[Q] Does Root Break Remote Play in Lollipop? - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have two Z2s. One with an unlocked BL and one with a locked BL. When I rooted the 2nd one, I noticed that the Remote Play app would error out. Once I unrooted, it would work fine. That was several months ago and I've been running stock since.
Just wondering if that is still the case now? I'm running Lollipop and was pondering rooting the phone again (I miss some of my root apps).
Thx,
Praz

as far as i know, yes having a rooted phone will produce error code 88001003 when attempting to launch remote play. my phone does it running the latest lollipop rooted posted by niaboc, and has always done it when rooted.
unroot and it works fine.
there is a modded apk that removes some of the different checks the remote play app does but its for a really old version. i was gonna try and decompile the app and see what i can do when i get free time.

i hope there devs will solve this one . i have the same problem.....have you tried on a unlocked BL?

[Q] Is it worth it to root?

I had a few questions about rootign and the SGS3.
1. Do i need to root to use launchers like nova and apex?
2. If I launch and mandatory updates come out will I be able to download them if I root?
3. Is it worth it?
Thanks in advance. Ive only rooted older phones that didnt regularly receive updates and my knowledge is extremely limited.

1. No.. those launchers will work without root
2. Not sure about this..
3. Up to you and what apps you use or like to use. There are some really great apps out there that require root. Think of having root the same as being an administrator on your PC. Lets you have TOTAL control of your device. I think its well worth it.. for me.. for someone who likes to use root apps!

I hesitated to root to ! I did it just to be adfree et to use Titanium Backup
Having rooted mine, I received notification OTA of the update yesterday but was unable to install OTA but no trouble updating via kies on the PC, just had to re-root again after the update.
It is ALWAYS worth it to root, lol. Who doesn't want root apps, custom ROMs and kernels, and the ability to remove bloatware??
Usually I will keep my smartphones untouched for several months until I got bored or I hit the limits of the phone.
I decided to root my old Desire because I was short of memory all the time, this can be solved only by having A2Sd+, EXT2SD, etc. ROMs which needs rooting for flashing.
I hit the limit for my Desire only after several weeks...so...I rooted it only after a few weeks. (I am still keeping this device )
I rooted my Sensation after 3 months...just got bored with the stock one...
(This baby is sold after 7 months (unrooted before selling)...I dunno, I do not like this device without any special reason...)
I dunno if I want to root my SGSIII at the moment...perhaps after several months..
I am currently still enjoying my stock SGSIII Hey! It is only a couple of days since I received this device
I managed to wait an entire 24 hours before rooting my S3. I felt that this demonstrated tremendous will power and self control.

I rooted to get rid of Samsung bloatware and to be able to use cwm. Really easy using the Toolkit (listed in the Dev section), and I was mighty pleased that Samsung chose to ship the phone with an unlocked bootloader.

I was exactly the same with my desire
As for whether to root or not i know everybody says it but it really is just a case of looking at why you would want to root vs the risks. I personally am waiting for a bit because I haven't seen a custom ROM i like enough or another reason to root (battery fix or Google wallet working for example)
However that being said rooting is always worth it because of all the extra apps and capabilities! And as far as I'm aware getting back to stock if it becomes faulty is as simple as flashing some stock firmware through Odin and using chainfires tiangleaway (someone correct me of i'm wrong please because not absolutely 100% on this)

Software update help...

So, currently I am running Stock with root injected and the bootloader is unlocked, and the only real tweak i have going with the device is Google Wallet. I'm at work and suddenly my phone starts asking me to preform an OTA update...I went a head an deferred the update for a few days to determine the best way to go through with this.
1)I assume this is going to break my root when i do it and it will relock my bootloader, am i correct about this?
2)If it does, then Google Wallet will stop working also, right?
3) If it will do the above, how can i put a stop to this OTA
4) If its not possible to stop this update and i will loose all my features, do i need to go a head and de-activate google wallet on my device?
5) has anyone with a rooted device gone through with this update yet, i know it just popped up in the last hour or so, but i am looking for any advice i can get because ideally i want to keep my root, unlocked bootloader and GWallet working.
My update failed
I'm rooted running stock with a few little tweaks (nothing I can't live without). The initial update failed. I saved root using Voodoo, unrooted, and ran the update again. It failed the second time. I'm not inclined to go to much more trouble until I find out if the update is worth it and if I can maintain root... I'm not willing to give that up just yet
Definitely do not accept the update, even if it asks you every 5 mins
There has already been a reported brick and I know it has a new boot loader in it. So its safe to assume that Google wallet will not work lol. The best course of action is to wait for a beast dev to find a way to help.

[Q] Rooting Confusion on latest OTA Update

I apologize in advance if this has been answered or if I have inadvertently offended. I did watch the video and have developed OSes for 30 years. I also have searched all over this site and the web for resolution and am making no progress, so I'm asking the 'oracle'
Got an ATT S4 (I337) a week ago - it was running UCUAMDL. I rooted it using Motochopper and was happily using Titanium Pro etc. I get notified of OTA update. OTA update downloads (357MB) yet fails during install at 30% consistsently.
I figure it is unhappy with my root - I unrooted and cannot remember which way I did it - I seem to recall SuperSU I was using did not have the built-in 'unroot' support so I grabbed the stock image and used ODIN to flash it.I also may have manually uninstalled the 'normal' way the SU app - I suspect this may be my real problem.
After flashing stock ROM for UCUAMDL phone was no longer rooted, did not say custom etc, and took the OTA upgrade just fine. This was for UCUAMF3 which did add App 2 SD support - BTW this update used another 1G of storage compared to UCUAMDL, and I could not recover the 1G by moving apps either, making it virtually worthless as far as adding support for apps in SD, lol.
The problem is now I cannot seem to get the device rooted again. Motochopper fails when installing su.apk. I suspect I have screwed the pooch - what do I need to do to get this thing rooted again?
Is it typical for an OTA update to fail 'because' the device is rooted?
Any advice is much appreciated.

I do believe it's because of the latest OTA update. I know the OTA for Verizon patched our bootloader hack that we previously had and I think the same may have happened for AT&T. You might want to check through the AT&T forums section as you have an AT&T S4 and this is the Verizon section. Hope you find what your looking for!

I'd begin with posting in the forum applicable to your device. That being said, in about sure at&t's update was on par with ours

[Q] Need ROM device type for Verizon's Moto E XT1528

Can anyone please tell me what device type I should select when downloading Roms for Verizon's Moto E XT1528. Example is falcon, ghost, titan, etc.. Any and all help is very much appreciated.
You can't download ROMs for xt1528 because it's bootloader locked and can't even be rooted yet...
My bootloader is unlocked. It was unlocked by the Sunshine app. Costed me 25.00.
how did you get sunshine to work? what root method did you use?
I was able to temp root with Kingroot on 5.0.2 (only with first OTA) and 5.1. When I run Sunshine, it gets root permissions, but when doing its more thorough compatibility check, eventually displays an error instructing me to contact support, which I haven't bothered to do yet.
With the factory firmware (5.0.2 before the first little OTA), I can't get Kingroot to work at all.

Sure, post proof. The Sunshine team are a bunch of the scummiest people I know in the community, and they will be getting $0 from me (maybe even a negative, if given the chance).

I don't believe you.
I ran the app and it said it requires the device to already be rooted to work on 5.x and that you have to obtain root some other way. And this phone only ever shipped with Lollipop...

Z3v 5.1.1 Full Root

I was able to accomplish a Full Root on the latest OTA update on the phone.
Previously I was running Stock 4.4.4 KitKat with SuperSu and had issues with the OTA, since I had removed Apps.
I installed the Stock 4.4.4 ftf to the phone using the flashtool.
Then was successful in receiving the Prompt to update.
After Update, I installed. "Kingroot" for android. just google it. NOT KINGOROOT or any other.
After running kingroot, King User was installed.
In my experience, no other root method will achieve full root. I was not happy with using Kinguser, since i was a Supersu fan. But anytime I successfully removed kinguser, to swap for Supersu, I had lost partial root access, and could not uninstall apps. I could only Freeze.
I also tried Superuser, but only kinguser allowed me to fully uninstall bloatware, and other apps from the phone.
Just thought I would share.
Thanks, Iambedook. Every experience helps. Kingoroot got me into trouble once before in the past.
Can you flash back to 4.4 from 5.1.1?

I'd love to try this, but I'm kinda unwilling/aprehensious to take the chance with rooting apps. Can you confirm that you can use flashtool to revert back to 4.4? I just know Verizon would block such a thing in an update, they can be jerks. (like the moto razr maxx hd) Any insight is appreciated.

Yes, you can revert back to 4.4.4 through Flashtool. Doing so though, you will not have Advanced Calling or the refreshing Lollipop UI. Also, unless you do something about it, you will be promptly reminded all the time to update to 5.1.1.

Giga,
If I use this method to root 5.1.1., can I install dual recovery and Camera 2 and the FM tuner app? I'd also like the updated flashlight you put together but don't see that as a separate install. Should I wait or go ahead with this method for root?
Thanks, Pat

You may root, but I would advise against anything else. the Z5 Camera is most likely not compatible for our phones on 5.1.1, and neither is the FM Tuner. It's a whole lot I can't touch base on yet.

I was able to flash back to 4.4.4 after i messed things up, but after going back to 4.4.4 i am struggling to get back to 5.1.1. The updates are not appearing, stating I am at the latest version.
I would also like a confirm if this. Because I'm sitting around and waiting for a rooted 5.1.1 copy for the phone. Im on 5.0.2 right now and all is working good but still waiting. Thanks all.
I'm going to see if I can root after upgrading to 5.1.1, but I have the stock firmware just incase.

Just an FYI, after I needed to revert to 4.4.4. I was struggling to receive updates to get back to 5.1.1. I had to use the Flashtool, 3-5 times to get the correct update prompts to appear. If anyone else had similar issues when reverting back, let me know, but re flashing repeatedly worked for me.

Just scroll down to the z3v dev section.
I was actually able to flash the stock ftf coming 5.0.2. I had to flash it with default options the first time with it failing. I then found that I have to basically flash noting to clear the error on the phone by checking everything in exclude and the other exclude box where it shows its not displaying any files in the middle of the window.
Once that went through, I was able to upgrade from stock to .44 and then the the two updates for 5.1.1. After all that I reset to factory again to test on rooting the phone. I was too, able to obtain root with King Root. I was able to install zxrecovery and xposed with no problems. I'm actually used to King Root as I had to use it on the Verizon branded 7" tablet that didn't have any other possible methods previously. I also found that Busybox was slightly out of date (difference of 2.0) and installed to /sbin which wasn't too big of an issue.
Beyond that my phone seems to get pretty warm and typically complains about not charging even on a 2 Amp charger.
Can you tell me how you avhieved root because i want it but i can't revert to kitkat for some reason (flashtool won't recognise the update file) and I'm on lollipop. I've tried kingroot(app version) and it didn't work, tried reverting didn't work and tried all the framaroot, towelroot and such apps but none worked. I want working root, xposed and twrp. I can't find any way to do it please help.

Try King root again. I used their apk on the phone. It rebooted once at 30%, but when I got back in the app after the reboot, it successfully rooted the device.

Thats why then. This is only for the Z3v the Verizon variant.
Hi there,
New to the forum. After several hours of reading and searching, I became bewildered enough to decide to register and post .
This thread looked promising. I'm currently on rooted 4.4.4 with this phone. I also have a custom recovery installed. Im trying to get to 5.1.1. As of right now, I assume my only option is to wait for a 5.1.1 ftf so that I can update, because the OTA updates won't work (phone reboots into the custom recovery and the update is interrupted).
Is there an easier way to get the OTA? Or am I stuck waiting for an ftf?
To be clear, my goal is to be on 5.1.1 with root. But at this point I don't think I can get to 5.1.1 at all.
