For those who are bothered by the whispers of the QFUSE blowing with a Unlocked or Locked Bootloader :
You can :
Unlock and Re-lock the Bootloader with the stock out the box - The QFuse will say ENABLED
Wipe the system Partition - AKA no android OS installed and Lock and Re-lock - The QFuse will say ENABLED
Flash the Factory images Manually ( Boot / Bootloader / Radio / System / Userdata / Cache / Vendor ) - The QFuse will say ENABLED
The Finger Print Scanner IS NOT disabled with an unlocked boot loader or Rooting.
Current root has allowed me to run - Adblock plus and Root Explorer ( paid )
Flashed TWRP and rooted and left bootloader unlocked Qfuse is still enabled.
what happens when you unlock and flash a custom recovery?
Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
The QFuse is actually an array of different bits that control several different things on the device. In this case, we're talking about the Qualcomm secure boot fuse, which is actually blown at the factory (hence it always being enabled) to prevent an insecure bootloader from being run. It does not track any modifications to the phone other than that, so whatever you decide to do, the bootloader will always read the same thing. I think people are confusing this with Samsung Knox, which is specifically made for tracking modifications and storing them for warranty purposes.
I found this information that's a couple years old, but presumably still accurate:
Much of Qualcomm's security architecture is implemented using QFuses, which are software-programmable fuses that allow one-time configuration of device settings and cryptographic materials such as hashes or keys. Because of their physical nature, once a QFuse has been blown, it is impossible to "unblow" it to revert its original value.
If the FORCE_TRUSTED_BOOT QFuse is blown, as is the case on all production Motorola devices, each stage of the boot chain is cryptographically verified to ensure only authorized bootloader stages may be run. In particular, the PBL ("Primary Bootloader"), which resides in mask ROM, verifies the integrity of the SBL1 ("Secondary Bootloader") via a SHA1 hash. Each stage of the boot chain verifies the next stage using RSA signatures, until finally Motorola's APPSBL ("Application Secondary Bootloader"), "MBM", is loaded and run.

So, as kibmikey1 says, it would seem the Qfuse has nothing to do with unlocking the bootloader. It's just a way to set cryptographic keys in the hardware for verifying the authenticity of the bootloader, in a manner that makes it impossible to change the keys. In other words, once the fuse is blown the keys can't phyically be changed or overwritten. Presumably Google has the key and can sign new bootloader images correctly, so that when there is an update to the bootloader it will be verified properly by the chipset.
One has to wonder, how did the rumor start about the Qfuse being a way of tracking bootloader unlocks?

Deemed as a good excuse not to root or scare others off.
Have you tried to use Android Pay while rooted? Curious if it really does cause the cards not to read (since a workaround is needed to even add cards to begin with)
I'm curious about just unlocking the bootloader and the status of Android Pay?

Anyone's Nexus imprint flaky after bootloader unlock? About 80% of the time when I place my finger on the sensor, it wakes up to the lock screen (waiting for pin code I set up). Other times it wakes/unlocks to home screen. The only thing I have done is unlocked the bootloader and installed my apps via play store..
I have even started to disable apps that could interfere like Cerberus, but it does not seem to have any affect..

If you use an app that turns off the screen, this will happen. I made the same mistake and restored the 'Screen Off' app.
I have since uninstalled it and locks my phone with the power button exclusively. Not as convenient, but I really like the Imprint

Don't mean to hijack as imprint is different, but I'm interested in a definitive response on this also. As of 12 hours ago, I hadn't been able to locate this info. I've read that unlock disables Pay, but I'm not sure that was from a non-rooted user. On N5 L, Android Pay works with unlocked bootloader. So, has anyone been able to use Pay on non-rooted, unlocked 6P?

My 6P's bootloader is unlocked. I haven't changed anything else (stock recovery, unrooted., etc) and Pay works fine for me.

Has there been any word from sprint or HTC about the status of the e3d bootloader on launch day?
it will be locked at launch which is not a problem. the problem is that it will be cryptographically signed at launch

well technically every phone is locked but the term locked/encrypted is used with one another so my question is about the encryption status at launch?
HTC has had almost a month from when they reversed their policy til launch. I was wondering if they are ready
I can't find the link, but I thought I read somewhere a week or so back on Android Central (maybe) that the 3D will ship encrypted then later on (who knows how long) HTC will offer a software update that will un-encrypt it so we can have access to the bootloader/nand and be able to write ROMs and Kernels.
I could be wrong, so take it with a grain of salt

why? they have already said they will unlock it. do you know how long it takes to get things done in the real world? they will have to create a tool or new bootloader that is switchable. these things need to be created and thoroughly tested before rolling out to avoid potentially bricking phones. not to mention all the red tape im sure they will have to go through with the carriers. it will happen, but i wouldnt guess within 30 days so you might as well just not buy it.
now the devs who got the dump with the engineering bootloader may get the phone unlocked within that time frame but thats a different story

exactly thats why i started a different thread trying to discuss the official unlocking vs unofficial. Unless this engineering leak really came from HTC to keep us happy why they try to do their thing.
But I for one would love to know what their plan is.

eh I should have been more specific i was referring to the samsung phones being pieces of crap I can wait for the unlocking no biggie there.
Depending on how the phone operates out of the box, I think I can wait however long it takes for them to unlock it. I don't use wireless tether hardly at all, and aside from that, that's the only reason I would need to root it. I prefer stock ROMs sometimes, as long as they're responsive. I can go with custom ROMs built to look stock if the stock ROM functions crappy.
I will tell you the status when I have the phone in my hands.... LOL

Fast Boot is enabled which is why the phone boots up so fast. When you power off the phone it is in hibernation and not completely shut down. Disable fast boot from menu>settings and you should be able to boot into it by pressing volume down and power.

dare i say it, after so many months of toil and sweat at the hands of our devs in attempting to unlock our bootloader, has the holy grail now become a quest to re-lock the booloader, essentially placing the chastity belt back on for a virgin warranty policy?
does anyone care about this issue? are there any devs working on this issue? or have they all abandoned the atrix for a shiney new sgs2? should i just throw caution to the wind and unlock my bootloader? only to find that the next day i need to utilize my warranty for a new (refurbished is more like it) atrix?
There are plenty of devs still working on the Attic! Who do you think is working on CM7?
I say man up and go for it
Can't re-lock the bootloader because it's a hardware unlock.
When you unlock the bl...it actually burns a fuse link out on the hardware...you cannot re-lock it.
wow no ****? burns a fuse? i didnt realize software could make such hardware changes, so I guess its a pointless endeavor to try to relock, is it possible or are people attempting to hack the unlocking method so it does everything but blow the fuse?
Under the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act, unlocking your bootloader wont void your warranty unless that is what specifically causes the problem.
The first time I did unlock it worked fine, installed cwm, tried different kernels, then I reflashed original rom and my unlock was gone (no access to recovery and no "unlocked" on screen), had to re-run pudding again...hows is this possible with blown fuse?

Motorola employs eFuse technology developed by IBM. This allows circuits to be altered at the silicon level physically. There is a chip in the phone which utilizes the IBM eFuse technology and blows a fuse if the stock bootloader cannot be verified.
All that is being done in those videos is flashing a SBF to remove the word unlocked from the boot logo screen. This is common knowledge, but does not repair the blown fuse.

New and happy Note 2 user. I've always unlocked and rooted all my devices, but I need to know how rooting the Verizon version with Casual is coming.
With the Gnex I could root, unlock and unroot and lock the bootloader at any time and it was awesome. But with my transformer infinity once unlocked you can never relock the bootloader.
I am decently pleased with the stock performance and I've been able to theme to an acceptable degree on stock. I have become fond of a few bloatware apps for the s pen and dont wish to give them up. There is one app I need that I must root to use however. Problem is that once I unlock and root I know there will be some DRM issues with hulu, netflix, gplay and such that I use almost daily while traveling (90% of my job) that I would prefer not to have to hack around like I have in the past.
Also expect to need an insurance claim eventually.
So, basically I want to know if I can use casual and get try it out and return to 100% stock with locked bootloader?
Thanks in advance.

More specifically, see section 1b.
As far as I know, and someone can correct me if I'm wrong, you once you are unlocked, you can load the original stock image w/ locked bootloader through Odin.
I wouldn't worry too much about it though. I've never seen any evidence that Verizon actually checks the phone when you return it. I had to return a Rezound that was S-OFF once because the USB port went bad and I never heard a peep about it from them. I've heard of others returning with CM installed and never having any issue. I'm not saying they 100% never check, but I haven't actually seen any evidence of it.
Also, I can't speak to Hulu or GPlay (don't use them), but I watch Netflix on mine all the time and have never had any issues with it.
You can Odin stock locked. I had to do it once already.

I know I could most likely get by on the insurance front, but I prefer not to risk it. Verizon is out to get me and my unlimited data plan right now, and I have to be extra careful not to have any red flag at all. I've been fighting to keep it. Just found out yesterday they won't allow me to add hotspot capability to my plan without taking away my unlimited data. (I added hotspot about a year ago no problem, but removed it because I wasn't using it while traveling abroad for a few months work.)
Hulu and GPlay are the ones that really check for unlocked bootloaders, Netflix I've only heard of having issues recently.

Hmmm the Nexus 6P comes with a qfuse. It will be activated if you unlock bootloader. You can lock your bootloader back, but you cannot restore the qfuse. Qfuse is a hardware, once trip cannot revert back. Once QFuse is tripped, no more warranty.
Check the attached pic which shows qfuse in the bootloader.
read below forum for more discussion on this:
http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/97415852-post1515.html
What is qfuse:
Qfuses are one-time-programmable (OTP) elements that are used to enable and disable security and debug features of the MSM7xxx device. The Qfuses are implemented as anarray of one-bit fuse blocks. The Qfuse banks are used for two purposes — providing non-volatile, immutable storage of data, and configuration of hardware features. For immutabledata storage, the Qfuses are read via a shadow register which contains the actual valuestored and includes error correction. For configuration, each Qfuse is associated with a one-time write register. The value of each Qfuse is sensed at powerup and stored in a register. Blowing Qfuses is done byplacing a value to a register and applying current to the fuse. The fuse registers areaccessible through JTAG and software readable address locations.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...owing-off-usb-type-c-port-and-snapdragon-810/
That's not cool
Maybe the qfuse is part of the "save fingerprint partition".
Wow, on a Nexus that's a disgrace.
Oh well, I'm not really sure why we still need a lot of that.
The only reason I really needed root anymore was for bypassing tethering, but most don't worry about that with shared data.

My N6 with a bad battery disagrees with you, if N6 has efuse I would have been out of luck with Moto in replacing it under warranty, you can't replace a sealed bad battery with ADB.
Definitely want to get a concrete answer on this. I was planning on unlocking the bootloader right when I got the phone but now I'm skeptical. If this really will void the warranty, **** Google. It's a nexus. We should be able to do whatever we want to.

I'm assuming the "re-lock" guy didn't know that the fuse value was different.
It seems xiaomi is punishing its users for unlocking the bootloader coz my device was bug/error free until i unlocked the bootloader and was FORCED to factory reset by the unlock tool.
1) gps hardly gets a fix now and it was working fine before unlocking bootloader!!!
2) security app now has one icon(game boost )!!!!
3) wireless display is laggy and choppy and it was working fine before unlocking the bootloader.
why cant xiaomi make a device as good as the mi max 1??!!!!
It seems like You have some sort of PARANOIA.
Everything works fine for us (others).
What? there are literally TWO popups that tell you unlocking will erase ALL DATA, not only that but they give a 5 second count down before you can dismiss them.... Test your gps outside to see with some app.

yes i read those popups but you cant unlock the bootloader without having a reset.....its forcing indirectly!
testing gps outside ......any device with gps onboard will get a fix outdoors!!!
my poco had a gps lock indoors in under 3 seconds before the Forced reset!!.
my 3 years old lenovo gets a fix in places where the poco doesnt!!.

!!!!!!!!
so if you dont want to lose your data backup before genius.
I had the GPS issue, I fixed it by disabling the battery saver feature for Google maps under Manage Apps.
Also had an issue when the phone was on 2G, so I forced it to only 3G/4G.

This whole thread is so misleading and not true.
If you have issues I suggest you seek on the forums for help or change your thread.
Obviously unlocking the device you get informed not once, not twice but 3 times that the data will be deleted.
As for the rest of your issues it aint true in terms of triggered or punished by unlocking. Only feature that doesn't work is "find my device" by xiaomi meaning you can use Google option instead.
GPS locks on within 1-2 seconds if not quicker and yes my device is unlocked with magisk GPS optimization module also.
Change your header of this thread and state what you need help with instead.

yeah right,my thread is not true and so is the screenshot i attached!!!
my gps locked within the same 1-2 seconds before factory reset, now it hardly locks!!.
I didnt even flash any recovery or root for gods sake,my device is on stock global "stable" miui 9.6.25.
That's their new policy. Wipe data after every bootloader unlock. Sometimes try to search for it rather than sharing a source of confusion for other newbies.

First, Learn how to read.
Secondly I didn't say your issues ain't real now did I.
Read your own header and understand what you are saying with that statement.
Oh yeah I've got an unlocked device. Guess what my security app works.
Again your header is misleading and so is the thread.

well, they had the bootloader unlocking waiting period extended before and changed their policy back to 72 hours so policies arent concrete.
I dont mind doing a reset but to restore my device behaviour not to make it worse.my device was error free until i had the reset.

Your at fault for going ahead with the bootloader unlock and expecting everything to work perfectly when you were warned of what could happen before proceeding.
Here is a snippet of the risks you accepted when using the unlock tool, taken from: https://c.mi.com/thread-1479882-1-0.html
Risks of unlocking Mi Devices?
- By unlocking the device you agree that this may bring changes to some parts of the system. These changes may damage the device.
- After the device is unlocked, it becomes less secure and more vulnerable to malware attacks, which may lead to the disclosure and loss of your private data.
- Some features which require high security level (e.g., Find device, banking apps, added-value services, etc.) will no longer be available.
So no Xiaomi is not punishing users at all, you just got unlucky.

the phone still has antivirus app within the security app and it gets regularly updated.
I didnt loose any data coz i had everything backedup on my pc.
features like find device, banking apps...etc are features i dont really need.
I guess my fault is that i didnt try the older version of unlock tool that i used with my still perfect mi max 1 which didnt do an obligatory factory reset.
So if those are the risks forewarned by xiaomi before letting you unlock your device, how is this punishing the user? ?
Just wonder, if you go for another factory reset now, will the problem exist again?
Have you install twrp?If yes, try wipe data there.
