Anyone can guide me how to delete the default phone dialer? I want to use Google dialer but failed, I had a rooted s6 edge!
there are a few apks that handle this..you have to delete it with a update.zip script in recovery to get more info search in the HTC m8 forum for a complete zip..extract it and open the update script you can see what you must delete..names are a bit different I think..and you can use the files included to install the dialer...it's a bit of work through..

Ok I've done a little research on this but can't find what I'm looking for exactly.
I really don't like the Blur Contacts app. I have figured out how to filter things correctly so I only get my usual Google contacts but I'd still like to get one feature back that I had on CM - direct dial and direct text message shortcuts. They were supported through the AOSP Contacts app from what I can figure out. The Blur Contacts app has something similar but it doesn't work consistently. Does anyone know if it's possible to install the Contacts.apk and ContactsProvider.apk extracted from CM 6.1.1 (what I had on my EVO) and bring them over to my rooted Atrix?
I'd like a different contacts manager as well. This one combines services which is not what I want/need. Any suggestions that are similar to CM contacts on N1 would be appreciated!
+1 more here for a different contacts app.

Bump
I'd also love the AOSP dialer

I tired this few days ago, nothing worked. =/
Click install throws an error and says it can't be installed. Pushing the apk to /system just has no result.
Moto's contacts are terrible.
How to Install Android AOSP Apk, in any system.
Find the AOSP apps from a CM6 build by unzipping and pulling the .apk file like browser.apk. Install "File Expert" (Free and amazing file browser with full root access and alteration capabilities application)
Copy the .apk you wish to have on to your phones SD Card
Run File Expert,
hit menu/more/File Explorer settings. Then check "Root Explorer" on the bottom.
hit menu/more/mount/Mount As Read Write
Browse to /System/Apps Find the App you wish to replace with the AOSP version.
Hold Down on the App and when the options come up choose file operations and rename to something like application name.apk.bak
Browse to your SD Card find your app. hold down to choose file operation then choose copy.
Go back to /System/Apps then hit Menu button and choose paste.
Locate the app you just pasted and hold down on it and in file operations choose "permissions" Check Everything and exit out of File Expert
Note: You may need to redo the shortcuts for the app on your desktop and or launcher.
Note: Must have a rooted phone.
Note: 2.3.3 apps may or may not work on 2.2 Android Roms and vice versa.
Note: if this causes errors or failures delete the new apk and rename the old apk to its original name.
Good luck!!
can someone upload the contacts apks?

Download the latest Cyanogen mod for your phone or any. Unzip on your pc and go to the folder labeled system/apps. Get the apps you want from there and pass them to your phone via USB to your phone then follow my previous instructions.
I have already tried to install a different dialer/contacts app. I had no luck, I think that the stock dialer/contacts are to deeply tied into motoblur and the phone system. It won't break your system but you just will not have a dialer or contacts.
Did you try it to my exact instructions. Making sure to you the cyanogen mod that corresponds to your version of android? If it didnt show up on your list you may have tried the 2.3.3 instead of s2.2 dialer.
Oh, I would love to hear the solution to this. I have been trying to figure this out for a couple days now. I pulled Contacts.apk from a Liberty backup I have and have been trying to replace BlurContacts.apk with it to no avail. I believe someone above may have touched on it. Possibly to change when other things look for BlurContacts, and instead refer to Contacts.apk?
I have tried several different contact apps. None work I think that the blur apps are to deeply tied into the system to allow a change.

any progress ??

I've actually been using GoContacts. It seems to work like how I want my contacts to work(I.E like ASOP) plus allows for a little bit more tweakability.

For those like me who need corporate sync and like the blur universal inbox you can install just that portion of the moto bloatware instead of all of it.
** EDIT ** I'm adding a couple more applications now. Please, others jump in to do other applications because I'm out of time working on my Atrix for this week!
** WARNING ** I'm not an android dev and this process has only been tested on my phone. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
There are 3 files attached.
messaging.zip - restores original blur messagine apps, including corporate sync, txt messaging with balloon conversation mode, and the universal inbox. It does not have the messaging widget.
taskman.zip - if you liked moto's Task Manager app, this will restore it for you so you can kill tasks and uninstall like before GB.
gallery.zip - restores the moto Medial Gallery application. Note the GB version of Gallery will still exist and both will work.
Quick instructions:
* You will need CWM Recovery for this
* Follow CWM instructions exactly - especially the part about plugging into the AC adapter or it won't work!
**NOTE** this will also install the original blur txt messaging interface with the conversation balloon mode. Its all one application so no way around it that I know of.
1) copy one of the zip files (attached) to your sdcard root directory
2) run CWM according to instructions in its thread
3) after reboot into CWM select "Install zip from SDCARD"
4) select "Choose zip from internal sdcard"
5) scroll down to the zip file name (ex: messaging.zip)
6) select the file (power button) and run the update
7) go back to main menu and select "Reboot system now"
A few steps but doesn't take long. I just pulled these out of the gingerblur-bloatware.zip and figured out what file structure you have to leave in place for it to function.
Hope this will save people some time.

I think there's a bloatware restorer on the greyblur site. Try that.
Will that install it all back tho or will i be able to pic
well ill look at it and see if it can do only one thing
thanks i forgot about that
Alright so i found them in the files there how do i delete the new one and get this old one back on there? im so confused help!
Still have not figured it out some one help?
http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/d...-reinstall-deleted-system-apps-bloatware.html
That thread helped me how 2 install the files but i cant install them it tells me
Application not installed any clue how 2 fix this and remove the old one some thing? any one?
You need to download the messaging bloatware zip, reboot into recoverymode and use CWM to install that zip file... It's the same process as installing grey/gingerblur.
Well if i new where the messaging bloatware zip was i would try 2 get that
i know they have the full one with everything but is there one with only the messaging part? or some thing like that?
Well i tryed 2 just install the messager part and i soft bricked my phone just fixed that but still dont have the old messaging system
Go to the android development section and find the gingerblur thread (it shouldn't be difficult). Then go to the gingerblur website given in the thread and download the bloatware.zip. you will also need tenfars cwm recovery which is in the development section also. Then just flash the zip file using the cwm recovery guide. Make sure your phone is plugged into a wall outlet charger when you do this (not a computer USB port) or it won't work.

read this post. It explains how to do the opposite of what you want.
Summary:
-rename mms.apk to mms.apk.bak
-rename conversations.apk.bak back to converstaions.apk

Thanks for looking
First one to thank you! Trying this as im typing right now..
it's pretty useless without voice recognition
Getting a network error...any ideas?
My data is enabled.
This is working on most AOSP/AOKP.
Not working on stock or stock like roms.
Voice will not connect with servers and you will only get errors.
Its a work in progress.
It will install but you can only search by typing.

Is it possible to get a CMW flashable zip of this?
Just tested it out and it does load but the network issues and no voice search kill it a bit , but its got a future...
To revert back can I just make apk1 to apk?
Or do I need to uninstall something?
I couldn't find it in that thread.
On the last page someone asked the same thing but hasn't had an answer so I was wondering if anyone has done it here.

can you guys with the network error try this one (and log if possible)
push it to /system/app and replace the old one velvet apk if there's any.
what u can do is move the GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk to a folder you know in case you need to place back again, and download and move this one Velvet-theos0o to /system/app and set permission just close and try the search button on your cell phone after a reboot
Thanks
are you properly logged in etc. on other google services?

Delete the googleserachbox.apk in data/app then rename the one in system/app. After that reboot to recovery, clear cache and dalvik then fix permissions and reboot.
yeah just remove the 1 after apk and remove any other velvet or search apk u had place in that folder /system/app
Anyone think it's possible to implement the manager system from nexus mod manager or something similar to a recovery. For example, have it keep track of the mods you install and the files it changes and put an option to remove it where it removes the files that were editing and replaces them with the files that were there prior to installing the file? If it help nexus mod manager is open source allowing to view the source code and I believe all that is handled under the NexusClient under ModManagement. If someone can implement this it will make it a lot easier to manage the mods we install on top of the roms since the only way to remove mods currently is making a backup prior to flashing the mod or by dirt flashing the Rom on top and reinstalling other mods.

So you are simply stating having a program that automate a backup of the files yyou change? So instead of having to do it manually, as soon as you change something it makes a backup..

Similar. The way I see this working is to create a class that adds this support and have it create a temp file of sorts with everything that was editing and a list of files that were created and allowing it to backup the files that were replace so it can put them back when u decide to remove the mod and delete the extra files that were created. Doing this would make it easier for developers to implement this into the scripts used to install the mods and possible having installations split between roms and mods, having the developers define it in the script and if undefined have it follow the default install which should be roms. Defining roms and mods could possibly be done through if-else statements such as adding InstallAsMod or InstallAsRom on the first line of a script and on the recovery have it check if it says InstallAsMod or InstallAsRom on the first line and if neither have it follow the InstallAsRom code which could be an exact copy of the way the recovery currently works. Though those are just my thoughts with my very basic java knowledge, maybe someone else with more insight can give a better method. Also having something like a extra menu in the recovery that displays the installed mods and having the uninstall/removal process there. The problem I see with this would be with rom updates, they will make changes to the files causing issues with the uninstall option if the files where changed through the rom update.

Hi guys, before I start I'll say that I have searched all over the internet and here on the forums and I couldn't find my particular issue. Well the thing is that I edited the line in my build.prop "ro.build.version.codename=REL" to "ro.build.version.codename=L" so I could get the material design on the Google Now Launcher pulled from a Android L build here's the thread I got that app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-android-lollipop-apps-launcher-apps-t2912905
I did that and now my device will boot up normally then I will reboot by itself then show the boot animation then repeat the same process again and again until I force the phone to recovery or fastboot.
By the way my device is the LG Optimus G (E970) running GEE 3 ROM 1.2 and TRWP 2.6.3.0 and I have a backup of the original build.prop on my PC. I don't want to lose my data and apps since I forgot to make a backup (silly me).
I would like to know if there is a way to push the build.prop file on my PC to my phone so I could just replace it, or create a flashable zip.
Please help me, and thanks in advance.
Nevermind. I managed to push the original build.prop file to /system set the correct permissions and now my phone is working again.
Admin feel free to delete or close this thread.
