Does rooting cause kernel sleep issues? - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Like the subject says, does rooting cause sleep issues?
Thanks!

Yes it does, either the stock recovery needs to be flashed or a kernel that has deep sleep fixed.

Damn i just rooted! Haha
Okay, I've been an HTC user for years... How should i flash this kernel if i want to avoid tripping knox?

I just tested my phones ability to enter deep sleep mode with cpu spy and it entered it after i turned the screen off after about a minute. What does this deep sleep bug do?

if you have rooted the normal way you are have a tripped Knox..

I rooted using ping pong root and i have verified that knox is still intact.

HELP HELP HELP please

So this is situation
I had rooted device and hyperdrive rom. I went back to stock using Odin. Then I rooted again using saferoot method. I flashed custom recovery. I didn't even check if it has been installed correctly. Then I used boot unlocker app to unlock bootloader. App name is EZ-Unlock something. It asked me to reboot, I did and I can't turn on my screen. I used all type of combination. I tired keeping battery out for few hours and nothing is happening. I can't turn on screen at all. Nothing means nothing. Any idea please? I don't want to waste money with out getting help from here. Thanks in advance.

There is no "boot loader unlock" for the i545, just Loki for the MDK bootloader.
What bootloader did you start with? What build?
It sounds to me like whatever you used hosed your phone, which is pretty unusual. Normally you can at least get into bootloader mode.]
If you press the power button and plug in to your PC, what kind of device appears?

Ok, first off you cannot unlock the bootloader on this phone. MDK build is the only build that has a bootloader workaround, but it is still not unlocked.
What you will need to do is to find out what build you are on, download that .tar file, boot into download mode, and flash it through Odin.
He used the gs3 ez unlock tool on his galaxy s4...complete brick no fix until we gain the necessary files for JTAG...device won't charge won't boot won't do anything whatsoever... Odin won't even recognize that anything is connected...hope you bought insurance or are within return period

[Q] What are the repercussions of tripping the KNOX counter?

I know it can't be reversed, and it could affect warranty/RMA policies, but are there any other consequences? Like disabled features?
Thanks.

I read yesterday that you may not be able to OTAs on the S5 if Knox has been tripped. I don't know if this is correct or not as you can't get OTAs if rooted anyways.
Strictly from hear say I think it disables private mode .

I have seen private mode working once knox was tripped. not for me however. but i am on a deodexed rom and have not seen private mode work on any deodexed rom yet.
I'm guessing a soft root exploit (without using Odin) would fix this problem. I think I'll wait a while and see if one comes out.
i rooted via method odin [SM-G900*] CF-Auto-Root
private mode working fine, finger scan, paypal .., everything is working as usual, no custom rom yet so far.
So when we lose ota ability.... Will someone here modify the update package so we can still get the update?

I still think you get OTA for it if on stock roms, just won't update using kies if I am not mistaken.

After tripping the counter you'll find that the check for updates under About doesn't work and gives you a message about your OS being modified. I confirmed that being rooted or not doesn't matter (unrooted, didn't fix it), using ART or not doesn't matter (flipped to ART then back, didn't fix it, also tried on another phone that never used ART, same thing), and modifying system files or not doesn't matter... it appears that once the flag is tripped you're done with *automatic* updates... what I don't know yet, since there hasn't been one to try, is whether we can still install an unmodified OTA file from recovery manually... it *may* just be the check that doesn't work but install still will, which would make this a non-problem in my mind. If it doesn't install though then yes, we'll have to look for someone to modify the OTA for us, or else we'll have to play the "wait for the tar, then flash image files individually and manually with ODIN from it" game (which may not work for the system partition depending on what you've done to it... at least on my previous Sprint S4, you *could* install an OTA if you were rooted so long as you hadn't changed anything else, and I *assume* the same will be true on a T-Mob S5).

CF auto rooted

I rooted a phone for a friend. A sm-n900p, Sprint Note 3 running 4.4.4. Had him back up his stuff and do a factory reset before bringing it over. Used CF auto root to root, let Superuser do it's thing. Install root checker and all is good.
He installed wifi tether off googleplay and all is good. Now fast forward to two days later, his wifi will scan, but finds nothing????
Any ideas to what happen to his wifi?
Thanks

Stock? Custom Rom? If custom rom which one? Has he try uninstalling the wifi tether app from the playstore and rebooting? To see if its the app thats interfering with things.

Yeah, stock root and no custom recovery. Only extra is the wifi tether. He's at work so I don't know all the details. Phone is new to him, (used). I even question if the wifi was working before hand?

Access to a pc with odin? I think you might need to install a custom recovery. Was it rooted when he got it? Was knox counter tripped?

All great questions. Yes, I used odin off the computer. I'm still in rookie status with this stuff as I did not look to see if it had been violated before me....LOL
So you're saying a custom recovery can make or break the operation of the phone?
Quick update, he said he uninstalled the wifi tether but did not restart. So I had him do that and call me back. He sent a message it worked.
So.........thanks Goat for your input. I sent cudo's your way.

[Q] Usage of root and knox

If I were to use pingpong root, does apps(Titanium backup,viper4android,rooted uninstaller, etc) that use root trigger something? Like from System protection it says no unauthorized system changes detected, will it be triggered?
Also just to clarify, they don't trip knox aswell right?

The apps do not affect knox. But the pingpongroot apk will be detected as a malicious program.

I have never heard of anyone disabling supersu. It is the app you use to grant root access to apps that require it. I recommend you enable it.

I disable it when I use certain apps, they don't run if they detect root access.
I used something called rootcloak before, but I think xposed is not possible atm.

Wanam recently got Xposed working on the Galaxy S6.
However, it requires 5.1.1 and your warranty will be void.

[Kernel/Root] Root for the SM-G360T1 5.1.1

Root method for 5.1.1 for the SM-G360T1 THIS WILL TRIP KNOX. If you don't want to trip knox don't use this. If you do use it and whine you tripped knox because you didn't read ,we will all point and laugh at you.
Named it TrapKernel because well its not my normal HispAsian Kernel and I listened to a crap ton of Trap Music while doing it.
Thanks to @g.lewarne and his root method with his Unibase and Unikernel for the s6 , we finally have root after I ported it over to us. So be sure to thank him for his work.
What's included:
Auto installation of root and busy box
Kernel set to permissive
Otherwise stock
So here's the deal. Stupid simple.
Before you do anything, go to settings/about device and tap Build Number til you unlock dev options. Go into dev options and make sure OEM Unlock is checked. Now you can continue.
1. Put Phone in Download mode
2. Open Odin
3. Connect Phone
4. Put Kernel in AP Slot
5.Flash it
6. Reboot and profit
Notes:
Download SuperSu from the Playstore. Its not included.
If at first it doesnt boot, pull the battery and reboot.

@g.lewarne for the obvious reason of being awesome and his root method for the s6.
@bogarty for testing multiple tests
@Chainfire for SuperSU

Heres the kernel source that is set to permissive and will allow root if anyone wants to fork it and build a kernel:
