did while unplugged. Mine charges with Navigon and Pandora running simultaneously. I haven't tested Google Navigation yet, I'm going to do that today. The charger I use is a 2.1A Belkin AutoCharger made for iPhones. I'm using a USB extension cable with manually shorted data pins. I get 800-something mA out of it, unfortunately not the full 1000 the stock wall charger puts out. Running an inverter in the car with the stock charger I can get Waze to charge, but that's just not worth it for me. Too much gear in the just to charge a phone.
I bought my LG G5 new last November (2017). Ever since last week the battery can't hold a charge for more than a few hours. It goes from 100% to dead two to three times a day. Before this disturbing trend, my normal usage would get a full day off a full charge.
A normal day for me is listening to a music player w/ headphones, making sure the screen in on standby. If the screen isn't off I'm just doing light web browsing, like checking forums, searching eBay, reading articles...just really basic web browser stuff. I make sure to keep the brightness at 40-50% on average; close to zero at night.
Anyone have an idea why this happening and how to remedy?
Thanks.
The battery is most likely no longer able to hold a charge, like you described

After the last OTA update mine suddenly started to do the same thing. I bought 2 batteries online () but they did the same thing. So I got the unlock file from LG and installed twrp and lineage 15.01. Battery improved some. Installed greenify and now i get almost all day. I still swap between 4 batteries. Each lasts about 8 hours and I always take an extra battery with me when i leave home and plug in car charger.

What's the OTA update? If it doesn't download automatically that's not the reason. Plus, this just started happening like 5-6 days ago.
I ordered a new battery yesterday. I couldn't find one that said it was compatible with the RS988; hopefully it works with my model.
Someone suggested I test my battery with a multimeter. I actually have one.. can't belive I didn't think of that. Also, never heard of greenify. I'll have to check it out.
Over the air updates are pushed out by the carrier or manufacturers. I don't know the last version but they can be automatic so you might have it. I found another thread on this https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/how-to/rs988-software-update-21c-t3663768
So I got the new battery in the mail and no dice, it still is chewing right through it. It doesn't seem as drastic as it was initially, but I still need to charge it again in the mid-late afternoon.
I think it could the charger. Shortly after i got the phone the battery wasn't holding so well. Then I left the stock charger at a friends. I didn't have time to go pick it up, so I bought a replacement and all of a sudden the battery was holding all day. Then after a while that new charger wasn't holding the battery, so I switched back to the stock one and it was holding it all day again. So chargers have alot to do with battery performance. I ordered another one; hopefully that fixes the problem.
It was the USB-C cable. I bought a new one and I'm getting a full 24 hrs of charge.
