Anyone having abnormally high cell standby under battery usage?
I mean even higher than screen. Any fixes?
Yes. Several people are talking about it. Turing off WiFi calling and WiFi might fix it. It's a 5.0.2 issue.

Yup, mine burned through about 20% battery in about an hour with incredibly small amounts of use. Cell standby has been at the top of the list since I started using the Edge. Hopefully this gets fixed ASAP.
Update: It may be WiFi related.
I've been on LTE all day and cell standby doesn't even show up anymore in the top 8.
Is the "charge to full" step absolutely necessary? Only wondering because I turned off Wifi and haven't seen much of a change. That would kind of suck if I have to leave Wifi off all the time to get decent battery life.

I'm sure issue will get fixed on a update. Keep in mind phone is technically not being released until April 10th. We are the lucky ones!
I've had massive battery drain today, but for some reason I don't even see cell standby in the list of battery stats. Any idea why that might be?

Attached. Also, I swear when I posted earlier, cell standby wasn't in the list, but it is now.
Screen-on time when I took these was around the 1:50 mark. Also, I'm a little concerned with how much energy Google Services is taking up...
Google Services should not be that high. The phone may need to settle.
I got over 4 hours of SOT with screen set at about 80%. Pretty happy.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Also lo and behold, after a few hours with Wi-Fi on, standby usage is way up...
I'm experiencing the same issue guys. This is frustrating i even did factory reset and turned of wifi calling. it doesn't seem to help.
2 hours 37 min SoT.
Good cell signal all day too. Never dropped off LTE. And stronger speeds than my Nexus 6. Weird!

Based on the reviews and the lack of an actual explanation of what it does, it looks a little too sketchy for me.
As an aside, it looks like the real culprit for high standby usage might be VoLTE, not Wi-Fi. I turned off VoLTE, turned on Wi-Fi, charged my phone to 100%, then left it on battery overnight to measure standby. I only lost about 10% over seven hours, and according to battery stats only 1 - 2% was actually standby. The rest was Google Services and some other stuff.

Same case happened after I turned off VoLTE and wi-fi calling.
6% battery drain for 7 1/2 hrs standby with wi-fi on.
Cell standby accounts for 1% of battery usage.

Will be trying this tomorrow (no VoLTE, but WiFI on).
I'm on AT&T, same issue. Cell standby is a 24%. I took my phone off the charger at 7:30 AM. I was at 37% at about 5 o'clock with very light usage. Charging now to get through the evening.

I decided to do a "best case scenario" test, and see if some of my battery issues were from apps gone awry, or some other drain. I pulled my phone off the charger right after it went green, and let it sit on the table. Wifi is off, BT is on, and I'm using my airave, so the signal is a full 6 bars all the time. I have 3 email accounts configured. Two of them are direct push, and one is an IMAP poll once every 15 minutes. Few, if any, emails were received during this test. The breakdown is like this:
4hrs, 32mins on battery. Battery currently at 92%
Cell Standby: 33%
Phone Idle: 32%
Display: 23% (the display was only on for about 30 seconds of the entire test)
Bluetooth: 4%
Maps: 4%
Android OS: 4%
So at least i know there isn't a process running that is making my battery next to useless. My battery seems to be getting slightly better with each day of use, but I still can't wait for the extended battery/cover to be released. I really got used to that on my Evo.
Dave
that sounds a lot better than my setup.
I went from a full charge to 50% with very light usage in 8hrs . I've been asleep for over 7 hours.
Display: 29%
Cell Standby: 27%
Phone Idle: 26%
Android OS: 7%
Voice calls: 5%
Maps: 5%
However, I have horrible reception in my house, even next to the windows. All's fine as soon as i step out the door.
I've found that a weak signal has a dramatic affect on battery life with these phones. They do so much syncing in the background, and it takes so much longer with a weak signal (not to mention it has to transmit at a higher power). The signal makes all the difference.
Call sprint and get yourself an airave! They gave me mine for free.
Dave
do you guys have the display setting on auto or low brightness. My display usage is always through the roog. I am getting decent battery life. I turn 4g off usually and just use 3g unless I am gonna watch youtube videos or sometihng.
I unplugged the phone at 7:15 this morning and I have email, facebook all syncing. wifi off and I am at 92%. So far this phone is being very good at battery life, specially after the first few cycles.

I have mine set at a number. I use a program to change my brightness at night.
7.5hrs & 70% battery left!!
Is it better to have the brightness automatic or a number like 30 percent?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
I just use auto brightness, I had about 11 hours use and 80% remaining taking a bunch of pictures, a little navigation and texting. This is with wifi on about half the time.
My battery was crap for the first three days with the phone, after calibrating the battery and giving it a few cycles its been really good for me. I do top off the battery usually before I pull it off the charger for the day.
I have mine set to auto and I see it changes even as I'm typing this message. Truth be told, the battery does drain when we don't have good signal...

Auto brightness us worse for your battery. This is because it has to use sensors every set time interval to check the lighting. It's not a TERRIBLE drain, but over the course of 4-5 hours it would probably save you 5-6% if you set it something lower .
And to the other person who asked, your battery life is SIGNIFICANTLY lowered when you have poor signal. What happens is your phone's radio draws extra power when it has poor reception in order to boost its range/signal. For those of you who work in places with poor signal, I bet you can attest to this
Also, I have a few battery tips in my signature if you're interested in more. It's slightly outdated (as in there are more methods now), but everything in the article is still true

How many cycles have people run on their batteries? IE full to dead?
I have auto brightness, GPS on Bluetooth on, email sync every 3 hours, weather sync evey 3 live wallpapers, and I forget the rest. Battery lasts me 12-24 hours, which is about what I got with my Hero modded out with setcpu and etc. I like the battery life of this phone.

My phone died in about 6-7 hours of steady drain, then I calibrated by doing the same thing they told us to do with the OG evo.
Charge over 8 hours, turn off the phone charge another hour, turn the phone on charge another hour.
I top off by using the phone for a couple minutes, then putting it back on the charger until full. The phone clearly goes down to 95% from full while charging and back up, I like how on this phone you can see that it does it on the battery graph so you know.
I've had my phone off the charger for like 34 hours and I'm at around 48 percent battery remaining. Not heavy usage but not super light either.

69% as of now. I had to reboot today so I can't say this is average. I know there are issues that can't be fixed until root, but as a stock ROM, it seems the power management isn't half bad.

Sense has always been pretty good about power management (especially when you consider the puny batteries they put in their phones), and an asymmetric dual core processor definitely doesn't hurt haha
2 days? I had a full charge in this at 6 am, now i just got a 14% low battery alert at 2:28pm...
Is this normal? I am not doing anything unusual at all, did not use it to make a single phone call, and am at work so ive only checked it a handful of times today...
what have yall experienced here??? this seems ridiculous!
Well took my gear s off charge at 7:30am and have checked it at regular points through the day including showing it off to work people and it's not 22:37pm and I still have 67% left of the battery so mines about right...
I have thus set to do Gmail, Facebook, Instagram, sms, twitter and a few other notifications so gets used fully through the day.

hmm....
i just brought up the list of running apps and found that the music app was still open (though on pause) from this morning.
i have a hunch, playing or not, that if you leave the music app open in the background it may be the source of the battery drain.
no, i do not have the clock face set to always on as well. just music app running in the background on pause.
i'm hoping this is it, though since i killed tasks i went from 14% to 1% in as many minutes. I'm guessing not...

After i re-charge i'm going to try this:
Update on Battery Life for me
HUGE day of use primarily with notifications and texting. Up and fully charged at 7am and now at 5:30pm I'm still at 48% battery.
On Wifi
BT Tethered
Clock off
Brightness at 60%
Vibrate/no sound
GPS Off - which I think is a HUGE key to success. No need to have it on unless needed anyway.

TY! looks like it was already off though...
what does it mean:
Location - "gps only" ?
If it means to say location = gps, its a bit confusing...
additionally, the feature i disabled that so far has helped is the mute/pause motion option. This one option seems to be the culprit for my 100% - 0% in 8 hours issue. I'm never enabling that feature again! holy cow!
Just did my first full run down on the battery without charging, been running since yesterday morning and am down to 8%, so less than 48 hours so far, but still two full work days. I can at least forget to charge once in a while.
Not as good as my Neo's 4 dayss, but better than the 12 hours I was getting on the Moto.

Battery life for me is about a day and a half. I set the face to watch just to display black and white numbers I put a black background and that really helps. You don't need the full color watch background that drains a lot of battery when you decide to lift it up and down.

gonna give that a try. this thing is getting crazy good battery life after its 6th full charge. after 13hrs yesterday with notifications, email reply's, multiple phone calls (two calls of 20 plus minutes) the damn thing had over 60% left. that's with GS to N2 via BT.
Battery life is getting better, been on for 14 hours and still at 75%
At work 13.5 hours and I'm at 51%. Turning off the wake up motion helped me today, and running tethered to my phone helped (although I will not keep doing that), biggest help was not running with gps (but this will not be a normal occurrence). I'm going to run with phone remotely connected and gps running tomorrow and see what just having the wake motion off will do for me.
6-7 hours on GSM
Most of the posts specify battery time while using it on BT thethering.
However I like to use it as a basic phone, no worrying about carrying everywhere regular phone.
Of course I have a phone in a bag (just for case, battery!, for emails, and browsing).
- So, when using it for regular talk it lasts from 9.am to 3p.m. Specifications:
a) about 1 hour talk
b) 2 sms
c) GPS Off, WIFI off, Move ON, not installing extra apps
d) BT and SONY SBH52 ON
This is not enough.
Charging is fast - (with no connecting to plug) i can get 50% batt in 30 minutes.
I'm not exactly sure what is causing it to drain like this. I'm assuming it's not supposed to be this bad otherwise nobody would be using it.
Strange. ..
No bother here, AOD I have no use for especially with extra battery drain.
It can't be the AOD. I've been playing around with this since your post yesterday. I've been unplugged since before 6am and it is now after 1pm here. Battery usage is saying I've been unplugged for over 7.5 hours. In that time, I've used 15% with 7% in the last three hours. Since then, I've had AOD on, watched a few youtube videos, listened to music from the SD card for about an hour, checked email and texts, checked G+ a couple of times, and scrolled through Instagram. Phone idle is reading 4% usage, Android OD is 2%, Google Services 2%, Screen 2%, Music 1%, Android System 1%, Youtube 1%. Which leaves a few mystery processes that didn't register enough to warrant a 1%.
Hi,
Make sure in aod settings that brighter display is not enabled. I agree with the previous post that since having the phone for a week and a half that aod is very minimal on battery usage. Personally I think it is a great feature since there is no led to show missed text or emails. I just glance at the screen to see if I missed any without having to unlock the phone.
Thanks,
Bryan
AOD might take 10% over 8 hrs at most. You def got something else happening.

phone idle 39% then second is android OS at 31%
39%? You definitely need to look into what else is running because I can tell you it isn't AOD. I get about 1%-ish per hour for phone idle.

Do you recommend something? Nothing tells me in detail to what is causing the discharge. My phone is not rooted and I don't really plan on doing it. Now it's saying idle 55% and Android OS 41%
No idea what to tell you to look at. I just know that I'm running AOD my phone sips 1% of battery over an hour's time if I leave it alone. There's something else going on with your phone when it idles.
Personally, I'd do a master reset ... if it continues - and not associated with an app - trade that sucker in for a new one.
Okay so this may sound odd and I can't officially say it's related but I disabled google's location history on my old phone and so far there's a noticeable difference. I will test it at night when I go to sleep. Usually by the morning 30% of the batter is drained.
Did you try to disable all google syncing?
This is really weird. I just checked my phone and I've had it off of a charger for the past 9 hours. I'm only down 10% battery and only 3% phone idle battery usage. I checked my google location history and that's turned on as expected.

So I left it the same way I normally would over night and this time it drained 9% instead of the usual 30%. Although the usage still says 41% on idle. I don' t know what's going on. I may have to do a factory reset as suggested by someone else
I noticed something weird. If you've got sync on for all of Google services but have each app (Like Drive, Etc) setup to update on Wi-Fi only, it might keep it attempting to sync forever. I went into each individual app and changed to update over Wi-Fi and data. Then the sync completed. Not sure if this is relevant but I thought it worth looking into if you've got sync on.

How's your battery on regular Pixel 6? Can't post any data from my side, as it's still being dispatched....
with my normal phone usage I am ending up with about 30-40% at the end of the day. With my Pixel 5a I still got about 60% juice. I cannot complain. I've seen wild differences on youtube from others (both good and terrible).
My battery life seems to be just fine.
Mine seems fine, it's been idle more than anything and it'll probably be that way since I try not to use it too much. When I'm at work I can't really use my phone anyway, so I expect battery life to be strong.
I also have a battery app that monitors usage and health of the battery if anyone is interested.

Yes I am. I only charged it once to 100 even though I know that's not good, but for first time I think it's ok.
I'm not sure i have enough stats to show since I've only used the app once to charge, but happy to share whatever info you need. Just let me know which screen to grab and I'll post.
comparison. Over 8 hours is pretty good.
I guess I can't complain.
Im getting about 9 hours of SOT. Using accubattery and this is while using youtube TV along with bluetooth (not using battery saver at all). The battery life is great on the pixel 6 pro and its a bit better than my s21 ultra.
proof
I'm guessing my stats are good? Idk where it got 4 sessions over the last 4 days from, but I installed the app yesterday and had it charged at 100% around 3PM. From then on I would use it randomly, mainly using chat through IM apps. I haven't done anything super battery heavy yet. I'm at 8% as I sit and write this...
Dayum. That's some iphone 13 pro max stats there lol.
It all depends on the connectivity, e.g. @android_dan is using 5G which is battery hungry, and also network reception is really low here.

I hope they will fix that soon.

Even on 5G I have no complaints about battery life. I'm getting up at 4:30 am and going to bed at 10:30 pm with 20-30% battery. We've had some weather delays so I've been on the phone a lot throughout the day. No complaints here.
So I am using my P6 for 3 days and battery life is amazing when screen is on (I can get like 12 hour of sot if I would spend all day looking at my phone), but idle usage is pretty high for me - getting like 3-4% per hour while screen off on LTE, 2g disabled, AoD disabled.
Is anyone experiencing the same? Or maybe I still need to wait for Adaptive Battery's magic?

I get 5% drop over night while I'm sleeping and connected to wifi. All apps closed in the background. I don't think that's too bad in my case. Definitely let things "settle" after the first few days of use. I've seen lots of improvement in battery after having the phone for a week.
I tend to get thru a whole day no problem! I turned network preferences to LTE cuz my area doesn't have great 5g and I don't find it slow at all. And I'm on wifi most of the time anyway. At the end of the day I have somewhere between 7-9 hours SOT which is amazing! I watch lots of YouTube videos and listen to music throughout the day. Hope this helps!
for me, the battery is a tragedy, it drops in my eyes, I was able to get a maximum of 4h sot. On average, I have 2.5 to 3.5 hours of sot. I have a recommended 4G network set. I use 2 sim.

I have huge drain from mobile network standby. View attachment 5449413
I tried many different things and seems that the problem is with esim card.
I hope they will fix that soon.

I am afraid that it will not happen, Google has always not paid attention to e-sim activities. Pixel 5 running 1xsim + e-sim lost animations, they never made it better

They're actively looking into the battery drain issue, and some folks have had success with doing a factory reset.

I was able to find out what was causing my phone to be active and never enter a deep sleep, which has improved the battery drain I was having. I'm still not sure why mobile network standby fluctuates on me; sometimes it'll be as low as 3% and others in the 20 when I'm not doing anything different at home.
I have had the Pixel 6 for a week now and I'm very disappointed. My biggest disappointment is by far the battery life. I can barely get through an 8 hour work day before it dies (Note: this is with zero WiFi use). After 8hrs I'm typically at 10-20% battery or dead. The mobile network standby is slaughtering my battery life. It uses a consistent 25-35% of it everyday. I also seem to have a lot of weird bugs.
-I get occasional system UI crashes
-randomly I'll lose signal where I always have signal and have to turn it off and back on or reboot
-auto rotate I have to frequently shake my phone for it to work
-camera quality seems terrible. My photos are almost always blurry. My OnePlus 7 Pro takes much better pics.
Update: The 8hrs is total battery life not SOT. My SOT is like 3-4hrs average sometimes worse. My phone use also stays in a 6ft area all day. So I'm not like in and out of service. I also make no calls during the day.
Update 2: I've had 5G disabled all day and I've had 3.5hrs SOT and have 45% battery left and it's the end of my work day. I'm happy with that number. Still having weird OS issues like system UI crashes, Spotify pausing randomly and it not working with the Google assistant. So I think I still need to do a factory reset unfortunately.
I am returning it also tomorrow.
I already did factory reset without any result.
Mobile network standby is killing the battery.
30% day and 60% overnight.
I tried everything without success.
Fingerprint Scanner also is terrible.
Bump.
I had big hopes for this phone.
Try clearing system cache.
Try a network reset.
Try safe mode to rule out 3rd party apps.
Try turning off any power management.
Use factory reset for; you did a major firmware update, for malware, damage to hidden users settings by a 3rd party app.
Otherwise the issues are likely to reoccur.
Try to find the root cause(s). Cloud apps can use a lot of power day and night. Trash apps like WhatsApp, FB, etc waste power and abuse privacy.

Damn, what carrier did you buy it from? I'm also disappointed in the performance of the finger print scanner. I was expecting that though and it works if you hold it. So that's not like a deal breaker but all the reviews I watched before purchasing were saying great things about the battery life. Google even advertises it as a 24hr battery life. Which I don't expect but I need to at least get to when I go to bed without charging.

From Media Markt.
I am using o2 Deutschland.
Tried different carrier also.
Tried esim and physical card also.
Tried every combo on network preferences.
Mobile standby mode is not dropping below 25%.

Have you installed the latest feature updates?
Do you use 5G and if not have you set your phone to use 4G instead?

I'm using 5G and will try doing that next. I don't really need the 5G speeds but I like seeing the icon lol.
Just got another system UI crash
Disabling 5G seems to have actually made my battery life worse. My phone is at 12% after only 8hrs of use..... Usually it's at like 20% after 8hrs.
So on WiFi my battery is amazing. In the past 3hrs with high brightness and over and hour of video and the rest on apps it's only gone down 6% So if the network standby issue can be fixed my battery life would be great.

Is it a joke ? Have 8hr SOT and crying ?!
Don't read too much into the two-hour "battery usage" percentages. They don't have any relationship to how much total energy was used - they only show the relationship to other tasks running during that two hour period.
For example, we can assume that the "Mobile Network Standby" power usage is pretty consistent if you remain in the same physical location and make the same amount of cell phone calls/texts. However the bi-hourly use % will be wildly different depending on how the phone was being used. For example, you are showing 66% Mobile Network Standby when the phone is sitting idle and not being used. That is to be expected because the phone was literally not used at all so there are very few tasks using energy during that period of time. If you compare another time when the phone was being used, the Mobile Network Standby might only account for 22% of battery use during a 2 hour period. The actual energy used for Mobile Network Standby was the same in both cases, but the % changes depending on what other tasks were using energy. It doesn't mean that it used three times the energy when it shows 66% vs when it shows 22%.
You can see this same type of battery usage detail for the last 24 hours by clicking the drop down menu "System usage for past 24 hours" on the initial battery usage screen. This will show a more accurate accounting of how much actual power each app and system process used in the last 24 hours. Unfortunately it is only for 24 hours and not since the last full charge, so it can still be a skewed number because it still doesn't show how much battery power was used, but only what % of total battery use each item accounted for. In other words, you could charge and totally drain the phone 3 times in a day, and the percentages would still look relatively the same vs someone that didn't charge at all during the day.
I suspect you will see your Mobile Network Standby number run about 20-30% when you look at this number.
Plus, your first set of battery use images show the phone using about 55% during an 8 hour period. The second set of images show the phone using about 75% over a 12 hour period. Of course we don't really know what type of use you really had during those times, but that isn't terrible. That shows the phone should last about 16 hours based on your usage.
You are also showing about a 10% decrease in battery life when the phone is setting idle for 8 hours. Honestly this is about normal battery life and you shouldn't complain about it. These phone are going to use a little more than 1% total battery power per hour when they are sitting idle and on cellular (not wifi only). If you are seeing 2-3% battery use per hour while idle, then you should be more concerned.
I have 11h40 SOT with the Pixel 6 and it is more than enough for me.
I loose 8.2%/h with the screen on and 2.7% with the screen off

This is from 93%.
I am taking in best case 4 hours sot.
All the other battery is drained by mobile standby.
I am loosing sometimes 4% with screen of and wifi turned on, when my old redmi note 10 pro loses 0%
I guess i get faulty phone.
But i am done with with pixels.
