TWRP crashes when installing gapps - Nexus 9 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys I've got a problem I can't solve. Yesterday I flashed Lollipopalooza in my n9 to test it before I return the device. Everything working perfect. Today I got my excange model and did everything like yesterday, I even used the same .zips & .img, but when I flash Gapps (the 64bit ones) TWRP restarts. It doesn't show an error, but it doesn't flash too. I reflashed factory image and checked md5. The problem persists. Could anybody help me?
Thanks in advance
Clayne
Edit: Oh and I tried the official TWRP and the modded one by our Master USBhost

Ok i tried flashing banks gapps. They are 32bit but they are flashable.. weird.
Edit: WTF? I just tried it again with the zip stored on my storage and now it works.. I should learn how to get those logs..

[Q] Status 7 error when flashing.

I'm trying to flash my GNote and have a custom recovery. However when I try to flash a custom rom, CM10 in particular, I get an error that says Status 7. I have searched here and google and cannot find a fix or explanation of what is wrong. Any takers? Thanks for the help. :good:

You've only listed one thing you've tried, but if you have tried everything else then god knows.
status 7 error means you formatted the system. Never format system. Try a google search. you will get xda links of people explaining how to recover from that.

Gives the same error.
Re: Trouble installing CM10./10.1
This happens to me too.
So the best solution for now. Flash the roms you want using the provided kernel.
Then take a backup, flash Mesa, switch between roms via restoring them from recovery.
I do so

I had this problem as well. I searched through google and found out the solution is to flash a newer version of CWM which actually worked for me. I couldn't find a separate package with CWM but I found a kernel containing it. Everything has been fine since then.

Flashed to a newer version of CWM ?
I guess MESA already has CWM6.xx
You found a kernel containing it means ? Most of the kernels already use CWM as default recovery I guess

What did he exactly meant ?

Flash boot.img (in the zip by rom)
Install Zip
Install Gapps
Wipe data (do this first and only once and never do it again)

Lost Mobile Network after flashing twrp-2.8.6.0-t03gub.img.tar

Hi Friends in deep trouble..
i am on dn4 v2.1
i just flashed twrp-2.8.6.0-t03gub.img.tar from here http://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxynote2n7100.html
i thought this is the latest TWRP
now i have lost my mobile network
can some one help me plz ...
friend.
for gt-7100 is correct this twrp-2.8.6.0-t03g.img.tar.
caution - twrp-2.8.6.0-t03gub.img.tar, twrp-2.8.6.0-t03gduoszn.img.tar, are other devices
size > 8MB, beyond the incompatibility and lost partition EFS, now recovery using stock rom .
Messed up with dev/block and efs !
Download stock rom for n7100 from samsung's official site.
Flash stock rom using odin.
This will reset your modem/radio (lost IMEI) and efs folder.
wow
Friend < dont bother and dont do anything more < U just download Stock firmware from sam mobile site and flash using Odin, I faced same problem and after flashing stock everything ok So dont try to restore efs and else just flash stock and all will b done u can contact me 9825854599

I know the feeling...i avoid all the TWRP updates and keep only the version 2.7.2.1, with this one i have no problems at all. The version 2.8.5 worked well...but after my 3rd ou 4th flash/reflash ROM i lost the Mobile Network...and yes, im pretty sure that was caused by the recovery.
After fix the mobile network problems, i reversed to TWRP 2.7.2.1...flash, reflash and flas again the same ROM and its all working fine.
I never had any problems with CWM..but TWRP make F2FS easy to implement on nandroid, thats why i keep using it.
I Just get the Mobile Netwok back, after flashing oficial Sammy ROM with desktop Odin.

Applied twrp-2.8.0.0-l900.img and modem.bin
To clarify my issue (same as OP): Applying twrp-2.8.6 seems to have ganked my modem. Everything else works. I tried MULTIPLE times to restore to factory, then apply twrp then restore from backup. Found out it is only happening AFTER I apply twrp 2.8.6. I finally found a copy of twrp 2.8.5 for the L900 but that has the same issue, so I applied 2.8.0 and the modem bin at the same time. This seems to have fixed the radio and i am back to functionality AND twrp is installed.
Now, I am not POSITIVE that it requires both actions (it might just be an issue with 2.8.5 and 2.8.6), but the solution was:
Code:
heimdall flash --RECOVERY twrp-2.8.0.0-l900.img --RADIO ./ALL_SPT_L900VPUCNE2_L900SPTCNE2_1561791_REV04_user_low_ship/modem.bin --no-reboot
If I have to do this again, I would apply twrp-2.8.0.0-l900.img first using your loader of choice (Odin3 or heimdall et al.) and see if that was all that was necessary or they both have to be applied (for some wildly cool magics that I am sure no one would be able to figure out).

I'm not able to flash any custom ROM..
I had flashed before but then I came back to stock and now it just doesn't work..
I first tried RR ROM it flashes and in end says unmount of /system failed (which I know can be ignored.) when I boot it just remains in boot animation.
Then I tried Ashwins cm13 again same.. It just stays in animation.
Then Cm 12.1 and it also stays in animation.. I also wiped internal thinking maybe it would help but it didn't..
At last I flashed stock and it just flashes fiine and boots..
Note : I'm using TWRP 3.0.0-1 the official one..
Any help would be appreciated

Hi
I do not know about korean device.
But on i9100 international you have to root your device, then For installing cm13 for instance you have to repartition first and install twrp 3.x.x and cm13 and gapps which you do by flashing zip-files in recovery (Not with odin).
You should search for the developer @CNBLACK who made 5.1.1 and 6.0.1 roms for i9100 and for korean devices aswell (named 250 or similar)‘

On i9100 int. you can flash philz cwm6 stockkernel.zip which has root by using stock-recovery because it is a zip-file (no need for odin)
And If you flash isorec twrp it will not show up If are not on an isorec-kernel.
So after installing philz use again recovery to install latest latest cm11 20161119 by @zjq985062714 i9100.zip (has isorec kernel) and isorec twrp 3.0.2-1.zip by @the.gangster.
Again this works without odin just using recoveries.
Then you can do repartitioning and flashing cm13 of others.
This is How i do it always On my i9100 international.

Hi
Maybe you overlooked it in my Post.
I wrote you can install philz Kernel by using STOCK - RECOVERY. On switched off device press 3 buttons at the same time until stock recovery appears ( Volume up-, power- and home-button).
Then move to "apply update" and choose philz.zip from SD card (of course you have to copy it on
card first).
Reboot System.
Switch off device
Reboot in recovery using 3 buttons and you will have custom recovery to continue.

Hi
This is strange. Philz kernel is well known as a safe kernel which has been used by many people.
Did you look for the correct version for your device ?
I am not sure but it should be PhilZ-cwm6-XWLSD-OXX-4.87-signed.zip (or similar)
Anyway you could try to make a Backup in recovery.
Then i would flash cm11 and twrp which i mentioned before.
In case you flashed wrong kernel flash correct PhilZ kernel or cwm 6.0.4.7
Then flash cm11 and twrp.
Just want to say once more all this works fine On i9100 int. and i do not know if your device is different in any way.
Did you read the threads by @CNBLACK which i recommended?

Okay, I checked this thread.
You must upgrade to Stock JB Firmware.
And If you already to use Stock JB, Check my SGS2 thread (u1skt).

Eureka!!!! i have found the problem and solution!!!
as i've previously said, my phone was rooted using kingoroot. once i have installed philz, it start bugging. So i though myself maybe there was a conflict between superuser by kingoroot and superuser by philz. i tried to unistall kingoroot but i was unable tu unistall superuser (don't really know why). nevetheless i have disabled the kingoroot superuser in application manager and the problem just disappeared. now my phone is working perfectly. i have repartitionned it in 6Gb internal and 7Gb USB. i'm ready for the next step.
thanks a lot Sensei

sorry but i'm confused. as i have mentionned in my post, my phone was originaly a SHW-M250S but i have convert it in gt-i9100 by using a pit file and flashing a new firmware. so i should continue by flashing cyanogenmod for SHW-M250S or for gt-i9100?

Glad your device is working again.
Please keep in mind that (on i9100) you have to increase the SYSTEM partition to 1 GB or more If you want to flash any cm13 or cm14 rom.
As far as i can see you increased only data (internal) partition.

Hi again
My opinion is: once the device is converted to i9100 it should behave like one.
Maybe anybody can confirm this.
If it were my device i would make a
- backup in recovery (important!)
Then i would have a go and make
- clean flash of latest cm11 + gapps + twrp 3 ( i think i mentioned the Files before).
If it works - fine! (and can think about flashing other roms).
If it does'nt work: restore the backup from recovery .
But it is your device and your decision.

Hi
cm11 should not make any trouble at all.
I do not know why this message turned up.
Please tell me what exact Recovery you used for flashing (e.g. philz cwm 6.0.4.7) and which cm 11 you flashed.
Maybe the Recovery should be updated to latest.
Still I wish somebody would confirm that your korean converted device can be treated as an i9100.

Hi again
Just did some searching and a reason for this error is as I supposed:
You have to update the Recovery.
Flash in present philz Recovery the "cwm 6.0.4.7".
Then use this Recovery to flash latest cm11 + gapps + twrp 3

hello!
thanks TriboDoP but i'm sorry i thing something went wrong for me. i have install philz_touch_6.48.4-i9100.zip as you said but after that my phone just brick. fortunately i have reinstalled it USING ODIN!!! (i had no choice and i desperately tried with odin and it worked). Now i have 2 questions: 1) why did i got a brick after installing philz_touch_6.48.4-i9100.zip??? 2) now that i see that i can flash using odin is there any safety alternative with ODIN to install android 4.4.2 or 5.1? any other suggestions will be appreciate.
really, thanks for your help. i really appreciate
