[Q] Location Services turning on automatically - AT&T HTC One (M9)

Hi Everyone,
just bought a new AT&T HTC One M9, updated via OTA to 5.1, phone is currently with bootloader unlocked but unrooted and S-ON.
i have the following issue:
i usually leave location services on with "battery saving" mode.
after the screen times out and turns off, i can see the GPS icon flashing in the status bar as if location services are on "High Accuracy" mode.
at that point, if i go to Settings > Location it shows the mode as "Battery Saving", if i turn location services off and on again its switches to High Accuracy mode (which doesn't happen normally by toggling it)
i tried shutting down apps that appear under "Recent Location Requests" in Settings > Location, i also tried shutting down running apps via Settings > Apps -> Running tab.
in both cases i shut down as many apps as i could, the GPS icon was still showing in the status bar
only toggling Location Services Off and On OR switching modes from Battery Saving to High Accuracy and then back to Battery Saving, seems to fix the problem
but that's only until the screen turns off again.
(this happens even if location services are completely off)
any ideas?
Thanks in Advance

[Q] Android Device Manager & Battery Saving Mode

Android 4.4.2
I have mine set to battery saving mode, but assume that would also lower the accuracy of locating my device if it goes missing. Android Device Manager doesn't appear to switch to High accuracy mode when I try to locate it. Assuming this service is bundled into google play service it shows up as "low battery".
Is it better to have location setting to "Battery saving" or "High accuracy" mode when using Android Device Manager to locate your device?

[Q] Push Notifications Delayed/ Undelivered[EXCEPT GMAIL]

Hi everybody,
My device is rooted with pure stock 4.2.2 and mediatek 6572 processor.
Problems: (ONLY OVER WIFI and SCREEN OFF)
1. all my notifications are either delayed or undelivered, when screen is off.(not SMSes but those over WiFi)
2. GTalk messages always take 5 minutes(Heartbeat Interval duration) when screen off
3. Play Store apps are never updated/ downloaded when screen is off, start right after screen is on
4. IM apps like Xabber never get IMs until screen turned on
Exceptions:
1. NO PROBLEMS WHILE SCREEN ON
2. Gmail ALWAYS gets email exactly after 30 seconds or more(possibly rules out connection timing out)
3. Above problems disappear using MOBILE DATA
4. NEVER HAPPENS during charging
5. With LOCATION REPORTING enabled, Talk messages reach within 30-40 seconds, with screen off.( battery consumption doubles also)
ALREADY TRIED:-
1. In sleep policy set to Always On
2. Used PNF and set heartbeat interval at 5 minutes, to no avail
3. PORT 5228 not blocked on router
4. WiFi optimizations turned off
5. No battery saving mode or 3rd party app enabled
6. Background Data Restrictions disabled
7. Same thing in SAFE MODE
8. Did FACTORY RESET
9. Tried logging in from another Google account
Any help is greatly appreciated!!
same problem here, have you found the solution?
I have done your own attempts..but nothing.
i have two android phones with CM11, 1 has no delay and one yes
Sounds like the device is going into a very deep sleep when the screen is off. Most likely a software setting or a kernel setting that some use boost battery life. Also make sure not to have greenify installed.

YP-G70 SGP5 USA Orange WIFI bars?

Trying to save battery, I think I shut off something (was playing with sync settings) and now constant orange bars but all is fine!?! From what i can tell, internet good, manual refresh gets mail & play store updates still work, etc. Could it be that orange just indicates that syncs to Google are off? (but indeed I set them that way). I tried allowing sync again & sync-all-now manually but they stay orange. I tried setting DNS to google-dns-servers (via rom toolkit) but still stay orange & tried reset Google accounts - this gets them to go white again but some hrs later back to orange! Seems some ip conn to google is prevented by me leaving off some sync or something and as soon as it tries to reach google the conn is prevented and voila orange indication! I tried reviewing logcat but didn't really put a finger on any entry to help isolate it. So if it causes a unforeseen background problem to leave them orange, I'd like to reverse what I might've done else just leave it as is. Anyone else see this, know what causes it to go orange? I'd prefer to leave sync off.

As I know it, when the device has sync on and is successfully "connected" to Google, signal turns blue (in JellyBean) / orange (KitKat). Even when sync is on, if Google is unreachable (e.g. here in China ), it won't go orange. As for when it exactly goes orange... Back in the JellyBean times, when Google is accessible, signal turns blue just seconds after I turn WiFi/3G on, without me having to do anything.

Found this below among many articles about this, though no clear root cause and many other issues can be involved too.
In my case, I think I turned off some google service to save battery, that I am so far ok with being turned off. Here's a guess at this = My turning this off causes some subsystem to never make the conn to google in the first place. Some other subsystem checks for this conn to google and sees it's not present. It doesn't know I turned it off manually in another part of the system and simply proceeds to turn the wifi bars orange color to indicate conn to google not found present.
Everything else wifi works for me, and I am aware I have to now manually check for updates & notifies because of this - so at the cost of some background automation. Just not sure exactly which setting or combined settings I made caused this or what the exact check dependencies are to make this orange color indication. While the android manual below and article it came from confirms orange means some services not normally connected, it also doesn't go into what the exact conns are it's checking for to make this determination.
Seems in KK now, orange means no-google-conn & white=good - a change from ICS where blue=good and grey=no-google-conn.

Quote:
In Quick Settings only, white bars in the Wi-Fi or
mobile signal indicators indicate the signal strength
of a normal Internet connection, while orange bars
indicate that some web services may not be functioning
normally. For example, sometimes the mobile signal bars
turn orange briefly when you turn on your device, until a
full connection is established.
Just a quick update - for other reasons, I reflashed cm11 fresh (full wipe) and restored apps from TB backups. The white bars came back to normal but also poor battery life did too. Also noticed after sleep now the bars would remain orange but airplane mode toggle would get them to go white again. Tried to mess with settings again to save more battery life but not so good battery & constant airplane mode toggle compelled me to switch to carbon ROM as a new try out.
This now also has white bars but they come back to white on their own after sleep in carbon ROM & the few battery saving settings get the battery life to pretty good. So going to stick around with carbon for a while for now - many more settings in carbon too if that appeals. As for orange bars root cause still not sure exactly but at least carbon seems to recover back from sleep to white bars on its own without airplane toggles.

[Q] Android 4.4.2, the security option "verify apps" keeps toggling itself on

[Q] Android 4.4.2, the security option "verify apps" keeps toggling itself on
I don't like a scan periodically scanning my apps in the background, so I wanted to turn it off, but even after toggling it off (in the main security page in the tablet's menu), it ends up toggling itself back on a few hours later without my consent. Is that a common issue?
I went on the google settings page as well and unticked the two options to verify apps and send analysis info, and the funny thing is that merely accessing that page without changing the settings (and when they are already unticked) will automatically toggle the "verify apps" setting in the main security menu on the tablet. Although even if I dont visit that page, leave them unticked there and have it unticked in the main security menu, it will still toggle itself back on a few hours later in the main security menu.
What's going on here? Is google pushing that option to be on at all time to scan your apps regardless of users choice?
Has no one heard or experienced this issue?
To the people reading this who are using Kitkat, does your "verify apps" in the general menu remains unticked for extended periods of time without ticking itself back on? If so, do you have the latest versions of google playstore and google services? (can you even use old versions of those anyway? mine seem to auto update despite me having auto update disabled in the play store)
Anyone has any idea what is causing my issue and how I could solve it?
I just noticed this happening to me. It seems that if I uncheck it, then run the play store app, "verify apps" is checked on again. I don't know how to keep it off.

Disable background Wi-Fi in Offline mode

My Wi-Fi works in background (even when my phone is in Airplane (offline) mode) and drains battery. I checked Battery usage chart (Settings/Battery/Battery usage/History details) and saw that some proccess wake Wi-Fi after some time when phone is inactive and in Airplane mode. History details of Battery usage show that (after waking up) Wi-Fi stayed turned on even my power switch is disabled.
I have that problem since last update released in september. "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" option is disabled (choosed "Never (increases data usage)"). Also Viber's "Wi-Fi - sleep policy" option is disabled (choosed "Viber will use device's Wi-Fi sleep policy").
Can someone help me to solve this problem?
Phone model: Samsung Note 4 (N910C)
