Was looking to understand the differences and compatibility between S6 Edge 925I, 925F and 925T versions.
Can the following on any one, be completely compatible with the other?
1) Modem / Baseband
2) ROMs
3) Kernels (I guess the answer here is no)
For e.g. I feel Alliance ROM for the 925T is quite an interesting ROM to flash on my 925I... Will that be possible for me to use?
Can i flash the 925T modem on my 925I too?
For kernels, I understand unified kernels like Ktooonz will work on both. Else they may need separate kernels.
Could anyone please clarify?

I have just purchased SII (previously i had HTC Desire). With Desire it wasn't so difficult to understand all those ROMs and Radios. You choose a ROM and install, if there is a new Radio just download and install, simple as that. Now with S2 i can't seem to understand all these SCS codes, different kernels, roms, modem firmwares!!!
Could someone please explain why there are so many different kernels, roms, modems? What are the differences between them? Can you switch between them? Are there any implications and is it safe if you do so?
I have rooted my phone using CF-Root, now if i wanted to install another ROM/Kernel/Modem do i use CF CWM or do i need to have original CWM recovery?
Maybe not relevant but fyi my phone infos are:
PDA: I9100XWKF3
PHONE: I9100XXKE7
CSC: I9100XXKF1 (NEE)
Baseband: I9100XXKE7
Kernel: I9100XWKF3
Android 2.3.3
Thank you
► Many ROM's are there for different purposes. Visit the Original Dev section and see them one by one, you will get the idea.
► Different Kernel also same, for different purposes. One will support Overcloking, the other will support BLN, and some other with Voltage settings and etc.
► CF root is the simplest yet effective method of rooting IMO. It roots the device as well as keep the kernel close to Stock like.
► You can't change ROM's from within the phone, I don't think there is any Dual Booting stuff available atm, so you just have to flash then via Odin.
Regards.
Thanks but i might need to make myself more clear, i kinda know that ROMs are for different purposes but actually my question would be about Stock roms/kernels, why so many directly from Samsung?
Why can't i change the ROM from within the Phone? Isn't CWM the purpose for all those things?

1. That's Samsung. And they don't release changelogs.
2. Because you can't - no OTA updates for stock ROMs as of yet. Edit - misunderstood you I think - see 3..
3. Yes, CWM will do this for you.

Minor improvements or Samsung got fed up with winging about no updates and now its payback time .

You can if the rom has been written to do so most use CWM recovery a few use Odin .

Hey guys!
I might be getting a Galaxy S 2 for christmas, and i have a few questions regarding ROM flashing and related things.
On the Hero, you would flash a recovery and use that to flash everything else, ROMs, kernels, the load of it. In other words, recovery is completely independent from the ROM and kernel.
I've been looking around the developer forums here, and I'm slightly confused on how this works on the SGS2. I see a lot of kernels have CWM as a feature. Is it built in to the kernel somehow? Or is the kernel required to support it?
Lets say i want to flash a new kernel. Do i have to use this "Odin" program to do that, or can it be done in CWM as long as the kernel supports the version of CWM im using?
I'm also seeing a lot of ROMs that can/have to be flashed through Odin. Is this the preferred method over using recovery on the SGS2, or is it just a matter of personal preference?
The last thing that's been bugging me, is that if i buy my phone in Singapore (I live in Norway, but I'm going away for the holidays), will this have any ramifications for what ROMs i can use? I'll make sure not to get the G version of course, but apart from that, are there any regional limitations I should be aware of? (Something about CSCs?)
Thanks in advance!
You can root via Odin by just flashing CF Root, this is a stock kernel with CWM and other little things injected into it.
Once rooted you'll have CWM, reboot into recovery and flash away, custom roms are usually CWM, stock roms you'll need Odin or even Mobile Odin can do this.
Kernels again most devs release a tar for odin and a package for CWM so not an issue. Nearly all custom kernels have CWM and I've personally had no issues going from one version to the other.
Modem same, odin version and there's a big thread for CWM versions.
It's pretty similar.
Flashing a rom won't have any significance to where about in the world you are as the I9100 is an international version.
Modems can vary between countries as in signal strength and such but shouldn't be an issue with KI3, KI4, KI1, new KL1 being the most used.
CSCs are not an issue as well, you can change it via Odin, I just use a UK one but at times just settle with whatever comes with the rom, it's easy to change to your preferred country but should have no negative affect wherever in the world you are.
Hello peeps
i just had a some more questions regarding the above subjects..
Am I right in knowing that you need compatible kernels to flash certain roms and for those to work?
And am I correct in believing that I can flash any kernel to my phone? (well SGS2's)
If so, when I want to flash a new kernel.. do I need to preload the zip file of compatible rom so i can flash it straight away? (because otherwise i will have a kernel and a rom that is not compatible?)
and with csc and modems..
when im in romkitchen do i need to select the specific options depending on my physical phone and location or kernel and rom?
thanks
1. no, you can mix and match roms and kernals.
ist flash the rom you like which comes with its own kernal, then you can flash another kernal like siyah on top of that to give some improvements.
2. almost any sgs 2 will work some will not read the developers comments, they will state if the rom will cause problems with certain versions of the phone.
3. answered in the above items.
4. csc and modem do depend on location, try to load csc and modems that work for your region of country, there are plenty of threads that answer the location question.
Hi there,im new here.
Im using Galaxy note DXLP9
is there any custom roms available for me?
my baseband is N7000DXLP5
kernel is 3.0.15-N7000DXLP9-CL551076
Build number is IML74K.DXLP9
Thanks..
Yes, there definitely is. All ROMs built for the N7000 are compatible with your device.
WARNING: There is currently a brick bug affecting the N7000, so please read this before flashing any custom ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633943
Afterwards, you can look on this page for all the custom roms:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633943
Keep in mind to follow the directions exactly so you won't brick your Note.
Also, baseband doesn't really matter too much...
So just bought a Note Edge (SM-N915W8) which is a Canadian version i guess. Since i like installing custom roms on all of my phones I was about to do that on this one too because fk touchwiz. But i was not able to find any custom rom for my version, only for international one and a few more. So my question is ,even if I flashed the rom made for N915F, would it still work? If not then, what should I do? Could I somehow change my version to international? (sorry if these are stupid questions, but i have minimal knowledge about this matter)
