Seems to be a bug with the messaging app on 5.0 update. Fully stock. I text my gf probably a hundred times a day, and now all of a sudden I can't text her as it keeps sending me a message, 'error invalid number' and it displays her number with an extra 1 added 11(xxx)xxx-xxxx. I checked her contact and it's correct... obviously.. as I've talked to her for a year now with this phone, same thread, same number, everything. Just all of a sudden started adding in an extra 1 while trying to send. I tried deleting all of my conversations, clearing messages cache, etc. I finally removed the initial '1' from her contact info, and so far so good. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this yet with the new update.
I remember seeing this problem in the "international" M8 forum, when that version was updated.
Check this out, probably the cause: http://www.androidcentral.com/text-...iling-morning-because-invalid-11-country-code
Yeah they claik its been fixed but. I'm still having issues sending mms messages to. Anyway to safely downgrade from lolli lol. I wasn't ready for issues but should of expected it.

Can someone please help me with my long going problem?
Intermittently, when replying to a text message (either in stock messaging or handcent, etc) the phone does not send the text message, and refuses to send for up to a minute after retrying, then the message will eventually send.
This has been happening for MONTHS, and I have had my HTC hero replaced through orange several times regarding the issue, as they had identified it as a handset fault. I then got a replacement SIM from orange aswell to try and rectify the issue, but shortly after registering my new SIM, the issue still occurs.
It seems someone in this thread has the same problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=665932
I tried the "fix", ie. making sure all numbers were in international number format (+44...) but this made no difference.
As I said, this issue is intermittent and RANDOM, but happens around 3 times a day. It is very frustrating especially when trying to reply to a text urgently.
Is anyone else having the same issue?
Before anyone asks, yes my message centre number is correct (+447973100973).
It only seems to be when replying to a text message, well that is when i notice it anyway.
Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks
I started to get this when I rooted to VR12, it did it alot the first couple of days then didn't do it much. I've now unrooted to orange 2.1, its done it twice in a week. It didn't do it at all on 1.5, maybe a coincidence. Location doesn't matter either.
I noticed this issue. I updated to 2.1 and found im having the same problem. Its intermittent so i cant tell what is forcing it to "retry". Only noticed this since going from 1.5 ---> 2.1.
I installed Darkstone's Froyo Sense v1 and just today gave me the error. Friend of mine actually mentioned it earlier today. We tested it a few times. When I sent him an mms, I got the error, but he still got it. The little envelope icon remained on my message. Tried it again with another friend and same thing, but after 2min the message was sent.
I had the same problem.
I fixed it by entering the service number in the service-menu of the radio. DIAL *#*#4636#*#* and you will see the menu comming up. Take the upper option. Scroll down and update your servicenumber there. While you are there check if the prefferd network is " gsm auto prl" instead of "wcdma". It can save some power.
Goodluck.

Hi mcall_r
just wondering if any of these suggestions fixed your problem as I'm having the same issue. mach2005 where do you get the service number from to enter?
Me too!
Hi,
I've been having this issue too. Along with all the other bugs introduced with 2.1 it's been driving me nuts.
The issue seems to occur intermittently and with a variety of numbers. Normally I get the notification sound, a text icon with an exclamation mark in the notification bar and the text 'unable to send text message'. After a while it normally resolves itself and the message is sent however with one number, my mum's, the problem always persists.
Initially I tried checking the message centre number, ultimately I tried a master reset, without any joy. Then I got a new SIM from Orange, which still hasn't resolved the issue. I can pop the SIM into another phone and send messages to her number so it's definitely the phone.
Just today I noticed that I had an unread text from 'Anon' deep in my message thread, which apparently had come from nowhere (I have observed this before). After deleting the thread I was again able to text my mum, is this just a coincidence? Seriously pissed off with this issue but hoping it is now finally resolved. The messaging in Android/Sense seems fubar, I've also had issues with it resolving to the wrong contact when selecting 'Send message' from another contact. Anyone had these same issues in combination with the 'cannot send text message' error?
When I receive text messages from my contacts, their "sent time" is always behind by 5 hours. The messages were not delivered 5 hours late. It's just the time on the message is displayed wrong. The message I replied to them displays the correct time.
My brother's vibrant seems to have the same problem. It's not a big deal, but it's quite tedious to read messages when they are not lined up in the right order.
When I odin'ed back to stock ROM, this error disappears. However, when I flash Axura, Obsidian, the new Nero ROMs, they all produce the same messaging time error.
Is there anyone else experiencing the same problem? Could someone help me out here?

I fixed the problem by downloading "SMS time fix" app from the market.
Apparently this error only happens to certain Rogers users in Canada.
I am getting SMS Error - Cause Code Addr.Vcnt.,0
I have only experienced this on sending International txt messages but when you send a long txt msg your phone normally splits the txt messages into the allowed txt size for example you can write up to 160 per message and if you go over your phone splits it into seperate txt messages instead of 1 but I tried to send one long message internationally and got the error code instead of splitting the message.
I have even tried doing this on shorter messages right over 160 like 161 it still gives me the error code. This is the first phone I experienced this on other phones it would split the message.
Has anyone experienced this or is there a fix, I wonder if sprint is aware of the problem.
Ok I called sprint and they Identified the error code right away. Stating that error is when a network on the other end does not accept msg over a certain amount of characters.
So the cause of this is motorola not Sprint, they stated they intentionally did not put in the software for splitting the msgs automatically when going over a certain amount of characters it keeps it as one big message.
The issue has been reported to them by various customers already and have gotten no response back from motorola.
Hopefully we can get an update on this soon
Try the handcent app. It will allow you to split messages. I'm using it on the photon now and it works great. Has a lot of customizable features, too. And, best of all, FREE!

Thanks I will give it a try , but still would be nice if Motorola would change this in their first update from sprint.

It is sprint. I will be on the phone and sms someone and get this error back. I am literally texting only hi or hey or test while I am on the phone and it is getting a failed error code 0.
I use Vibrant on the AT&T Network.
Recently I've been usin MIUI and Revamped flawlessly. They've been great.
Friday night MIUI (1.9.16) SS-6 came out, I was excited and did a full cache wipe+dalvik+factory fixed permissions and flashed. Went smoothly, no hic-ups, booted up and was happy. As I went through the day tho, I found out none of my SMS texts were going out. I would recieve but no one got any of my replies.
Strangely though I am able to send MMS messages. I know that they go out different ways so that would explain that.
I can make an recieve calls as well.
I've tried going back to SS-5, trying out LE-9, and Stock MIUI. (The current release and one previous.) Sadly the same result being unable to send SMS but able to recieve.
It does not have a continuous "Sending Status" it reports the messages as sent. With a timestamp.
Also tried sending from GoSMS, same result. I don't know if this problem has ever happened before.
Help is greatly appreciated.
Your message center number might be missing. Try the following method to look up and enter the number. Might be worth a shot.

07913121139418F0 Might be the number you have to add but you double check anyways.
Thank you very much. Solved.

I've been noticing that a good number of my sms cant be sent..I get the message saying failure. My phone has full reception so that isnt the issue. Some messages had to resend 2-3x till it went through. I am using the stock samsung sms messaging, if that matters.
Has anyone else had this experience?
TBH, I just experienced this yesterday, but not exactly the same, ie, it didnt say failure, just kept showing the loading icon next to the message.
I installed go sms and it works from there.
Not a fix however, but a work around.
In the end, i just wiped and reflashed from scratch and now the stock messaging app is sending again....
yeah for the most part its fine...but it has its hiccups at times where i'd have to resend a couple of times till it will finally go through.
I had this last week , turns out the sms center number had been deleted from options, once i readded the number it was fine, sorry i cant can get the exact name of that option because i dont have the phone right now, courier has just picked it up as im changing it due to the yellow screen tint issue
