Towelroot on lollipop 5.1??? - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi guys,
hope you're all doing well
i've been wonderin if there's a way to root our z2 devices just by using towelroot the same way some of us could have done on xperia sp running 4.1.
thanks in advance for your help and if this thread had already been post i have to say sorry but my job doesn't give me much time

Unfortunately towelroot only root devices with kernels compiled until September~October/2014

GeoHot who made Towelroot now works for Google in their software security auditing team, so not surprising that he doesn't update his Android rooting tools

[Q] Root Sony Xperia Z Tablet - Android 4.3

Hi all,
I have Sony Xperia Z Tablet which I want to gain root access for.
Device details:
Model number: SGP311
16GB
Android 4.3
Build Number: 10.4.B.0.577
Not sure if relevant, but the tablet was bought in USA.
I'm pretty much a newbe here, so I would like, if possible, to get a link for a simple tutorial how to root my device.
10'x!
If only there was a search button...

Hi Felimenta97,
Thanks for your reply.
I have seen the post you've linked here before I've posted my question (I definitely know how to use the search option ) but its seemed somewhat complicated/Indirect way compare to the simple ways of rooting I'm used to from my 2 other devices (SGS3, Nexus 4)
Is there any simpler/straightforward way?
Thanks in advance!

Nope. There is no current exploit in 4.3 Sony firmware. So, you either unlock your bootloader, or do that process.
Wait till 4.4!
If I was you, I'd wait till KitKat upgrade comes out! after that I'd root my tablet

Why?
What about Kingo App?
You think it might do the work?

Isn't that almost always the case with updates?
Anyway, has anyone tried to root this tablet on 4.3 with Kingo App or VROOT?
10'x all for your help!

I tried with VROOT, but seems like there's no update yet. Was researching about 4.3 root methods, there a few, most of them you have to go back to 4.2 and then upgrade, but a direct root, no, I haven't found one yet :good:

As I said in another thread: RIC has been updated so a new modified kernel will be needed like we have for 4.3. There is a fix for z1s but I don't know if it has been released yet
Here to root 4.4..

It works on the 402 firmware as well. You can also use this tool:

I have used it on both the .402 and .314 firmwares. Worked extremely well both times :victory:

Hi!
I've same firmware in my Z Ultra but in the "Rooting Status" in appear: "Bootloader unlock allowed: NO"...
Can I root it and install a version of Android 6.0 in it or not?
Thanks in advance!

No kingoroot roots with no problems on lp. But download superSu app from the playstore fisrt. Kingoroot uses its own app kinguser just have to play around with supersu app a bit untill it gets the promp to grant root permission from kinguser then you can delete kinguser.. i dont like kingroot to many problems.. But you can get kingoroot from the computer run it from a computer.....

Kingoroot is still a decent root app. I have a lot of devices that is still active but it works with a lot of tablets.. sometimes you may have to run it a few times if it doesnt work the first time out. if it doesnt work after the third time may have to find another option. But i'll keep a eye out if you have a problem just bought two more devices note 5 n920c and s6 edge plus g928g starting to buy international models again..

Can you get into download mode if I remember right either volume up then plug in USB see if the computer sees it it could also be volume down plus USB but try volume up first.. have you tried the program EMMA yet. It will flash Sony firmware on your Sony.. you can find EMMA on the Sony threads somewhere. I'm hardly on the Sony threads..

Yes I have the same issue, annoyingly I changed my DPI on mine and now keeps crashing 'Assistive Touch', last time I removed it via a root uninstaller.
Kingo Root doesn't work nor does King Root
Hoping someone comes up with a root method soon.

Once you've installed twrp you can simply flash the stable supersu zip and it will patch the boot.img and flash systemless root.
I've got a google+ group for the k10000 as well if your interested.

Thanks for the link! I have requested to join
I can't seem to figure out how to flash TWRP, I'm used to Samsungs and that whole process is easy, my 10 year old can do it (in fact he did with his S5 Mini!)
I've downloaded the files and the program, but I find it too confusing and all the bit and pieces I have read seem to conflict with each other and I'm very confused with it and I would prefer not to brick my K10000. If you have a link to a guide on what to do I would be most grateful.
Kind Regards
GiGo
