I have a nexus 7 installed in my dash and am currently using a 5s to wifi tether. I am looking at picking up a used one m8 tonight and I'm hoping I can USB tether to my tablet? The tablet is setup with an OTG cable in host mode, rooted and running Timur's rom. Is this possible or can you only tether via usb with a PC?
The M8 supports Wi-Fi tether. Whether it hides your tether usage is another story. There may be a few zips to flash to hide the tether usage or foxfi might work. I can say on my AT&T m8 I converted to T-Mobile, I am able to tether but can only mask USB tether usage or Wi-Fi via foxfi Wi-Fi share from my PC.
I'm not worried about masking, just hoping to be able to tether over usb. Would be nice to have the tether connect automatically and not have to re-connect every time I get in and out of my car. I'm hoping USB would accomplish this.

How do you guys do wireless tether with this phone? Whenever I try to use the Wireless Tether app, it creates an ad hoc network that I can't get my laptop to connect to. When my friend uses the same app with his evo, I have no problems connecting to it. Something about it having an infrastructure mode?
So, my question is, what do you guys use/do to successfully wirelessly tether to this phone?
Barnacle wifi tether if you insist on wifi tethering; or you could use Easy Tether for wired, but i believe it needs to be sideloaded
On a related note (sorry, don't mean to hijack), does the stock OTA 2.2 have the same tether tracking as the leaked version from earlier this year? I really don't want to pay the extra fee for something I'll use less than once a month.
im not sure what to do. i have an android 2.2 phone with 3g data service. it has tethered successfully to an xp pc. but i cant get it to work with a win7 starter edition netbook.
i connect the phone via usb to the netbook. the netbook connects to the phone and asks to choose home, work or public. i choose home, but it doesnt allow internet access. i tried portable wireless hotspot option too but still the same... netbook connects but no internet access. btw the netbook connects fine with internet access on all other wifi networks. help
Have you tried any other wireless tether apps? e.g.: https://market.android.com/details?id=android.tether.

cant seem to get barnical or that wireless tethering app to work on my galaxy nexus (verizon) 4.0.2 (its rooted and unlocked)
im a android newb so not sure if i did something wrong or its the app not compatible yet?
i had to sideload it (verizon blocks it.....)
Hi, I've searched the forums for similar questions and didn't find anything.
I have a laptop that can connect only in 802.11b & 802.11g. When I run wireless tethering in my phone (enabling ap in wireless connections because I have the stock firmware), my laptop can't find the access point. It looks like the phone is using 802.11n by default when doing the wireless tether, preventing my laptop from connecting. If instead of using the built-in wireless adapter of my laptop, I use a wifi usb stick with 802.11n, I can connect without problems. I would like not having to use the stick, though.
How can I disable 802.11n when doing wireless tether in my phone?.
Maybe I have to download an app from the market in order to instruct my phone in doing the wireless tether in g mode?
Thanks in advance.
No one has an answer?

I want to use the wireless tether in my SGS3, but unfortunately, mi laptop only supports 802.11b/g, while the SGS3 also supports 802.11n. I can't connect from my laptop to the SGS3. The laptop "sees" the wifi hotspot and displays the settings of the hotspot as "802.11n", but it can't connect. I suppose the culprit is the wifi standard used.
Anyone has tried the built-in wireless tether in the SGS3?
Anyone has tried another wireless tether app?
I have tried Wireless Tether for root users and it doesn't work.
By the way, my phone is rooted.
Thanks.
I can currently tether my Verizon GS3 to my laptop using WiFi Tether for root users. I want to bridge a connection to my ethernet port so I can connect my original Xbox to play online via Xlink. Everything goes fine until I bridge the connections because I suddenly lose internet connection to my GS3. This has worked for me in the past when I used my OG Droid on a 3G connection. Anyone have any explanation on what could be causing it to not work?
My settings in WiFi tether are:
Device Profile: Generic ICS
Setup Method:Netd(master)
This is what I gathered was how to get wireless tethering to work for me, and it has.
