Just root and uninstall the apps you don't want with Titanium. Problem solved.

Unlike Titanium and Root Explorer, this functionality comes for free.

how can you be desperate? you posted a day ago. i want a root myself, but take a breath and give the guys with the programming skills the time to do their magic!
that being said, i'd appreciate one myself.
I am also dying for root on this phone. It has been 2 weeks for me and nothing. The phone is slowing down a bi due to all the metro crapware installed that I cant get rid off without root.
Programmerrrrrsssssssss, we neeeeeedddd ROOT on the Admire please!!!
I have to admit that i'm looking forward to one too. I'm sick of all the bloatware they load that turns itself on when you have no need of it.
Right now, after using Advanced Task Killer and then checking 1 hour later with no actual use on the phone, there is "voice search", "Visual Voice Mail" and "myMetro" that are all running and unkillable.

So no one bricks their phones... Many of these are self-explanatory and you can figure most out from the icons, but better safe than sorry.
These are located in /system/app so don't go deleting things you're unsure of.
Easy-WiFi-android-4.0.136.apk - MetroPCS Easy WiFi
(You could leave this intact as it circumvents the login procedure at SOME public hotspots (such as Starbucks))
Metro411_V1.0.7.1_02042011.apk - Metro411
metroappstore1.5.apk - Metro App Store
(You may want to leave this if you want to rebloat your phone, but otherwise useless)
MetroBackup_1.70.apk - Metro BackUp
(We have droids, our contacts are safe with the benevolent Google, as long as your account is set up)
MetroPCS_Visual_Voice_Mail_3_14_04.apk - Visual Voice Mail
MetroSTUDIO_v1.00.30_Build30_03302011.apk - MetroStudio
MyExtras.apk - My Extras
(They're extra annoying)
MyMetro.apk
(May consider leaving as it allows you to view account info, but can be removed)
Samsung_R720_IMandSocial_V4.0.8_build0203.apk - IM and Social
(AIM, Facebook, Twitter, crap like that)
SamsungR720_MetroNavigator_4.9.1_Build_86_04252011 _rel_signed_PROD.apk - MetroNavigator
(We have Navigation for this)
ThinkFree.apk - ThinkFree Office
(May be useful to some people)
z7-android2x.apk - [email protected]
(Not necessary unless you don't use Gmail)
Hope this helps!

So, I've rooted my Admire, but there are still apps I can't get rid of. I installed SSHDroid, and even that won't let me delete files. I can't freeze them either, with Titanium Backup (Wishing I would have saved the cash). Everything says its running as root, but there's obviously some problem. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Hey Everyone,
I live in Sacramento CA and was told we have 3G here, but I've had my Admire since since Friday and still haven't seen a 3G on my phone.. Not even once! Is there something I need to do or download to make this happen? I tried taking out the battery and then calling *228 option 5 to update the prl, but still my phone is at 3019. My friend has had her Admire since Oct and today had our phones right next to eachother. She had 3G and I still have my 1X! The city we were in isn't even suppose to have 3G yet, and yet she had it! What is wrong with my phone??
Also I'm trying to root my phone, but I have no idea which site I should use to download the root.. I already have titanium backup (free version) and as soon as I'm rooted I will download the PRO.
Any help would be very very appreciated!!
Thank you!
Josh

Hey Guys,
I was wondering if there's a list of bloatware that can be deleted from the Galaxy S Player 5.0?
I've been looking at the Samsung Galaxy S2 list, and I was wondering if there's a different list for us to get rid of crap ware that I'm not gonna use...
Thanks in advance!

What you could do is either...
A) Freeze the unnecessary apps using Titanium Backup PRO
B) Backup the apps you think you won't need, then store that backup somewhere and uninstall them with Titanium Backup. Then if it turns out you need them, you can easily put the backup in your restore folder and return it to it's normal state.
C) Anything you can uninstall with the OS is most certainly unnecessary.

Not necessarily, if you delete some apps it causes others to Force Close and can make your system real glitchy.
To OP do this guys Option A) it is the best way to experiment with trying to see what is unneeded.

Er what I meant by Option C was apps that don't require a root or any special method to remove. But yeah, just freeze them for now and see what works. I posted a list of apps I've frozen so far in another thread about Free RAM, if you want to take a look through the forums.
Thanks, I'll check it out! There are a lot of samsung apps that I just wanna get rid of permanently! I'll freeze them first, then delete them as I don't need them.
Is there a vanilla version of Android Gingerbread for the Galaxy S Player 5.0 International? WITHOUT the bloat?
Will 'freezing' with Titanium Backup persist after a reboot? If yes, wouldn't we run into the risk of 'freezing it now works' but 'freezing on reboot doesn't'?
Thanks!

Yes it does persist after a reboot.. and I've frozen almost every app and had no issues. The OS will still continue to function just fine.

Off Topic - Heh, that is the library internet speed @ my university. My dorm caps out at around 15Mb/s - 20 Mb/s - Max when unthrottled.
Hi. I had no problem after following various threads finding out how to downgrade from 5.0 to a release prior to june 5th 2014 and towelroot but I do not wish to buy mobileodin and upgrade or ever end up with 5.0 but I can not find the answer to this anywhere...
How do I block OTA updates? I have found most devices you can change the extension of one or more files under system/app and that is how I would like to do it if possible. Thanks
PS I even tried searching Prevent OTA, Block OTA, Stop OTA, so I'm sorry if there is a thread on this already and it looks dreadfully obvious to someone else.
There are a couple of services you can freeze with Titanium Backup but I think you have to have the Pro version (which means you will have to pay) but if you are rooted, the OTA won't install successfully anyway. It will download and warn you that it's going to install, and then try to install and error out.

what services? will titanium tell me which ones? If I know what the services are and their file names, can't i just add ".bak" or anything to the file names? This is the problem, I dont know what they are called. I'm considering getting titanium anyway, so thanks for that info.

Sorry but I don't remember which services they are. But if you do some searching you should be able to find them in these threads. Titanium Backup will not tell you which ones. It's just a backup program. But it does have a lot of features and can freeze programs you don't want to run.

I did a simple Google Search on "services to freeze to block ota on S5" and found many articles that talked about it. You might want to give that a try.

when you say "found many articles" do you mean you got many hits? I have gone through nearly every one of the first couple pages of results I got from that search before comming here. The only one that actually talked about the specific files did not mention the T-Mobile variant, and the files for the other variants were not the same. All the other results refer to different phones entirely, or talk about using an app. (which is not what I'm asking). There was no reason other than to be a jerk to tell me to google it. If you actually found an answer, why didn't you just tell it to me? Right, because you didn't, because it's not that obvious.

Thanks! Do you think adding ".bak" to it or something will be enough, or would it be better to just copy it to PC and remove it entirely? (I just feel more comfortable having it to put back if ever).
If I don't get a reply, I will just remove it to be sure.
