[Q] Confusion about replacement screens - Sprint LG G3

I broke my screen and LCD and have opted to replace the screen and frame all in one because it seems the repair becomes far simpler. It seems different websites differentiate the LCD/Frame combo by model (sprint, verison, international, ect.) and some sites don't. Does it matter whether or not the frame is sprint specific? Also where are reputable places to buy a screen from?
Thanks guys/gals

I personally recommend that you go to a repair shop by your house. Its just much eaiser to do and it may get rid of the confussion.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately the one in my town has a pretty bad reputation. I have gone through the tear down guides and it seems straightforward, im just worried about dropping 140 on the wrong part.

You can order it from lg I did with my nexus 4 there was a small fee and they mailed me one. Its worth a try?

Since no one seems to be sure, it seems safer to order the one that is listed as specifically for Sprint. If there's no difference, you haven't lost anything. If there is a difference between models, you may have avoided an expensive mistake.

8525 dummy housing off ebay?

Hi i have a cingular 8525 and plan on purchasing a tilt.....so to pay for it so it doesnt hurt my wallet as much (im still on contract haha) i decided to sell the 8525. however, the phones condition cosmetically isnt exactly the best.
I recall seeing from time to time on posts on various forums people mentioning using a dummy phone to replace the housing. The only problem with this is im under the impression that dummy phones are simply glued together? so i was wondering if anyone knows or can varify if this is possible?
it would definetly be cheaper than getting a new oem housing. i understand the material on the dummy phone isnt the best but basically i dont care much at this point as long as it works and looks decent enough when i sell it. because the phone itself, even the screen is in flawless condition.
any help on this would be appreciated. thanks.
any ideas? ive seen people make mention of getting dummy phones before.
Going the dummy route, isn't smart. ha. You have to be really good with an exacto knife and assuming you have taken apart a 8525 before, it can be a challenge to get it all back together and working properly both electronically and physically (like the slider)
I would say just sell it in its honest form. Just how you have it. Its better than trying to decieve someone into buying a like new phone.
well, yea. i understand what your saying, and dont get me wrong my intention was not to be sneaky and underhanded. its just that the phone cosmetically doesnt look all that great, yet it works flawlessly. it has no problems. people whom have already showed interest in it wont buy it for anything more than $200, and other than the cosmetics the phone to me seems like it would be at best worth $300. at the same time though, i guess it would not be fair to give them something that was cheaper and not as durable than it is in its current form.
it doesnt matter now though. ive found a deal on the phone through att's service for 149.99 w 2yr contract. seeing as how my current contract is barely into its 6month i figure what the hey? if i cancel itll be $175. anyway around the cancel fee? if not its still an awesome deal as it would only be about $350 after all is said and done.
thanks for the help in advance.
yeah, the dummy phone has its buttons molded, and the plastic feels a lot more flimsy. It wouldn't be a nice route to go. I would recommend getting the one off of cnn.cn

Broke The LCD Screen Already

Something unfortunate happened this morning and my phone just slipped from the pocket of my jacket to the street and a car has passed over it two seconds after that just in front of my eyes.
I felt like the car passed over me instead! Luckily though, the phone was upside down and was not brutally damaged; only some bruises on the screen and the housing.
Although the LCD and the phone still works 80%, of course it is not usable under normal conditions. It misses a lot of touches. I am attaching two pictures of the phone that I took by my old TYTN II.
Now therefore I need housing and LCD screen. Although I have seen some housings on ebay; I could not find any screen.
Any ideas of whereabout?
Regards,
For a new screen, you have to get it repaired. You can't do it yourself...
Unless you are really good with eletronics. But the screens aren't available on the market.
I live in Turkey and bought the device from UK via a friend, who brought it here. I will be very hard again to send it UK and give it to customer service and get back to Turkey. I am not talking about shipping but very much worried about customs behavior in Turkey. It's a high possibility that they will treat the device as a "new" after repair and ask for very high custom tax.
Anyway, I have replaced housing and lcd screen before of my TYTN II with various parts I have bought from Ebay. Of course I do not do it myself; instead I give the device to a local mobile phone repair shop in Ankara; the people there are highly experienced in changing parts of all kinds of mobile phones; so it won't be a big problem for me if I can get a new screen somehow
Thanks for advice though.
Hi all,
After a long e-mail traffic via many ebay sellers I think I found what I am looking for; a seller has given me this address: http://www.shope2.com/Product.php?product_id=51490
Can anyone just check that if this is the correct part?
Regards.
I think I weep'd a little when I seen your pics. Sorry to see that happen to you. I think I would have cried like a baby if that were to happen to my Touch Pro2.
Good luck with it. Hope everything works out for you.
I have no choice but to
cry.
thats the reason now i got insurance on my phone :
6 euros / month against break, thief, oxydation etc...
Good thing is, when the TP2 wont be sold anymore, i can just "break" mine , and get the new version (TP3 ? or TP2-like) at no cost
Its an investment, but on the long time, its the best choice with those very expensive phones.

that is almost as painful as getting hit in the groin..
Yes it has a valid warranty in UK; I did not want to void it and I have contacted customer support. They requested me to hand over the phone to "HTC Europe Co. Ltd. Communication House, Presley Way, Crownhill, Milton Keynes, MK80ES" and I gave it to a friend who lives in London; I'll see how much they will charge it for me; until then I am still using my old friend TYTN II
Regards,
OUCH! My heart feels sore for you my friend. Surely there must a registered HTC store in your country that you can get the screen replaced at?
I wouldn't want to try and replace it yourself or going to anyone who isn't a registered technician
You're phone actually survived getting run over by a car??
That's crazy!
I could imagine my Kaiser surviving that, but then you could knock someone out with that! I thought the TP2 wasn't any where near as well built a device.
Really sorry it's happened though, that sucks Hope you get it sorted for a reasonable price!

Unfortunately, i dont know about insurance in the US...
In France at least, most Telecom companies offer insurance as an option.
Well, lastweek i dropped my phone and the glass screen was broken, i have to spend 90USD for repair service.
i'm from Singapore
there are deep scratches on my screen (LCD is working) and i was quoted SGD$40+ for replacing the glass screen
USD$1 = SGD$1.44

Advice on phone and digitizer.

I have a launch 3vo, 1.4 hboot. My screen shattered, if I get a replacement I assume it will have 1.5 hboot, which I've seen stuff here and there that says limited support. Would I be better off trying to replace it and keeping my current phone, which is rooted and romed? And has anyone had anyluck replacing it? I've seen the thread for replacing the lcd, but I just need the glass, thanks.
You should take it to the Sprint store and see if they can just replace the digitizer. Make up some BS about how you need your phonefor business and can't wait on a replacement. If they can fix it, awesome. If not, then just take it back and maybe order the digitizer yourself.

As long as you have TEP, you can get your screen replaced in the store. The software, rom, root, etc. make no difference. If they try to tell you they can't replace it then they're either lazy, unaware of how to harvest parts, or uneducated on Sprint Corporate S&R policies.
I replace them all the time in our stores. The myth is that you can't get your phone repaired if it's rooted. That's not true, it just voids your HTC warranty, not your insurance with Sprint. I encourage my customers to root and have even rooted some of their devices for them. The biggest issue are techs that aren't aware of Sprint policies or just too lazy to follow them.

Like I said before... some stores have lazy techs. Telling a customer that physical damage is not repairable in store is completely false. The more accurate statement would be as follows:
Physical damage resulting in catastrophic malfunction or complete unusability is not repairable in store. Physical damage resulting in cosmetic abnormalities can be repaired.
Long story short, they tell you that because they don't want to deal with it. There is no policy against it and further their is no reason these damages should not be repaired.
I repair completely shattered Evo screens daily with a disclaimer that if anything is internally damaged it MAY result in an insurance claim. In most cases it's purely cosmetic and I have them out the door with no money out of pocket and happy as can be.
I'm actually on the process with Asurion to get a replacement because my screen is broken too... I took the phone to Sprint and the Sprint Rep file a claim and I just had to fax a Form and a copy of my driver license to get it... they wont fix it.. I would be getting the phone by monday so I report back if I get a 1.5 hboot phone..
Damn!!! Tell us how you really feel
Like Palekillerwhale said, it's going to depend on the techs at the sprint store. If you live in a metropolitan area, take it to another authorized sprint repair store. I'm fortunate the one by me is pretty decent, and works really hard at satisfying customers. They even have an evo 4g on a display with a shattered screen (not a small crack...completely shattered), and it says "we can fix this".

Well, I can tell you a few things regarding this issue and what I plan to do about it...
I had a NON-DAMAGE screen issue pop up with my Evo3d just a little over the 30 days from launch, which of course I got the handset on release day. The screen/digitalizer would become unresponsive or conversely just freak out, clicking/selecting things without touching the screen at all. Well of course after a day of frustration thinking it was an app or something else I decided to get it fixed.
First and foremost and still to this day, taking it to a Sprint store (I'm in NY so there are PLENTY of them, including flagship stores and repair dept's.) and they inform me that there is a problem (lol) and they would replace it with a refurbished phone (no cost). I refused, stating that if they couldn't repair the handset they should replace it with a NEW one. Hahahaha, I'm sure you can figure their answer to that...
I told them (the analogy might be a bit off), but it was like buying a new car and having a problem with it right away... so you take it to the dealer and they tell you instead of fixing your car, they have one or two sitting on the lot that was put together from pieces of GOOD cars they had gotten back broken, but not too worry that car he's giving you is just LIKE new.
So I took my phone and called Sprint, eventually elevating it to a Supervisor and explained that just because the phone was over 30 days, it was not dropped, water or any other type of damaged and should be swapped as defective, not damaged and seeing that THEY couldn't repair it (they had not parts yet for it) that further qualified the fact it should be replaced as it was - "NEW". Lol... well, the Supervisor said that although he KNEW that was done at times, he wasn;t sure if he could get approval for this instance. Of course they wouldn't replace it with a new unit, but they did put me in a 3 way with HTC who would repair the "KNOWN ISSUE" with the digitalizers on my phone and send "MY" phone back to me all new. A 6-10 day turn around... Well sounded good right? Sure........ right until HTC somehow forgot to send me the shipping and return info, etc., lol...
Anyways, so fast forward, the screen then worked... only intermittently would they screen/digitalizer issue pop it's ugly head. (The original issue began in end of July, early August)... That is until just last week, when not matter what I did, the screen was totally out of control. SO I went to Sprint store to see if they had parts yet... and the answer was no, they would repair screen, but would replace the phone. I was so pissed as you could imagine. 4 months and no parts for repair? Hmmmmmm... ok, well we (here) all know they WANT that 1.5 HBoot on all our phones and that seemingly benign tracking software too... lol. So I refused.
Ok, to the meat of the story...
So I called Sprint and after going through what seemed torture (yes - 4 + hours on the phone) they shipped me a REPLACEMENT unit. OH boy... you're thinking he's right back where he started... but it's not so.
What I wanted was the broken phone and a replacement unit in my hand at the same time, obviously for a reason.
First thing I did of course was turn the thing on and sure enough, HBoot 1.5. Then the unit starts and of course the garbage is there, asking if it's ok for HTC to TRACK my activities to provide a better product, bull bull bull, but whatever... I just look over the phone and make note of all the upgrades to software, hardware, etc., personally, I'm not liking it, but whatever.
Here's what I'm gonna do about it... I'm taking the damned thing apart and swapping the NEW screen with the core of my phone so I get what I want. I still have another 14 days to send the broken phone back so plenty of time to do it. I also took video of my phone freaking out so if they try to charge me I will be able to fight it. I'm not in the city this week otherwise I would have just stopped by the Sprint store near me and duked the kid $20 to do the swap for me, but whatever, I have the tech tools so will help myself. I'm happy to be free from the bull they put on the handsets and keep my original phone. I get my new screen and keep the original core... all no cost to me.
Anyways, thought I'd just share my experience with you all.
Regards,

HOX+ - Cracked Screen - AT&T Insurance?

Hi All.
Never cracked a screen before so this is a bit embarrassing. Thankfully it's not bad, only a slight crack in the black bezel area in 2 places, but if I run my finger over it you can feel it. My concern is that it may be weakened now to the point if it suffers a drop/fall it will crack all the way.
Does anyone have experience with AT&T insurance? This is my first phone in the US and I know that the deductible is $199. The thought crossed my mind that at some point AT&T will discontinue the HOX+.
BTW, I have a bad knee and tripped on some carpet stairs while my phone was in my pocket, with a case on, so I'm surprised it even cracked in the first place.
callsignapollo
Well sir you have two options...
1. file with the insurance and get either a new or refurb HOX+
2. wait a couple months til they discontinue it then file. and you may get lucky and get a new HTC ONE..
other than that.. not much you can do on the cheap side of things 199 for the insurance, or buy a new screen which might be little cheaper not sure on that either way its deal with the crack or do the above. lol
I have had a few exp with insurance and have no complaints. even refurbs looked new. good luck man..
I cracked mine and went around insurance and sent it in for repair through HTC. It cost 199. You may be able to get it done for less. In my case the screen was damaged so badly it was falling off in little pieces. Insurance doesn't seem to net you much unless you completely destroy the phone.
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda app-developers app
So in other words, destroy the phone then send it in with a witty excuse.
unfortunately, AT&T will only replace with refurbished or like device even after the device is "Discontinued" waiting wont gain you a HTC One, the only way that would ever happen is if AT&T/HTC completely ran out of handsets. sometimes if the mfg comes out with a new version of the same device (i.e. the focus and the focus II from samsung) you might get the upgraded version, but i wouldnt hold my breath in hopes of getting an HTC One in replacement for your broken X+.
Just an update on this - AT&T doesn't appear to be offering the One X+ anymore on their website. That said, my One X+ is still going strong despite the cracks on the side. Given the cracks didn't manage to stretch over the visible part of the screen - it's hard to justify the $199 so I'll continue to wait.
It's a shame that such a great phone has limited developer support. I saw that the HTC First had the source code released and yet the HOX+ is not shown the same love.

Wow, your right, I don't see the HOX+ on the site. I didn't even notice that till you mentioned it. They even moved the One down to the bottom. It doesn't even show a HOX+ referb, or as they call it, a "certified like new". I wonder if they are done with the HOX+ already? That's crazy. Tease us with a 64MB phone for $200 then pull it. That's OK, I have mine and I love it. And if I move up to the ONE, I'll keep the HOX+.

[Q] Halp! Cracked Screen on EVO LTE Sprint!

Anyone have a source I can order a replacement screen from? I had Sprint replace the screen on my Evo 4G a couple of years ago and the cost was $35 total for a new screen & bezel. I went in to the same Sprint store and they said they no longer do it. Likewise I'm having a hard time finding replacement parts so that I can do it myself. In a previous life I was a Nokia repair tech so I'm pretty good with these things but I need parts. I'm seeing that some places sell a digitizer but I need the front glass. I may also need the next layers too as I've got some colorful spots near the bottom corners where it landed and cracked from. I saw someone selling something but it said specifically not for the Sprint version of the phone. Anyone know where I could get these parts preferably with a new bezel?
We were supposed to have 1yr contracts on our business account and since they took those away we're having to wait longer for upgrades and this is the result. If our account was the way it was for years prior we'd just go in and pay to upgrade our phones. I'm going to seriously reconsider staying with Sprint once our contracts are up this time around since this is no longer a selling point compared to their competition.
Thanks for the help! :good:
Looks like I found it for $69.99 here. Any cheaper anywhere? Any reason this one won't work on my Sprint LTEvo? Thanks!
Also, I just found this site which seems to sell the same part for about $10ish less. They also sell the housing for about $30 which I also need to replace since mine is fairly beat up. I noticed that they sell this one without a light guide for about $60 and then they sell this one which has a light guide for about the same price but it's B-stock. My question is what the heck is a light guide and do I need one? Is it something I need to remove from the old one that could potentially get destroyed when removing it to re-use or something? Please get back to me quickly so that I can get my order on the way so I can fix my phone before it breaks worser.
Thanks!
