battery life problem - Verizon LG G3

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good wakelock detector or give me some ideas on what may be killing my battery....out of nowhere, all of a sudden, my battery life sucks, I am rooted, on skydragon rom, this did not happen after installing anything new, just one day noticed my battery was dead by dinner time, and happens almost every day now...

gsam with root companion is pretty popular.

I had problems using with the original 75 degree thermal mod. I had to go back to stock thermal to fix my problems.
I used this for wakelock detection:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
It works great, but it did not detect the problem I had (with thermal). I just lucked into finding that solution.
Good luck!

I use BetterBatteryStats to monitor what processes are waking up the phone. And I use Greenify and Amplify (Xposed module) to control wake locks. Can't do much about screen on time, but these significantly increased (went from 2 to 3 days for regular usage) my battery life when I'm not actively using the phone.

[Q] 60 percent idle battery usage / 15 hours

I am having huge issues with my battery on my galaxy s2. It drains really fast, 60% over the last 15 hours this night when the phone has been idle. This has been an issue for about a week now; I cannot seem to find a solution? I have tried various roms, wiping and doing a clean install, but the problem continues. Currently using lightening rom 3,2.
Do anyone know what can be causing this battery drain? Is the battery defective??
What apps do you have installed?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
That is quite a drain I can see there. The drain might be caused by having too many widgets or having too many applications open. If you plan to put it on standby, do close those apps that are not important to you.
Have you tried rebooting?
I have a stock lightening rom 3,2. no apps installed, except titanium backup pro and opera mobile. I have frozen all kinds of stuff in titanium to try find the cultprit, but without success. As you see, no apps except andoid OS is running. Same drain on villainrom, lightening. Don't know what can be causing the error. Is there some way to check if the phone or the battery it self is to blame?
Try with screen on - normally I think that should run for 6 hours or so. Using that as a reference, you can check to see if the energy stored in the battery is normal. It doesn't look like your OS is staying overly active to me.
Hi bjorninge,
Every time after you flash a new ROM you should calibrate your battery.
Get the app "battery calibration" from the market and follow instructions and please report back whether you can achieve better performance.

I have a similar issue, as was the same with my captivate. I have stock ROM on my GS2 though, the way I got it out of the box pretty much. Android OS takes up most of the battery usage. I don't know what it is. Widgets updating constantly? The constant syncing from Gmail/push email?
Well that's surprising! Awake and Screen On bar is quite low and totally synchronized, yet 60% drain, now I gotta say it's weird.

Unfortunately, I have the same issue as you've described above. I am running on stock KE2 kernel and the battery drain is quite a lot. The 'Android OS' is always consuming a lot of processor time on standby mode.
This needs to be fixed A.S.A.P.!
Download and install the app BetterBatteryStats from Android section, it is a very useful app which will show what Awaking the device from deep sleep and processes too. For me, it was the damn Latitude stuff going on background and wasn't letting the device to go to deep sleep.
Regards.

Thanks for the tip. I have downloaded the app now. what spesifically should I look for?
You just look under 'Wakelocks' and you will know what apps are causing the Awake, then you could take further steps.
Regards.
Would be great if you could look at the screenshot and tell me if something is wrong. Also, after the battery calibration, I've "only" lost 26% the last 7 hours mostly idling. I don't see anything abnormal in the screenshot I provided :/
Well nothing is wrong imo as everything is very low. You should check those which are using more than 10 mins Wakelock, some seconds doesn't matter actually. And you can post any query further to the original thread of this app, here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
Regards.
OK, So I'm now back to 12% battery usage (from 100% to 88%) with 17 hours and 30 mins on battery, which IMO is normal.
What did I do? Well, I removed the battery and put the rest of the phone into the stove for an hour on 50-60 degreed celsius. My 98% android OS usage is gone and the battery works as normal .I also had problems with the phone constantly going into "car mode" which is now gone.
I got some tips around the internet that my issues were all related to moisture on the inside of the phone.

[Q] Average battery life on these developed roms?

I was just wondering on how long your battery life was, I guess when comparing to idle time. I ask because this was the main issue of mine as to why I havent flashed anything. When idle I was getting up to about 3 - 4 days of battery.
If battery life is important to you I would avoid all ROMs other than stock.
Flashing 3rd party ROMs is likely to damage you battery calibrator which causes you battery life to drain rapidly since calibration gets all screwed up.
Nobody knows specifically what is causing this serious issue but what we do know is that it happens when you flash a 3rd party ROM/Kernel.

custom roms usually use the stock kernel. what you get on your stock rom, you should get on a custom.
battery life is also subjective and variable, depending on your useage patterns, etc.

Once again... lick my butthole 5thelement. Man you really bring out the class in me tonight bro.
I've been using task650s ROM with great battery life. I did have the battery drain issue which I don't think is really ROM related but once I went through the suggested calibration on this forum everything has been great. Think I've had my Tab on for 5-6 days with it at idle through the night and earlier parts of the day and using it for internet browsing and music around the house each evening. Turned it off last night with 30-40% battery left (just a guess).

Yea I am familiar with screwed up battery life calibration on my Captivate. I was getting anywhere from 8 hours to a day and a half which was why I was asking.

Really? Hmm thats good to know, I will look into that one then if I consider flashing.
Heavy usage (a lot of browsing, notes, some games) nets me a little over a day. My usage can be heavy and nonstop.
My average is around 2 days before I have to charge. That's mostly moderate heavy. My usage is abnormal but I can say I'm happy with its battery life.
Using tasks rom and pershoots kernel.
My usage is heavy everyday so I get about 7 - 8 hours of screen time by the time I go to bed and usually I am around 30% - 35% left. I use it all day for when I am on the train or in class. Running Starburst KME at the moment but I got the same average battery life on all ROMs using stock kernel. Pershoots kernel is reliable and I could go an extra day if I wanted.

yeah, battery life for the galaxy tabs seems to be pretty poor! i just can use my 10.1v (stock) for only about 3 or 4 days. just for a little bit of wifi surfing and ebook reading (wifi switches off during standby).
i really love my galaxy tab, and i hated my ipad, but regarding battery life i used to charge my ipad only once a month!!! really. and i used it exactly for the same things as my galaxy tab.
samsung promised it to have similar battery life as the ipad...one more lie from them...

[Q] Heavy battery drain on stock

Hey, I've been using stock 4.1.2+ExperiencedKernel for a long time, it always worked great, but a few days ago I installed an icon pack for KKLauncher, and since then my battery consumption got really bad, around 15-20% per hour when the display is off! I've tried deleting the icon pack, but it's the same, I'm even checking BetterBatteryStats for details, but it doesn't show anything suspicious, although I'm using the app for the first time, so maybe I overlooked something. I have also reflashed the rom+kernel with full wipe, but no luck. Can anyone tell me what can cause this mess, or what should I upload from BetterBatteryStats for someone to check the problem? Thanks in advance.
btw it goes to deep sleep well, so it's not an app that wakes it up constantly (I use greenify too). also the phone itself is very hot, don't know if it's just the battery or the whole thing... but the phone functions correctly.

If you don't have any wakelocks keeping it awake and you've reflashed the ROM, kernel and did a full wipe and the battery drain still exists... Then I'd say your battery is failing, especially if it's getting hot. My L9 never gets hot, even under heavy use.
The only other thing you could really try is flashing back to stock and see if the problem is still there... Really though, I'm pretty sure it's your battery.

I thought you meant that the battery was getting hot. The last time I had a battery go out, it was getting hot and it was draining fast. Shortly after that it wouldn't take a charge anymore.
It is possible that it's a hardware issue. WiFi, GPS or the camera could cause it to get hot also.
You can also try and boot the phone into "Safe Mode" and run it like that for a day or two and see if the problem still exists. If it problem disappears while in Safe Mode then you have a rogue app or something that's causing the issue.
Then to narrow it down you could try downloading Wakelock Detector and see if something is keeping it awake, making it hot and drain the battery.
Monitor it with Better Battery Stats and Wake lock Detector. Post some screen shots of BBS and Wakelock Detector here too. That way we can see if something is going on.
This is one of those issues that will take a process of elimination to figure out.

I've been using BBS, it shows that the phone is in deep sleep in most of its off time, no app wakes it up. Also, wifi seems to lose its signal very often, even though it's strong (there wasn't any problem with that before).
I'm using the phone now without SD and SIM cards, it doesn't seem to be that hot than it used to, but charging and draining are still very weak. I'm gonna try safe mode as you suggested, and also using the phone without wifi turned on, if that is the issue. Thanks for your tips.
So, the phone cooled down after I turned off wifi, then I rebooted to safe mode, and it became hot once again, but after the media scanning, it cooled down once again. So I guess it may be the CPU? I've been trying to get a picture of the phone's circuit board with no luck, because the phone is only warm in the upper 1/3, the other parts seem to be cooled down all the time.
I'm gonna return it to T-Mobile on Monday, hopefully they won't notice the unlocked bootloader.

Yeah it might be the CPU. Also if it's dropping and/or scanning a lot for WiFi, then it will definitely get hot and kill the battery quickly.
I don't think that T-Mobile will notice that it's unlocked. As long as you flash back to stock ROM before taking it in, then they probably won't notice. They would have to be purposely looking for it to be unlocked.
You might want to flash back to stock anyway and see if the problem is still there... It very well could be a ROM/kernel issue causing the problem.

[Q] Too Many Wakelocks...

Kernel wakelocks don't keep the device awake per se. Those are processes that run when the screen is on. That's why the duration of all of them is almost the same. There's not going to be much you can do about those until/if custom kernels come along. You can try a factory reset, though I don't think it will help.
You should focus on partial wakelocks since those keep the CPU on when the screen is off.

This list for kernel wakelocks goes on for a while. The partial wakelocks are minimal, but whatever is causing these kernel wakelocks is whats causing the device to get warm, and subsequently draining the battery at an accelerated rate (roughly 7%+ per hour with minimal usage.)
I have never before seen such an extensive list from BBS on any of my other devices. Usually its the accumulator of all the partial wakelocks at the top of the list of kernel wakelocks by a large margin.

I'm with you. Been searching around for things I can freeze/hibernate to minimize wakelocks. Like stated earlier though we really need a custom kernel to get rid of a lot of those Kernel ones. The Partials aren't really that bad.
I have only had this phone since earlier today though so I'm keeping my eye on BBS like you are

This phone does seemto have a ridiculous abou amount of activity going on. I had the dreaded (nlpcollectorwakelock) battery drain my first day but a reset took care of it. My battery had since calmed down and I'm getting good sot now. My android os stays at around 14-20%as well but a long as my sot is decent I'm not stressing anymore

Yea mine is only draining at around 3% am hour with my use according to BBS.
That's just on WiFi and doing some browsing + Tapatalk+ a little YouTube.... So I can't complain.
It'll take a few charge cycles plus keeping an eye what else I can freeze and hibernate.
Considering the display on this thing that's pretty good I'm happy.... Be a little happier with a SaberMod ROM and Kernel though [emoji2]

My battery life is just as good as on my G2. Under normal (moderate/moderate-heavy) use I can get a day out of it easily. Yesterday I went to bed with about 44% left after over 13 hours use (with 2.75 hours of screen-on time).
I would recommend using CPU Spy to make sure the phone is going into Deep Sleep. There might be some process keeping it at a higher functioning state and not allowing the phone to hit Deep Sleep. For the most part, the phone should be in Deep Sleep longer than any other processor state.
I think a factory reset is in order. If that does not help you might just have a bad device, or a bad battery.

My phone is showing a huge number of sensors wakelocking the phone, and it was only in deep sleep 17% of the time since I unplugged it 6 hours ago. That kernel wakelock for the sensors needs to be fixed and then our battery life will be stupid good. You can't get as much screen on time on the G3 as I do on my G2. I was getting up to 10 hours of screen on time on my G2 the best i've managed was 3.5 on the G3. However, custom kernels will probably help there.

The Sensor WakeLocks are quite ridiculous indeed, but what is your phone showing for Partial WakeLocks and Alarms in Better Battery Stats???
Only way I could get mine under control was to use App Ops to limit Google Play Services to NOT keep my phone Awake.
Then I located COM.LGE.IMS and disabled its Receivers then froze it.
Then I Greenify everything possible lol
That Com.LGE.ims thing was waking my phone like crazy, maybe 50-100 times an hour if I remember correctly and I don't even use the feature its tied into... WiFi Calling

doze not working?

Been having battery issues the past couple days. Looks like my phone isn't dozing compared to before the issue, the battery graph would stay a flat line and barely discharge over night. I screenshot last night's discharge, went to bed with approx 95%and woke up around 70.
Sorry if this has been discussed somewhere, I searched but could not find. Recently switched back to Android, hope I don't regret it lol. I'm not rooted or on any custom ROM
If anyone has suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it
My two cents: try checking what app or service is consuming the battery under settings>battery and try to close it. In my experience, Android, even with the Doze feature, doesn't stand up to apple's standy consumption and app freeze.
From the screenshots it is a wakelock from android OS and this is actually a bug with stock rom in g5. Ive had this wakelock number of times on my H830 and this happens randomly after charging your battery to 100 percent. The only solution to this is to keep an eye on the battery section for 20 to 30 minutes after charging your phone and if there is the long wake time for android OS then reboot phone.
Rebooting the phone gets rid of the wakelock until it randomly occurs
On the sidenote for my tmobile Lg g5 a few things causes this wakelock
Manually turning on the lollipop battery saver
Restricting background data on the data section
Mostly after charging my phone
Hope i helped and just test out which action actually causes the wakelock and avoid it until there is a fix for non rooted phone/reboot phone more often
Thanks for the tips. I just did a clean wipe so I'll what happens. The wake lock issue is definitely not something I can live with though. Only way around it right now would be a custom ROM? Was hoping to avoid messing with all that this time around
