S6 Edge Update - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I have been reading on a lot of websites that Samsung has released a performance patch that can improve battery life and fix RAM management issues on the device. I have been checking this for a while but cant find anything.
Build Number on my S6 Edge (64 GB) is G925IDVU1AOD1 and this is the default build i got without any update. I am in India.
Please suggest if there is any update in the queue which is released but not installed on my device yet. if Yes what is the best way to pull that?

According to the way I understand it, updates are not released at the same time to everyone. So I would say just be patient. I also haven't received the update

And there's no hard evidence ram management is fixed. It's unfounded speculation by people who desperately hope that's what the update is.

What...? How is it unfounded? It's perfectly reasonable for people to think it could address the ram issue, because Samsung has acknowledged the problem and are working on a fix. Not to mention, it's not even a touchwiz issue. All Samsung has to do is push everyone upto to 5.1.1 for the issue to be fixed.

Okay. Hope it's true then.

I have the E3 update and all I can say is that of all the things it fixed, not one of it is RAM Management. Better just wait for 5.1 since it's hopefully coming this June.

Got an update 2 days back. Battery backup has improved and device is not getting hot often. Looks like some RAM management issues are sorted.

I noticed that after update heat issue is a bit better. Not gone but better. Most likely an issue though for those living in Kuwait,UAE or Saudi Arabia where temperatures this summer will range from 40-50 celsius

Got a new update today. Installed it few minutes ago. G925IDVU1BOE3
No change logs released by Samsung except the standard "fixes performance issues"
Will share the review in 48-72 hours.

I have also got the update today and installed it..so far no difference felt except minor ram management improvement.

Things improved after OE3. Battery backup improved and phone is more responsive. Looks like they made some changes to sort RAM Management issues.
Waiting for 5.1.1 now

Went from KitKat 4.4.2 back to 4.2.2

I just want to share what and why I did it. First off I did not have problems with my wifi on 4.2.2 with the Nexus10. the second that I went to Slim Kat and Vanir 4.4.2 I had weak wifi signal at work and at home when my nexus 7 slim kat and my galaxy note 2 Vanir did not. I noticed that RAM was also weird on the nexus 10. Even though it showed 2gb of ram on the specs it was only showing 1099 on 4.4.2 when I show that I have 1647 ram available with 4.2.2.
Concerning the OS using Ram. Google said that they would make Kit Kat more RAM friendly but I was using 535mb of RAM for 4.4.2 and right now I am showing only 357.3 mb for 4.2.2. I am using the same apps launchers and screen savers.
I just flashed back to 4.2.2 this morning so I will update later, I do see an improvement in the wifi though.
I just want to say that I love Slimkat and that is why I am on the 4.2.2 I just think Google somehow hosed up the wifi on the Nexus 10.
I have one question with all this. Is the wifi and Ram usage Kernel related?

B][/B] Ok so I am at work and have went back and forth between 4.4.2 and 4.2.2. the 4.4.2 connects and disconnects back and forth. When it does connect to router but it says poor connection and it is only 24mbps. "It drops way more than connected" I am 45 ft from router in an open environment.
The 4.2.2 Slim Kat has a fair connection with 78 Mbps and has not dropped once. So I don't know what the difference is with Kit Kat compared to Jelly Bean but for my nexus 10 my wifi is great now with Jelly Bean. I wish I could figure out why and fix but I do not know programming.
Have you tried to untick the "WiFi optimization" box in advanced WiFi settings? To me this seemed to improve the connectivity.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Yes I did do that and it just helped a little. I have been back on slimbean 4.2.2 for over a day now and my WiFi is great. Also I do not have any of the bugs that kit kat has . I have not had any fc or dropped WiFi. The tablet is perfect.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Hi,
If the 4.2.2 suits well your needs then there's no need to complain at all . I have no idea about the WiFi problem, sorry... I always use my WiFi close to the router, so I don't have problems. But I can explain you the RAM thing in KitKat.
Like you already know the Nexus 10 powers up a huge resolution display, and the graphics processor is not really able to keep up with it all alone, so Google allocated some of Nexus 10 RAM to the GPU. The update brings some new stuff, therefore requires more power and as such it will probably need more GPU power as well, and that's why you see less RAM. I will share here how I tested each update based on graphical performance:
I picked up an anime episode that I had in MKV, FullHD, FLAC audio, blah blah blah... In other words, very heavy stuff. Downloaded MX Player on both my S4 and my Nexus 10. Let's start the tests now:
First Test:
Both running 4.2.2 - The video was very laggy in both devices, in S4 it was completely unwatchable. On Nexus 10 you could watch it, but it was very unpleasant.
Second Test:
Both running 4.3 - The video got a little better on S4, you could watch it, but some parts were uncomfortable and really laggy. Nexus 10 got an amazing improvement (that's when Google started to allocate RAM to the GPU), you could watch it almost flawlessly, the only problem was skipping some parts and one particular scene.
Third Test:
My S4 broke, and now I'm with a Xperia Z1. Xperia Z1 and Nexus 10 running KitKat - Xperia Z1 performance was perfect, no lag at all, all scenes watchable and no problems rewind and fast forwarding the video, Snapdragon 800 has an amazing GPU indeed. Nexus 10, being one year older than Z1 with a older processor and way more pixels had a similar performance, was way better than on 4.3, the problem was with rewinding and fast forwarding, other than that was perfectly fine.

So, if you don't use your tablet for heavy videos and such, you can stay in older versions with no problems . I just think it is good to share this small experiment I did to clarify why your RAM "disappeared" suddenly on KitKat .
~Lord
Thanks I can understand now why they use the ram. I want to be back on slimkat or any kat but not while the WiFi is so bad. I watch regular videos nothing heavy. I take my tablet everywhere and get free WiFi and I had problems with connecting to those places if they had a weak signal. Since going back to slimkat 4.2.2 I have had no issues.
I hope Google fixes this issue. I would like to be back with kitkat

Hey, so i've been checking solutions for days. I'm gonna assume you're still using 4.2.2 and still haven't found a solution for the WiFi issues of 4.4.2. I unfortunately updated my Nexus 10 without knowing the consequence. My symptoms seem worse than yours. Not only will my internet drop, but i can't ever get into the play store and youtube will only half-load its own pages and videos.
Anyways...what i need to know is your method for reverting back to 4.2.2. I've downloaded the IMG (.TGZ) file straight from google as i'm sure you have but i can't find how to flash the file onto the tablet without rooting the thing (which in turn voids your auto-updates with google (so i heard)). i found a video of a guy using a program called "wugfresh nexus toolkit" but a lot of people trust Odin to do this. I guess i just need the step-by-step process for this specific device using either of the programs.
Last question: why didn't you downgrade to 4.3 instead of going to 4.2.2. Was there a problem with that OS as well?
Thanks for your help.

If I'm not wrong you can find how to restore stock on the Manta Help Thread! Please check there for further reference .
As for last question I don't know, you should try for yourself . As you said the symptoms in your case were worse, so what's better than checking for yourself other versions?

sorry to just get back to this thread. I am still using 4.2.2 I even went further and went totally stock so I can use the history channel app and brighthouse networks app. I use Wugs nexus kit and it walks you through all of it. Ever since I went back to 4.2.2 I have had no problems connecting to old wifi systems that my 10 could not connect to on 4.4.2. I am patiently waiting on the google fix for update 4.4.3

Excellent, thank you for your answer. That's what i was looking for. Flashed my new stock OS and it works like a charm! thank you very much!
I'm convinced the wifi issue will never be fixed.. Unless you're humping the router it's crap... Get down to 1-2bars of strength and its hit or miss if you'll get data throughput.. I've tried everything from changing wifi channels, switching only to WPA2 AES, disabling wifi optimization. It's just terrible still. This tablet has been a dud.. Between the ever changing RAM allocation to take more and more away from the user, the never fixed random reboots, and terrible Wifi... I'm probably never touching a Nexus tablet again.
I am using Nexus root tool kit. I download that program select the 4.4.2 as current program then selected the operating system that I wanted to go back to stock with. The link is :
http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/
I went back to 4.3 and it's much better than kit kat, IMO.
I updated to 4.4.2. but had Wi-Fi issues where it would show that I was connected to Wi-Fi but could not actually access the internet and the only way to fix it was to toggle airplane mode on and off. It could happen as much as once every 15 minutes. Went back to 4.3 and no problems. When 4.4.3 came out I hoped the bug would be fixed but it wasn't so I downgraded again. Again no problems. When 4.4.4 came out I tried it out but in addition to the Wi-Fi issues I had frequent hard freezes where the tablet was completely unresponsive and had to hold down the power button to turn it off. These updates keep getting worse and worse. Back on 4.3 and think I'll stay here for a while. Only issue I've had is slight screen flicker, but I just turn off auto brightness and that fixes the problem.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
I have also went back to 4.2.2 for now. Device is just as responsive as 4.4 for me and battery life is much better.
I'm not going to lie...I accidentally flashed 4.2.2 and thought "wow this is a big improvement" thinking it was 4.4.2. The device is just so much more fluid. What are the barriers to the N10 responding like my N5?
Yeah I remember when I first got my N10 running 4.2, it was far faster, then 4.3 came and turned everything into ****, KK has been aan experience nearly as good as 4.2, save for the WiFi drops as they happen from time to time, I blamed it on my kernel as my sister's stock N10 doesn't exhibit these problems.
Anyways, I'm now running KK + ART + F2FS and lowered my resolution to 1200p as games have become more taxing and it's faster than ever before, battery could be improved but I blame that entirely on the screen.

[Q] Why are we not getting 4.2.2 or higher???

Hello guys,
Right now in android market cheap brands like micromax and many other are offering 4.2 or higher version in their low end phones,
Why we are not getting update since very long time?
Is samsung busy with their new launched devices without taking care of us?
And please don't tell me it is not necessary to create new thread for this question.
Don't you want updated version in your phone?
If you want than please support this thread.
anyway, isn't like sansung will see this topic...

Also, our phone still getting some updates for stability, so sansung didn't forgot it. Wait a year and i'm sure something will apper

After a year Android will launch v5 or may be greater than 5.
Newly launched Motorola Moto E with 7000 INR price (half of our quattro) have 4.4. and motorola gives guarantee of future updates.
Don't you think Samsung should release atleast 4.2.2.(not expecting 4.3 or 4.4) Instead of making 4.1.2 stable?
Sorry if you are Samsung fan but I am frustrated with samsung, this will be my last Samsung phone.

I am damm sure that we are not getting 4.3 or higher cuz even s3 is not getting(because it will cause lag).As samsung is a bloatware distributor with its slow tw ui their will be lags 2 or 3 times of the present .Whereas moto g is based on CLOSE to pure android so their are no bloatware and it can run 4.4 or higher easily .Our own device can run 4.4 smoothly(if someone make it :fingers-crossed. and yeah **** samsung

Qualcomm dropped support for msm8225 and this is the main reason why all devs are ignoring this device.. Someone in this thread told that s duos 2 has lower cpu than quattro?? Atleast google it before saying it.. that phone has cortex a9 broadcom processor which is far better than cortex a5.. Quattro has backdated cpu, accept this fact and probably it will never get bug free cm11..

Why has Google ignored nexus 9, I bought this tablet so that it would be first to get updates but it's the opposite? Why Google why?

64-bit must be giving the developers trouble compared to the other Nexus devices, or maybe there's something else about the K1.

Yes, I want to know myself. Google suposed to be giving nexus devices upgrades for 2 years and the nexus 9 is still a new device and no update to version 5.1 yet. Stock images is still 5.0.1 version. I tryied updating to the pure AOSP 5.1 from the dev section from this forum but it had errors so bad it was unusable.

And still nothing.. the funny thing is that they realized that there is a memory leak in 5.1 and yet they released 3 versions of 5.1 for nexus 6, and 2 versions for nexus 5. All versions with the memory leak. The most funny thing will be nexus 9 to receive 5.1 with 1 month delay and not 5.1.1 with the memory leak fix...

The Nexus 9 doesn't seem to be a priority for Google. Even the Nexus 7 2013/2012 have received 5.1 despite being much older than the N9, they should at least give a release window for the 9 even if they are unable to provide immediate updates. Although, I think the user base for the Nexus 9 might be small, so perhaps Google doesn't think it's necessary to cater to N9 users at this time.

I believe this too, due to the extremely low "nexus market share" this device has. Anyway, eventually it will be released.. Let's hope that it will be a final version. There will always be bugs, this is how software development works.
The SoC is a catastrophic choice. No other devices use it, I think, and development will be less than nothing from Nvidia.

Reports of "memory leak" from morons who don't even know what a memory leak *is* are meaningless. Your assumption that "they realized that there is a memory leak in 5.1" is without merit.

Right, u know better... There is memory leak , its there. Whether u like it or not. The only thing that u have been doing is being acting like a smartas* , next time try to explain if u will.

Whatever pal. Believe whatever you like.
But the fact that neither you nor anyone else has actually *demonstrated* a memory leak really says a lot about how well (or rather poorly) you understand.
In fact, first thing I would do is challenge you to explain (without looking it up) what a memory leak *ACTUALLY IS*, as well as *prove* that there is one in play.

galaxy alpha performance

despite the alpha is still considered a medium-range phone, i want that people who have it to be proud!
why?
because the performance of this phone is a BEAST !!!
just look at the images uploaded from my device, and this is made with stock rom from samsung, no root and no tricks!
Just imagine what this can do over a rooted and/or custom rom !
All of you with a galaxy alpha should try and test a little your beast.
I also challenge you to beat my score, but the condition is to have the original rom, no root or other tricks!
In the last 6 months I had a nexus 5 (2013), HTC One M8 (2014) and now the Alpha Exynos. To be honest, other that the benchmark score, I feel that the Alpha is way more slow than the other two. Using it means constant waiting for something to load. I also feel that the TW is the bottleneck and I really don't understand why it has to take such a long time to load multitasking and/or google search (not to mention the constant stutters and hiccups). I have the latest software - unlocked version - and not rooted.
In terms of daily use is close to HTC One M7 which is a 2013 phone (witch I had before nexus 5).
I'm hoping that 5.0.1 and ART to change this. If not, I'm selling it.
Cheers.
try this:
1- go to developer options and disable all 3 animation settings that are set to 1x by default!
2- install a thirdparty launcher, i recommend nova launcher ...and
3- you dont have to sell it if you achieve request no. 1 and 2, maby you will enjoy it, it is really a premium phone, nice looking and impressing performance as you see my main thread.
i have the exynos also and belive me is way more performant then qualcomm version, try it both before buying!
best regards

Excellent score...this is mine. No root, everything is stock, exynos chipset.

Try to use some of the tricks, especially uncheck my magazine because he is slowing down ui.
Also I am using Total Launcher...for me, best launcher by far
Putting your phone in the fridge will improve your score too.

How do you feel about your A53s 5G? Anything in this article ring true for you?
Is Samsung messing up the Galaxy A52s to sell the Galaxy A53?

I received March security update on March 14th on my A52s. I see no performance, battery or any other issues.
Anyway if Samsung messed with software on purpose i doubt all those users would go and buy newer Samsung phone again. It's a reach..
A52s is a better device anyway with 778G instead of that Exynos. And it has 3.5mm jack.
Well,my a52 became laggy.Don't know is it because of samsung updates or intalled/uninstalled apps during time or some google bul***** but it happened with every midrange I bought in the past...

Well A52 has way slower CPU and i would advise against updating to newer Android on midrange phones anyway. Updating definitely does slow down phones, but it's not like Samsung is doing it on purpose..
Xiaomi for example isn't updating mid range phones to android 12, but instead offering new MIUI 13 coupled with Android 11. Samsung should start doing something like this.
Similar is with Windows i have couple of older machines that work great on 7, fast and snappy, but on 10 or 11 are just unusable.
I have a52s,my mistake I hope that one ui 4.1 will improve laggy animations and won't update my phone anymore...I have one question,is it possible to downgrade android and oneui to a11 and latest version of one ui 3 before a12?I have flashed via Odin last time I had Samsung but that was 5-6 years ago when I had a5...

Then i don't know i honestly don't have a problem. Did you try clearing cache from recovery, that's something i usually do every time i do a major update to newer version.
I believe it's possible to downgrade with Odin yes. Tutorial
When i bought A52s i instantly got the oneui 4 update and updated so i really can't compare it if it would work faster on oneui 3.

I patched the ap tar from the last 11 A528B firmware. Did an install of the patched ap, cp, bl, and the csc tar not home one. Presto i had 11 on phone rooted. Used zygisk and safety fix 2.2.1 and lposed zygisk and all is good. Firefds R and GravityBox R working great....so yes you can go back to 11 and I am fine with the dec security patch.

Did Apple not get sued, for doing something like this.. They made the phones batteries go south, just so people would buy a new one.. I'm planning dumping this phone by the end of next month.. I'm not sure what I'm getting but it will not be a A53.

Not exactly like that:
Apple temporarily drops price of iPhone battery replacement, promises iOS update to address battery health in new apology
Apple today published an open letter on its website apologizing for how it handled performance on iPhones with older batteries,...
9to5mac.com
in the end OneUI is just android and we know android updates are always a joke, see Pixel 6/Pro, Oxygen/ColorOS, MIUI and etc...
I've had no significant issues with my A52s after any of the updates, just the odd bug/glitch. I wonder how much of this is down to individual apps not behaving nicely with the update, giving the impression that the problem is with Samsung's software.
