Is anyone else having issues with the GPS on the bang variants out there? Mine, SM-G925R, has issues sometimes (fairly often) where it'll be stuck somewhere. Seeming to be working but I'll be moving and it'll just stay there. Toggling location services doesn't even fix it.
Either after a few minutes it'll figure out I've moved and start working again otherwise rebooting the device has worked every time.
I'm probably going to swap it out for another one tmrw but I wanted to see if anyone else has had the same issue.
I was, but I had a metal bumper case...after I swapped it out for a plastic version its been spot on ever since. Are you using a metal case?

No case at all.
I'm having this issue as well. No case.

Hey,
I am having an issue with my almost brand new I9305 and I also had it on my I9300. And that issue is that when I close my cover on the phone and put it in its pouch that I carry in my belt there is the random odd chance that the phone will simply reboot for no apparent reason. Just today I heard it reboot, once rebooted i heard my text tone go off followed by another reboot. But is there some way to tell which app it is that crashes etc and thus takes the phone with it?
It can lay on my desk for hours with the cover closed with no issue. But the second I put it in that pouch it starts acting up and as I stated my I9300 did as well. But is there any way to tell which app is the culprit so I can delete it?
First off - what is your cover made of?
Make sure you have no cards in the pouch, especially not ID, public transport e.t.c which have NFC chips.
Is your phone by any chance undervolted or overclocked?

Not undervolted nor overclocked. Both the 9300 and the 9305 are stock, but rooted. And the pouch isn't like a wallet but move like a "pouch" you put the phone into and then a flap goes over that "locks" with velcro. But I only have the phone in it, nothing else at all.

Exactly same issue here: S3 randomly restarts while i wear it in a pouch. It can lay down in the same pouch - no restarts. I'm wondering if the pouch is too tight and power button is bein pressed sometimes? Just ordered another pouch to check this. My pouch has magnets. Can it be the reason also?
If you will find any solution please post here.
My pouch doesn't have magnets but velcro strips
It looks ...
I looks a little like an electrical contact which has problems after shocks - probably the contact on the battery? It might also be something on the mainboard, but that would be more tricky to test.

Have you tried to use another case or something like that? Maybe is the pouch... Which apps do you have installed anyway?
I had the same issue with one of those "leather-like" pouches. The description you mention about it with velcro, and a flap that closes over it sounds very similar to mine. I determined it was because of the flap pressing the power button. I couldn't find any other reason. And why does this happen when you're using it on your belt, and not when it's laying flat on your desk? Not trying to be offensive, but are you a little overweight?
In my case I discovered my belly was creating a little more pressure than normal on the pouch, so it was causing more pressure on the flap, and on the power button.
I had to go return the pouch to the store where I got it, and now I am looking for one of those plastic cases with a belt holster to replace it. :crying:
Curious how everyone else's phones have been holding up so far. The back of my phone is covered in little specks, which appear to be from pitting and minor surface scratches. It's very disappointing since I've had my phone permanently in a case since I've had it. I'm wondering if the metal is just so soft that little vibrations while in the case is causing marks.
I'm hoping there's a way I can get them out but seeing as it has a brushed finish, I don't see it being all that easy.
That's indeed pretty surprising (marks with a case on). I would think the only way this would be possible, is if there was some grit or sand between the case and the device. If this were in fact true, I can see it rubbing on the finish over time (as others here have also mentioned). Even so, the scratches would probably just be in isolated areas, not for the back to be covered in scratches, unless there was grit captured everywhere inside the case. Which is very unlikely, as you would have noticed that.
The other possibility is scratches from a hard plastic case (you haven't mentioned what kind you have). Again, this is something that some folks on here have observed. But folks have mentioned scratches in a few isolated locations (like the edges) not covering the back.
I have had a cheap soft TPU case on my M8 for a month and a half, and not a single visible scratch on the back, that I can find.
The dirt/sand certainly makes sense. But I've repeatedly taken out the case and cleaned it, and it appears like I'm getting more of these. The case, is a soft tpu clear case.
Further, I only rarely use this case once a day for an hour when I go to the gym. The rest of the time my phone sits in my leather pouch, which I KNOW there's no way that's scratching it.
It certainly shouldn't be getting marked up like this from such careful use. I'll try to post pics later.
Sorry for the linked images. You can download them to see full size. It's very difficult to capture up close. But you can see the specks all ordier the phone.

Anyone? I'm wondering if there's a defect in my casing and if I should ask for a new one or not. Combined with my letters falling out my resale value is definitely going to hurt by this.

Haven's seen anyone else complain about this. Its especially weird, since you have a case on the phone. I can only guess the finish is delaminating or falling off, regardless if any external wear/contact is present or not.
I'd say its a warranty issue, between this and the letters coming off. But you won't get a new one. AT&T's policy is that you get a refurb after 14 days of purchase. And I've heard mixed reports on the refurbs (on past devices). Some are indistinguishable from new; while others are beat up, or may even have some hardware issues that weren't fixed properly.
A refurb is exactly what I'm afraid of. I don't want to trade in a phone with cosmetic issues for one with potentially worse issues. Any way of getting them to send a new one? AT&T has been nothing short of great for me in the past but Idk about getting a new phone replacement.

Its not in their policy. But you can always ask . . . than complain, kick and scream, etc.
Its also not in their policy to let folks switch to another brand/model. But I've seen that happen when folks complain enough. Highlight how long you've been a customer, if you have multiple lines, etc. Not sure if they have ever sent out brand new phones for warranty claims. But it sure doesn't hurt to try.
Just thought I'd add, I'm having the exact same issue with the Google Play Edition in a clear TPU case too! Were you using a Spigen case by any chance?

Wow, strange, mine too, exact same case. I took the case off the other day to clean it, it was looking nasty, and sure enough there was like some kind of grit in there. I bet that's what's doing it. Of course that's the least of my worries, it fell out of my pocket and I ran this thing over with my tractor, and crushed the side so far that I had to pry out the volume buttons, they were stuck, lol, had tire marks across the screen even. This thing is a tough phone!

Haha, very nice. Good to hear it'll survive a tractor lol. I feel like I should leave a review on that case. It seems to be flawed if it's allowing grit in. I'd consider my use quite typical, not near any sand or dirt. I'm pretty sure that lost me $100 in resellability.
Anyone have a phone that creaks? Mine stated doing it today, no case since it's got the wireless charging back.

Hello,
What exactly do you mean with creak? I tried it right now, removed the case and applied a little force to the phone like trying to bend it (just like the iPhone 6 bending lol) and it did creak, seems to be the back case. it may be due to the plastic water resistant protection that is being pressed against.
My wife's phone does the same thing with her case on. It's something with her finger near the mic hole.
Well I may be the first to find a problem with the phone body, my wife and I both have cracks in the corners of our phones top side in the corners.
Phone has never been dropped, back pocket carry. Pressure test shows not sealed water resistant any longer.
I'm guessing the screen was faced inward, warming the glue while the chassis was flexing then eventually causing a crack in the plastic from the glass pushing up into it?
But lets not start jumping to hashtag conclusions. I would get creative and mask off the necessary areas and grab a can of plasti-dip.
jk or not.
One person's phone, "Ok...", but TWO? -From the same household?
What's the deal? Sorry, but I need a bit more info on both of your phone care /use practices before I make this an "official concern".
That's weird. I just use the Verizon TPU case and I've dropped mine a few times, but no damages. I inspected all around my phone for any similar damages to yours, but I have none.
Is that crack a big deal where it prevents the phone from normally functioning?
Mine has a small crack in the plastic corner like yours, although mine is from a fall. For some unknown reason the VZ holster / case set doesn't cover the corner properly. Moved to a different case now. It does not affect functionality or water tightness, but still annoying.

Never dropped mine, yet. It seems to affect the pressure values when in the pressure test mode.

Hm, it causes a normal water tight seal to leak.
Well that's not very good news.
I'm intrigued but I can't find a single review anywhere. Has anyone tried any cases like this one?
I'm not sure I see an advantage. Cases are cheap enough to replace as the plastic clips break, and the clips are seem more likely to stay together during a drop. A snap together case also doesn't have the possible draw backs of magnets near your phone. Have you read any of the reports of touchscreens losing responsiveness or not functioning at all in the areas near magnets (permanently) after long term exposure. There are also cases where it affects NFC functionality, as well as the compass depending on the positioning.

Had a magnet case for my note5, it caused the spen to stop working so I've steered clear if them ever since.

I have used a magnet case several years ago for one of my older Samsung galaxy devices. It was ok but today I prefer plastic cases.
Those mess up reception. I just saw a review on YouTube and it cought him off guard. The aluminum is what messes things up.

Sometimes I keep my phone in my pocket with cards that have a magnetic stripe.
I can't see that case and my cards in the same pocket resulting in anything good.
