Change connection mode to PTP as MACs in their greatness do not support MTP.

Once you conect to the computer a notification is shown in notification area that says something about Connection mode. Click that and it will have the MTP and PTP choices.
if it does not show up when you connect it to a Mac, connect it to a PC and change to PTP, it will stay that way and then connect to Mac.

I installed Smart Switch and not Android File Transfer no longer works.
Did you install android file transfer?
I can only transfer data from iphone backup via Smart transfer, I don't see an option to view files on my phone.
Related
Kies can see its connected but there is no file transfer and no sync.
If i go into windows explorer it can see the phone, but again no transfer.
On the phone its self i get "connected as a media device" pop up, and then disappear.
I've tried reinstalling kies but no luck
Is it just my phone?
use Kies Air.

I have Motocast on my Motorola Droid 4 which lets me view/access any file on my computer as long as both my phone and laptop are connected to the internet and I have the Motocast software running on my computer.
Are there any similar apps that work on non-Motorola Android devices?
Thanks

Yeah it's one of the few good apps I've seen that isn't plagued by a ton of people wrongly giving it one stars because they didn't bother to read what it does or how it works.

I use ES File Explorer which can access shared folders via LAN. No software is needed on the host computer other than setting up the shared folder(s).
How do you reach the PC if it's nat'd behind the router?

From your cell phone, how do you reach your PC to access the shared directory, if the PC is behind a nat'd router?

I'm pretty sure you have to go into settings and network options. You may have to change your router settings to allow access as well.

Hi. when i use my phone to copy files over the network (via ES file explorer), it only copies at like 700 KB/s. my router is 300N and the
PC that i am copying from is plugged directly via lan cable to the router.
The S3 is meant to have wireless N support.
Any solutions to this ?
Thank you

Hey, my problem is the following: I have internet on my PC, not on my phone, no, I don't want reverse tethering, I just want to be in the same connection!
The problem is the connection on my PC goes away if I do that!
Halp!
Use Connectify s/w and create a wifi hotspot. For this you will need Wifi dongle for your pc.

Doesnt work on my device, no one of the reverse tethering stuff works!
There's a s/w called 'Android Tool'. It works on rooted device only and requires xposed. You can try that if you're rooted.
Search in the xda forums or if you wish I can mirror it for you.

You may try a VNC server service (for example droid VNC server) and a VNC client on your computer. I think this is the most reliable way.
Or apps like Android Screencast, Android Screen Monitor
Does it need internet connection??

You can also connect trough USB with ADB, but that sounds a too long way for a very straight forward process.
