Edit: Go to post 13 for the official beta
It uses IE favourites!!
What a wonderful change. No longer the need to maintain two separate sets of bookmarks now.
yeah i was playing with it overnight. hope they sort the rotation and keyboard bugs soon,
Im currently using the latest build of iris browser, its a bit slower over gprs but faster and renders better over wifi
I just test it in my HTC Touch using Wifi and it's great. The doble click to zoom, the iPhone like scrolling, accesing real web pages not pda-prepared ones, the auto full screen... all the features are great. And the interface and the settings.
What a great product! I can't wait till arrive home to test it in my X7500.
Well done OPERA - (insert lot of clapping here)
Rubbish
It is rubbish. Like last few versions after 1184 build. They seem to belong to those porogramers who believe that they know better then the user, how he should use the software. And on top of that they did not notice that there are such devices like Athena and Dimond with VGA screen best used in landscape.
Maybe for poore Touch users (nothing personal) it is good, but not for us. I have written about it already while build 14xx was released, but they obviously do not read our comments.
To Opera builders: if I want to turn my screen to portrait, I have better tools to do it. I realy do not need Opera to do it for me.
I am back with 1184 build.
I almost never use my device landscape mode. In that mode, I feel the screen is too wide and too low. As a result, my keyboard covers a big percentage of the screen, many programs shows too few lines (for example, too few items in the Contact application, too few files in file explorer, too few items in registry editors) with too much blank space on the right side of the screen.
So I have noticed the problems that you might have encountered.
I find the beta1 to be more instant and fast in making the data connection.
I make the normal changes to minimum overview zoom (70% this time), and display in large font. For some web pages, have to use smaller fonts. Also make the change to the limit paragraph width option so that the paragraph does but occupy only a small portion of the screen at the left hand side.

What are you talking about, and why are you acting like a baby over a beta (unfinished software)? Report it to Opera instead of posting it here where no one from Opera will read it. And even if they did read it, they would have no idea what you are talking about because you never actually explain what you are talking about.
the best opera i tried too...if the screen dont rotate on portrait when exit, this wil be the best...thank you
White the speed of the browser seems faster and connection more reliable, there are some still issues.
I've decided to use the default MinimumOverview Zoom setting of 30% because only with this could I see web pages without having to scroll at the overview level. The only problem is that at that level, all the links are non-active (meaning I can't click the link to go to the related web pages).
Another problem that I find is that at the overview level, the paragrah texts occupy only the small space on the left, leveing most side of the screen blank. This problem could be solved if I blank out the "limit paragraph width" option in that at the overview level the paragraph width stretch and occupies the entire screen width. However, that result in having to scroll left and right at the zoomed-in level since the browser does not "reflow" the paragraph to fit within the screen width.
The beta seems to cause my keyborad to revert back to the standard keyboard quite often too.
Does anyone else experience the same issues as what I have just described?
Anyway, I'm already testing a newer beta (build 1718) posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401643
I have not received an email from opera mentioning this build, but have tried out the newer build anyway.
In a few hous time, the real public beta will be released. I'll re-test these and provide feedback to Opera based on that version. No point doing it on these two peak version as every few hours they have a new release.

1718 is already the official release? Are you sure? You seems to have insider information then? Or.. are you from Opera organization itself?
Anyway, I noticed that 1718 does fix an issue I noticed in the first peak beta. In the peak beta, if I type in "Opera:" into the address, I expect to see everything that starts with that including "Opera:config" to be displayed immediately. It does not happen, but 1718 fixes that.
edit: you're right. This appears to be the official beta release. The link to opera's download site is here:

Edit: Wait, the link that you provided is for build 1706, which is not the official beta build I thought.
For those wanting build 1718 direct from Opera, get it from here:

This is exactly what I was looking for. Nice one opera !
I liked Opera but 2 things really irked me and made me stop using it.
1) It didn't use IE favorites
2) It would automatically open the soft keyboard whenever I went over a text box.
I hear they've fixed the first one, does anyone know if they fixed the second one?
Thanks.

Just read, if you can. And read some other posts of others as well as my posts concerning earlier versions of Opera. In particular read the post next after yours, if my is not clear to you.
If this does not help: If I want to turn my screen to portrait I would use some other tools. I do not want Opera to turn my screen to portrait each time I close Opera. Is it clear enough?
They introduced this feature in last few versions. The build up to 1184 was not doing this and I am sure all the others would like to keep it that way.
By the way. We have a habit here. If any app is shown here, we try to test it and give a comment, what we like and what we do not like. We are testing Opera for months already, if you did not noticed, and we comment each new build. We hoped that this could help Opera builders. Since 14xx build was released, this strange behavior was commented by various people here and now you are coming and saying that it is a baby comment. Nice comment of you, an insider.

He is right after build 1184 the rotation occurs not only when you exit opera just doing anything else like txt msg it happens, and it's annoying! Tho i like this build i didnt downgrade like evreyone else thn the opera forums its been brought up as well as the sip kybd issue and the big notification shutoff bugs.Hopefully the next build/beta works better keep your fingers crossed.
Looks interesting, but the rotation to portrait drove me absolutely batty in under 2 minutes. You don't have have to close it, just minimize. What a freakin pain. No go, back to 8.65.

Is this supposed to be some kind of joke? What makes you think it's a feature? Ever heard about "bugs in beta versions"? You know, when the software doesn't do what it's intended to do?
Did you even consider that maybe, just maybe, it's just a bug?

Also, pointless whining like yours isn't going to help anyone.

I do not care if Opera comes here and reads our posts or not. It is their problem. We here are helping developers by testing their products mostly in beta versions. I am not going to verify Opera builders intentions. I just found Opera beta or pre-beta version, and as always we do here, stareted to test and give report. My report about 14xx versions was that it suddenly started to turn the screen to prtrait. Me and others were reported that several times. In next versions, this bug (obviously a bug) was still there, so when they officialy released their beta, I gave report that it is still there (the bug). I, again do not care if they are goping to listen to that or not. This is thair problem, as I have said. Contrary, I do care if somebody comes here and offends me, only because I do what we are suposed to do here. This is a forum for developers and their testers, here. If software is shown here, we will test and give report. Sometimes in big words if the bug is repeated in several versions. If you do not like it then go to hel from this forum, and stop offend people here.
Got it?
For some reason I remember seeing a feature where you could be with a group of friends and all taking pictures and they all shared to the each others gallery. I don't think it was s beam it was something where they were basically in a shared gallery. Can anyone help??
Open the camera and change shooting mode to 'Share Shot'. You need all your friends to have SGS3s for this to work.

Hopefully one of the devs can get photo share working on the s2. It's a great feature to just be locked to only the s3.

This is kinda work in progress port of Gcam with hdr+ for arm devices. it's based on google camera version 4.2.035.141213305-arm.
it needs camera api 2 enabled. you can enable it via flashing the zip I've attached or add below line into build.prop.
Code:
persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1
Stock rom is preferred, but it should work on all roms as long as above requirement is met.
Google camera apk
Please let me know if auto/touch focus works or not. happy testing :good:
Credit : @defcomg
Requires TWRP for flashing zip. or root for manually editing build.prop
Nice to see another thread on this..
Is root needed??
Also please try new Google camera APK.
Appreciate your work.
I see many devices having their own port of Google camera with more or less features, did you tried some of them on g5s? GCam ports for other devices on g5s?

Newer gcam apks are 64bit only so they won't work on phones with 32bit os like g5/g5s/g5+/g5s+ etc. this also needs root or custom recovery like TWRP to flash attached zip. i don't have this phone that's why i posted it here so others can see if it works.
slowmotion video won't work, nor i will fix it. since stock cam have that option already. this is only for hdr+.

Slow motion video works for me on XT 1806, also AEX 5.0 has the option already enabled, so you might not have to root if on a custom rom.

Interesting, just to be sure you have set hdr+ to always on ? how's the image quality now tho ? any improvements ?
can you post some samples with/without hdr+ ? :good:
I also tried this port. Work quite fine, on screen in live capturing there's some light/colours distortions, but in the shot in the gallery is perfect. The app sometimes crashes, but it's still usable.
Shots with her+ shows a good quality in low light with good noise reduction and details compared to stock camera app. When I'll got some free time I'll post samples.
I tried this camera, my phone is not rooted and wouldn't know about api2 able... Wouldn't mess up with system files... Anyway, I installed this camera and works... Photos have good detail on them, only problem is a bit too much noise and it creates a raw file that I never asked... Anyway, hope the developer manages to reduce noise and stop that raw file... Thanks

Oh yeah auto/touch focus works
kraatus90- Is this different from the version on the G5+ forums in this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/themes/potentially-google-camera-port-t3684264
I've been playing with that one all day on my G5+ (non S variant, single camera), but the focus issue is driving me bonkers. Even the posted "workaround" which requires going to video and focusing, then going back and trying to lock focus... sometimes the focus will drift when the camera reinits upon photo mode.

Are you on an S or regular Moto 5+? The S version, as I understand, has camera2 already enabled by default. I think the dual camera stock setup uses it internally so it was always there. As far as it working without root- the app itself doesn't require root to run, however if you have a phone that lacks Camera2 API, you'd need to root in order to fix that.

I have G5 plus. Yes, I know that app itself doesn't require root; indeed, I was referring to enabling the Camera2 API.
I guess I'll have to wait for Oreo update which will have it enabled by default :/

What makes you think that? Api2 has been around since Lollipop, I think phones leave it disabled when it isn't needed by the stock camera. For example, the G5S plus (which this thread is referring to) has it enabled, even on Nougat, and I think that's because the dual camera thing required some fancy magic in the stock app to make it work, and that was accessible via api2.
BTW, I'm not rooted, but I unlocked my bootloader and changed the build.prop through recovery to add the line. Still mostly stock on my G5 plus (non S variant, like yours).
moto has opted for 32bit operating system and apparently the google camera port only works with devices with 64bit os

Could you please elaborate more? Which exactly "latest GCam mod"? And what are "recommended settings"? Unfortunately, I can't read thoughts...
Forget HDR, can you get Motion Photos that way or whatever they are called?
Google's implementation is the closest to Apple's Live Photos there is, there is no contest otherwise. Trust me, I looked around.
Also, there is no "latest GCam mod"... There's a LOT of Google Camera mods.
Here, have a look: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/
Yeah... I know... And don't bother ctrl+F-ing "Xperia" or "Sony"...
Funny how we Xperia X users all know that the stock camera app sucks balls, but there is nothing really out there in terms of gCam to fix it.
Sidenote: really unfortunate that Google is not supplying gCam to anyone anymore. The added features are in parts the things people will miss from iPhone and the typical argument that with Android you're free to mix software and hardware gets a huge blow.
It'd be less annoying if Pixels had an SD card slot.
Hello S9+ Fans,
yesterday I updated my S9+ to Android Pie. Lots of new, nice things.
But in the new camera app the video recording button is no longer available. You have to FIRST switch to video mode and them press recording button. To have two buttons, one for Photos and one for videos was a brilliant, very much loved thing. As when you are 'in action' you simply can decide with one click what you aim to do, without priorly having to switch the modes !
Does anybody know how to get the second button back ?
I am even extremely thinking about bringing the old camera app back if it is not possible with the new one. Is there any way to do this please ?
Sorry if I might have overseen a thread handling this already.
Kind regards
Any fix for this?
First they took out dual camera mode then these "dual shooting buttons"... and moved the clock to the left whyyy samsung??!! Not happy with the Android 9 pie s9 s9+ plus update.
Moving the clock was a Google decision, not Samsung's.

The real fail here is the manual video mode removal :silly:
Very stupid decision
This change is a minor annoyance and I'll adjust but it is an annoyance none the less...
I wonder what the thinking was here? Surely no one can consider this an improvement..
This is a freaking useless change and it's totally impractical. Nobody asked for this stupid change and yet, as usual, Samsung decided to implement it...
With android, you just root and change whatever you want. Or use another application suitable.

Yeah but that's not the point. + with Samsung, if you want to use most of the Knox features, root is a no go.
The point is that a software update removes a feature, which is not only useless but also detrimental to the user.
Hey, at least I can find the video mode now because it says the word "video". I had to spend 10 minutes on google to discover how the hell to record video the first time I wanted to do it on my s9+ because there wasn't anything anywhere that looked like it would make video.

.......and therein lies your answer to why things like this happen...
I'm sure a number of people in this boat complained to Samsung the first time around and so they removed this useful feature.
This is why we can't have nice things...LOL!
We live in a planet full of morons. I can't believe that there are people that they need to see the word "video" to understand the place of the function, but can't understand the red dot, the international symbol for video recording. You are so right, we are doomed to never have good things on this planet.

I'd rather hear his complaint than the ones that can't get used to companies changing things. What's the term I'm looking for? Adapt other die? No, that's to harsh and don't wish death. Get used to it? I don't think that's clear enough. Maybe people should just stop recording things, I mean, if someone did that to you you'd tell them to stop. No, you won't be YouTube rich any time soon kids, sorry
why do we have to get used to "changes from companies" that downgrade the abilities of our phones? You must be trolling, there s no other excuse of your unreasoning way of thinking.
Is there any way to install the old camera still having the two buttons ?
Does anybody have a link to download the app please?
I do see the positive other changes, but rather would use the old version to get my two buttons back.
your only practical choice may be installing a third party video camera app from the play store.

This is not an option for me as it would put me in an even worse situation. Samsung's camera uses the camera at its most. Any other app has not that brilliant pics + vids with that device.
So does anybody know how to bring back the Android 8 cam on S9+ having Android 9 installed ?
Thank you in advance.

We live in a planet full of morons. I can't believe that there are people that they need to see the word "video" to understand the place of the function, but can't understand the red dot, the international symbol for video recording. You are so right, we are doomed to never have good things on this planet.

This was no red dot, not until you first found the obscure and utterly meaningless red-dotless icon that switched from camera to video mode. That's what I spent 10 minutes on google looking for the first time I tried to record video.

why do we have to get used to "changes from companies" that downgrade the abilities of our phones? You must be trolling, there s no other excuse of your unreasoning way of thinking.

Nothing got "downgraded."
