Boost Mobile variant CDMA or GSM? - E 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How do you know if your phone is CDMA or GSM?
I have a Boost Mobile Moto E 2015 4G LTE (XT1526)
Is mine CDMA or GSM?
Thank you for the clarification in advance!

It's CDMA. Usually, someone correct me if I'm wrong, sprint and verizon use CDMA. at&t and tmo use gsm. Boost is a subsidiary of sprint. As far as I know, and again please correct me if I'm wrong, SIM cards indicate the device uses gsm except in the case of, for example, when the verizon 4g phones first came out they had a sim card. The phones are still CDMA, but use a sim card for 4g/lte. Also, some phones have been released in the past on verizon that have gsm capability built in but isn't used.

LTE is a GSM standard, hence why there is a SIM card slot.
Sprint's (Boost's) 2G and 3G still use CDMA.
Additionally, Sprint (Boost) uses LTE bands 25, 26, and 41, which I don't believe any other US carrier uses, so unless the other major bands are present but locked/hidden, you wouldn't be able to use it on any other carriers anyway.

When I manually set it to GSM only mode, I can do Emergency calls on GSM 900MHz 2G network here in Cuba.
after a while, the phone switches to LTE again.
there should be something that can be donde to force the GSM only mode

Sadly it's (XT1526)a CDMA variant while it does have a "sim" slot its actually a UICC slot to validate usage on the Sprint network. I'll see what I can find out about unlocking it for GSM. Oh by the way what part of Cuba are you from? My wife is from Centro Habana, born in La Lisa. [emoji4]

Following keenly. I have a Sprint Moto E in transit. Have you tried to unlock the bootloader and unlock the other network bands as detailed below:
Clicky to another XDA post
My Sprint HTC one E8 was locked to 2G after lollipop update, this helped to unlock the 3G part.

Will have to check all of that info and try, it is kinda intresting information, I have got few qulcomm phones here in Cuba which doesnt include 2G bands, only 4G, LTE, I would like to give those, a shoot also.
Have to study first all of the info.
thanks

And, as I said, the phone has the GSM 900Mhz band, because it is making the emergency call and is giving the operator Message, and for this to success the phone has to be connected to the operator via 900MHZ GSM, the unique Frecuency working in Eastern Cuba.

Hi how did you manually set it to GSM mode? I have a boost mobile for use outside the US but the wireless network settings are grayed out. Thanks

You can tell if your phone is GSM or CDMA by dialing *#06# on the dial pad of the telephone app. If your phone is GSM, it will show a unique IMEI number(s) which is 15 digits (and may be followed by a / and two additional digits). If you check under the battery of a GSM phone, you will typically see the IMEI number(s) there also. IMEI numbers are always labeled IMEI so you know that that's what you're looking at.
A CDMA phone does not have a 15 digit IMEI number. Instead it will show a MDEI number which is not 15 digits long. The number shown will also be labeled MDEI.

bueno, acabo de recibir un moto e xt1526 y lo puse a funcionar con gsm y lo logre con este
busca en google: habilitar bandas gsm en moto e 2da generacion, te saldra una opcion para el de verizon, pero dale con ese a mi me funciono.

[Q] Doubts about wcdma frequencies

Hi...
Mom bought for me a Htc Evo 3D Gsm at stmmiami last november i haven't
rooted my phone, it has all the ota updates, it's on Android 2.3.4, Sense 3.0,
software number 1.22.707.3, baseband version 10.55.9020.00U_10.13.9020.29_M .
I'm in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brasil, and neither with a Tim or Vivo sim the
Evo 3D is getting signals in wcdma mode only. In my old T-Mobile G2, both Vivo
and Tim sim are getting the "4g" signal. According to the Gsmarena specs of the
T-Mobile G2, it has HSDPA at 1700/2100mhz. And it gets the 4g.
And all the variations of the Evo 3D have HSDPA at 2100. So it should be getting the 4g.
At the back of the box, says HSPA/WCDMA 900/AWS/2100 Mhz.
Is it a question of baseband or rom ?
Any help ?
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Hi.
Just to update here.
At the testing menu *#*#4636#*#*, submenu phone information, pressing hard button menu and selecting radio band as Euro, and any other band, i don't get 3g/4g.
Even with Wcdma only and cyphering on or off.
The thing is that at my old T-mo G2 both Tim and Vivo sims get the 4g signal.

That's only because of marketing so technically you still have 4g but it should just say 3g to make sure test the speed on the g2 then test the speed on the evo.

It's not a question of speeds, here in Brasil speeds are limited by provider.
The thing is that it's not connecting on Wcdma/HSPA....
What frequency are your providers broadcasting at?

HSPA, Tim is at 850 and 2100, and Vivo on 2100.
And at a moment last night, right before i slept, i tried changing sims again, and the Evo
got connected at the HSPA network and showed the H icon. But, it haven't got the H
again yet. I did port my line from Tim to Vivo, but i don't think it's a problem as both sims
connect at the HSPA network on the G2.

Phone shows no service

Quick question
Just got a incredible 4g off ebay but it shows no service
Is it because it has no sim card installed.
I tought it's cdma and it doesn't need sim card to connect to cdma network.
I factory reset it and change to global mode / cdma nothing will make it connect to verizon network.

Using the Moto E LTE in Japan

I have US T-Mobile for my provider, and when I landed in Japan I didn't receive any cell phone signal, unlike other countries where the phone would hop onto a network and then I'd receive a text message from T-Mobile saying something like, "Welcome to [country]. Enjoy unlimited 3G and text messaging, phone calls are 20 cents per minute." Does the phone work in Japan? I took the phone to SoftBank because my wife's LG G3 was able to hop onto their network when we landed, but the guy at the counter said that the phone may not be allowed to work on the Japanese network, and to find out the regulatory information about the phone. He then showed me how to look up regulatory information on an iPhone, but the Moto E (as well as my wife's G3), didn't have regulatory information listed in the legal information menu.
Anyway, this is what Motorola lists for bands for the phone:
Moto E with 4G LTE - US GSM (XT1527):
GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS/HSPA+ (850, 1700 (AWS), 1900 MHz)
4G LTE (2, 4, 5, 7, 17)
Any help or suggestions is appreciated.
Thanks!
I took the phone to ntt docomo today, and they tested it out without any luck. However, my wife's LG G3 passed with flying colors. So now she's on the docomo network with one of their SIM cards.
First I'd suggest selecting 3g only in settings.

If that doesn't fix it, follow the instructions in the link below to create an alternate T-Mobile apn and try that. I've been in Osaka recently and I can't remember if my phone worked or not, I think I had to switch to my nexus 5 there, but I can't remember. Hope this helps. https://forums.motorola.com/posts/2fc3b123a0

Galaxy S6 Edge with C-Spire

Hello,I have a questioned im buying a galaxy s6 edge from c-spire can i connect ir to att , Tmobile,Verizon or any other carrier?
Best thing to check is if its unlocked from c-spire and you can compare the bands online between networks also.
formerly Cellular South? I believe you're going to be limited to a CDMA network. gl getting it activated directly with Verizon and especially Sprint. you can try their subsidiaries.
are you not able to get service with C-Spire? they roam off some of Sprint's bands and possibly some of Verizon's as well.

Moto E 2nd XT1526 GSM enabled - frequency bands question

Hello everybody and thanks for the opportunity.
I have a very specific question that yielded no answers while searching the web.
The phone is a Motorola MOTO E 2nd generation 2015 model XT1526, Sprint branded, originally CDMA capable.
This phone is unlocked and GSM enabled, although I don't know how that was done, that's how it came. I was able to select the Automatic network mode in settings and after checking the box it stopped pestering me about charges that may apply using GSM.
Here is the question that I wasn't able to find an answer to anywhere:
Does enabling GSM actually enable all GSM bands that the MOTO E is capable of, or just the ones that work in CDMA on this specific model.
In other words, did it just switch 800/1900 from CDMA to GSM or did it enable 800/850/1800/1900 GSM bands that the other variants of this phone is capable of?
The reason I ask is that I was able to connect to an AWS network (1700/2100) and the XT1526 definitely does not list that frequency band, while its XT1527 counterpart does indeed.
Thank you very much for casting some light on this issue.
I have only limited time to return it and I need to use this internationally, including 900/1800 GSM bands.
Its radio is capable of connecting to most GSM networks, but the phone is set up to block US domestic SIM cards from being used (phone will show "No SIM card" error when inserting an AT&T or T-Mobile SIM).
International use should be fine out of the box, as long as you activate the "UICC Unlock" option.
Thank you very much for your reply.
So, even though XT1526 is not advertised as being 900/1800 compatible it will actually be able to connect to an European GSM band?
I will try to Google UICC (never heard of it before), but I could use a pointer as to what unlocking it will achieve. UICC unlock seems to be a setting under system updates, from what I could find, but not related to frequencies.
Since I am unable to test GSM roaming before I can return it, I am trying to make sure it will work. Something was done to it, as I can select GSM under network settings, but it doesn't say which bands, hence my original post.
Thanks again.
According to FCC docs, the XT1526 (both the Sprint model and the US Cellular model) have:
CDMA B0, B1, B10. GSM B2 (1900), B5 (850). HSPA B2 (1900), B4 (1700/2100), B5 (850). LTE B2, B4, B5, B12*, B17.
However, I believe people here have reported that they've been able to connect to 2G GSM on 900/1800 in Eurasian countries, but had no such luck with HSPA.
