Hi
Just before I went to bed I tried muting my sound, but the screen was stuck on the lock screen, so I held the power button untill my phone restarted.
Then it got stuck on the samsung galaxy s3 screen (not the samsung logo) and wouldn't go further (like the 7th time I did get to the samsung logo, but that was the first and last time, and it didnt go further).
When I tried charging my battery, the battery icon popped up but it stayed grey with the grey circle in the middle. I wasn't able to get to safe mode at that point, because nothing would happen. I did get into recovery mode once,
but after rebooting, I couldn't anymore. I am able to enter download mode, though. But when I saw no point in that, I held the power button once again to shut my phone off, and some strange grey stripes appeared all over my screen . I added the picture of the weird stripes below.
In download mode, the info in the left top corner says: Product name: GT-I9300 - Custom binary download: No - Current Binary: Samsung official - System status: Custom
I don't think its SDS because I can still see the product name. I am not an expert in this stuff but when I used odin, I got this result :
<ID:0/003> Added!!
<ID:0/003> Odin v.3 engine (ID:3)..

<ID:0/003> DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!
<ID:0/003>
<ID:0/003> Re-Partition operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
So to be clear: when I charge my phone when It's off, I get the weird stripes, when I boot it, I get the weird stripes, when I try to enter recovery mode or safe mode I get grey stripes.
The only thing that doesn't get me grey stripes is download mode...
I am really desperate right now and I even used a custom pid for my GT I9300 but to no effect...
I obviously have no warranty anymore and don't want to pay alot of money to fix my phone...
I am concerned about my data though, I recently added some very important files to my phone, but I did not back them up since I didn't see this coming.
You should also know that my internal storage was almost full (like 98-99%) and I was planning on transferring my photos today ( I really hope that wasn't the cause of the problems...).
I hope someone can help me or at least point out what is malfunctioning and tell me if I will lose my data.
Thanks in advance

I have seen loads of identical threads with same issue as yours example >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/problem-white-screen-black-lines-rain-t2467459 << none ended with a software fix:crying: EMMC failure I recommend a Service repair......

As the title says, today I tried updating my phone to the latest firmware. Samsumg Kies downloaded the new firmware, and the update was going. After it "finished", it said:
"SGH-T959 could not be upgraded
1. Detach and reattach the mobile phone's battery.
2. Reboot the mobile phone, and then try the upgrade again."
So I did all it asked, to go into Emergency Recovery, and my phone does not go into the mode. It's stuck on this black screen with an image like this (Phone .. ! .. PC).
Any help would be much appreciated.
Some other info: I've never done any fancy work on this phone, such as rooting, etc. The only time I touched its firmware was using the Samsumg Kies before to upgrade to 2.1 or 2.2, whatever is the latest one right now.
UPDATE!:
So after trying many times with Odin, and doing the download mode thing, I decided to run Samsung Kies again. In the Emergency Recovery it told me to press the UP and DOWN volume button, but never really explained how. It didnt specify that it was trying to put me into download mode.
So, I went into Samsung Kies, did the STEP by STEP of going into Download mode of this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848737. The Emergency Recovery mode started working into Kies. I now have my phone back up and running.
NOTE: My screen setup was changed. I had only 3 tabs and now its back to 7, and the apps arent in place (BUT THEY ARE ALL HERE!).
Thank you laylovj for your time and all the help!
SOunds like a softbrick. You better hope that you have backups of everything cause you might have to ODIN back to stock firmware.
I don't mind losing everything, as long as I get it working. Mind pointing me out to a good guide?
Thank you.
Use the ODIN 1.7 from

I was about to post about that when you edited it. It does not go into download mode. I will try as soon as the JFD download is done. Thanks so far!
So I downloaded Odin and all the other files. Did the whole thing of going into download mode, even though it didnt change the screen, in Odin, it seemed to recognize my phone as a yellow box showed with 0:[COM4]. The only files that were able to be chosen were PIT and PHONE. When I clicked PDA, no file appeared, and neither did CSC and ETC. So I clicked START, and its now stuck on SetupConnection. It's been there for about 5 minutes now, is this normal?
Also, before upgrading to Froyo, try out some custom roms if you're feeling brave.
And if this ever happens again, pull out battery first, then remove the USB to avoid it again.
Can I fix it first then do a ROM after? I did want to do it before, because my phone was freezing at random times doing basic stuff, but I was afraid it would brick my phone. But right now it can't get any worse lol
I just want it to work, if it works, i'll try a different ROM.
Update: I did the Odin again, and now I got "<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0).
Wont go any further then that.
Wait so you didn't choose a PDA? Did you extract the JFD zip file? You weren't supposed to.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere I needed to extract, but guess I was wrong. So this time I re did everything, and was able to select the PDA file. I clicked start, and this is what I got:

UPDATE:
I am now trying with another version of Odin3 (v1.00 now), and so far I got this:

<ID:0/005> Odin v.3 engine (ID:5)..
<ID:0/005> File analysis..
<ID:0/005> Get PIT for mapping..

Stuck there.
care to screen shot your Odin setup?
Odin 1. tends to get stuck there....battery pull and try again.
Here it is:
http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/9307/odindk.jpg
Like I said, try a battery pull and do it again and I do recommend 1.7..much safer. Try it again with 1.7.
Tried once again with v1.00 and it kept getting stuck at cache.rfs.
So I tried twice with v1.7 and I keep getting this:
<ID:0/005> Added!!
<ID:0/005> Odin v.3 engine (ID:5)..
<ID:0/005> File analysis..
<ID:0/005> SetupConnection..

<ID:0/005> cache.rfs
<ID:0/005> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
EDIT: Could I try another PDA and PIT file? How does another ROM would work? Is it just other files in the place of these PDA and PIT files?
Try redownloading the files...I really don't know what else to say.
-DO you get a different [COM#] if you try to go to download mode than if you hold the power button? (should come up as warning still)

Hello,
after a reboot of my device it was frozen at the Samsung screen (not that with S -> before)
Actually it displays me where I can see a Phone ... ! ... Computer.

Samsung KIES have a connection timeout and Odin3 (1.85) stucks.
What can I do?

Have you put a pit file in odin, then you have to check repartition box. If not then do never check repartition box. All 3 parts firmware normally have a pit file.

Remove battery and put it back in, put phone into download mode and flash firmware with Odin.
Odin stops after "NAND Write Start!!". 1 hour later, it still shows "NAND Write Start!!". In download and "Screen of dead" mode are these errors.
But i have actually a bigger problem.
The phone doesn't start.
Power key -> screen is black.
Download mode -> screen is black.
Recovery mode -> screen is black.
Battery change does not help.
Battery is fully charged.

No, for my device I have only 1 file (PDA).
But, I can't start it. Is there a "master reset" or something else?
Hi,
Im gonna try to make this as short as possible for an easier read:
I had CyanogenMod 10.1.x together with CWM 6.0.29
It was working flawlessly untill today.
My battery was at roughly 8% and the phone freezed, i pull the battery out, put it back in and tried booting, didnt work. I connected to charger and waited for it to charge.
After it charged, I went to Recovery mod, it said this at the bottom:
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
I tried wiping the cache, it freezed in the process
I tried factory reset, it freezed in the process
I tried wiping the dalvik cache...it succeded!
Tried rebooting, nothing worked, it just kept rebooting to the yellow triangle (had that yellow triangle since the first flash), it wont go any further.
Went into download mode, tried flashing the same CWM with Odin, it freezed at NAND Write Start!!
Tried to flash it again...let it run for a while and it managed to to the entire process, but the outcome is a FAIL:

So now the phone wont even go into recovery mode, only download mode still works...When I try and power it on normally, it just freezes at the yellow triangle screen, it doesn't even reboot
Please help
Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting' thread. Find it. Try the stuff in the thread as many times as you need to in order to get the phone working normally again (it should be recoverable).
So it's just a question of how hard will i try? I find it kinda unreal that the success of ODIN flash depends on how many times you try.
Yep. In many of these cases perseverance fixes it. For whatever reason (as an example), the first 8 flashes fail, the 9th one works, etc. Also, the first thing I would try is flashing a 3 part firmware which will wipe your phone & hopefully remove whatever remnant is causing the bootloop.
Seconded for the flashing of a 3 part firmware. You can find a link to a suitable one from my guide that MistahBungle said.
Sent from a galaxy far, far away
So I've tried flashing the 3 part firmware...and it freezes at <ID:0/006> data.img
...So I should just keep on trying untill it succeeds?
What about battery? Before this whole situation the battery was at ~80%, and I can't charge it now...the picture of empty battery appears but there is no animation of it filling up (it freezes)
If my battery dies in the middle of Odin flash...wouldn't that completely brick my phone?
So my phone was working fine last night before I went to bed, woke up this morning and it was blank. I assumed it was a dead battery so I chucked it on the charger and when I came back to it 30 mins later it still only had the empty battery icon with the wait indicator (But the wait indicator isn't moving at all) and nothing else. When I turn it on it gets to the "Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100" screen and remains there. I can't get into recovery mode at all (it just brings up the same frozen SGS II label screen). I can however get into ODIN mode but can't flash anything.
Before it died I was running a rooted stock ICS firmware. I tried removing the SD & SIM just in case it was one of those causing the issue but no additional luck.
I have been very slack and haven't taken a backup of the phone in quite a while and recovery of the files on there is my main objective. If I can't use the phone again I don't care, so long as I can get the files back.
In ODIN mode I tried flashing Siyah and CWM but it fails:

I also tried making a USB Jig to get it into factory load mode but I get the same results. Any file (Bootloader, modem, PDA) that I try to flash hangs at NAND Write Start!!
Phone shows no change at all when the file is being loaded to it, no progress bar etc.
Really hoping someone can help me so I can at least get my files from the device. Is there any way I can remove the internal "SD" card or access it directly from a PC?
Anyone??? I really need to get some files from it.
I do believe that ICS had a hard brick issue... Why were you even using ICS when there's official jelly bean ?!

Code:
*** Trouble Shoot for all Odin Packages... Read below... ***
If your phone is not being recognized by Odin, try the following.
- Use a different USB computer port
- Use a different USB cable
If for some reason Odin does ever give you a FAIL or the process hangs up for more than 5 minutes in one spot then do the following.
- Pull your battery out of your device and leave it out.
- Plug in your device via USB cable and connect it to your computer.
- Then boot into Download Mode (hold 1 on physical keyboard and press power).
- Run the Odin package.
- When completed and you get the Green PASS, you can pop your battery back in and then reboot the phone and you should be good to go.
Note: Some devices have given some trouble and you have to attempt this twice to get it to work. Also make sure all anti virus software is off/disabled. One last option is remove your sdcard if everything else fails.
Please help, my S3 suddenly stuck at Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-1900 screen. Tried to press Home & Vol Down buttons together but no response.
Plug it in, hold just the power button for 10-15 seconds. If no response it's dead. If you get the samsung logo you should be able to get download mode so long as your volume keys work.

Corrupt or locked bootloader or firmware mismatch (device or carrier). Are you sure you have an I9300?. Check the sticker inside the battery compartment. Make sure it has I9300 on it.
If it is definitely an I9300 then I'd go with corrupt or locked bootloader. Is the device locked to a carrier?. Are you sure that the firmware is the correct one for your carrier?.

Awww, I'm sorry, my device is I9305. I tried downloading firmwares for my device and got a PASS status at Odin, but still stuck at Samsung S3 screen after auto reboot. My device also is not locked to a carrier.
Any other options please. Thanks again.
You need to flash the i9305 firmware. I9300 and I9305 are two totally different phones with totally different firmware. What or who on earth made you believe that I9300 firmware would work on an I9305..

Sorry this is just my first time to do something on phones, I was just advised by a friend to get help here on this site.
If you get a pass after flashing with Odin, make sure to perform a factory reset before booting the phone for the first timer with the new ROM.

Exactly, but usually you must flash, wipe, flash again to get rid of any old data.

Hi Audit,
How can I get to factory reset option before booting? Thank you.
Try this:
open Odin and uncheck everything excepf f.reset time;
flash the stock ROM;
when you see the word "reset" in the status window, remove the USB cable from the phone, remove the battery, wait about 5 seconds, replace the battery;
boot into recovery mode by pressing the home, volume up, and power button. When the phone starts to boot, let go of the power button but not the home or volume button;
when the phone boots into recovery, perform a factory wipe; and
reboot the phone.

Just to add, removing the battery and replacing it may cause the phone to boot automatically. In this case just pull the battery again and when you reinsert it the screen should stay black. If not, keep doing it. THEN you can safely get to recovery.
When you get the blue "pass" in odin the phone should reboot automatically. If it doesn't just wait 10 seconds and pull the cable, then pull the battery or hold the power button for about 20 seconds.

I think my phone is completely bricked because previously it is showing battery charge when i plug it in but now the screen shows zigzag white & gray colors. Anything else I can do? Thanks again.
Try another *good quality* usb cable. * = not a cheap crap cable, one supplied with a device.
As the last port to call, flash a pit file for your specific model.
In all honesty I'll tell you that the pit file may break your phone permanently (most likely) or it could just as easily fix it. The partition information table is "missing" and usually indicates hardware failure. The 'fuzzy screen' is another indicator of a totally buggered phone.
