My Zenfone 5 received today an OTA update (3.24.40.78) and I authorized it, but it went into a bootloop, maybe because it was rooted (I had the 3.23.40.52 version until now).
I couldn't risk not backing up some of the data I had in the internal memory, so I decided to try TWRP and it really helped on that issue (doing a backup).
But now I am stuck with a (soft) bricked device, and I really (!!!) need help with it.
I also have tried factory resetting, of course, but all it does is enter the bootloop again.
For some reason, TWRP sideloading is not working on my computer: the device is properly recognized in all modes but sideloading, it just vanishes, then comes back as a USB-connected device again when I mount it or go into bootload/droidboot. I tried updating drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and devices, etc., but no good. So instead of sideloading I went for the "install" option in TWRP (after copying the files to the internal memory, of course). But here is the bad part, I have tried four different versions and none work:
2.22.40.54: it shows "Device image SKU:" and nothing comes after that, then states "OTA image SKU: WW" (my device is WW!), then gives the following error:
Code:
assert failed: getprop("ro.build.asus.sku") == "WW"
return code 8
5.3.3.3 [i.e., trying to downgrade from Lollipop to Kitkat]: approximately the same error. It also leaves blank after "Device image SKU:" and, after stating "OTA image SKU: WW", it says "Please use the right SKU for updating".
3.23.40.52 [i.e., trying to go back to the version that was installed until today]: it says "Only higher than Android 4.4.2 20150409 image version can upgrade to Android 5.0" (but I was already on 5.0!).
3.24.40.78 [i.e., trying to properly install the latest version, that bricked my phone]: the error is "Only Android 4.4.2/Android 5.0 20150522-20151001 image version could upgrade with this package".
On all four cases it ends saying there as an error executing the updater binary in the chosen zip file.
My device was always WW, but I even tried tried to "change from TW" to WW by flashing fastboot and recovery img files from one of the zips, but all I got was a dead android robot logo, so I installed TWRP back again.
Please help...

Hi everyone,
I have a Sony Tablet S with Android Version 4.0.3 release 5a and I am having problems with the Android Software, the programs such as browser, games even android base applications keep crashing. The device is still under warranty and I sent it for repair however the service here requested around 100$ for software installation as it is not under warranty. This is too much for me so I decided to do it myself however. I have searched this forum and many more to find a solution however even I have tried every step described in forums several time I could not be able to reinstall latest ROM from SD Card. I really desperately need some help here as this device is purchased solely for my daughter who loves android games alot.
I really appreciate any help you may provide.
Thanks.

hello,
try a hard reset. hold VOL up + POWER and when you see the logo sony release the VOL up button. then choose a factory reset. do not have to install from sd card.
Already tried hard and soft reset. Doesn't work.
I will try to describe the problem in full detail. I have weird error messages like "Google Play Store stopped working" "browser stopped working" "clock stopped working" and such error messages and when I try to uninstall programs i can uninstall them however when the tablet restarts they are all there, I think machine resets it self. If i try to uninstall a program called "Ustream" the tablet immediately goes off, and restarts resetting it self again. Even the soft and hard reset can not solve the problem. I have tried to boot the device, it says it is booted (I have managed to run adb and flash tools) how ever when the tablet restarts it again resets it self having the exact same situation as before. I have downloaded the official R5A update from the Sony Website when ever i try to install update from SD, the machine stops saying the operation is aborted due to some error. There must be a way to reset this machine to what ever it was.

If you have adb, you can try to root tab and apply the backdoor patch.

I have already tried that. The adb, flasher and other tools that I have found in this site. All in one tool says it has succesfully rooted the device but whenever it boots it restores itself to a previous unknown backup with all the applications installed and I guess not rooted state. I have used the flasher yet it needs rooted device. I have tried to update the system from SD, it says the software is low version (5A). I can not do anything. There must be a solution for this.

After attempting root the tablet is rebooting into the other partition. (There are two system partitions). Can you try rooting again and on the last reboot boot into recovery and try to install R5a twice in a row without restarting from the recovery menu. Hopefully this will catch the system switch and install R5a on the other system

I have installed the driver several times, restarted the computer how ever it did not change. Last time I was able to see the device in the adb device list. But i do not know what I have done to achieve this as I have tired many options. Can you describe me how to do that step by setp?

After the update fail. Use adb pull /tmp/recovery.log and post it here and I will see what is happening
The flashing operation fails as the system can not access to the specified directory. Whenever I run the flashing tool the command windows background turns to red and I see this error. ADB can list the device yet I can not flash it.
By the way I have to reinstall all the drivers everytime I connect the tablet to PC, if I remove the cable and re mount it adb fails to list the device.
Hi everyone
This is my second post about the same problem. My sony tablet s has a strange problem, all the applicaitons, even the main window application crashes constantly and i can not use the tablet. I have tried to boot the tablet with "ADB" drivers installed and Sony Tablet S all in one V6.5 by Konrad.
When i install the adb drivers as described in the video, the adb devices command can successfully recognizes the tablet. However when I try to boot the tablet with the SonyTabletS program, it says it has successfully bootet it and after it restarts the tablet everything seem just as before, no "Terminal" application present and when I try to unboot the device with the same program it says "the device needed to be bootet first".
So I have checked the everything in the tablet and the problem as I have observed is the tablet always restores an unknown backup whenever it restarts. So whether I boot it or not when the tablet restarts all the programs, everything is restored to a previous state where boot is not applied.
I have also downloaded and saved the latest rom to sd card and tried to install this rom form sd however I always receive the same error message while it is verifying the update package. it says "erohibit update as a result of checking version or base sku"
I have get in touch with sony service here and they demanded to much money to reinstall the software although the device is under warranty. In fact the technician in the service recommended me to install to software bymeyself if I could.
So I need a solution and would appreciate any help you would provide.
Thanks.

Is your device rooted? If yes, you can apply the backdoor patch from aio and flash a signed ota zip from sdcard.

I have tried to root the device by using ADB drivers and all in one sony tablet s program provided somewhere in this forum however although the program says the tablet is rooted, when the tablet restarts I see that all the programs and everything restored to some previous backup. So the root is also removed. I have checked the programs in the tablet there seems to be no "TERMINAL" application visible. and when I try to unboot the machine the program says the tablet is no booted.
Ok i admit i am new at this so gentle please!!
I decided i wanted to update my Asus Transformer Prime TF201, i followed a link which offered me the perfect bootloader and looked like an easy way to update to 4.4.2 from 4.1.1 (i think they are correct)
I installed Flatline CWM Recovery V1.0RC1 (this i think was the mistake) , i never set up (or could not) the recovery part so i went ahead to install a file CM-11-20131229 for the TF201, it starts the procedure and then throws it out on error 7 the same applies to Google Apps.
I have read info on this and have come to the conclusion the problem is Flatline is outdated and that is the reason for the error 7.
Now in this version it does not support USB or SD connection and i cant see my cards or sticks just the Tablets internal memory where the update resides (which i cant load).
I cant see
a/ how to update the bootloader and how?
b/ How to load an image which is compatible with this version.
I see in the menu system of Flatline recovery there is a section with sideload, i plug in the USB and windows connects but i cant see it in terminal or doing the wrong thing.
Flatline does not go into the first menu where you can select USB , it goes straight into Recovery.
JUst cant see how i can update or load an image which is supported by version 1.0 on Flatline.
The preferred way is to update the Flatline to see the image, anyone help this old fool!!

hello everyone. I write from Italy: D ... and sorry for my bad english, i hope everyone can understand all
I bought the phone in china, but they have installed over the original sku, .. the version ww ..
I we say that i have a fake ww .
my build number was: ASUS_T00F_WW_user_2.21.40.30.20141208_43 release keys
I wrote that I have the Chinese version, because I found a mistake.
I updated the program CLEANMASTER, and when I opened the program told me disinstall the Chinese version of the same program.
In fact I had two CLEANMASTER installed
i try to downgrade to change sku, but
but now my phone will not charge more than the system Android. remains stationary at the first screen that says "powered by Android"
how can I do? What did I do wrong? I can recover it?
PS: I followed the guides online where they said to download files 1.14.40.50.WW cn and then 1.14.40.50.WW, and tried to install via adb
I found out later that I had to turn off the data and put into airplane mode
so I made before a wipe cache partition (with error "can't open /tmp/update-script.log")
and a wipe data /factory reset, where I selected "yes, delete all user data"
after i reboot in droidbox and i selected a factory reset.... and now looks dead.
the computer does not detect it.
Droidbox mode, and the phone connected to the PC, opening adb, the phone is detected and I can do the flash boot and fastboot
I can also send files in adb sideload
In droidbox the product is CN_A500CG .. but .before it was written only "Zenfone"
Please, help me
So I have been trying to fix this up for a long time yet with no success :
Aigopad N10 (bought in China in 2012), tablet that used to have a description page up Aigo website - and deleted long ago in my knowledge, quite hard to find its specs online.
Runs a Cortex A9 quad-core (Samsung Exynos 4412) 1Gb of RAM , 16Go nand + sdcard slot, and runs ICS + Aigo logos & such. Currently stuck in a bootloop.
From the tablet, I can only manage to reboot into recovery that's stock ( Android system recovery <3e> ) : so only features reboot, zip from sdcard, factory reset, wipe cache, apply update from cache.
-factory reset then reboot ends up entering the same bootloop.
-Back in the days when online customer service for this device still existed, I could manage to download the original firmware :
bootloader_mmc.bin, misc, ramdisk-uboot.img, set_bootargs, utscript, ramdisk-recovery-uboot.img, userdata.img, zimage, bootloader_sd.vhd, system.img
So I tried first to make a .zip myself following the basic tutorial and signing the file using the Java tool : still pops up as signing verification failed in android recovery
Then I tried to flash system.img using livesuit (both using Ubuntu and a win7 VM just to make sure) : getting the "invalid image file" error with every image (I read that proper livesuit images are quite specific, and unsuccessfully tried to use the unpack&repack tools, further on this way)
I also discover a russian IRu model that looks exactly the same and for which the whole device, especially the motherboard description- that of course have no serial ID or whatever- matches exactly. CPU is the same, and actually by looking at pictures of the russian model, they seem to be perfectly identical besides colors & painted branding. So I could also download an alternative firmware that would definitely fit the hardware - but same problem, not a proper livesuit image or properly signed zip for the stock recovery. Russian IRU model is IRU Pad Master E9701 (with the same specs)
Also I couldn't manage to use fastboot, since I guess it does not work natively with stock recovery, tried also to adb root, adb push and indeed ends up being ask to confirm on the device (or to enable dev options in android) which I obviously can not.
So I am running out of ideas, maybe someone has one for me ?
