Have you established what it was that caused the boot loop? It might be worth taking a minute out and trying to work that out before progressing, if it was flashing a custom ROM, perhaps you should try that again, did you wipe etc beforehand?
So you plan is to
1. enter CWM recovery
2. take full Nadroid Backup
3. Perform Wipe
4. Re-flash current ROM (I'm guessing from ZIP file on SD not RUU?)
5 go back into CWM recovery
6. restore data partition?
Sounds good in theory and yes I believe that your messages will exist if you manage to restore data, I can't see what harm it will do - as you need to progress from where you are now.
Although, as I don't know what device you have and how you were intending ro re-flash your current ROM, you need to be careful that in re-flashing if you're using an RUU that you don't lock your bootloader or loose the custom recovery or you may have more work to do!!!
This is why im in a boot-loop
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1212063
Im running 'I9000XWJVB' stock.
1. Backup with ClockworkMod Recovery.
2. Flash stock ROM with odin.
3. After my phone boots up restore the backup i made.
Sound good?
Cheers, James

Ah, yes, I recall posting on that thread yesterday - shame you couldn't resolve it.
But this route does sound more hopeful. The steps do sound good. Although ensure that you only do a selective restore after the flash as you don't want to perform a full restore or you'll end up back where you are now. So I reckon that you'll only want to restore the data partition.
After restoring the data partition from the backup, I'd suggest that you wipe the cache & dalvik cache from within CWM, before you reboot.
If you use any third party messaging application you may want to install that before you restore.

Glad to be able to help....I'll be honest I learnt there to....
Although something for the future:
1. Always take a fresh backup before making any un-tested change.
2. Always have you current ROM ZIP on SD card at all times.
3. You can probably export your messages to your SD card (just in case)
Now press THANKS. button.

That backup will not do..
Next time while switching ROMs, don't forget to take backups of your apps through titanium backup! It's the most useful app!
extracting apps from nandroid backups is not advisable..when you switch roms.. so make app+data backups before switching roms.. and titanium backup is the best,as said above..
1)do cwm backup of current 4.0.4
2)in recovery use advance restore option to restore data.
3)make backup of apps with titanium backup
4)restore 404 backup(from step 1) and restore backup of apps from titanium backup(from step 3)

tried that (advanced restore once) but it seemed to FC the apps
another question like all the same :/
flash the 562 firmware with flashtool and then root (with doomlords rootkit for ICS 4.0.3 Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601038) and then over the Air
you have then rooted 4.0.4

Did you wiped cache and dalvik-cache after restoring data partition.
And which apps FC-ed? The one from data or system?

I will never understand why you advise people to do OTA update, when they can do clean flash, have clean phone, minimal chance of problems, and still able to root. I understand about .62, but now we don't have to mess with OTA's.

Erm, you can root it without unlocking BL.
I'm not blaming anyone, just asking. Its up to personal opinion, I just don't like OTA's
And sorry for not answering, I don't know where you asked me that.

You don't need to do a reset before restoring, but I always do, and if I am going from/restoring for example, a CM7 to a CM10 ROM, I will always do a full wipe via fastboot. I believe it's not so important if you are going GB to GB, etc., but really, for all the time it takes, wouldn't you rather just do it cleanly?
Thx man

DON'T do a factory reset! OP states he is on 4.04. Search 'emmc brickbug', you may have it as you're on 4.0.4. If you do have the brickbug, a factory reset will brick your phone.
OP, by 'losing your data' do you mean photos etc? If so, you can flash a new firmware (download from Samfirmware) using Odin without losing photos etc. However, you will lose your app data (settings of apps etc). Better than having a bootlooping phone though.
then forgot abt the backup

So he doesn't sync contacts to google? (in sync options, 'sync contacts'? if ticked, then all contacts can be restored to phone after signing in to google account on new rom). If you do install new firmware: to be on the safe side, flash an ICS-compatible Siyah kernel using Odin. Then you'll be safe to wipe, as Siyah has the emmc bug (emmc_cap_erase) disabled. Then, flash new firmware in Odin.
Some people report success of upgrading with no loss of data (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2116344) so you technically could try upgrading with no wipe.
Flashed New Frimware.
