Defective Units? - Nexus 6P General

I ordered a 32gb Aluminum on 10/30 with a delivery date of tomorrow, 11/3. Does anyone know which variants are coming up with hardware/screen issues? I've seen some random threads but I'm wondering if the incidents are isolated to a certain color or not.
So far I've noticed the following with other users:
-Screen having pink or yellow hue at direct angle (better at slightly off center angles)
-Minor cosmetic stuff like scuffs.
-Screen not mounted properly.
-Camera not functioning the way it's supposed to.
Is there anything else going on?

Yeah my 32GB Aluminum has a slight pink hue at low brightness, similar to the Nexus 6. The hue only appears when adaptive backlight is enabled.
I've already contacted Google about this and they said they'll investigate it "with the higher ups".

So only with low brightness and when adaptive is turned on, how low is low? I have the Nexus 6 and I always leave adaptive turned on, with my brightness about 3/4 of the way bright.
I really, really hope I don't have to go through an RMA, but we'll see come tomorrow.

Uneven speaker volume is another one to look for.
I am on 3rd 6p and going back for new replacement tomorrow. Can't stand uneven colours/pink hue!

I think the only way to check is visual.
But you will definitely notice it if you have it.
Mine top of the screen is warm white (amoled style) and bottom is blueish/ pinkish more like Oneplus One...
Very annoing.

That's what they said about the N6 but software fixed it - - mostly.

It's not just software I have two graphite models and the screen colors are different.

This is not really a defect, a lot of AMOLED screens at low brightness begin to shift colors to a pink/red hue. I guess yours just was a bit worse then others, no reason to RMA if it is only on lower brightness levels

Yeah, I went through 4 LG G3's because of issues with the Mic. Each one would last a few months then people would complain that they couldn't hear me on calls and that they'd miss every third word. Possibly just a software thing as you said, you could try fiddling with some settings like turning off privacy mode on the dialer and see if that works. Otherwise it very well could be the mic.

Just got mine last night. (16GB) straight from the play store. Has light bleed in the bottom left corner when holding in landscape. Didnt bother me enough to care. I watched The Dark Knight on it (alot of dark scenes) and I didn't even notice it.
Just got mine yesterday,....
expected some light bleed and wasn't disappointed. :silly: It isn't bad enough for me to agonize over and I'm very pleased with this tablet and my n7. :victory:
Every single tablet from all manufacturers are prone to some light bleed. It is just a matter of how much.
I just got mine Friday. It has light bleed too, but worse. It even has a yellow tint.
I was going to return it for a refund, then I changed my mind because this is really the perfect tablet.
I really was going to jump ship and get a surface pro at the end of the month, but I need a device that I am comfortable reading on as well.
Anyway I am waiting on this guy Chris from Google to resend me a cart link for my replacement.
Does Google people visit this forum?
Also I read somewhere Google is trying to get a hold on this quality control issue they were saying that this light bleed is not acceptable....is that true?
Thanks..joe
I guess if you need a tablet now ,we have to live with it..

If you're gonna search for problems with it then most likely you'll find some. Just don't get too finicky and see if you like the daily use of the thing.
I am happy with it just curious, I put brightness on full and turned off lights, I have two patch bottom right that are a lot brighter than the rest of the screen and it looks green in colour. Is this not the case with every unit then?

I am sorry, but there should be no light bleed. There is too much of it. I don't like apple, but 5 people I know who have an iPad 3 and 4 have ZERO point ZERO light bleed. Way should I buy a car that has a wind shield that leaks and then be told that its normal, everyone is having the same problem. That's just a company

It's not a samsung problem, every screen will burn in eventually. The lifetime depends of how you use it.
As a reference, I had my S3 since June 2012 and doesn't have any visible burn (screen time is about 1.5 hours every day).
Uh, there's no such thing called burn-in on OLED displays.

I dunno the specific word for it, but certain pixels are brighter than others, black being brighter than grey, thus they
I'll leave the tech stuff to someone more knowledeable, but what I do know is that it's not burn-in. It's a falsely used term for the actual burn-in CRT displays faced.
It is a degradation discrepancy because of asynchronous color degradation. In OLED they use organic material what is the main culprit. The blue OLED pixels degrade about 2-3 times faster than the other colors, which causes the often seen blueish tint in certain areas. OLED degradation is also much worse than current plasma degradation (with plasma it is also not burn-in but degradation).

My monitor is on 10h a day and it has no problem with pixel degradation,my old gs2 with 2-3h/day has gone in 11 months ,I don't want to spend 500€ on something that after a while will get burn-in,you cannot compare the lifetime of a lcd panel with an amoled

Well, to be honest, the OLED tech as it is used in current devices is way worse when talking about the burn-in like effects than most other applied techs. With LCD and Plasma (where plasma theoretically has the short end of the stick) the effects are practically non perceptible while with OLED it is a whole other story. The biggest noticeable effect is the blueish tint some parts of the screen can get because of certain bars (like the notification bar) or other long-term used (semi)-static objects.
Though, Samsung has applied some kind of a fix for the notification bar problem, namely making that bar grey in stead of solid black (which helps smooth-en the degradation process). Not many people seem to be aware of the reason and are all changing the bar back to black (AC/DC!!! ) which is not that good of a choice in the AMOLED supplied SGS3's.

Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Stop *****ing, it will degrade like any screen, yes it won't last you 5 years perfectly, expected lifetime is really 2 years max if you are a manic that uses his phone 10 hours a day with 100% brightness, expect degradation to start in a month that way.
Pretty satified with my screen, about 8 hours of screen on average daily, 70% brightness and still perfect.

Screen "burn-in" ?

Does anyone notice faded icons on the status bar to the left? Primarily the email and text message notifications (that are more frequently seen in my case). When I don't have a text msg or unread email I can still see it, its faded. Reminds me of the older plasma screen tv's where you get a "burn- in" as you'd say.
Does not seem promising for a phone I've had for 5 months now

Like said above, they go away, I just hope it doesn't get worse (would this be covered by LG? Because I have no insurance or anything else).
Its not screen burn in. Mine does it every once in a while. Its a software glitch. It goes away.
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda app-developers app
This sounds similar to what happens on the original Kindle Fire with its IPS screen (don't know if current models do it too). You could sometimes see ghost images in dark areas of the screen. It was not really burn-in, though it did tend to appear when you had a bright static image for a while, because it would go away. One thing of note was that the phenomenon varied a lot between units. I could occasionally see it lightly on mine, not enough to be significant, but for some people it was a bigger deal (Amazon replaced them under warranty).

SOLVED!
I found a fix for the black line! I had the same thing and last night for half an hour I used the burn in tool off the market and forgot I had in usb debugging screen never time out so whenever I got a text the screen would be on for hours but anyways after useing the tool I let it sit over night for about 9 hours and boom! Its back to normal as for the status bar that just a software bug because there was nothing about it in the older ota update so it must be a bug right?

I come from an amoled so I notice certain things involving color reproduction. The only experience I have ever had with an LCD other then this phone was an iPhone 4. After a while I noticed colors started looking cooler and a fog around the edges of my LCD. The other thing is sometimes the black status bar has white steaks (as if the light was bleeding thru.) I came to the conclusion that lcd were crappy compared to amoled but I ignored the fog till I read your comment I was thinking maybe I am picky with the color but no. There is an issue.

Visible digitizer grid

Even indoors, if the screen gets hit with direct light, there is a clearly visible crosshatch pattern across the whole display. Anyone else notice this?
Got to say I'm not too impressed with the screen quality. Light bleed, dead pixels and now this. My much cheaper Redmi 1s has none of these issues. Sure, the colours aren't as vibrant but not sure which I'd choose given the choice.

If you get direct light on the screen, you don't see the digitizer? I noticed it within a couple mins of using phone and wasn't looking for it. Never seen a digitizer so easily noticeable before.
I don't think its too much to expect at this price a screen without noticeable light bleeding, dead pixels etc. Honestly I think they used the European promotion to shift these phones with slightly subpar displays. Btw, I think you are overrating Sony's screens. They are known for the same issues I noticed on this Honor 7, even on their flagships.
I noticed this also but it happened to me after I removed stock "screen protector" and replaced with Nilkin tempered glass. I quess stock screen protector somehow filtered grid away.

I am very critcal when it comes to display, both with computers and smaller screens. Had there been a visible grid on my H7 I would have seen it, no doubt at all. I never could stand the Sony Trinitron support wires at the old CRT monitors, and a lot of people.never saw them!

I have several phones and never seen the digitizer except in bright sunlight. With the Honor 7 I noticed it indoors immediately. Even checking side by side now in same conditions, I can't see the digitizer on any of them except the Honor 7. The screen looks like it has a texture to it when light hits it, not like the usual barely noticeable digitizer pattern. I agree that its not really an issue though, more of an observation.
I think honor 7 is one of the best phones I have had for this. I have just spent a few moments trying to see it and can't. I have always been able to see it before. I still have the supplied protector on also, if that makes a difference.

Well.. into your eyes for straight ahead but tilted at light you can see from normal distance. It is minor issue though. I'm more annoyed with my dead pixel
When I saw your post I started looking for it, with different angles, different lights, etc... I can't see it !
I remember that it was sometimes visible on my Galaxy Note 2 and LG G3, but only with intense sunlight so I'll look again on the Honor 7 next summer I guess
I think the general product quality is the main factor, for example, I often see it (even indoors) on my Onda V989, which is a 130$ chinese tablet. (The tablet is great, but the screen has a weak max brightness).

It is very different looking than any other digitizer, so maybe you are looking for the wrong thing. It is not dots, and not a normal digitizer pattern. It looks more like a light texture on the screen. In daylight it creates a rainbow effect.

I'll check as soon as possible !

Screen issues!

Anyone else experiencing this? See attached photo. Bottom end of the screen, pretty much half way down and onwards, colours and get lighter at 0% brightness. Top of the screen is black, like an AMOLED panel should be, bottom is light with an almost green tint. Used a screen test app and can see the shift even more and also navbar burn/retention.
Not impressed.
As I ordered this on O2, via Mobile Phones Direct, who do I contact or do I go to Huawei? Only been using the device for a weekend!

Ok so on lowest brightness in a dark room the darks on xda for example is greyer bottom half of the screen. But tbh any oled I've tried struggle a bit at very low brightness on dark/grey colours. Staying that yours does look particularly bad on the bottom 3rd
I have that too in the bottom right hand side of the screen. I already spoke to Sky to get a replacement and they want me to send pictures.

I'm printing out the photos I've taken in colour and including it with me return, keeping them for my record too. They want me to factory reset the device so last thing I want is for them not to be able to replicate the issue. Unsure what tests they'll do, as it's going back to Mobile Phones Direct
That sucks mate. I've not followed screen issues on OLED devices closely across the brands...so surprised this is happening with a premo device. Hopefully there are only 1 or 2 cases for some of these major defects...as many more becomes worrying!

I know right!
Another thing, sorry for off topic is I've switched from Three to O2 (number transferred a few hours ago and now using O2 with old number) and I'm getting absolutely terrible 4g speeds. At work at the moment and signal hasn't always been the greatest on my office, but hoping when I test speed when I leave and also when I'm home that speeds are decent. Otherwise I may end up cancelling this phone and contract, and maybe I'll see about the Pixel 3 XL on a contact back with Three, or maybe I'll go sim only and get the Oneplus 6T - as the likelihood of getting root for this device is looking slim.....
Wait for 1/11, which ius the AUS release date of the phone and an extra week and see if Funky Huawei offer rooted versions of this phone. The hardware by itself is far superior...it's a same there's a lot of bugs and problems letting it down though...and then there's EMUI...
I've had similar issue on mine but it's down the right hand side.. Three sending me out replacement on 9th Nov when back in stock
It looks like your navigation keys caused this awful OLED burn-ins. Use gestures instead of the keys instead.

is there a way to change the background of the keys? e.g. to overlay on the app thats open rather than display on a white band?

Ive got the same issue only just started though which is weird!
if its carries one I am thinking of jumping ship not a massive fan of the curved edges but everything else about this phone wins for me just a shame they didn't keep it flat like the P20 Pro.
