Xposed on Stock OS - Verizon LG G3

Is anyone out there using Xposed Framework on fully stock software?
Wondering if it's usable. I'm on 23C.

You'll have to have a custom recovery installed in order to install Xposed - you can't install it any other way on Lollipop.
There's a thread somewhere in the non-variant G3 sections for "autorec TWRP", it's an app that'll install TWRP and the necessary bootloader. There's a separate 23C and 24B version.
Then you'll have to search here on XDA for Xposed for Lollipop 5.0.x. Don't confuse it with Xposed for Lollipop 5.1.x - I'm pretty sure they're different. Both are in testing.
There's also a beta version of the G3 TweaksBox Xposed app.

I used AutoRec and installed a TWRP recovery version that absolutely did nothing for my phone. I simply tried backing my phone up with it and it froze up. So I returned back to the stock recovery with that app. Maybe I just can't find the right one? Idk.

If it was for the VS985 and for 23C, than it was the right one. I never had that issue, maybe you should post about it in that thread though so they maybe they can help you with it. Another option is to use the app to install TWRP, then update TWRP to the latest version 2.8.7.0 via flashable zip, although I know I had used the version built into the autorec app to backup and restore 23C just fine.
Not sure where the G3 TWRP thread is. I think it was in the Verizon G3 Original Development but if I remember right, they might have continued releasing TWRP for the VS985 in a thread in the non-variant G3 sections. I think there was a link to the new thread from a post in the end of the old one.

Found it. Reinstalled the app and reflashed the recovery and now it works. Not sure why it didn't work the first time without freezing. Now if I can find the upgraded version of TWRP, install Busybox and then Xposed, my stock 23C should be good to go.
Thank you for your help, man.

You're welcome! Glad it works now. I think on the VS985 you can even flash TWRP from the TWRP Manager app, but only after first flashing via the autorec app since I think the bootloader gets changed too, but now that it's changed, you might be able to upgrade to the latest TWRP that way. Of course the flashable zip will be the safest route.

Got a custom recovery and a nandroid yet? Once those are in place, everything is an experiment that could go any way. Some modules are not compatible or functional with KitKat or Lollipop.
I wouldn't apply Xposed changes to any ROM--including stock--without having a recent backup ready to restore.

I somewhat have a custom recovery. I flashed some version of TWRP (whatever was included) via AutoRec for VS985 that can be found in Google Play Store but it freezes when trying to backup.
I just wondered if anyone here has tried using it with the stock lollipop software yet.

I am not familiar with AutoRec, but I get what it does. The key thing with our device is that the recovery must be "bumped" in order to work; other variants of the G3 do not need this. If a recovery cannot make a backup and restore it, it is pretty useless and you are kinda SOL if your experiment produces a SystemUI failure loop.
Follow the instructions found here to install the bumped recovery...
Then update your recovery to the latest version of TWRP via these instructions.
The OEM 10B stock ROM lasted about half a day on my device. I then moved to Jasmine to play around with stock. You might try that or SkyDragon if you want to experiment with Xposed on stock-based ROMs; the lastest versions are based on 23C Lollipop.

From reading comments regarding the lollipop update, I am seeing that Bump will not work with it?
I was entirely unrooted before I took the 23C OTA and then I rooted with the 1 click method, then installed TWRP recovery via AutoRec.
People talk about reverting from Lollipop (12C) back to 12B, Bumping, and then flashing a Lollipop based ROM.

I think that you are confusing "bump" with "Stump." Stump is an exploit to get root that only works with earlier version of stock; bump is a means of hacking the recovery to work around the bootloader, which is still technically locked on the VZW variant. Your recovery still needs to be bumped to work.
Rule #4 of Android hackery: Never accept an OTA.

No, I'm not confused. Stump is totally irrelevant... out of sight, out of mind.
Reading through the Bump post, they are saying Bump doesn't work with the Lollipop update. So with that being said, I cannot flash a Bumped version of recovery using Flashify while I'm on the stock/rooted OTA according to what is said there.

It can be done, you need to use the DD method and flash the 12b boot, 12b aboot and the latest bumped TWRP. I can not find the thread at the moment, but it can be done on 23C

Hello
You can always refer to the main thread so the OP will be noticed of some errors.
What exactly freezes ? If you refer to the xposed installer, it backs up and then reboots the phone to recovery mode and installs the flashable.
Easiest solution is to flash a bare bones version of Jasmine 7.0.
The author of JasmineROM has created .IMG files that are 99.9% stock 5.0.1 that are compatible with a Bumped TWRP. You can be basically stock with a stable recovery if you follow his instructions
Xposed on Lollipop has LG G3 specific issues.
It WILL crash if you don't freeze the Quick Circle app and LG Weather app. Read about it here (bottom of post #2)
Even though you're on Stock 5.0 it's doable, but Xposed is Alpha for Lollipop so you really shouldn't do it unless you have a reliable recovery.

Google "vs985 twrp 2.8.7.0 xda" and follow the links to download the recovery image. Then download flashify from the play store and flash your new recovery image using that. Are you using a custom ROM or stock Android lollipop?
I finally figured out how to root my phone on 24B and I've been using the Alpha xposed framework with little to no issues.

CyanogenMod - rooted phone, Now What?

Hello everyone, I want to install CyanogenMod on my Lg G3 (verizon) . I've rooted the phone, and downloaded the ROM for my device. Can someone please tell me the easiest way to install CyanogenMod.
I've read a lot about it and it sounds easy enough but, there are so many different ways of doing it, I'm afraid I'll pick the wrong one and end up bricking my phone!
Thanks in advance!

You can get the latest bumped twrp recovery here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/orig-development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-2-8-2-0-t2966129 Flash it with Flashify app from Play Store.
Boot into your new twrp recovery using flashify app. Make a backup! then wipe system, data, and both caches. You do not need to wipe internal storage or external sd. Now install cyanogenmod for vs985 and then the proper GAPPS file for the version of android you're using.
In the future you could also enter twrp by holding the power button and vol down at phone startup then selecting factory reset. Use an app to boot into recovery the first time tho, like holo reboot or flashify, so you're sure it installed correctly and that you won't actually factory reset.
If you're on 23C_01 (LG Lollipop), just flashing TWRP through Flashify won't work. Look in the Play Store for VS985 TWRP autorec and use that app. It'll install the right aboot.img (bootloader) so you can get into TWRP, too.

new to g3 verizon some questions

i just bought a used g3
software vs98524b
i see lots of references to 12c or 23b what are the implications of 24b
I am rooted already., but not bumped twrp
on other phones I have run cm11/12 but on my moto x i run stock lollipop + xposed because I didn't want to lose some moto assist / active notification. even with cm12 i have used xposed for a few features
Is there anything special in 5.01 i don't want to lose. i like double tap to wake and sleep, but sleep doesn't work with custom launcher
i know I cannot take 5.1 yet
do the stock based roms like skydragon retain them

Yes but what is 24b. A modem? Or a bootloader or just the rom
If I flashed cm 12 I wouldn't loose root....
Any stock features I people love. I see the double tap for off can be replicated. Do the stock based roms keep all the good stuff
Also it looks like 5.1 stock loses root an locks the phone down

Yup, JasmineROM 9.1 and SkyDragon v6.x are both stock 35B based ROMs. If you can't stand disabling Advanced Calling, then don't use them because you have to, currently.

Safe to update?

I recently got a new LG G3, and I have been messing around with it. I found out that I had updated it too far to root, so I downgraded and rooted. Now my phone is telling me that I can update my phone back to the version that I couldn't root on. Is it safe to upgrade to the newer version with my phone now being rooted? I don't want to have to downgrade and re-root again.
Before Lollipop, it was possible to be rooted and take OTAs and even keep root, as long as you had the stock recovery instead of a custom recovery like TWRP. With Lollipop, 23C and above on the VS985 when you have root, you can download OTAs but it'll fail to update, whether or not you have the stock recovery.
You have to install the latest TWRP v2.8.7.0. I don't know what you downgraded to so the way to install TWRP is different depending on what build of stock LG Android you're on. Then you can flash whatever stock 35B-based ROM you want, @xdabbeb 's VS985 v2.0, @hsbadr 's JasmineROM v9.0+9.1 update, or @Holy Angel 's SkyDragon 6.x, in order to be on the latest update and rooted.

JasmineROM 9.0+9.1 update is the closest to 100% stock, especially if you don't use it's optional debloat zip.
Note that if you want Advanced/HD Calling to work on it, you'll have to flash the 35B bootstack AFTER flashing JasmineROM, which you can get from @xdabbeb 's VS985 v2.0 ROM thread first post. Also note if you decide to flash SkyDragon, or re-flash JasmineROM, or run any CM12.1-based ROM you'll have to flash the 24B bootstack again from @xdabbeb 's thread BEFORE flashing JasmineROM, and then again you could flash the 35B bootstack after in order to get the 35B modem working, which takes more than just flashing the 35B modem over top of JasmineROM or SkyDragon.
Same thing applies if you flash SkyDragon and decide to switch to JasmineROM.
If you don't flash the 24B bootstack when needed, before flashing another ROM, you'll end up with the phone never showing anything but a black screen, but even though you can't see it you can operate it as normal at least as far as putting it in Download mode in order to flash a KDZ again to put it back exactly right and start fresh.
Hope I don't scare you.

Don't quite understand how to flash a bootstack.
I am on 23C, so from what I am understanding I will need to flash the 24B bootstack, install Jasmine, then flash 35B?
Is it easy to revert to stock if I don't like Jasmine?

Not wasting my time as long as you don't make me repeat things, and it helps if you do some searching since all of this information has already been posted in response to threads in the Q&A section and other places probably including part of the information earlier in this thread.
As far as installing TWRP once you're already rooted while on stock 23C?
Use @bender_007 's autorec app for the VS985. Get the one specifically for 23C. His thread is in the G3 (non-Verizon) General section.
Flash a boostack by choosing Install in TWRP and directing it to the appropriate zip file you would've previously downloaded.
If you're on 23C, you won't *have* to flash any bootstack before flashing JasmineROM because you're already on the 23C bootstack - JasmineROM will overwrite certain partitions with 24B stuff, and the remaining 23C partitions will work fine with it too, partly because both 23C and 24B are Android 5.0.1.
That being said, it won't hurt to get in the habit of flashing the 24B bootstack before any other ROM other than @xdabbeb 's VS985 v2.0 including JasmineROM and SkyDragon because doing so will save you some headache, the severity of which varies depending on the user.
JasmineROM 9.0+9.1+35B bootstack is as stock 35B as you're going to find for a pre-rooted flashable zip ROM. You *could* use more technical methods to get even more stock, and it's not difficult, but I wouldn't recommend that until you're more comfortable with how to do things on this phone. You could find everything you needed in @bweN diorD 's stickied thread in General, though.
Otherwise if you wanted to get back to 100% stock, unrooted of any official ROM, it's not very hard although some people have a little trouble with it. There's a return to stock thread either here in the General section or maybe it was in the non-Verizon G3 General section.

I'm just wanting to clarify, because I've read it in about 6 different places.
Best practices to install any ROM (other than the rom by @xdabbeb would be to
1) boot into TWRP
2) full wipe (cache, system,davlik)
3) Flash 24B bootstack
4) Flash ROM (AOSP/STOCK)
5) Boot System
6) Profit.
I am just summarizing, as this appears to be the clearest set of instructions I've seen by anyone. I appreciate your efforts in all the threads Road Warrior.

Of course, if you're flashing another 35B based ROM, although you want to start off with 24B bootstack, you *can* flash the 35B bootstack after.
[VK810.4G] [altev] [ViKtory810ROM] official LG G Pad 8.3 Lollipop 36B_00 5.0.2
[VK810.4G] [altev] official LG G Pad 8.3 Lollipop 36B_00 5.0.2 DEBLOAT SCRIPTS and copies of all the files they remove
[VK810.4G] [altev] OTAs, .IMGs and KDZs, oh my
I did forget to add wipe data, but I did mean that. So then the big question now is : If I want to flash one of the 6.0 roms sitting out there, and I've already flashed the 24B boot stack, do I need to do anything different? Or will that bootstack be ok? I haven't seen much about the bootstacks and 6.0. I wasn't sure if you have tried it yet or not.
TIA.

Nope, I haven't tried it. Someone else just asked me the same thing in PM (which bootstack). No matter what it shouldn't cause any catastrophic error and the worst you'll have to do is just flash a different bootstack or the ROM will tell you it needs a different if you flash the ROM after a certain bootstack.
To understand the reason some people's phone's had a problem after flashing other ROMs while being on the 35B bootstack: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64064555&postcount=5993.
You're welcome! Good luck!

VS985 47A - Stock Flashable Firmware

!!! PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE POST BEFORE PROCEEDING !!!
!!! I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY PROBLEMS THAT OCCUR WHILE INSTALLING/USING THIS !!!
This is a stock VS98547A firmware in flashable format. Big thanks to @roirraW "edor" ehT for getting us the 47A partitions!
FAQ:
Why isn't this debloated?
That wasn't the goal. I would HIGHLY recommend disabling OTA and all Verizon apps/services, however, as they are known to report your rooted status. There are plenty of threads here on xda describing this. You have been warned. The goal here was to distribute a full 47A base for all to do with as they please, nothing more.
Will you be updating this?
Unless I goofed and missed something on the initial upload, no.
What exactly has been modified?
I set the install up with a systemless SuperSU 2.68 beta, busybox, and removed a few LG Security checks. That's it.
Can I take an OTA with this installed?
Again, you should NOT take an OTA with this.
What bootstack should I use with this?
You should be on the 35B bootstack (located HERE). Without going into great detail, the 47A modem won't work without the corresponding 47A secondary bootloader (sbl1). Unfortunately, the 47A sbl1 doesn't play nice with the last bump-exploitable Android bootloader (aboot) we have from 12b. If you use that pairing, you'll put your device into 9008 bulk mode. So, that door is closed for now if you want a custom recovery or kernel. You are welcome to try using some of the other supporting partitions (dbi, factory, rpm, tz) to see if there are any improvements, etc. Just remember to stay away from modem and sbl1. Everything seems to work fine with the 35B set, but we'll find out one way or another as more people use this. I will look into a way to get the 47A modem working when I have time.
Will you be actively supporting this?
As this is a stock firmware package, any issues you have while using it are in LG/Google/Verizon's code. As such, I will not be supporting this. XDA has a Q&A section for general help.

Installing:
Make sure you have a backup in case anything goes wrong.
If you aren't already using it, flash the 35B bootstack zip (link above).
Wipe data & cache in TWRP (do not wipe internal storage unless you have the install zip on an external sdcard)
Flash the VS98547A FW zip below. DO NOT swipe the prompt in TWRP to install SuperSU. TWRP doesn't see SuperSU because it isn't in system, but it's still rooted. Also, the phone will reboot twice after flashing. This is a normal part of the systemless SuperSU install.

VS985 debloat scripts
Here's a link to my VS985 debloat scripts post for both the VS985 and VK810. My debloat zips have been updated and will work with both devices up to 46A for the VS985.
NEW: @@joshua70448 was kind enough to make an online tool to automate making custom debloat zips according to what a user selects to debloat:

I put together an online tool that lets you pick exactly which files to remove in a debloat script and builds the flashable ZIP and MD5 files for you (as well as a full list of deleted files).

Link to his online tool and to his original thread to thank in my thread I link to above.
These should work for 47A or any future stock ROM release as well. If they added any new bloat or changed the location of any bloat it would work for everything but what they changed.
The only things I've done to the debloat scripts every time a new stock ROM is released is added any new locations and unnecessary apps.
@RoxanaSchram linked a flashable zip of a standalone version of Verizon Visual Voicemail in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65417925&postcount=654
Here's a link to the non-flashable 46A Verizon Visual Voicemail app that the "All" and "Verizon" debloat scripts remove: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=28519. You'll have to extract it (I use ZArchiver in the Play Store), move the folder to system/priv-app and give the apk the same permissions that other APKs in other subfolders of priv-app have.
Most anything else you should be able to find in the Play Store.
Y'all are truly great! I'm going to flash the hell out of this soon.
Thank you for all of your work!
Thanx, For me, you said I was a little bit difficult???. actually, 12b bootstack +24b modem, can run well.

Thanks brot you are awesome... My question i can install xposed whit this rom

First! ☺
I probably will post debloat zips here sometime. Similar to my ones for the VK810.4G LG G Pad 8.3 I have, and have linked to in my signature below. They will partially work in the meantime, just some apps are in different places on the G3 so some won't get debloated.
My No OTA zip should definitely work though.
I'll post direct links when I'm ready.

Same precautions as usual, backup. It should work fine - mine just debloat more, but I got started by modifying @hsbadr 's with his permission. Debloating is just deleting files.

I don't understand what you're asking but they should be able to answer in the Xposed thread.

What is being asked is if the D855 Xposed support zip needs to be flashed so Xposed would work on 46A.
Will this rom remove twrp?
Advanced Calling
Anyone know if advanced calling/HD voice works with the 35B modem on this ROM, or do we need to get the 46A modem working for that? Do we need to disable it to get any call audio like we did in 35B with the 24B modem?

Okay, thanks!
No idea, haven't tried yet. Make a TWRP backup, try without and see what happens. If broke, restore backup and try with it.
