Not sure if everyone knows but if you have Nova or another activity launcher app there is a Content Adaptive Backlight Settings activity which brings up a Qualcomm app to turn off or adjust Backlight based on content on your screen. It is found on many other phones and apparently it is also on our Nexus 6P.
I haven't noticed much of a change but others say it changes when screen brightness is set below 50% and content changes from bright to dark.
Wonder if this will make any difference to yellow tint some people have been noticing. It seems to be worse at lower brightness settings so maybe this will help.

I don't seem to notice a difference with it on vs off (unlike the Samsung versions which it's pretty obvious)

This has nothing to do with screen calibration. What it does is changing brightness to accommodate different contents users are trying to view. In other words, even if you have set the brightness at minimum, when you go to gallery the phone will raise the brightness so that you can see the photos as they were taken. If you have brightness set to high, but when you open reading apps, the screen will lower brightness automatically, etc.
There is no user override for this function in today's smartphones, other than root.
good for battery life?

Thanks. Those instructions were perfect. But like the OP, don't see any difference at all. I changed the setting from Auto to Low which should give me the best battery. Didn't see any visual changes at all. Let's see of it gas any impact on the battery life.

I've found it to be annoying. It reacts slowly so it ends up just blinding me after the fact at night time. Wish I could disable it
Can you greenify it without any problems?

The default browser has a blue tint by default and I thought this is some problem with the screen. Searched forums and found a lot of owners complaining the same. I installed Dolphin browser and there was no blue tint.
Finally found that the blue tint is because of power saving feature. This cannot be controlled from the Settings -- Display instead there is a separate Brightness and Colours option available in the default browser!!
Launch default browser
Menu (scroll down to see more options) -- Brightness and Colours
Select Default (Default browser background colour) -- Ok
The blue tint is now gone
A browser restart will reset these changes. To make these changes permanent:
Settings -- Power Saving
Background Colour (uncheck)

I understand but mine doesn't have a Brightness & Colors setting which, as I see, others have encountered. Therefore I went to change the browser to Opera or Dolphin, or Chrome, but see no way, thought I have followed instructions, to change one of those to my default browser. Seems they all have the necessary settings greyed out. I feel like a rat trapped in a maze and it is making me see why iPhone users like the more intuitive nature of that device. Any help, short of telling me switch phones would be appreciated. I was a programmer for 25 years. I feel like an idiot with this.
No "Brightness & Colors"

Got same issue and only control over brightness.
If anybody has suggestion on how to fix this annoyance I would appriciate it (if a fix is available).
Also, is there a fix for making the browser use the system brightness instead of it's own setting? It's quote annoying to have the blue tint but even more so annoying when the brightness is like always wrong (ie. not same value as system setitngs).
EDIT: Well, the browser might not have it, but going to the system Settings -> Power Saving -> Background Colour and unchecking the tick-box did fix the stupid browser tint issue.
Thanks.

I'm using the Nexus 5 with Lollipop and wanted to disable lock screen notifications for specific apps (but not the normal notifications that go in the notification bar). Is this possible? The only option I can find is one that disables the notifications for that specific app in both the lock screen and the notification bar which is not what I want.
TIA
You can hide the content of a notification on the lockscreen by going to settings->notifications->notifications on lockscreen, then select the app and you should see the options.

Thanks for the reply but I don't have that option. I'm using the Nexus 5 with Lollipop (OTA update). Build LRX210. The exact options I have are Settings->Sound & notification. I have attached screen shots of the settings I see under there.
Any ideas what's going on and why I'm seeing different settings to you?
Click on "App notifications", I was not sure, how it was named in English as I have German set as my phone language.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have already looked under there but there is nothing to control this. There is 2 or 3 settings under each app depending on the setting you have for When Device Is Locked.
I have set mine to Hide Sensitive Notification Content so see the attached image for what I see with this option enabled. If I change the setting to Show All Notification Content then a third option appears (as can be seen by the other attached image).
The third option does not remove the notification from the lock screen, it only removes the sensitive information so that's not what I wanted.
Any other thoughts?
Ok, I have experienced both 4.4.4 and 4.4.2 now.
Other than the usual changes (useful ones like (probable) radio improvement - though I can't personally vouch for it, and useless ones like new and updated bundled apps), there are a few interesting changes which I did not read about online.
For the benefit of everyone, I wanted to document the interesting changes that I have noticed. I am running 4.4.2 KOT49H.N900VVRUCNC4.
1. Switching to 4.4.4 removes the "Shutter sound" option from your camera app. So you can no longer switch it off, however, if you switch to silent mode before taking a picture then the camera will not sound.
2. Sticky icons are removed in 4.4.4.
a) Smart stay- In 4.4.2, a grayed out eye icon will always remain if you have enabled smart stay. In 4.4.4, the icon only comes during every time-out, when the phone is deciding whether to stay, and disappears within half a sec.
b) 4G icon - In 4.4.2, even when Wifi is connected, 4G icon is displayed grayed without the up/down arrows. (There doesn't seem to be a way to get rid of this, Wanam options don't work.) In 4.4.4 either Wifi or 4G icon is shown, not both together.
Edit: The following happened only because of Wanam as pointed out below.
3. In 4.4.2, if you set your display to auto brightness there will be a slider which you can adjust. In 4.4.4, auto brightness is not adjustable - there the normal brightness slider is shown, and if you change the slider it switches off auto brightness.

That actually shows up once Wanam Xposed is installed. The +5/-5 slider is not there on stock 4.4.2.

Thanks! Edited. I did not realize it is from Wanam theme as I didn't explicitly turn it on.
Just noticed it doesn't do that hover thing over the lock screen. Not sure what it's called but when you hover your finger over the screen it detects where your finger is and shows ripples. Also there is a different color effect on the ink effect but I can't get it working yet, maybe after a reboot

Calendar Location
Prior to the update, The location in calendar events was clickable and would take you to google maps.
For me, that no longer is the case, has anyone else seen this?
HUH. After the Update new events have the Location Link...
Maybe that was a fix on the NK1 release?
Hi guys,
I cooked up some tasker mods to address some of the graciously few problems I have with the software of the mate 20x. I thought they might be useful to some of you guys so I figured I'd share. The plugins used are AutoInput, AutoLaunch, AutoNotifications, and AutoTools.
Mod List:
1. Fixed Auto-rotate Lock: uses the quick tile to auto-rotate or lock to any orientation
2. Swipe Recent Apps Switcher: cycle through previous apps by swiping on the bottom of the screen ala iPhone
3. Auto-disable Eye comfort: pop-up prompt when activating chosen apps that automatically disables eye comfort mode
4. Automatic Screen Filter: activates the free app Night Screen when brightness is set to minimum and disables it when brightness is raised
1. Fix Auto-rotate Lock
There are two versions of this mod, one which uses the system quick tile and one which uses an AutoNotifications quick tile. The AutoNotifications quick tile is more reliable and allows you to seamlessly lock orientation in landscape or inverted. The system quick tile is more clunky and you cannot lock in inverted, but it's a bit faster. If anyone knows where to find the system quick tile icons please tell!
Simply import the profiles to Tasker and turn them on. Choose "Rotate On" for the system qt or "AltRotate On" for the AutoNotifications qt.
2. Swipe Recent Apps Switcher
This mod will track all activated apps in an array so they can be systematically called back. It also offers swipe gestures at the bottom of the screen which can be used to cycle through them. Swipe left or right to go back and forth through your recent apps. After settling on an app, the app list will be updated to bring your active app to the front.
To install, import and turn on all profiles and run the swipe task. The Swipe task must be ran to provide gestures. The overlay providing gestures is at the very bottom of the screen, so just swipe your finger along the screen edge. Modify your settings and profiles to make sure that Swipe, AutoTools, and Tasker stay on with full permissions. This mod requires that tasker monitoring use accessibility. In the no root version some apps will refresh their state when activated (es explorer). This is because apps are 'launched' and not 'brought to foreground'. In the root version this is not an issue.
3. Auto-disable Eye comfort
This will provide a discrete pop-up in the corner of your screen when you activate the selected apps. I set up the profile with the apps I use for photo and video editing. When you click the pop up it will automatically open the drawer and disable the eye comfort quick tile. The pop up will go away in 5 seconds if not clicked, or can be swiped away.
To install, place the "bubble" folder in your AutoTools webscreen folder. The file paths should match up, but you may need to modify them. Import and turn on. The no root plugin uses AutoInput to press the fourth quick tile. If you have eye comfort on another quick tile you will need to change the touch coordinates. The root option will, if prompted, automatically switch eye comfort on and off as you switch between monitored apps. If you dismiss the prompt it will not ask again until eye comfort is toggled.
4. Automatic Screen Filter
When brightness is lowered to the minimum level, this mod will launch the app Night Screen to lower the brightness with a screen filter. When the brightness is raised above minimum it will turn night screen off.
You can change the app used, but it must have a toggle or on/off activity to be launched by secure settings. I found Night Screen to be the best for me. Import and turn on profiles.
There may be some bugs due to inconsistent Tasker monitoring and the system messing with things. Unfortunately there is little I can do about this.
ps. the zip is NOT installable

I vastly improved the app switcher to function much more intuitively and more like a native function. It's works pretty much exactly like on the iPhone, accept the animations are going the wrong way. I'll test it out a bit then update the post.
You sir are incredible
Post has been updated with a new app switcher, a root app switcher which fixes the launching problem, and a root eye comfort prompt which modifies the setting directly and has enhanced functionality. Also now none of the mods are dependent on the Secure Settings plugin

Such as:
Auto speakerphone when call connects by default
When I get in the car, show a list of media players as a popup (bc bt connected)
$60 via PayPal thx
I really appreciate the offer, but thats not how xda works. This is where people help people, and I've benefited far too much through the days on the generosity of others to be greedy now.
I took a quick look and it and there is a State profile called "BT Connected". You should be able to check your bluetooth settings for the exact name of your car and insert that into the Name field. Then you would make a Scene containing buttons corrosponding to your desired media player. This should be reletively straightforward. When the BT is connected, show the scene with the buttons then launch your choice. This can be done with the AutoLaunch plugin or by android intent by running code 'am start --activity-reorder-to-front PACKAGE_NAME/MAIN_ACTIVITY'. The main activity intent is easily found through terminal if you're rooted but I dont remember how to find it if you're not rooted.
For the call I would use the State profile "Call". I am not sure if this will activate after the call is connected or while the phone is ringing for incoming calls. If its when the phone is ringing I would then set up a loop with "AutoInput Query" to check whether the call was connected. Run a couple tests with the query to see what the variable values are when the call is connected and check for those values to escape the loop. When the call is connected, use auto input to click on the speakerphone button automaticly. You can use the auto option to configure this or you can go into developer mode on your phone and enable show pointer location to get the coordinates. Coordinates are faster that text matching, but you might have to add a wait for 500ms to avoid it touching too early.
That should be it, pretty straightforward. You've inspired me to update this list with my new rotate toolbar and fixes. Happy tinkering!
That being said, I would be willing to do it for you if you would rather pay for a finished solution. However, I greatly encourage you to give it a go yourself, the possibilities are endless once you get comfortable with Tasker.
Hey there,
I tried to turn my display color range to monochromatic in devveloper options and with app "Monochromatic". But everytime i turn display off, color range is back to all colors but monochromatic setting is checked.
Any idea how to fix that?
Thanks

In developer options, the option you select (Simulate Color Space or SCS) overrides the choice in the Accessibility Menu option. I use this option a lot, especially at night. It's a two-step process.
Go to Accessibility, scroll down to Color Filter, and toggle it. You won't be able to see options, and a note that says "Overriden by Simulate Color Space" should show. It should stay mono even after wake.
Color Space only affects your perception of the phone. It does not alter the phone's perception of its surroundings. If you take a photo using SCS, it will still be a color photo when you take it.
